Will gay marriage become an issue for the 2008 election??
Why should it? The Obamas enjoy all the rights, benefits &
protections of being legally married for their family.....
The McCains are also legally married & their family have
the same federal rights & protections as the Obamas so...
you would think that both candidates would support these
basic civil rights for all Americans......Unfortunately this
isn't the case. Perhaps ignorance is bliss for this country or

John McCain's Bigoted Ways.....

John McCain is forcing his homophobic & bigoted agenda
on his state, California & to anyone that will buy into the
perpetual GOP fear-factor. Hasn't America had enough
of this kind of hate-mongers delight? Last week in his
state of Arizona, after months of trying to keep gay
marriage off the ballot, the State Senate was betrayed by
the Republicans & it will appear on the Nov. ballot.....
I asked openly gay Senator Paula Aboud what exactly
happened on the Senate Floor & here's her account:

"We were betrayed @ the final hour. After 4+ months of
strategizing & having a perfect plan to defeat the Marriage
Amendment, one Republican senator betrayed us & failed
to be absent on the final day of the session & the day of the
vote. Betrayal...then during a filibuster attempt by Senator
Cheuvront & me, the Republicans devised an illegal strategy
to break the Senate rules & shut off our mics in mid-sentence.

GLAAD Media Awards Were Fabulous... :)

Ellen DeGeneres presented the GLAAD Vanguard Award to
Janet Jackson with a little kiss that becomes infamous.....:)
Actually this was one of the most genuine & emotionally
charged celebrations of our LGBT community the TV viewing
audience has ever witnessed..... :) We'll have a link to the show

Great News!! GLAAD Pres. Neil Giuliano will be chatting with us
about the show, our LGBT community in the industry & the good
work of GLAAD in the next few weeks.... :)

The 19th Annual GLAAD Media Awards found a new home on Bravo!
Over the past few months, San Francisco, LA, Miami & NYC
hosted award events to be shown in this celebrity studded, glam
spectacular including Janet Jackson, Ilene Chaiken, Sharon Stone,
Rufus Wainwright, Wilson Cruz, Mariska Hargitay, Kevin Bacon &
Kyra Sedgwick just to name a few….:)
Bravo has always supported our LGBT community with such shows
as Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List, Top Chef, Work Out & Tim
Gunn’s Guide to Style. This network presentation of the GLAAD
Media Awards reached 84 million households.......:)

Congress Addresses Transgender Rights.....

Congresswoman Baldwin testified @ a groundbreaking
hearing before the House Education & Labor Committee’s
Subcommittee on Health, Employment, Labor & Pensions.
The hearing entitled “An Examination of Discrimination
against Transgender Americans in the Workplace,” was the
first in Congress dedicated exclusively to the issue of workplace
discrimination against transgender Americans.

Baldwin told her colleagues, “Corporate America & the American
people are way ahead of the Congress in acknowledging the basic
truth we hold to be self-evident… that all of us are created equal…
& the laws of the land should reflect that equality. It is high time
that America declare discrimination based on gender identity &
expression unlawful.” Baldwin’s statement continues in
comments……:)

Gay Marriage, California Style....:)

We've heard about Ellen & Portia planning to tie the knot. :)
Well, yesterday the California's Supreme Court ruling went
into effect & gay marriage became the law in another US state!
Thousands of gay couples applied & received marriage licenses.
Recently I had the privilege to interview Jennifer Pizer,
co-counsel in this historic case for our gay marriage
documentary. Here’s an excerpt…..:)

Ms Pizer, what will be happening this week?

“ We will see joy as gay & lesbian couples apply & receive
marriage licenses with the full blessing of the state of
California & we will see couples marrying knowing that
the state to which they pay their taxes & their allegiance
gives them full & equal support as it does to couples
who marry in the state.”
What do you see happening over the next few months?

“We’ll see [gay & lesbian] couples marrying through the
summer & into the fall. This will help show why every
committed couple in the state needs to have the same
opportunity to pledge their commitment & love just like
other couples do.”
What will you being doing this week?

"I will be very busy answering legal questions. And I will
also be busy planning my wedding for October so this is
about as personal as any of this civil rights work can be.
This work is about gay men & lesbians sharing the joy &
love that many of us are lucky enough to find in our lives.”

Governor Deval Patrick's Family Outing...:)

Boston's Gay Pride Parade included Governor Patrick & wife with
their daughter who came OUT this week. :) The Parade was Fabulous
& the costumes were outrageous....:) We'll have pixs later on in the
week. All the LGBT orgs were on hand providing community spirit,
info & political activism...... :)
When I left Boston the Block Parties were in full swing. Both Esme
& Fritz's Street Parties were jammed with hot bodies dancing to
techno blasting through Boston.....Happy Pride Boston!!!

Will the Candidates Address Gay Marriage?

The question isn't really will, it's when....:) We all watched
the Dems on LOGO last summer debate gay marriage.......
Disappointed by their anti-gay marriage position we still
worked our hearts & sweat for them & voted for the Dems in
our primaries. Now with gay marriage becoming the law in
California this issue is about to heat up big time...
Obama has always said he doesn't support gay marriage but
supports civil unions with all the benefits of marriage. In the
past months we have learned that civil unions globally have
created a new group of second class citizens providing only 1/3
the benefits of marriage. In recent months gay marriage &
LGBT rights have been avoided by the candidates in the media.
Obama has mentioned it a few times in primary acceptance
speeches.....And Hillary finally made a reference to the gay
community's quest for civil rights in her bye bye address....
As Hillary gets ready to campaign for Obama it should be
interesting to see if the Dems address our issues or just
continue to only fully support our community behind closed

Massachusetts Should Abolish 1913 Law... :)

When gay marriage became the law in Massachusetts the opponents
quickly enforced an obscure 1913 law that prohibits out-of-state
residents from marrying in the Bay State. Of course this was during
the Romney administration. In 2007 Deval Patrick was elected as
Massachusetts' first Afro-American Governor. The true irony is that
this 1913 law was put on the books to prevent interracial marriages.
The fact that the law remains is a total disgrace.....
Let's discuss the bottom line. By keeping this law Massachusetts
is losing 100 million dollars in yearly revenues by not allowing
out-of-state gay marriages. This means that since 2004 when gay
marriage became legal we've already lost @ least 400 million $$$
if not more.....Now let's address the national gay marriage scene.
New York has ruled that they'll honor gay marriages from other
states & countries. When gay marriage becomes legal in a few
weeks in California they'll allow out-of-state gay couples to marry.
If you're on the east coast wouldn't you rather take the short trip
to Massachusetts then travel across the entire country to tie
the knot ??? Updates to Come...... :)

Why are Americans Afraid of Gay Marriage?

It all comes down to the fear factor. What do we fear the most?
That we're about to run out of oil? The fear of not being able to
define ourselves by the cars we drive? Facing the fact that bigger
isn't better. The houses we bought @ those great interest rates
are losing their value by the day. Or the reality that the grocery
store is becoming like gas prices. Every time you enter the store
the price of every item has gone up. Instead of facing our fears &
addressing these issues let's focus all this energy on gay marriage.
Why should tax-paying, loving Americans be denied protections
& rights for their families just because they're gay? It makes no
sense & it's unconstitutional. This is why the Supreme Courts of
Massachusetts & California ruled as they did..

Gay Couples Seek Marriage Advice.... :)

In Massachusetts where gay marriage has been the law for the
last 4 years we have seen couples who have been together for
decades getting married & receiving statewide protections for
their families. This is Fabulous & long overdue! The downside
of gay marriage is couples getting wrapped up in the moment
& finding themselves in situations that are dissolved because
they didn't take the time to fully address what they were
getting into. We just suggest that CA gay couples planning to
marry chat with a lawyer or counselor & get the facts about
your State's marriage laws before tying the knot. It could save
you a lot of $ & grief in the long run...Updates to come :)

Aussies Create New 2nd Class Citizens...

Well they did it. The Aussies established new 2nd class citizens.
Gay couples will continue to be denied marriage & adoption
rights despite the government's decision to remove a number
of commonwealth laws that discriminate against gays. The Aussie
government passed the legislation to parliament Friday to amend
more than 100 areas of commonwealth law including tax breaks,
social security & health care. They’re also addressing kids of gay
couples to ensure that they’re not disadvantaged because of the
structure of their families. Attorney General Robert McClelland
said "the long-overdue reforms would legally recognize same-sex
couples but not recognize same-sex marriage." For More Info...
This a tough one.... Maybe a step in the right direction but when is
being denied basic civil rights like marriage & adoption acceptable??

The L Word Will End After Season 6 in '09

The official word on the Lword is that it will end after season 6 next
year. Being that this ground-breaking TV show is the only mainstream
program that actually addresses our LGBT issues, this is beyond
disappointing, this is a tragedy. read full story Of course there are
a few gay networks like Logo & Here! but nothing currently compares
to the hot effective way the Lword took on their mission to bring our
Lesbian community to life for the world's viewing pleasure.... :)
FYI, There was a million $ anonymous donation to the Dr. Susan
Love Research Foundation for Breast Cancer in honor of the Lword's
2 actresses Erin Daniels & Leisha Hailey for the storyline they did
addressing the issue.....Thanks whoever you are!! :)

FYI, Elizabeth Keener, the actress who played villainous SheBar
co-owner Dawn Denbo, you know the real bitch, in the 5th season
of the L word, will star as a lesbian FBI agent in a hour long drama
series being developed @ the gay network here!
So the finale of season 5 left with the cast in turmoil & betrayal.
It will be interesting to see how they work-OUT their dilemmas
without becoming a cliché for dysfunctional lesbian relationships
in Season 6.... :)

Our government can be in denial as long as they want about the
financial ruin America is in but the fact is the only people that
are enjoying this are the invasion of European, Middle Eastern
& Asian tourists that are paying 50 cents for our weak dollars
with their stronger currencies & discovering that America has
become a nationwide 1/2 price sale!!
You would think that the government would do something to
divert this financial disaster we're spiraling into. So many
Americans are barely scraping together the money to buy gas,
groceries & make mortgage payments. Get your survival plans
in order. I'm reminded of Bette Davis's quote in "All About Eve"
"Fasten your seat belts it's going to be a bumpy ride.." :)

Writers Return with More TV Violence....

With the end of the WGA writers strike our favorite shows have
returned to the small screen after months of hype & promotion.
For the most part this is great news if you're not a fan of the
overdose of Reality TV we've been fed in the writer's absence.
Unfortunately, this comes with an abundance of new violent
dramatic programming in the last hours of primetime
Perhaps it's better to go to sleep with the mindless scenarios of
Game Shows & Reality TV after all. Or @ least until they can
provide us with a less violent form of adult entertainment..... :)

Florida & Michigan Must Be Counted....

This is the deal about ruling out Florida & Michigan in the
primary electoral process. Whether the DNC intends it or not,
the Party is assisting Senator Obama in his efforts to block any
re-vote or reasonable seating of the delegates. This would be
un-American to also cancel out 1.7 million people from Florida
who voted....

Our debt is in the billions. We have a war raging in Iraq with
no end in sight. The foreclosures are skyrocketing & oil's @ an
all time high making gas prices obscene. Which candidate can
dig us out of this mess?? The only candidate with the experience,
the know how & the passion....Let experience rein... :)
This is definitely a turning point. Obama talks the talk but
with his lack of experience can he walk the walk? With
America in this much chaos is this Obama's time or has our
society become so desperate that they'll go for a slogan
rather then reason....& all of this is
happening as the Dollar is becoming so weak against the

The Ball & Chain of the Media....

Last week the media had a feeding frenzy with the Spitzer
Scandal. Even interrupting regular scheduled TV shows to
give you all the dirt. All the news networks have been
covering this 24/7 so it MUST be really important! :) It's just
the continuing saga of yet another politician being caught
with his pants down. They should be covering the scandal of
the homophobic hatemonger Oklahoma Rep. Sally Kern's
rantings comparing the LGBT community to terrorists.
If you haven't heard her rantings by now. Check-it OUT....
The only mainstream media person who brought any attention
to this scenario was Ellen Degeneres on her show Wednesday.
Bravo Ellen, keep up the good work! Check-it OUT.....
Update: Sally Kern refuses to apologize for her remarks. She said:
“I see no reason to apologize for what God says, that homosexuality
is a sin, I will not apologize. I did not say anything false. I did not
say anything malicious or hateful … they are trying to vilify me.
That is their tactics.”

reported inequities in employment practices concerning
gay & lesbian employees & their partners in the State
Department & requested immediate remedial changes.
Baldwin Stated in a letter sent to Secretary of State Condoleezza
Rice: “We have followed with great interest & concern the media
coverage of the workplace inequities facing gays & lesbians in
the U.S. Department of State. As in the case of Former Ambassador
to Romania Michael Guest, the inequitable treatment of gay &
lesbian Foreign Service Officers (FSOs) & their partners should
not be allowed to lead highly qualified employees to leave the State
Department at a time when their service is needed more than ever.
Many of these inequities could clearly be remedied through your
leadership as Secretary, without legislative changes. We write to
highlight basic & common-sense policy changes that beg your
prompt attention & ask that you act to make eliminating inequities
facing gays & lesbians @ the State Department a priority.”

Lesbian Pulp Fiction Returns to NYC... :)

Beebo Brinker Chronicles is a must-see play produced by Lily Tomlin
& Jane Wagner @ the 37 Arts Theater. Based on the pulp fiction book
by Ann Bannon, the play brings our LGBT community's pre-Stonewall
struggle center stage in this slice-of-life, tongue & cheek, poignant &
extremely sexy drama... :)
This is a significant production that takes the audience back in
time to Greenwich Village circa '50's & '60's when being gay could
land you in jail or worse. The latter being in a heterosexual loveless
marriage pretending to be someone you're not. The stellar cast
brings home the message of how far we've come & yet how far we
still need to go, in this camp & relevant drama. Check it out & tell
your friends. This is a limited engagement...Not to be Missed!!
