Sketchbook magazine is here! After much anticipation, the London-based independent quarterly magazine showcasing fresh, individual and burgeoning creative talents in fashion, design and culture around the globe celebrates the launch of its first edition: The Fashion Blogger Issue. ‘I blog therefore I am’. In this digital age, fashion blogging has blossomed into a cultural phenomenon and become a way of life for both fashion journalists and fashion fans alike.

Day 2- PPQ @ 8.30

PPQ never fails to make entering its star-studded show a big pain, but once inside the premises, the show proved itself worthwhile with a star-studded front-row cast. PPQ introduced its audience to tribal-infused pop colour looks by drowsing tall ethnic models in high-waisted hot pink harem pants and triangle graphic infused vests. The models had their hair wrapped up in towering black turbans and walked the triangle catwalk in black & white stripes and adidas shirts tucked in purple high-waisted African skirts.

Apologies for lack of images- the way the venue was designed it made it hard for me or anyone else to take photos. But we did snap Jodie Harsh on her way out of the show.

Day 2-Ashish @ 5.30

A truly capsule collection, Ashish returned to what he knows best, sequined colourful brights, this time capturing a strong holiday cruise theme with a Beach Boys soundtrack. Iconic jet setting motifs like the Mona Lisa, Eiffel Tower, palm trees, Map of Italy, his famous pink flamingos and slogans like ‘Life’s a Beach’ (and our personal favourite ‘I’ve been around’) were displayed in loose, comfortable shapes glamourised in shiny sequins.

Key winners of the collection were a long sparkly sequined white gown with the Statue of Liberty and a pair of flared sequined loose-fitting pants showing the New York skyline in bright blue and black.

Ashish also chose to play with denim this season, keeping on trend but taking washed out and tie-dyed denim to the next level - embellished with finger-long studs not only on shoulders but the ends of jeans as well. Interestingly enough, there was homage to Nike, showing Ashish’s ability in taking the practical and glamourising it so effortlessly.

All in all, one of the stronger more out-there collections in terms of capturing the bright, fun and colourful elements of summer.

Day 1 - Aminaka Wilmont @ 8.30 pm

There was a massive streak of digital print through out the catwalks this season in both London and New York, and Aminaka Wilmont was no exception. What made the prints stand out were their obvious references to artistic painted prints and rusty swirls resembling watercolour paintings that bled into each other.

Their use of digital prints, though not mature, integrated human flesh tones on draped body suits and tights in a beautiful manner. At the heart of the collection the colours explored into a darker territory using fierce black leathers and arm-length shredded fringe dresses. Key pieces of the collection included dark leather body-con pieces with sculptural headpieces towering over the models’ heads and around their faces.

Day 1- Bora Aksu @ 6.00pm

Bora Aksu's S10 collection, inspired by Oscar Wile's ‘The Happy Prince’, alludes to the beauty that lies within us all. Shades of pink, salmon and yellow were juxtaposed with darker shades of black giving an edgier feel to the collection. By the middle of the collection, tufts of gold, lace and chiffon were made to peek under layers of black and pattern, adding extra depth and volume. Interesting additions to the pieces were the knitted lacy bibs overlaid on top of dark dresses.

Overall, the collection saw a set of strong women in long side-braids and messy hair trampezing down the catwalk in a mesh of chiffons and knits. The tights were the showstoppers of the series in rays of glitter and splashes of pink, white, and black. Bora Aksu truly embraced the dark romantic grunge look.

Day 1- Emilio De La Morena @ 4.30 pm

It was exciting to have known Emilio personally and interviewed him for one my features for Prim Magazine last season to then to see him emerge from the off schedule show into the on one amongst the best London Fashion week has to offer. I am not going to lie and say that I wish Emilio revisited his sculptural roots, but he did take a new approach to a fresh chapter in his life, taking inspiration from installation instead of sculpture. Clad in his uniform of white t-shirt and dark trousers he looked a little nervous before the show when we met outside the tents but after a delightful hug I saw that he was confident and sure of what he was about to unveil.

For his London Fashion Week on-schedule debut, Emilio de la Morena's collection is a much softer, more delicate version of what we've seen last year. His S/S 10 collection, based on an inspiration of tulle and fisherman nets, which he attributes to the installations of Annette Messager, incorporates a lot of intricate layering, folding and drapes.

The collection itself is a mix of his signature body-con dresses played up in more fluid silhouettes with several cropped bomber jackets, which appear to be made of leather but cleverly uses a mix of plasticized jersey overlaid in tulle. Motifs of the sea can be seen through the details and decorations of crystal-pleated fins, intricate folds resembling sea shells as well as the feminine colour palette of nude, olive greens, jellyfish blue and a touch of lilac, which we've come to see as the leading palette in NY fashion week.

LFW Day 2 - Caroline Charles

Caroline Charles did not present one collection, but three, each one marking a different mood and season. The first collection saw 60’s Jane Birkin meet Brigitte Bardot on the beach with red and white swimwear. The second saw blonde models wandering safari grounds in shades of browns, khakis and mustard yellows complete with oversized feminine duffel bags. Her last collection was that of a summer wedding bride in white sheer floral and intricate beading in detail on the sleeves. The White Bride summer mini-collection was the strongest, with Boris Johnson, Mayor of London giving his own nod of approval as the show ended.

LFW - Day 1 Paul Costelloe

The first LFW show kicked off with Paul Costelloe, who had his male and female models take turns on the catwalk. The palette for men was beige, grey, off-white, olive greens and browns, whilst the women wore warm nudes, salmon pinks and oranges. Highlights of the show included a male model in a grey jumpsuit and white glossy sneaks, with a skip in his step. What was also interesting to see was how all male models wore Balmain-like shouldered cream blazers with white cotton scarves, a definite first for menswear.

Day 1 of LFW - Street Styling @ BFC Tents

First day of LFW was electrifying due to the new venue. Somerset house was a perfect clean calm space to encompass the all the buyers, press, and fashion lovers that come together from all over the world to celebrate British fashion. Before the first show of the day Steven Jones was spotted at the BFC tent judging a panel of models in an alternating circular catwalk. The feather buyers were there, looking sleek and edgy as ever. Boris Johnson graced the second show of the day by attending Caroline Charles where he jollingly enjoyed the show. And of course it was great to see Colin McDowelle and Hilary Alexander for another season seated on the front row of all the shows in the BFC tent supporting the designers and bobbing to the music. All in all the first day was a great way to kick off the 25th anniversary celebrations.

Behind the Scenes of the Fran Shoot

Here are some collective of shots of behind scene footage of the Fran shoot. Myself and the features editor styled and photographed our model and muse of the moment Fran for the newly launched Sketchbook Blog. Follow our blog and let us know your thoughts on the shoot ! We were going for a very relaxed natural blogeresce feel. We shot Fran in our local Kensington street next to the colourful doors and clean pavements. Being behind the camera was such a great experience, can't wait to do it again.

Shooting with Fran

My comrade and partner in crime, Luma Bashmi snapped up these lovely photos of me shooting our model and muse of the moment Fran from her blackberry. It was the first time Luma and I styled and shot together and it was a euphoric experience being behind the camera and shooting in our Notting Hill area.
