It can lead to self-advocacy and empowerment, if used intelligently. This is what DNIS firmly believe in at Disability News and Information Service (DNIS) - a fortnightly news service on the Indian disability sector.

Disabled people account for a whopping 6 percent of India's total population. Deprived of basic rights, they are often ignored when our country planners look into new changes in critical sectors like health, education, transport and commerce.

For far too long, disability in India has been viewed as a thing of charity rather than as a human rights issue. Although as a cultural trait charity may seem well meaning, it creates a dependency syndrome - humiliating indeed for an individual's self esteem.

DNIS aims to empower persons with disabilities by making them, their family members and the society at large aware of their rights.

With disability rapidly emerging as a rights movement in the country, DNIS aims to set a national agenda for the policy makers, by disseminating information and creating awareness about the rights of disabled people.

DNIS aims is to mobilise NGOs, politicians, media, parents, disabled people, educationists, lawyers, architects, designers, town planners, and other civic bodies to create a disabled-friendly and barrier-free society.

They urge your participation by bringing important issues to our attention, by disseminating information you receive from us and by guiding our initiatives through your valuable suggestions.

DNIS is part of NCPEDP's Disability Awareness Unit (DAU). It is supported by European Community and De Samvirkende Invalide-organisationer (DSI), Denmark.
Visit useful Online Directory, www.Sanstha.info/, where you can find Indian Non-profit charitable Organisations, Non-Government Organisations and many more volunteer Organisations.
AbleURLhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06286371486102094286noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7335339394681518077.post-63332238799327069332008-05-26T03:36:00.000-07:002008-05-26T13:36:40.005-07:00E. is for Epilepsy Blog, California, USAName: E. is for Epilepsy Blog
E-mail: paulaapodaca@gmail.com
WebURL: http://epilepsy-paula.blogspot.com/
Address:
California, USA

About Org: Well actually it is different kind of Organisation, I mean it is not Organisation but still I believe it is more then organisation because the blogger is giving information on Epilepsy mostly by own experience One of the best blog on Epilepsy that I have ever seen.
AbleURLhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06286371486102094286noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7335339394681518077.post-69439571968908083072008-05-26T03:27:00.000-07:002008-05-26T13:37:38.528-07:00Epilepsy Therapy Project, Middleburg, VA, USAName: Epilepsy Therapy Project
E-mail: info@epilepsytherapyproject.org
WebURL: www.epilepsy.com/
Tel: 001-540-687-8077
Fax: 001-540-687-8066
Address:
P.O.
