Movie Tao Productions is hard at work on their latest feature film, 1.8 Days. The film is currently in pre-production and should begin principle photography in June of 2008. Please check the 1.8 Days production blog for more information.

Also, Movie Tao is prepping three other projects for production as well as finishing the screenplays for 5 more. We never stop working and look forward to bringing you hilarious, scary and action packed films. We might even through in one or two that will make you think.

Frank Capra, Jr. - Father of the North Carolina Film Industry

WILMINGTON, N.C.
December 20, 2007

Frank Capra Jr., who came to North Carolina in the early '80s looking for a house to burn and eventually became synonymous with Wilmington's filmmaking success, died yesterday, he was 73.

Capra Jr., President of EUE/Screen Gems Studios in Wilmington, first came to the area in search of locations for the film "Firestarter," the Stephen King horror movie starring a young Drew Barrymore.

As the film's producer, he selected Wilmington and Orton Plantation in Winnabow as the place to shoot "Firestarter " for Executive Producer Dino De Laurentiis. Capra found the perfect house and built a replica that was burned for the film. The next year De Laurentiis decided to build a film studio in Wilmington.

Having known Mr. Capra in a small way for the past 10 years, I have to say that I have rarely met a man of such great character as Frank Capra Jr. He despite his power in the industry, always made time to talk to those of us on the way up. Add to that the fact that he inspired and helped facilitate filmmaking here in the South East and you will realize that he was unlike most others in the industry.

Mr. Capra, you will be missed.

LOCAL CHARITY

Two sets of friends' lives intertwine when the results of a radio station contest force them to confront who they are and realize that what's missing from their lives is each other.

"Local Charity" is a fun romantic comedy written by Bren Pettengill and Chuck Fallaw. The story follows four young singles carrying on long-distance romances, each with a secret identity they must, for one reason or another, protect. A shocking surprise comes when the tabloids find out about the celebrity status of one of the singles and their lives are abruptly thrust into the public eye. Each player in this love tryst suddenly has a lot of explaining to do and everything to lose.

Notes from the writers:

I first began writing, "The Date" a year and a half ago, after my first feature screenplay went into production. Although writing supernatural thrillers and horrors are more my style, I had always been intrigued by relationships and how people go about getting into them, maintaining them and ultimately, making them work. I find love mostly funny, so to explore different relationship scenarios, I decided a romantic comedy would be my next attempt at screenwriting.

Of course, I can do nothing normal, so I concocted an extreme situation for my characters to be tangled up in. A celebrity, a radio contest, hidden identities, long-distance romance, a deviant DJ, compromising contract, meddling mother, psycho stalker, incompetent investigator, confidentiality clause, and a plot that keeps changing the viewer's mind as to who should fall for whom. Or, at least that's what I attempted to do.

Around 84 pages I got sufficiently stuck. Though I had an outline for the entire script and a treatment completed, the scenes were getting more and more difficult to progress to conclusion. That's when Chuck Fallaw of the SC Film Club contacted me via e-mail and asked me if I had anything cooking. He'd come across the website for my feature indie and decided to investigate further. I immediately sent Chuck my unfinished screenplay, which by then was entitled, "Local Charity," and got a response the same day. Luckily, Chuck has the same strange sense of humor I do and told me that the first 84 pages had him hooked. I asked him to become co-writer and he and I banged out the rest of the script within the next two weeks!

I couldn't be happier with how, "Local Charity" ultimately turned out. Chuck inspired and/or wrote several scenes and kept me motivated and moving in the right direction. The response from the few who've had the opportunity to read it has, thus far, been all positive and I'm extremely excited to get this film produced and into theatres, as I truly believe this is the next, "feel good hit of the summer."

ALL ARE PUNISH'D

Travis Watkins has figured out God's plan. God has traded the things Travis loves the most in order to save the soul of one atheist. Once a devout Christian, Travis is enraged by this knowledge and decides he must teach this atheist and God a lesson. His actions are brutal and result in a shocking climax that you will be talking about for days. Still in the end the question will remain: "Are we all punished?"

Written by Charles Fallaw, "All Are Punish'd" is an unflinching look at the pain religion can either cause or reduce.

6 DEGREES OF GENRE

6 DEGREES of GENRE is an innovative project created by Bren Pettingill and Chuck Fallaw of Movie Tao Productions.

The basic premise is altering the 6 degrees of seperation theory in to a film that transforms between 6 different genres all the while staying with in the same story.

The first film is called 6 DEGREES OF DESPERATION and will feature these genres: Horror, Teen Angst, Suspense, Martial Arts, and SCI-FI.

The project is completed by a total of 12 teams comprised of 1st teams and 2nd teams all of who are filming their own specific genre. There are also alternate teams who film other genres for consideration. All the filmmakers will have their work showcased on the DVD even if their specific scenes are not chosen for the final movie.

Again this is a cutting edge project and we have had to put teams in line for the next project, as we have been overwhelmed with requests to participate in this our maiden attempt to complete this endeavor.

BREN PETTENGILL

Bren Pettengill (usually credited as "Bren Allison")is an accomplished screenwriter/actress/director.

Her recent gigs include a spot on ABC’s “October Road,” a featured role in Lion Gate’s “Jack-O-Lantern,” and the part of the murder victim in the award-winning experimental film, “Stragglers”. She also starred in "Night of the Hungry Dead" with South-lan Studios in Lula, GA, and can be seen in award-nominated "Return of the Jackalope," as "Peach". She has directed several film pieces, including two episodes of a paranormal TV show called, “A Paranormal Investigation,” and her feature independent horror film, “Chosen”. She has also written quite a few scripts to be produced by her production company, Movie Tao Productions, co-founded by Chuck Fallaw, including a romantic comedy, “Local Charity,” and a fantasy based drama, “Awake at Life.” Bren will also soon be shopping her TV series pilot episode of “Soul Searchers” to cable networks.

Currently, she is the writer and the Atlanta team co-producer/director with Chuck Fallaw for the movie, “6 Degrees of Desperation,” and is filming a feature length paranormal documentary currently entitled “The Paradoc,” which examines the lives of paranormal investigators throughout the United States.
