I don't think I've made it through the entire album yet because I find myself replaying every song several times. It's like I can't hear it all in one sitting.

The title cut, "True Lover," is a song that melodically, lyrically, and instrumentally will grab you right from the beginning and I predict will become an instant favorite for you. The banjo in this piece is outstanding, I believe it is a duet of banjos and it is something of a modified frailing that is melodic, mellow and soothing. The vocals that are layed over the music are straight forward, intense and completely sincere. Thought no outward use of emphasis or technical implementation of intensity, there is a longing in the voice that is indescribable.

Other tracks that will grab you include "Jeb's" and "Keep it Cheticamp." The fiddle's song on Jeb's is haunting and will not let you go even after you stop listening. Get this one, you won't regret it. www.myspace.com/turtleduhks and http://www.duhks.com/Nathan Jonesnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7382712943586672826.post-62328794951991063082008-02-29T20:55:00.000-05:002008-02-29T21:08:45.950-05:00The Packway Handle Band, album of the same name

I just bought the latest album by the Packway Handle Band, "The Packway Handle Band," and I am really grooving to it. This band takes elements of old time music, bluegrass, and rhythm or rock and roll in many tunes to reach their unique sound. Some of the features of the group include the great vocals and unique, entertaining, often comic lyrics.

The song that will jump out at you on the first listen is Earl the Duck, a tale about mistaken sexual identity and a love story between a male and female duck who the owner mistook as the opposite genders. A great a capela bridge is in the middle of the song and the ironic duality of the music and rhythm to the content of the song will delight the listener.

Out of Georgia, the band is a contemporary of Trampled by Turtles, another band I will review soon. Check out their music at http://www.packwayhandle.com/ .
Nathan Jonesnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7382712943586672826.post-32165258771053947122008-02-29T20:44:00.000-05:002008-02-29T20:46:12.719-05:00Welcome to Otter's Bluegrass & Old Time Music BlogI'm happy to present this new blog dedicated to bluegrass and old time music. Here, all music of these genres is listened to and appreciated, not just those at the top of the charts. In fact, the rarer, the better in my opinion. I'm gonna review a couple of bands I've been enjoying lately and I look forward to hearing from other fans and musicians on what's out there.Nathan Jonesnoreply@blogger.com
