Brian Joseph Studios was hired to completely re-design the site, and with our creative professionals we were able to design a highly functional, yet user friendly website.

The use of white space is important to us here at Brian Joseph Studios, and we do not subscribe to the way old and out dated web design companies try to fill in every inch of space on a website page. Our design for the new Adrhi.com is extremely clean and highly optimized, and the results of this can be seen if you search "Hawaii Real Estate" on Google.

The website has many powerful tools on it, including the ability to create an account, save favorite properties, save searches and much more. The interactive Google map feature will be available soon when the programming for that has been completed.

Another high quality website produced by Brian Joseph Studios topping Google for a highly competitive search term. Another example like this proves that we are the leading web development and creative design studio in Southwest Florida.

Brian Yerkeshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00633656059036266280noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7512465791222003420.post-26348793337626678972008-10-10T18:32:00.003-04:002008-10-10T18:59:09.378-04:00Website Launch | Sun Palace Vacations

Another new site that we launched during the summer months is Sun Palace Vacations. We also created their logo design, business card, lawn signs and car magnet for their new identity and the client is delighted with how their new brand and online image has now helped them to grow tremendously in the past few months.

The new website features a fully enhanced content management system and blog platform controlled by the client, and is optimized to the highest level of SEO to ensure that the site performs well in all major search engines.

Sun Palace Vacations are a leading Fort Myers Beach Vacation & Condo Rentals company, providing a high level of customer service and great rates.

The new website also encourages past clients to leave testimonials on the site, and the online booking form makes it easy to organize your stay on Fort Myers Beach. The Fort Myers Beach Chamber of Commerce contracted us to give them a new, and innovative online presence and marketing tool, and we are proud to announce the launch of the website, FortMyersBeach.org.

We discussed some of the features in a previous post, and we are always adding more as the weeks go by. The new site also gives the Chamber a great opportunity to increase their revenue by a significant amount through online advertising.

So far, one week after launch, the website has been a huge success. My company and I were recently asked to be the guest speakers at a Chamber luncheon, and it was this event that we initially unveiled the new site to members in attendance.

The Fort Myers Beach Observer wrote a nice article about my presentation and that has also helped to give an early increase in the number of visitors the site receives.

Check out the new Fort Myers Beach Chamber of Commerce website here!

Brian Yerkeshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00633656059036266280noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7512465791222003420.post-9379425565866071102008-08-22T08:21:00.005-04:002008-09-15T23:13:51.451-04:00Website Launch | Ocean Blue Education

Here at Brian Joseph Studios, we have had an extremely busy summer. We launched several new websites, a few logos, were guest speakers at a Chamber of Commerce event, and we added a new programmer and a new graphic artist to our team.

So, here is a bit of info on one our recent website launches. The site is Ocean Blue Education and they provide excellent marine science adventures to various destinattions around the world. Their programs are educational yet extremely fun for the students, and all participants have the ability to acquire their scuba diving certification while on board with Ocean Blue Education.

The new website contains a few interesting features. They are:

Latest News and Photos management tool. (can bee seen on their "blog"
page. Using this tool, they can upload photos and information while out
on the water, making it possible for the students' parents to view some
images of the trip.)

- Full CSS-based design and code (this makes the website programming extremely easy to manage and maintain. It also gives the website a high level of optimization so that is performs better on search engines like Google, Yahoo, and MSN. (oh yeah, and who could forget cuil.com!

So far, the new Ocean Blue Education website has proved to be a very useful tool for the company, and for their sailing/marine science programs. The blog/latest news tool was utilized well during their recent summer trip to the Bahamas, and many students and parents communicated on the site. Great to see a client using tools like this to their full potential!

Do you like this website and would like something similar for your own company, products or services? Feel free to drop us a note here and we can get rolling on your project!

Brian Yerkeshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00633656059036266280noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7512465791222003420.post-49979633823067212712008-07-28T16:14:00.005-04:002008-07-28T16:54:39.088-04:00Brian Joseph Studios : In The Press

Here at Brian Joseph Studios we are coming up on an event filled few months. We will be launching 5 new websites in the month of August, along with a few new logos.

FortMyersBeach.org - New Website Due To Launch!
----------------------------------------------------------

One of the main events coming up is the Fort Myers Beach Chamber website launch, as featured in the Augsut 2008 Gulf Shore Business Magazine. I am quoted as saying that the new FortMyersBeach.org will feature "advertising opportunities and a stunning design, and it will be extremely user-friendly". This quote only touches on some of the features and tools that the new Chamber website will have.

Each member will have the opportunity to have an online account where they can manage their membership information, and business listing and profile information. In addition, each member will be able to fully customize their own profile page where they are encouraged to display any specials, offers, discounts, company news etc.

This new feature will give the members the opportunity to promote themselves much more effectively through the website.

The new website will also have a high level of search engine optimization carried out, and one of the main focuses of the website is to attract an even higher number of visitors each year.

I will create a post about the new site once it is launched. Also, in the coming weeks, we will be posting information on the other 4 websites we are launching in August, along with some of the logos in production.

You can subscribe to this blog's RSS feed by clicking here

Brian Yerkeshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00633656059036266280noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7512465791222003420.post-10883968663452025892008-06-19T15:31:00.002-04:002008-06-19T15:55:07.171-04:00Client Focus | All Save Energy Solutions | Green Websites

This week's client focus features one of our international clients, "All Save Energy Solutions" located in Ireland.

Here in America, we are only slowly starting to embrace the green in our lives, but in Ireland, this has been a standard in daily lives for many, many years. A small example of this, is that Irish households do not continually waste energy to keep water heated throughout the day. In Ireland, they have what are called "immersions", where water is heated when the immersion is turned on. This means that they only use energy needed to heat the water when they are actually going to use the heated water. One negative involved in this is that you have to turn the immersion on 30 minutes before you need the water. Most come equipped with a timer so that you can schedule that morning shower!

"All Save Energy Solutions", is a consultancy based firm located in Ireland. Since the BER legislation was passed, each house is now required to pass an energy rating. All Save Energy Solution provides certified professional BER rating assessors to rate your property and to provide energy saving solutions.

Brian Joseph Studios designed a striking logo and web design for All Save Energy Solutions in December 2007. In addition, a strong search engine optimization campaign was added to the strategy and since then, the website has enjoyed much success. All Save Energy Solutions now receives over 80% of all contracts from their website, and most of their website's traffic comes from search engines.

We look forward to growing the website for this client in the coming months, and we will also be meeting with them in Ireland in one weeks' time.

Does your web design company agree to meet with you often? Brian Joseph Studios regularly meets with our clients, whether they are in Fort Myers, or Dublin, Ireland!

Brian Yerkeshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00633656059036266280noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7512465791222003420.post-69901486994207658522008-06-09T20:10:00.003-04:002008-06-09T20:15:53.354-04:00Obama versus McCain - Web Design WarsNow that Barack Obama has won the Democratic vote for President, it seems like a good time to review both Presidential candidate's websites.

BarackObama.com and JohnMcCain.com

First off, here are the details of these sites:

BarackObama.com

Server Type: PWS/1.2.29 (Personal Web Server)

Width: 960 pixels

Code: CSS and PHP

Color Scheme: White, Shades of Blues, Grey

Design: Light feel, Use of Gradients, Modern, Crisp, Comfortable

Cross-Browser Compatible: Yes

Estimated US Visitors Per Month: 1,568,981

Valid HTML?: Failed validation, 8 Errors (XHTML 1.0 Transitional)

JohnMcCain.com

Server Type: Microsoft-IIS/6.0

Width: 999 pixels

Code: Mostly Tables and ASP / ASP.net

Color Scheme: White, Shades of Blues, Grey

Design: Light feel, Use of Gradients, Modern, Crisp, Comfortable

Cross-Browser Compatible: Two notable IE6 problems on homepage

Estimated US Visitors Per Month: 350,340

Valid HTML?: Failed validation, 85 Errors (HTML 4.01 Transitional)

Screenshots from June 9th 2008

BarackObama.com is immediately a striking yet calming website, designed with organization and cleanliness in mind. The main website navigation is clearly defined and the overall usability of the website is excellent. The format of each page begins with a nice page heading graphic, well-designed and interesting. Each page is organized clearly, and a perfect amount of white space and padding is added to each section.

Features on BarackObama.com are:

User Accounts / MySpace style : Yes (My.BarackObama.com)

Newsletter Sign Up: Yes

Website Blog: Yes

TV Channel and Videos: Yes

Events Search Engine: Yes

Local Grassroots Group Area Search Engine: Yes

State Specific Pages: Yes

People Group Pages: Yes

Issues Pages: Yes

Downloadable Logos, Wallpapers, Print Materials, Buddy Icons etc. Yes

Social Networking Links: Yes

Register To Vote Link: Yes (off site)

JohnMcCain.com's design lacks real organization and a friendly user interface look and feel. The overall design looks contrived and forced together, without any flow or consistency evident throughout. The color scheme....well...there doesn't appear to be a standard organized color scheme at all with different colors, and tones all over the website; Prominent blues, orange/yellow, red, bright green, turquoise blue and dull blue/grey. Font sizes throughout the website differ, as well spacing and padding. An example of this is if you venture between the Campaign Calendar page and the Blog page. The difference in padding and margin at the top left is a terrible lack of real professionalism in user interface standards, especially for such an important website like this.

Features on JohnMcCain.com are

User Accounts / MySpace style : Yes (McCainSpace)

Newsletter Sign Up: Yes

Website Blog: Yes

TV Channel and Videos: Yes

Events Search Engine: No (only events calendar)

Local Grassroots Group Area Search Engine: No

State Specific Pages: Yes

People Group Pages:No

Issues Pages: Yes

Downloadable Logos, Wallpapers, Print Materials, Buddy Icons etc.No

Social Networking Links:No

Register To Vote Link: Yes (on site)

So, after studying both websites, it is clear which one is of a higher quality of web and graphic design standards. BarackObama.com is a modern, web 2.0 website, utilizing the latest in XHTML and CSS capabilities, along with capturing the interests of all ages.

JohnMcCain.com lacks a comfortable and appealing design, and is also extremely narrow in its reach. The only user that will enjoy JohnMcCain.com is a wealthy 70 year old man looking for some new golf gear (4th tab in dark blue in center of page)!

BarackObama.com seems to be reaching out to all ages, all ethnicities, all groups of society. His website has something for everybody, and it is interesting to note that this seems to tie in perfectly with his overall campaign promise; To unite everyone. His website certainly achieves that.

What do you think about the two websites? Do you think they achieve what they need to? However, you should pay attention to not force the smaller element into the background.

All elements combined should result in a harmonical image.

It is often helpful to use a grid. For example, an element's width in the logo could be used as the base of such a grid. Many of us in the web design, graphic design and internet marketing business use RSS technology every day. It is important that our industries try to promote it and get it in front of all general internet users.

Q: What is RSS, and what are RSS feeds I keep hearing about?A. Wikipedia explains RSS feeds as:"RSS is a family of Web feed formats used to publish frequently updated content such as blog entries, news headlines, and podcasts.[2] An RSS document (which is called a "feed" or "web feed"[3] or "channel") contains either a summary of content from an associated web site or the full text. RSS makes it possible for people to keep up with web sites in an automated manner that can be piped into special programs or filtered displays.[3]RSS content can be read using software called an "RSS reader", "feed reader" or an "aggregator", which can be web-based or desktop-based. The user subscribes to a feed by entering the feed's link into the reader or by clicking an RSS icon in a browser that initiates the subscription process. The RSS reader checks the user's subscribed feeds regularly for new content, downloading any updates that it finds and provides a user interface to monitor and read the feeds.

The initials "RSS" are used to refer to the following formats:

Really Simple Syndication (RSS 2.0) RDF Site Summary (RSS 1.0 and RSS 0.90) Rich Site Summary (RSS 0.91). RSS formats are specified using XML, a generic specification for the creation of data formats. Although RSS formats have evolved since March 1999,[4] the RSS icon ("") first gained widespread use in 2005/2006. At the time of tpying this post, brianjosephstudios.com is the number 1 result on Google for "Aurora Web Technology".

So, what does this mean? Well, it means that the Googlebot has figured out that not only has awebtech.com switched over to brianjosephstudios.com, but important words, names and phrases have also made the switch. The words "Aurora Web Technology" do not feature on BrianJosephStudios.com more than 3 or 4 times. So, evidence shows that Google now knows that old phrases that showed awebtech.com in a search results page, should now apply to brianjosephstudios.com

Googlebot hasn't fully figured this out yet though, as we are still not ranked number 2 and number 3 as we were for awebtech.com for our targeted keywords. We have seen an increase in our rankings however since the initial drop off when the switch first took place.

We will continue to monitor our rankings and the log files to make sure Googlebot understands exactly what is going on here and to get our site ranked number 1 again. I think we still are number one for several of our targeted keywords though. :)

So, as a potential client, these posts will hopefully show you that we have an expert knowledge of search engine marketing and search engine optimization (SEO), and we are SEO leaders in the Fort Myers, Naples, Estero and Bonita Springs areas.

Brian Yerkeshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00633656059036266280noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7512465791222003420.post-5457416226624864352008-04-23T12:22:00.002-04:002008-04-23T12:44:20.570-04:00Google Ranking - After our 301 redirectsWell....the Big G (Google for those that are not internet nerds!), came by our old website, Awebtech.com, and found a whole bunch of 301 redirects all over the site sending users to our new website, BrianJosephStudios.com.

Awebtech.com has ranked firmly in the top 3 for all of our targetted keyword phrases, and we receive a large amount of traffic from search engines like Google, Yahoo, and MSN (Live).

So, for a while we had both websites up and finally we decided to make the full switch over to Brian Joseph Studios as our main company name. Here's where it gets messy!

On all pages on awebtech.com, we had to add a server side redirect to the corresponding pages on brianjosephstudios.com. For example, if we had a page : http://awebtech.com/web-design/ we had to add a redirect to a similar page on our new site...like this http://brianjosephstudios.com/web-design/ .

So, with every page on awebtech.com re-directing the user to brianjosephstudios.com, Google gets a little worried (temporarily) about both websites. This is due to the fact that spam websites, and black hat seo's will use re-directs of all kinds to spam the search engines, showing users something else.

301 re-directs are the correct way to transfer your site over to a new domain name. They are also widely acknowledged as the favored redirect method for all search engines.

The problem with it is though that Google knocks your new site down quite a bit for a short period of time, until it figures out what exactly is going on. So, right now, our website is not ranking as high as it did before all of this was implemented. However, we expect our rankings to come back within a week or two , and when they do, they will come back even stronger.

Brian Yerkeshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00633656059036266280noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7512465791222003420.post-19101908341207064462008-04-22T16:51:00.003-04:002008-04-22T16:58:33.390-04:00Website Launched - GoDartFrog.com Yet another logo design client / web design client.

We introduced this project when we finished the creation of the logo, business cards and tri fold brochures.

The overall identity of Dart Frog Powerboat Charters is unique, exciting and interesting. No design can save any business that is not well thought out.

Number 3 will allow you to fully understand the goal of your business, the ideas you want to convey and who your target market is for any design.

Understand your product or service and be able to explain it clearly – this ties in with number 4. It definitely helps the designer if you clarify exactly what (if it’s a logo) the design will be developed for. Knowing this ahead of time can prevent any future misunderstandings, in-effective design or troublesome production.

Understand it wont be free. When people post on a design forum and expect a design service for free it is frustrating and (in my opinion) shows how little they think of the process.

Communicate with the designer – dont dictate. If you have questions or concerns, voice them, and return the favour of listening.

Don’t try to design for the designer – you hired them for their knowledge and talent. Let them utilise that to put your company in the best light possible. Of course the designer should also take your opinions into consideration, especially if it deals with an industry-specific issue. This is still very much communication on both sides.

For the designer: Do not assume you know the client industry! Each industry has its own specific requirements, quirks and expectations. LISTEN to the client, their concerns, what they want to play up, what they are truly selling and how they want to present themselves in the market. Ads that are pretty may win awards but they don’t always win marketshare.

Set expectations up-front: Both the client and designer need to let the other know what they expect as far as materials, deadlines and communication. Will you be meeting on a regular basis? Phone? Emails? How are you delivering materials? Are you going to be there for press proofs? How far will you follow the completion of the project. Make sure there are no surprises.

Brian Yerkeshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00633656059036266280noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7512465791222003420.post-16832164140143023642008-04-20T20:32:00.005-04:002008-04-20T20:43:19.187-04:00Website Launched - At Your Service SWFLToday, we launched another new website (yes, we know it is Sunday!). (Well....for a short while anyways.) Why will our rankings fall? Well....anytime a big change like this happens to a website, the search engine bots get a little scared and decide to knock the site down a few pegs for a week or so. After they come by and get in for a deep crawl of the new website's files matched with the re-directs from the old website, the new website should be back up to where the old one was within about 2 weeks.

Sometimes, this temporary drop in rankings will not happen at all, and we would be pretty fortunate if we came out of this unscathed!

So, Aurora Web Technology is now Brian Joseph Studios! Visual things that are symmetrical provide a calming effect, and we recognize them more easily. Symmetry signalizes a form of stability. This is why we often use symmetry unconsciously in logo design.

Symmetry can be utilized in many kinds of ways:

Fourfold - that is, three times at angles of 90° - to create a symmetrical logo. You can also just mirror an element horizontally or vertically, so the elements occur twice.

Sometimes, symmetry is used to create an effect of reflection, e.g. the reflection on water or a shiny floor.

Next Week, Part 3 : Proportions

Brian Yerkeshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00633656059036266280noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7512465791222003420.post-36822047432560845982008-04-11T15:45:00.001-04:002008-04-11T15:48:20.367-04:00Logo Design Composition (Part 1) - Format"Originally posted on BrianYerkes.com

We start with Part 1 of this 7 part series on Logo Design Composition.

Each week I will write a small post for each part to help those of you unfamiliar with logo design composition and the overall importance of this logo design aspect in the creation and development process of an identity.

Logo Design Composition is the organization of the elements contained within the design, and how they are used in their surroundings. Each part of this series will deal with the following: Format, Symmetry, Proportions, Combination, Distortion, Colors, and Spacial Design.

Part 1 : Format

The fomat of the logo can provoke certain impressions and associations. As with most design work, there is a basic grid outlined for a logo, and from the original grid there are 3 standard formats that a logo can be formatted in.

1. Portrait
2. Landscape
3. Quadratic

The aspects that can determine which format you choose for your logo design depends on the intended use of the logo (print, online, interactive etc), and the area around the logo (the elements that interact with the design).

The format of a logo determines how the logo will be used in the various media. Often, the identity takes on two different forms depending on the medium it is published on. The logo is created in both a portrait format and a landscape format.

Next week, Part 2: Symmetry

Brian Yerkeshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00633656059036266280noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7512465791222003420.post-74554613423839106142008-04-07T23:29:00.003-04:002008-04-08T16:53:12.459-04:0010 CSS Web Design ResourcesTables are like that annoying fly that won't leave the room. We will discuss a little about the client and outline the ways in which we have helped the client enjoy online and print marketing success.

This week, we feature Snook Bight Yacht Club and Marina, located in Fort Myers Beach, Florida.

We have had this client for over 3 years now, and have enjoyed a lot of growth together during that time.

The modern, upscale logo got them underway with a perfect identity that would allow for future business growth and diversity. Brian Joseph Studios began a to develop a strong online and in print brand for Snook Bight, with a high quality, interactive website launched in June 2006. http://www.snookbightmarina.com/

We were also repsonsible for their print marketing campaigns and below is a few examples that we designed:

The marina's growth from their advertising and from our designs can be seen in the level of increased revenue generated from tourist activity like boat rentals, rackominium purchases and service department clients.

The property is currently undergoing a $20 million facelift and some images can be seen here

Some videos that have been created promoting the new property can be seen below:

In addition, a recent television campaign received great response.

Brian Yerkeshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00633656059036266280noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7512465791222003420.post-70516472021262434232008-03-31T16:58:00.002-04:002008-03-31T17:04:05.464-04:00Rap Video About Website Design and CodingAs I am reading thru all of my daily RSS feeds, blogs etc...I came across this video that I have not seen before.

Extremely entertaining just because it's a pretty cool way of talking about something so nerdy like web design and HTML coding! Haha!

If you can understand the lyrics, it is extremely helpful if you are someone looking to hire a web design company. The words in this rap will provide you with some good information about the elements of a website.

Brian Yerkeshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00633656059036266280noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7512465791222003420.post-42222461276763956452008-03-29T16:47:00.003-04:002008-03-29T17:01:43.091-04:00Logo Design Naples | At Your ServiceWe have just completed a logo design project for a new client, "At Your Service". We enjoyed working with the client and we are all happy with the finished product.

The brief was as follows:

We'd like a logo that is modern and catchy, and gives the client a sense of strength and trustworthiness. Strong and bold.

This logo design project was slightly more challenging than a normal project, as we needed to incorporate a lot of text into the overall full logo design. After many sketches, we came up with a few concepts:

Our immediate favorite was the first one. It was modern, clean, and professional. The use of the bow tie imagery seemed to capture what the company is all about; Concierge and Homewatch Service.

The client chose the first one, and after a few revisions from them, we ended with a nice logo that gives the new company a strong, trustworthy identity.

Brian Yerkeshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00633656059036266280noreply@blogger.com0
