While her initial prognosis was grim — less than 10 percent chance of survival — Melissa beat those odds and is thriving today, thanks in large part to the team at Children’s Specialized Hospital who worked with her on an intense rehabilitation program.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;span style="color:#000000;"&gt;Melissa maintains a &lt;/span&gt;&lt;a href="http://childrenshospitals.typepad.com/melissa09/"&gt;&lt;span style="color:#3333ff;"&gt;blog&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/a&gt;&lt;span style="color:#000000;"&gt; and will be blogging about her upcoming trip to Capitol Hill on June 17-18 to tell lawmakers about the importance of access to quality specialized care at children's hospitals. NASA scientists are committed to introducing girls to earth and solar science through fun, informal education activities.
