That is because you are even though you didn't have to.

I take to the glass because I want to, for reasons heard only by few.

In time what waits is inevitable. But when the inevitable waits no longer, only time will tell.

Willingness is not "it". Nor is it half of "it". It takes willingness, knowledge, effort and focus to make "it" and even then each of these cannot describe "it".

Promises ARE made to be broken. Because the more someone means to you, the more you try to keep that promise no matter what comes up to make you break it.

--these are some random shots of thinking I had a few hours ago up to posting. no, none are inter-related. no, they don't necessarily have anything to do with me. as stated earlier, random shots of thought. just one of the things a boring sermon does to me.

reading on...

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://ihaveanoveractivemind.blogspot.com/2009/02/glass-among-others.html' title='Glass... As we drove away I noticed a sticker on the rear window of the car. When I took it off after I got home, it was a receipt for gas. Luckily my friend told me not to stop as it could be someone waiting for me to get out of the car. Then we received
this email yesterday:

WARNING FROM POLICE THIS APPLIES TO BOTH WOMEN AND MEN:
BEWARE OF PAPER ON THE BACK WINDOW OF YOUR VEHICLE -
A NEW WAY TO DO CARJACKINGS

Heads up everyone!
Please, keep this circulating... You walk across the parking lot, unlock your car and get inside. You start the engine and shift into Reverse.

When you look into the rear view mirror to back out of your parking space, you notice a piece of paper stuck to the middle of the rear window. So, you shift into Park, unlock your doors, and jump out of your car to remove that paper (or whatever it is) that is obstructing your view. When you reach the back of your car, that is when the carjackers appear out of nowhere, jump into your car and take off . They practically mow you down as they speed off in your car.

And guess what, ladies? I bet your purse is still in the car. So now the carjacker has your car, your home address, your money, and your keys. Your home and your whole identity are now compromised!

BEWARE OF THIS NEW SCHEME THAT IS NOW BEING USED.

If you see a piece of paper stuck to your back window, just drive away. Remove the paper later. And be thankful that you read this email. I hope you will forward this to friends and family, especially to women. A purse contains all kinds of personal information and identification documents, and you certainly do NOT want this to fall into the wrong hands.

Please keep this going and tell all your friends.

reading on...

In memoriam, Ms Tetch

Augustinians, (esp. 4th yr Augustine SY03-04) one of our teachers, Ms Tetch, left us last Saturday. Forgetting my jacket this past Wednesday probably started it. Oh wait that's not it. GOING TO SCHOOL last Wednesday was the start of it. Had to go through several walks in the cold rain before entering an air-conditioned mall. I knew I was screwed when it started not feeling normal. I knew I was gonna end up sick. Just not when. Well, I don't have to wait any longer for that. VERY. But still, I'd rather get this done with.

My friends and I went out the Saturday before my birthday. The morning had ECESAFE written all over it. Fire safety and CPR training. Yes, Actar 911 was ergonomic I have to admit. Anyway, After that, we had COMMSYS projects to do. We left school at around 5.

I planned to try out Hooters but there was an objection (too bad). So we ended up at Cafe Adriatico. A Venneto (Phil's suggestion) was full, TGIF (Jet's suggestion but he backed out BWAHAHAHAHA), and Guilly's (let us not mention of that until after a few more years).

Attendance check:

Me (malamang)
Bols
Grace
Chard
Phil
Angel
Miggi
Jet
Bra
Guids
David
Nikki (late bwahahaha)

Let us not forget the celebrities who were there as well.

The fireworks took us by surprise (I just finished ordering for the most part). But I managed to get a fairly decent shot. The food was good (more PlaPla!!!) hehe but the sinigang was not too much to my liking (not fond of apricots, well at least I think they were apricots hehehe). The gising gising was nice (bicol express haha)

As for the drinking, I settled on a mangojito pitcher which had lots of "veggies". Also a double-shot of Bailey's (di halatang double no?) and *koff* *koff* a shotofhennessyxo hehe. There was a lot of talking going on. Bols was doing a good job of cleaning his side of the table. We stayed from around 6:45 to almost 11:00pm at Cafe Adriatico. Hehe.

After that, parking building, taxi stand, a little of the olympics (can't remember who the US was up against in basketball) and The Adventures of Tintin on DVD. Usual detour.

reading on...

Its not AOOT. And from what I observed, the source of many sleepyheads and powernappers for this day.

I guess our professor was right in a sense. The bulk of the work on the project was done only a few days prior to submission. Although given, there were a lot of things to be submitted during these past few weeks.

Granted that classes were suspended yesterday (suspend them before the friggin' lake appears in front of the conservatory next time!), we divided our work between our group. I dealt with the documentations and although I produced the shortest paper of the groups I've seen so far, (well, we have SOHO anyway... bite me... =P ) I did manage to get some sleep (around 11 to 1, 2 to 4 and 4:10 to 5 which is weird since I should have just finished the paper and gotten a big chunk of sleep). Regardless, we already resigned to the fact that we wouldn't get the blueprints in time for class. N.S. Ocana in Quirino Ave. doesn't have printing services. Only their Makati branch does. But if Gracee and her group closed SM Manila the night before, Breggy opened it this morning.

No, Joanna didn't get to school before Sir Mappy left the room. In fact, Frank got the blueprints almost right after he left the room. Fortunately, he hadn't left the faculty room to go to lunch yet. He was just about to. And for the nth time this week, my negotiating ability worked wonders again. From what I recall, he didn't count us late.

"Its not almost out of time. Its just in time."

reading on...

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://ihaveanoveractivemind.blogspot.com/2008/08/its-not-aoot-its-jit.html' title='Its not AOOT. It turns out, even those kinds of phones have the "no space for new messages" sign. The funny thing is, it turns out that it was there all week. Once I deleted a few messages, the backlog started flowing in. Around 10 messages. And as luck would have it, for once, NOT ONE of them was spam. Well, I never really expected my P990i to fail me like that. I mean, it only had 1800+ messages in it. Around 2000+ in the sent items I guess. Watching the opening ceremony of the 2008 Olympics in Beijing is a welcome break from studying for the two exams I have tomorrow. It kind of looks like that RPN is streaming the feed from CCTV (no, not closed-circuit television) with the exception of the voice-overs. Well, in any case, I DO have to get back to the books. This morning though, was a lot worse than I could normally deal with. I hope it wasn't noticeable. But really. I never felt that run down in months. Nauseous, dizzy with a splitting headache. I think lunch helped. The soup made me feel a bit better. But the stuff needed to be done makes me think too much. Me and my dad took a pit stop at Petron SLEX in spite of the rain. I needed something to calm me down. In the end, the drink did help a bit. But I remembered what one of my friends said about the simple things making you smile. I rarely go there anymore. But in spite of that, they still remembered me. Kind of funny since they remember my name and not my dad's although he's the one who usually pays.

reading on...

I think I'm...

gonna be sick. Fortunately, I was not held up by the Puregold incident. After a quick lunch at granny's, I planned to go to GSC for both thesis and non-thesis related errands.

The thing is, I can't take the LRT-MRT route for obvious reasons. So I took an FX to Buendia where I walked over to Harry's Liquor and Harrison House of Wine. Nice selections especially for the ones I'm looking for.

I just took the bus to Ayala but unfortunately, the one I rode on only goes up to the Enterprise Towers. So a few more minutes of walking. Good thing I ate lunch then. After that, Taking the MRT during the noontime rush hour is definitely something I want to avoid now.

Decided to visit the EDSA Shrine and found something worth a second look (I'll be back, eventually). And then a short jeepney ride to GSC.

At GSC, I thought of looking at the Holy Family Gallery and I wasn't disappointed. For one thing, its free to go in there. Just ain't allowed to take photos (not that I mind). I got the contacts I needed, and I was able to visit eyo sales on the third floor so my list was crossed out for the day.

Heading back, I really had no idea what came over me. I decided to walk from GSC to the Ortigas MRT station. Given, it wasn't the longest walk I took. And I wasn't stupid enough to wear my jacket that time. Anyway, its exercise. By the time I got to MRT Ayala station, I was kind of tired. So I took the bus home instead of the FX. Which also means I didn't get to play at TimeZone and I didn't get a sweet refill. Well, doesn't matter much anyway. Doraemon was gone for quite a while. Maybe I'll play again when he's back.

And no, walking is NOT my favorite pasttime.

reading on...

One Long Day

Thinking that a day would be like any other proved to be a big mistake.

After lunch, we hung out in the corridor. Torch "MANTECH boy" Torchiva got addicted to playing Bleach on the PSP. Our ENPROMA class was "rudely" (read yaaaaay!!!) interrupted by a power interruption. When the power returned, "bra" showed his magician's skills by making the power go out again. Long story short, we cut around 30 mins from enproma class.

At ecelaws, engrduls confronted me with several contorts to a not-so-simple case. Jeeez. I am so definitely gonna pay her back. Nyahahahaha!!! When I eventually study for it.

I fell asleep at feedcon. This is one thing I do in class that I really miss my friends for. My hand hurt after all that writing though.

Good thing tomorrow is a half-day for me. Still hadn't reached halfway of the HPMPG case. Might get to see my aunt and uncle tomorrow too. Could turn out to be another busy day.

reading on...

A Weekend of Thoughts

A friend of mine told me that "Thinking per sè gets us stressed, not thinking about our experiences". Now I always thought that experiences make us think about them, but the more I think about it, that isn't always the case.

I've spent the past weekend thinking. Even when I agreed to go to the courts with my parents, I was still thinking. "How far have I gone?", "What do I still have to do?", "What do I want to accomplish?"

Recently, I added another thing to the list of things I want to do. That is, an addendum to the already lengthy list I have. Will I ever get to accomplish all of them in my lifetime? There it goes, another question in this mind of mine.

The last question of mine happened to be related to the irony of life. Perhaps it was due to the circumstances of the weekend, relating to the reason why we didn't go to mass last night.

Still, in case anyone bothers to point out, these questions don't relate to my studies. I have already accepted the facts regarding my studies long before writing this entry.

"Each outcome is the result of infinite causes converging into a single point."

-man, my friends were right. I do think too much.

reading on...

When your mind is not calm, you cease to see what is beautiful.

I know this won't apply to everyone but it sure applies to me. This past week has been one tiring day after another. It officially ends on Tuesday but the fact that I can sleep soundly tonight is a big deal. Last week, I could not appreciate well the beautiful things around me. The environment, the people, except maybe for the funny stuff that happened while reviewing for the exams.

This afternoon, exams over, I went to one of my usual hangouts. During the mass, as usual, I was standing outside. The wind blew and shook some leaves off a tree behind me. It instantly changed the atmosphere of the place and probably, I would not have noticed had I an exam next week.

One of the performers for the Weekend Fete gave me a coupon and who am I to resist a free item. Turns out, I just had to fill out a survey for Shangri-La Hotels and I get a cookie. Is it really noticeable that I am a Lasallian? Or did my green (non-DLSU) shirt give me away? Whatever it was, I can't say I wasn't shocked when the rep in the Shang boutique at GB5 asked outright if I was studying in La Salle. Either way, the conversation did keep me awake. And they were nice ladies too.

Before I went home, I decided to pass through GB5 one more time since there were a lot less people walking in that direction. Someone was testing the tiles in the walkway for the light patterns and I have to say, I couldn't help but bring out my little PaS. The patterns were nice and bright and I would definitely not have seen it had I been preoccupied. If I was, I'd go the other way and not see this. Hehe.

Some of my learnings today (not necessarily related to the post above)

1. Beauty is best seen with a calm mind.
2. Good rapport may have an upside, but as with everything else, it has a downside too.
3. Being tired doesn't get you lost. A wandering mind does.
4. JW is nice and classy when big, but cheap looking when tiny.

reading on...

Now Boarding: Flight "PR A15" Bound for Baclaran

Two hours ago, an exam just ended. Not mine, I passed it early because the parts I couldn't answer were the ones I weren't able to study (ehem FEEDCON...)

So when the fact that I would never be able to get a grade higher than a 75 (provided I didn't do anything else wrong) settled in, I started the long trip home. The LRT was a bit crowded but nothing like the sardine-can-like crowding you normally get during rush hour. I thought that there was a tour group in the car because of a guy telling the people to hang on to the rails, not to lean on the doors, watch over your valuables, etc. The guy wasn't the recording by the way.

The train ride was uneventful. At least that was what I thought. Upon reaching EDSA station, I suddenly heard someone say "We have arrived at EDSA Station, thank you for FLYING PHILIPPINE AIRLINES" then a few more reminders and then "Mabuhay!". It's kind of similar to the PEP Squad as far as I noticed.

As for the rest of the trip home, I'll just include that on the "things I really want to forget" list.

Finally, a link that I don't want to post a separate entry for,

1) DS Stylus that I think goes well with multiplayer (duel na lang pag nag-tie no Tammy?) hahaha link: http://tinyurl.com/67czxn

reading on...

Hitting Rock Bottom... Application of a Sermon

The homily I heard at the Sto. Niño de Paz Chapel this afternoon was a real eye-opener. Especially since after I went through FEEDCON Q1, man, it was really depressing.

The priest talked about hitting rock bottom. He mentioned J.K. Rowling's speech at Harvard about the "fringe benefits of failure", even citing what she considered her biggest failure, a broken marriage, losing all financial stability, etc. He cited some of his own, like a swimming pool experience which was due to his height.

I honestly thought that the quiz (and many before that) qualifies. Especially when you fail enough of them to fail a subject. But just a few hours ago, I realized its not only that. I have quite a few experiences like this (but I'll stop myself here. Iba na lang. hehehe).

The mass ended at 5:30 pm. I was on the FX before 6. Really, I'm supposed to be more street smart than this. I should have been suspicious that the driver asked for 70 pesos as fare. But I thought it was due to the gasoline prices. I was definitely suspicious when I saw high-tension power lines in a straight line. There was only one place on the SLEX that I knew I could see those. And I knew I needed to do something when I saw the Wheel of Fate shining in the window.

There was one person I knew who took this route often. Good thing he replied quickly enough for me to get my bearings. To cut things short, I've been to a lot of places today. DLSU, SM Makati, Glorietta, Landmark, Greenbelt, Target Mall, SM City Sta. Rosa and finally home. Definitely the biggest u-turn I took to date.

I guess my other definition of rock bottom aside from total and complete failure would then be a detachment from one's comfort zone. Far, FAR from your comfort zone that you don't even know what went wrong.

reading on...

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://ihaveanoveractivemind.blogspot.com/2008/06/hitting-rock-bottom-application-of.html' title='Hitting Rock Bottom... I've been to Bacolod before. But that was via Negros Navigation to and from when I was still a kid. Seven plants in two days. I never really wondered why before but yesterday, I kind of understood why. Yesterday, my family and I went to Festival Supermall in Alabang to do some grocery shopping. But my dad had to meet a friend beforehand so I chose to walk around a bit. Normally, by this time I would probably be racing around or trying to grab an annoying stuffed item at the arcades but this time, I chose not to.

The arcade at Festival was X-Site, which is run by Tom's World. The thing is, the branch of Tom's World at the Mall of Asia was not so bad. A bit cramped, yes, I'll admit it. But not too bad. But this time, it was really kind of annoying.

Game maintenance was a bit under par. Sure, most arcades have a defective game or two but the condition in which they keep them is a bit unnerving. Percussion Master had packaging tape on the drums which left me wondering if it was a target to show you where to hit, or if it was to hide the tears in the drum. The crane games were less likely to get you a prize, and they still use the token/ticket system for their games. I've been there a few years ago and I know they use cards to store the number of tickets you acquired, so why don't they use those to begin with and skip the tickets? Poor trees, if you ask me. And the tokens are more of a hassle in spite of the games being cheaper. People call coins "spare change" for a reason. They are a hassle to carry around. For single-token games, it wouldn't be too much of a problem. But in the case of multiple-token games, like Wangan Midnight and House of the Dead 4, how many tokens would you need to carry if you intended to go on a marathon run?

As a point, House of the Dead 4 does not have a memory card system as far as I know. So if you want to finish the story, you need to play it in one go. Also, Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune 3 has a time trial track that requires either two or three swipes of a card at Timezone. That would be the equivalent of 6 or 9 tokens at X-Site. Yes, I know that would make me look like an idiot. Thank you.

Finally, the crowd. No offense to those who frequent X-Site or Tom's World who aren't doing this but for those who do, please be considerate to those who want to play. I'm talking about those who sit down on the game just to sit. They don't really play. I know some of you are watching your friends play but occupying a vacant space just to have a better view/position is not the proper way to do it. And yes, it does look silly if you play with the steering wheel when it shows the "insert coin" screen.

As a disclaimer, I'm not saying this kind of thing does not happen at Timezone or any other arcade as well. Timezone branches also vary heavily. Timeone Market!Market! isn't maintained as well as that in Mall of Asia or Bonifacio High Street although the latter doesn't have as much clientele either. Although the Glorietta 4 branch is well maintained in spite of the large number of people I see there.

reading on...

Wandering around...

This morning was supposed to be a routine day for me. Go to Manila to look for something not thesis-related (alam na ito nung nagpapahanap). But since I ended up in Shangri-La, I thought it would be better to get some thesis stuff done as well. Getting the LM35 from Alexan was a piece of cake. What followed was a bit harder.

Objective: Look for a store whose current name and location is unknown (previous name is known). Previous location was somewhere in Mandaluyong.

Clear directions right? Greaaaat...

I distinctly heard our thesis adviser mention Libertad Street a few days ago. Not a bad place to start really. But the tricycle drivers there needed street names to figure out where you want to go. Not that good a thing when you don't know where the place you're looking for is.

No choice but to walk. Being close to lunchtime, I was getting a bit desperate in the search. Yes, I did resort to the Globe 5 Peso per 15 minute 3G browsing method. Unfortunately, I had no idea how to use the e-yellowpages. Scratch that. After a few more streets of wandering (wandering aimlessly I might add) I decided to try something really out of desperation. Good thing there was an internet cafe near Kanlaon St.

10 pesos for 30 minutes for the internet rental. Hmmm... familiar? Anyway, Google still happens to be my friend. The only hint I had was a store name that the people at Alexan told me "Spin Electronics". Quite far from Crystal Sem but I took it anyway. Nothing else to go on to. If you Google the terms Spin Electronics and search for pages found in the Philippines, you might get the same result I did. I should have clicked "I'm Feeling Lucky". That would have made things more interesting.

After that, I tried the eyp again. Now that I knew that what I was looking for actually existed, something did pop-up. Nah, just kidding, I'll 'fess up. I did realize then what I did wrong with the eyp earlier. My screen was reflecting sunlight enough to prevent me seeing Mandaluyong as an approximate location choice (que 5peso coin flying out of my pocket). Needless to say, now I definitely knew where I was going. 64 Kanlaon St. Oh. waitaminute. It seems kind of familiar. Yup. The same street I passed before going to the cafe. Greaaat... Seriously. It saves me a bit of walking time. Right?

My mistake. Turns out, Kanlaon St. is quite long. Or maybe it felt longer because by this time, my feet were already killing me. It was noontime, the sun, blazing in the heavens like it was showing me the way (can't I ask for a dimmer star like the wise men had?).

After finding the store, they gave me a calling card so I could just e-mail orders before picking them up. The security guard then gave me a shortcut. A 5-minute shortcut to the MRT station really. Greaaaat.... Hahahaha

At least when I got to Market Market (my original destination from yesterday), my dad was already there so I didn't have to pay for lunch (not that I ate much... oh yes I did! hahaha). But that was after passing by BHS to see the new decor.

After that, my dad showed me the place where he now gets the cakes he brings home sometimes (believe me. these cakes LOOK familiar hahahahaha). And we went to ATC before going home.

Well, at least I was able to find the store. Wasn't able to buy anything there though. Didn't know exactly what we needed. Although I am generally not a patient person, this is one of the times which would qualify as an exemption. After all, it was I who asked the favor. I just need to pass the time. Thank goodness I found a coffee shop with free Wi-Fi access here in SM Southmall. Of course, I would hope my battery lasts. But still, an hour and 40 minutes as of this, I think it would.

Thinking of what happened for the last few hours, I guess I really haven't grown that much. Yes, I seem to be able to control my temper better. But my prankster side still lives on. I still tend to overthink things. And yes, I still find it difficult to find motivation in the things I do.

Over the past few days, I have seen several blog posts that got me thinking. Aside from that, the songs I heard for the past few days also get me nostalgic. I admit. There is a certain someone I want to see again after all these years. But the chances for that are slim. Still, I would be happy if I did.

Oh yeah. My trusty Compaq is now in the shop for repairs. Yes, it is time for its broken key to be repaired. Most likely, when it comes back, my dad will have a system to take his work around with him. Although I can't imagine him lugging it around everyday like I do, well, that's what the car is for.

I also learned that there are quite a lot of photographers in the family. Something to live up to? Nah. I figured by now, I have my own style and my own pace. I don't need a DSLR right now. Although it would be a nice addition to my arsenal. Photography-wise, I am sort of rediscovering the world of film. Add to that the mistakes I made, disappointing as it is, its fine. I'll take that as a reminder that I'm still learning, which I am.

Sheesh. The music here is really getting me into a nostalgic. What's playing now is "Here Without You". Not that I have someone to dedicate that song to. I might have at one point though. Hehe.

Before I forget, thanks to the person doing this favor for me. Really, I appreciate it. Its not just the hassle of going to school and back, the cost of doing so and the time its going to waste. I have some time now to myself while waiting. And typing this is giving me a chance to clear my mind of things.

Going back on the way I'm writing this, I guess it might be obvious. My mind is chaotic right now. Random thoughts, here and there. It's kind of fortunate that I am not walking around with swirly lines in place of eyes. Another thing, this is the first long blog I wrote in a long time. The first one in a really long time that isn't a gadget review too. Come to think of it, its been a long time since I made one of those.

Come to think of it, in less than ten days, I'll be through with my OJT. Unfortunately (or fortunately) I don't think I would be able to take any summer classes. Regardless, I already accept the fact that I won't graduate on time. I decided that I will not risk the rest of my academic subjects by overloading this coming term. I am already taking a subject I should have re-taken almost three ears ago. And of course, the largest hurdle so far, thesis. I have come this far, allow me to quote "No retreat, no surrender" for my college life.

In the time it took me to write this, I was able to listen to a lot of music. I was able to browse some sites, and I was able to eat a bit. But I still haven't finished my drink. I still have roughly an hour of battery life remaining but I don't intend to drain it completely. Some of my officemates wanted to watch Grey's Anatomy this afternoon, I refused. But I let them watch the RELSTRI video I kept in a dvd. Maybe tomorrow I'll let them.

Regardless, I'll end this entry a bit early. I don't want the clichè bit of having the person I'm waiting for coming round the corner and ending it right there. It's too clichè even for me. Good thing really that this place has Wi-Fi. It goes up to around 50kB/s download so its not bad. Wish there was a Burger King around though. I could have spent less on food. Then again, if I have to splurge on something, I'd rather it be food.

P.S. I have a 36-shot still encased in my camera. Yes, a film camera. With around six shots left, any idea what I could use it on? Please... PLEASE not fireworks. Hehe... That probably occupies more than half of it in there already.

If you read this to the end, I'm taking that you're either really bored or you happen to be one of my close friends/relatives or one of the people interested in my life. I guess if you DO read this to the end, a little appreciation is in order. Thanks for not letting my effort go to waste. Then again, it won't even if no one reads this.

On a final note, NO, the person I'm waiting for isn't here yet. Honestly, I never imagined then that I would go down your path. Years ago, I thought you were huge, a hassle to be tagging along wherever I went. Did I really insult you that badly for you to be taking revenge on me?

To master you is something I have yet to do. Not that I do not want to. But my resources do in fact, dictate how fast I can accomplish that feat. I will not degrade myself by saying that I have no idea of what I am doing. But no matter how good my eyesight is, my hands are too slow. Too inexperienced to bring out your true potential.

Of the tens of thousands of prototypes, less than a hundred would I be satisfied with. Not just through you, but with others of your kind as well. But I know that this is something I like to do. It feels different when I hold you in my hands. You may not be the lightest of the bunch. But to me you feel just right.

Inherited you may have been, in the end, I took back my words. I said I would never accept you but look where we are now. Perhaps it was something with me back then. I guess I won't know that easily. Maybe in time, you could accept me in spite of what I said.

If ever I will know how to unleash your true potential, I will know when I know. Rest assured, you will be with me a while. For now, I will do what I can.
