Ignorance in those proposing it and ignorance in those of us who believe it.

I have 2 problems with this new angle to ban “Assault Weapons” in the US.

1. The problem with Assault Weapons (if there really is such a thing) is the person who is using it, not the weapon itself. How much of an education do you have to have to understand that simple truth? For instance, a drunk behind the wheel of a car turns that car into an “Assault Weapon”. There are more people killed every year by the “Assault Weapon” car of a drunk driver than by a Semi-Automatic Rifle. So if you use the same logic that the government is using on “Assault Weapons” then they should start banning cars next week.
2. Ban “Assault Weapons” so we can help out the Mexican Government handle the Drug Cartels? Why would we want to help the Mexican Government do anything? Are they helping us with our illegal immigrant problem? Hell yes they are! They are telling their migrant workers and criminals to cross the border to the US for free housing and medical care.

Take rights away from the law abiding US citizens because our government is incapable, unwilling or afraid to tackle the real problems. That is exactly the backward ignorant thinking that has gotten our country into the mess we are in.

The solutions are simple.

1. Make the punishment for using a firearm in an illegal activity a serious penalty. Arrest the culprits, prosecute them swiftly and nail them to the wall, it will deter others from using firearms in illegal activities.
2. CLOSE OUR BORDERS! – If illegal’s cannot cross the borders, then how can they smuggle firearms back across into Mexico?

The Government Stimulus package passed while Law Abiding Citizens were still armed. What will the Government pass after they disarm all of Law Abiding Citizens?????

Obama's Stimulus - A virus to Health Care

This Bloomberg article hits close to home. I work in the computer rental industry, one sector of our business is renting equipment to pharmaceutical companies that are marketing their new products. Sounds like the stimulus plan as written will hinder the development of new drugs and procedures because the Governing body won’t allow their use. The goal is to slow the development and use of new medications and technologies because they are driving up costs.

Read this on Bloomberg and then WAKE UP AMERICA, contact your senators. It is about regulating and taxing farmers for stinky live stock and it is absolutely ridiculous. How could any political appointee seriously propose legislation that is so stupid as this? How can a person look someone in the face and say that we need to regulate pig farts? How can the kids of these morons even go to school, can you imagine what you would have said to your buddy if his dad was really behind a proposal this ludicrous? I would rather waller around in a pig sty all day long than to spend 30 seconds in a room with these buffoons. I would be afraid that if I breathed any air they expelled, the stupidity would seep down into my lungs.

The world is going to hell in a hand basket, our economy is in the crapper, we have serious problems to deal with and all the rocket scientists at the EPA can come up with is a proposal that will bankrupt our farmers just to make tax revenue on Cow Farts under the guise of global warming and being green. You have got to be kidding me.

I say the hell with the EPA, we need a CPA (Citizen Protection Agency), Chuck Norris can head it up, or Ted Nugent or Tom Selleck, someone with common sense who can kick ass and take names, or swing into a press conference on a rope. (not really sure about common sense and the Motor City Madman, but I love his firm stance on gun control – to hit at what you aim).

I will tell you one thing, if president elect Obama has any cojones, he will fire all of the EPA administrators and appoint people with a little bit of common sense.

I will tell you another thing, all of these tax and spend politicians need to break out the history book and brush up on the Boston Tea Party. Those days may not be too far around the corner, ask any gun dealer, go try to buy ammunition, the populace is arming itself faster than anytime in history.

I will stop with this last truism – Al Gore is a putz and if we can stifle the silly ideas of fools like this, we may have a fighting chance to come out of this mess on the winning side.

Too bad it is below freezing outside, I could really use a ride on the Road King to calm settle down

Age old question: Do it all or find a niche

That question continues to pop up in our CameraSecurityNow.com business. We have more than 1800 local installers nationwide in the Tech-Army.org that performs the local installation and support. We have been installing Geovision DVR Servers all across the country for over 8 years. Today I closed a sale that was different from our normal sales orders.

I took a call from Santa Clarita California. It was a short call, took all of 3 minutes. The client wanted 2 Fake Dome Cameras and he needed them on Saturday. He thought we had a local store where he would pick them up. I explained we were in Franklin, Ohio, but I could ship them to him overnight with Saturday delivery. He asked for my email address, said he would email the order information. I did not think much about it, never thought he would send any email.

To my surprise, I received all of his company information, delivery information, UPS shipping number and payment in an email about 4 minutes after I hung up the phone.

Turns out that the 5” Fake Dome Cameras are going to be used in a future episode of “The Unit”. But last weekend, it was cold and rainy and a friend of mine invited me over for dinner and a movie. The dinner turned out to be carry out Chinese and the movie was “Wild Hogs”. The dinner was good and the movie was funny, but the High Tech projector she had to play the movie was amazing.

It was an Epson MovieMate 72 Multimedia DVD Projector. She had rented it from Rentacomputer.com for a sales presentation she had earlier in the week. It was sweet, it is billed as “The ultimate high-definition projector, DVD and music player combo, Epson MovieMate 72 takes big-screen entertainment to a new level with precision 720p resolution. Enjoy larger-than-life entertainment. It's the all-in-one product with built-in progressive scan DVD/CD player and four 5 W Dolby 5.1 DTS stereo speakers. Epson MovieMate 72 displays standard DVDs in even more detail at high-definition 720p resolution. It projects images up to eight times larger than on a 40-inch, widescreen TV.”

John McCain is a Class Act

John McCain was not my first choice for the Republican Presidential Nominee. If truth be told, he might not have made the top 5. I believe the Republican National Committee gave this race up before it even started. I think anyone worth their salt did not run because they thought they would be running against Hillary and the Clinton machine. Well Obama set the country on its end and now he and the democratic controlled Congress and Senate will have 2 years to prove themselves. I hope he is the man he has portrayed himself as.

Now for McCain. Not my first choice, he made a lot of mistakes during the campaign and it was too late, but probably gave the best speech of the campaign last night after it was over.

It was a classy speech, it showed character and you can trust that he meant this “I urge all Americans ... I urge all Americans who supported me to join me in not just congratulating him, but offering our next president our good will and earnest effort to find ways to come together to find the necessary compromises to bridge our differences and help restore our prosperity, defend our security in a dangerous world, and leave our children and grandchildren a stronger, better country than we inherited.”

Let’s see if President Obama, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid are classy enough to work the Republicans to get something positive accomplished.

Read the full text of his speech

Projector Rentals

As summer is long gone, as well as the many summer weddings, and we find ourselves almost at the end of the fall convention session, I thought I would try to give one last “bump” to our Projector Rentals.

Of course projector rentals are popular for spring or summer weddings with our customers using them to display slide shows of the happy couple during their youth and courtship. This is a classic and common use for a projector rental on the non business side. As the short term nature and the importance of the event both lend themselves to the rental scenario.

Then there is the common business projector rental that makes its way to a trade show or convention during the busy fall season. Thought we hope our personal rental customers are not on the pace of a weeding a year, even a business that has a need for a projector only once a year may find itself in the same situation as the happy couple described above. That situation is of course a short term and very infrequent need for some high end AV equipment rentals. The natural solution is of course a call to a Tech Travel Agent. Well according out our Xponex internet marketing people you create a blog just on that item. To which I say brilliant!

So today we have started a new blog just on monitor technology. We have simply named it “A Monitor Blog” with a working subtitle of “Display Technology News”. In the upcoming months and hopefully years to come, we will use this blog to inform our customer of the benefits of various monitor or display technologies.

One current topic comes to mind for a potential first post. That being the encroachment of LCD displays on a high end market once dominated exclusively by plasma units. Not being tied to any single display technology we will use this blog freely to investigate any new monitor technology that might emerge and we look forward to watching the technology advance.

Of course keep in mind that the www.rentacomputer.com offers a complete range of these monitor technologies for short term needs. Very common these days are the large screen and high end plasma rentals, with large screen LCD rentals in second place. Also still very common are the general purpose monitor rentals and the occasional big daddy of the group, the Video Wall Rental.

So now that you have an idea of what our monitor blog will be about I hope you get right over there and check it out.

Are you a Teach Travel Agent because Google says so?

First of all a quick thanks to my longtime friend and associate Bill Schiering for his invitation to post on his blog while he is out this week wrapping up one last summer vacation. Thought I am no fan of motorcycles or fishing for that matter, I thought I would write about something related to technology that we do have in common. That thing is Google and Computer Rentals.

If you were not aware Bill Schiering is the Vice President of www.rentacomputer.com and he has done a great job over the years with the firms internet marekting.

Today I was looking over his many websites that explain his unique approace to this concept. That is that Tech Travel Agents are who you call to book / reserve short term technolgy rentals anywhere in the US, or Canada. Much like a traditional travel agent a Tech Travel Agent makes sure you have the short term computer or audio visual hardware at the right spot to make your event or trip a successful one.

Bill has even created a website just for the concept. The website is curently doing quite well in Google for the serach term “Computer Rentals”. Which, being just a small website, goes to show what a good job Bill has done to promote it.

The success of this concept has in my opinion been made possible by the multiple layers of interrelated event rental blogs and PC Rental websites that each in their own wey help explain and promote the relationship between computer rentals and Tech Travel Agetns.

This of course brings me back to the point of this article, and the reality that Bill may have become the victium of his own success and truely become what Google says he is. As this Google result illustrates “Contact Me! I'm your Technology Travel Agent... Bill Schiering”

Nice job Bill and much continued success.

Andy

Words of Freedom - The Blog

Just a quick post to mention a new Blog my friend Andy Wendt started last week. The Blog is called Words of Freedom. Andy has always been a history buff and had an interest in our countries founding fathers. This Blog is a great fit for him because he seldom misses a chance to look up some famous quote or learn a bit more about those often forgotten beliefs from our past. So if you have an interest in our American history or just enjoy a good quote then take my recommendation and check out Words of Freedom by Andy Wendt.

THE OHIO SMOKING BAN NEEDS TO BE REVISED!

I believe in good friends, good times and supporting your community. But most importantly, I believe in becoming involved. If something is not right, don’t sit back and complain, become involved.

For these reasons, I ran and was elected the President of the Middletown Aerie #528 of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. The Eagles Motto is “People Helping People”. We are a private club and we have always given back to the local community by donating money and our member’s time. Over the past 4 years, we have donated over $500,000 to Local Charities. Thanks in part to the smoking ban, our Local Charities Donation are down $30,000 over this period last year. Our Sales Tax Payments to the State were down $5,000 over this period last year. The Smoking Ban, as it is written, is threatening our ability to support the Community, it is threatening our ability to keep our doors open. It is threatening our States ability to count on Tax Revenues.

Our business is off close to 30%, most of it can be attributed to the lack of participation by our members that smoke. The Anheuser-Busch distributor sales for on premise consumption locations is down 10%, but their overall sales are flat, which means that the smokers are buying at carry outs and drinking at home.

When it hit the ballot for voter approval, Private Clubs were supposed to be exempt. The fine print (not on the ballot summary that the voters read by the way) further clarified Private Clubs with NO PAID employees. So people voted for the bill thinking Private Clubs would be exempt, but that is not what happened.

The Ohio Supreme Court has rejected an appeal by the Ohio Department of Health, which argued that the smoking ban approved by voters in 2006 included an exemption for VFW halls, American Legion posts and other fraternal clubs. They rejected the appeal on the basis that the definition of “employee” includes “wages for compensation for labor”. An employee is not a volunteer.

Cigarettes are a LEGAL PRODUCT. They are sold in every Convenience Store, Grocery Store and Super Market in this state. I do not believe that the State should be able to tell private business that they cannot use, or have their client use a LEGALLY SOLD product on their premises. I work for CFR, Inc., we run several businesses, Rentacomputer.com, CSN1 Technologies, ComputerServiceNow.com, CameraSecurityNow.com, Tech-Army.org, MiddletownUSA.com, MainStreetMonroe.com and Xponex just to name a few. Where is the States intrusion into private business going to stop? Is the State going to tell us that we cannot sell monitors because they cause Eye Strain? Or keyboards because repeated use will cause Carpal Tunnel? I mean, right now, you can’t even use a Gas or Charcoal Grill if you live in an Apartment! WHERE IS IT GONG TO STOP?

The Smoking Voters were duped by the way this issue was presented on the Ballot. The Ohio Supreme Court was unwilling to touch such a Red Hot Issue, but Ohio does have 3 Senators with enough fortitude to stand up for the rights of the smokers, for the rights of private businessmen and for the private clubs. Senators Gary Cates (Butler County), Robert Schuler (Warren and Hamilton Counties) and Bill Seitz (Hamilton County) announced at the Middletown Moose Lodge on Tuesday, June 24, that they are introducing a bill to reflect what the voters actually voted on the first time. If passed, the bill would allow smoking at private clubs and family owned businesses.

Time will tell, it looks like this legislation may pass the Senate and the House, then we will see if our Governor has the fortitude to right a wrong.

Projector News and Articles

Just wanted to help pass that word about a great new blog I came across a few months back that is dedicated to LCD Projector technology and its use. The blog is simple titled "The Projector Blog". Personally I enjoy how the blog is written for the non technical user. Keeping with that low tech approach The Projector Blog targets more practical aspects of LCD projector technology such as which specs are most important when choosing a projector to buy, or how the technology is commonly used within a market.

One article the stands out in my mind, because it came in handy as I planned out my own media room was entitled “Should I get a screen for my projector”. A simple subject that I appreciated having some input on so that my hard earned cash for this project was not wasted by my lack of education on the subject.

So again if you are interested in LCD projectors I am giving The Projector Blog two thumbs up.

Missouri Makes My Day

One of my favorite parts of the day is when I get to meet new Tech-Army members. For those of you who may not have heard of the Tech-Army it’s a nationwide organization of technicians, installers, engineers, and technology experts that all work together providing technical services to small and medium sized companies.

The other day I had the privilege of speaking with a new member, David Rogers, from Eye Spy Electronics in Herman Missouri. David has been in the Security Camera business for several years now and can provide onsite CCTV installations anywhere in Missouri.

With vendors like David Rogers the Tech Army is able to provide services in even the remotest parts of the country. Not that Missouri is all that remote but you get the point. So from services like Missouri CCTV to Missouri Computer Service, these great Tech-Amy members get the job done. Although it makes my day meeting such good people I know that if there are more service providers like David Rogers in Missouri to be found it’s our customers who really benefit.

Laptop Rentals For Summer Vacation

Summer and sunny beaches are just around the corner and many people are making vacation and travel plans for the season. I would guess those pages had been there, but empty of much content, for at least a few year. Well that’s not the case any longer. Now that list of well done web pages for Texas Cities, of course covered by our local security camera installers, includes: Arlington Security Cameras, Austin Security Cameras, Corpus Christi Security Cameras, Dallas Security Cameras, El Paso Security Cameras, Fort Worth Security Cameras, Garland Security Cameras, Houston Security Cameras, Irving Security Cameras, Lubbock Security Cameras, and finally Plano Security Cameras.

However I do have some work for them on this project as we plan to list our local installers on each page and continue to add local stories about CCTV installs and applications in each of those Texas towns.

So if you have a need for Security Cameras in Texas just take a look at the above list and rest assured we have Texas covered with top qualiuty security camera systems!

Virginia Computer Service Always a Pleasure

Working for a nationwide computer service provider has a lot of advantages. We get to meet people from all over the country and of course take care of a lot of computer problems in places we have never heard of. But quite often we get to help people in places we know and love. Such is the case with our Virginia Computer Service Now customers.

By chance Virginia is one of those places where I have visited often over the years. From visits to the relatives, to fishing or hunting trips, or even just a vacation on the beach, there has always been something about Virginia that keeps me coming back.

Apparently there is also something about Computer Service Now that keeps our Virginia Computer Service customers coming back. Though I would like to think the native population can sense my love for their state and that my likeable personality is just too much to resist, I guess it would not kill me to admit that our great onsite staff of computer technicians in Virginia could have something to do with it.

So if by chance you find yourself in Virginia, reading this article, and in need of any manner of IT service, from a simple PC repair, to help buying the right Small Business Server, I hope you can give me a call and make my day all the more enjoyable with the opportunity to work with a customer in one of my favorite places.

Technology The Old-Fashioned Way

Laptop rentals have been a really enjoyable part of my job now for over 20 years. It’s hard to imagine where all that time has gone. But over the years Rentacomputer.com has turned into one of the largest nationwide laptop rental suppliers in the business. Every year we ship and deliver countless thousands of laptops that help both the business professionals, and the average Joe, accomplish a critical short term task.

A few months back we started a new website for laptop rentals. The new website is RentOurLaptops.com. Though I love the website and the concept of on-line laptop rentals I can’t help but worry that after 20 years my job might be being outsourced right in front of my eyes.

Though such websites don’t always take off right away I did notice that in both Google and Yahoo the new website comes up on the first page already for the search term “laptop rentals”. What really has me worried are the 50 largest laptop rental markets they have targeted by city. They already have the first 30 some pages done and with topics as specific as “New York City Laptop Rentals”, “Los Angeles Laptop Rentals", and “Las Vegas Laptop Rentals”, I expect the online orders will only grow.

Lucky for me Rentacomputer.com still does things the old fashioned way. We talk to clients and advise on the best products then schedule accordingly to provide complete turnkey technology rental solutions. So if you have a need for a laptop rental anywhere in the US, you could of course go to that new website and place an order or you could give me a call at 800-736-8772 x225 and get it done in person.

Wireless PTZ Solutions

If you have been thinking about a Security Camera System but have been reluctant to get the project started due to concern about how to handle some remote locations that needed video surveillance, then this product is worth note.

The Shepherd SH-200 and Shepherd SH-600 are complete wireless transmission systems designed for industrial outdoor use. My first visit was lunch time, so I had an Almond Joy Frappachiller, Buffalo Chicken Wrap, Chips and a Cookie. The Frappachiller and the Buffalo Chicken Wrap were both top notch.

The girls behind the counter, Peggy Lacy and Laurie Triick were fantastic, they helped me decide on what to have for the first time. They are very excited about being open and very happy with the support they are getting from the Monroe Community.

I met an off Duty Monroe Fire Fighter and his wife, Aaron and Cathy Vance. They have been in a bunch of times. Aaron’s favorite is the Carmel Macchiato and Cathy’s is the Milky Way Frappachiller.

Kidd Coffee carries 5 different brews everyday. They always have a Dark Roast, Medium Roast, Decaf Roast, and Highlander Grog (House Specialty). The 5th brew is rotated between different flavored bean roasts. The flavored bean roast was Crème Brulee the first time I stopped in.

They also sell their beans, and they can even grind them up for you. They plan on having wireless internet access as soon as it is available in the plaza. They are currently working with Time Warner Cable and the Plaza developers. They will offer wireless internet access as soon as it is available to them.

Monroe Kidd Coffee is owned and operated by Steve and April Craft. I did not meet them on my first visit, but I have met them often since. They are excited to be open and are looking forward to serving the Monroe Community coffee for years to come.

My favorite so far is the Highlander Grog, Peggy Lacy said she liked them all and Laurie Triick’s favorite is the Peach Fruit Smoothie which she said was “Out of this World!”

To read more about the Kidd Coffee in Monroe visit this forum link on the Monroe Community Website.
Bill Schiering

New York File Server Rentals

Just a special thanks to the guys at Xponex Media Services for getting started on our new file server rental project.
