I am offering a new product for family photography! I am very excited to announce my fun family sessions that will be all about family, but not in the traditional portrait sense. I will work with you to choose a few activities such as finger painting, baking, playing soccer... and I will spend two hours photographing your family interacting and having fun. Sessions will be $200 and $500 for sessions that include an album, but for the first month sessions will be $100 and sessions with an album will be $400. To get the special deal you must book with in the first month (don't worry if it takes me a while to get back I will be away from my computer for the net two weeks)

Other reminders before I leave (on Saturday!!)

I will be working on some new projects (will introduce soon) so for the next few months my sessions will be limited. It seems WAY too early to be talking about holiday cards, but all holiday cards must be ordered by Nov. 15th this year to keep me organized and sane :) That means sessions should be booked for September and October. I will be shooting holiday sessions the first week of November, but thats the latest to book. Holiday spots went fast last year (thank you!) so please book early enough to guarantee a spot (I am really bad at saying no to last minute holiday shoots but I am determined not to go crazy this year:)

In my opinion programs are redundant, but I do like the opportunity it handed me to write a formal thank you to our guests and family. I have very few wedding details to finish, and I thought I would go ahead and get these printed since we leave in seven days. YIKES!

In non-wedding news, I saw Mama Mia tonight with my mama and it was superb. A+++. I am a fan of musicals, though. I wish that we could sing and dance in the real world. Can you imagine? Mid-fight with your hubby and he breaks out in song. Brilliant!

I never lost the urge to sing and dance, even when there is no music. I think all children have this ability and it is my opinion that a child dancing and singing is the most infectious happiness.
Good news for me, I am marrying a man who shares my excitement for rocking out while baking cookies or vacuuming.

We do have fun.

I am a night owl so my day is not over yet, and this blog post does count! I have een swamped all day answering emails, proofing, and finalizing wedding details, so I didn't have a chance to snap a picture tonight. I have a feeling I am going to have so much time on my hands when the wedding is over. 16 more days! Can't wait.

Dropping in from a night full of editing to say...

I had a client email a few days back requesting a portrait party. It has been a long while since I advertised for pps so I thought I would make tonight's blog post all about the PP.

Porrtrait Parties still work like this:

-You (the host) emails me and books a date
-You invite two or more families to join the party
-there is no session fee for anyone
-each family gets thirty minutes in front of the camera

BUT NOW:

- When you book a PP, you reecieve a complete information packet complete with 5x7 invitations and envelopes to send to your guests. Summer is the perfect time for PPs and everyone who comes saves the $150 session fee. PPs don't have to be held at your house, they can take placec at a local park or anywhere you wish.

Creative brain; talent-less hand

When I was in school, my least favorite subject was art. I found the classes incredibly frustrating and not because elementary school art is ridiculously hard, but because I just wasn't that good at it. I could always visualize exactly what I wanted to end up on the construction paper but my hand would never cooperate with my vision. It is fair to say that I was always the worst artist in any of my classes. I have multiple disfigured clay sculptures to prove it.

As I got older, I looked for other outlets to exercise my creative brain. I tried acting classes, and after one particularly embarassing audition decided that I was too much of an introvert to act; I made movies with my friends (mostly horror movies with a scream mask and ketchup blood);I wrote often (and still do); And I wrote/directed plays that were performed in the middle of our col de sac for the bargain price of 10 cents per ticket.

When I graduated from high school, I subconsciensly convinced myself that,since I never really excelled at any of my attempts to be the creative right-brained person that I am, whatever degree I pursued should be analytical . I dove into my biology degree and made good grades. I was a succesful college student, especially when compared to many of my peers who were failing classes and dropping out. But by sophomore year, I was ready to try out a new major, completely bored with calculus and chemistry.

I can't really pinpoint the exact moment that I knew I wanted to be a photographer. My mom still asks what made you want to do this, again? I had taken film classes in high school which I enjoyed, but it was some time my sophomore year during a faintly confusing time in my life that photography found me.

I will ALWAYS have a love for portraiture. Watermelon Photography is such a blessing. It is a bright, airy, colorful slice of the photography pie. While I am in the brainstorming steps of really making Watermelon all that it can be, I also have a yearning to explore the art of photography through fine art, particularly landscapes. When I visit Ireland in a month, I am going to spend as much time as possible capturing the beautiful landscapes the way I see them.

So, thats where I stand now in my affair with photography. I am the once talent-less artist who finally found her place behind a camera.

Anyone who has planned their own wedding knows how it feels to be completely consumed by the six hour event. While I am counting the days till I become Mrs. Bryan Nevins, I can't say I am a bridezilla obsessed with her weight (haven't lost a pound) or calling every vendor in town to find the perfect powder blue for her linens. I'm just not a party planner. When I first got engaged, I though I can't wait to plan my wedding! But after many months of being forced to choose linens (blue is nice, right?) a full menu (my sister took over here) and ceremony music (imagine mispronouncing famous composers in a slightly southern accent) I learned that I am missing the wedding-planning-girl gene. HOWEVER, there are some wedding details that I am head over heals in love with. One is my dress. It happens to be the very first dress I tried on. It is beachy, vintage, and completely me. If God made a man just for me it is Bryan, if he made a wedding dress for me, it is hanging in my closet (actually my mom's closet so my nosey fiance doesn't peek.) Another obsession is my something blue-my shoes.

It was orginally my New Year's resolution and now in the middle of July I have finally decided that I am up for the challenge. I love the idea of the blog. I also love having a journal of every day and professional happenings in my life, so here goes nothin'- a blog a day. Those of you who follow my blog might know how horrible a blogger I am; sometimes my posts have no words at all (yikes). You will have to excuse my lack of blogging from July 26th to August 10th because I will be out of town for my wedding. A valid excuse, I think.

I will be back tomorrow with pictures and words!

I am going to be giving 50% off prints to everyone who books a session before this Saturday. The session must take place between August 15th and the end of the year, but must be booked before this Saturday.

Also, I am looking for a model for this coming Satrday's workshop. We will be shooting for about 45 minutes in Frisco. Ages 3-5 preferred. Free CD of a few edits for your own printing.
