Passing of Michelle's Best Friend...

This is THE most personal post I think you'll ever see on here...

On July 30, 2007 at 1:30pm, I had to make the hardest decision of my nearly 40 yrs on this earth & put to rest my best friend, Goliath -- my ~13-yr-old German Shepherd mix. He'd been battling Liver, Stomach & Thyroid problems, and could not even get up that Monday morning, nor would he take his favorite treat -- a dog bone/biscuit. My father had to help me & carried him in to the vet's office...

My ex-husband & I adopted Goliath (who at the time was 5-7 yrs old -- they were never sure) on his last day before euthanasia from the Humane Society of Southern Arizona back in November of 1999. I'd grown up with cats, but he wanted a dog.

Goliath was a big, scary-looking boy with nicks in his ears, scars all over his body from fights and huge callouses on his elbows. I was scared of him, in fact, at first -- but if you looked closely, he had the saddest eyes, and you could tell he'd been through a lot on the streets. When he came home, he was definately the "Omega" rather than the "Alpha" -- even with the cats who'd he'd let rub all over him!

Two months later (January 2000), my ex left our newly purchased house after helping me with some pictures for eBay (at that time my business was "SacredWares"), saying he was going out to shop for my birthday. He returned a couple of hours later only to say he wanted a divorce. Needless to say, it was a shock, but my parents, Goliath and my cats were always there for me.
As a matter of fact, the only asset I wanted & received from my divorce were my pets... In retrospect, I got the better end of the deal!

Goliath helped me through a lot these past 7 years, and his passing has been very painful, but I know that I gave him a good life and lots & lots of love -- and he certainly made an impact on mine...
And as my mother said to me that night on the phone from Illinois, "He got happy eyes, when he used to have the saddest.".

I miss you so much Goliath...

IN MEMORIUM....
Older animals and those with special needs are sometimes the most euthanized animals in our shelters across the nation today. Please know that adult, senior and special needs animals sometimes make the very best companions one could have and ever ask for. Yes, you may not have as much time with them as you'd have with a puppy, but they've been through more and NEED the love you can give.

A Few Statistics:
1 - Over $2 billion is spent annually by local governments to shelter and ultimately destroy 8-10 million adoptable dogs and cats due of shortage of homes. (Source: Business Wire Features).

2 - The public acquires only 14% of its pets from shelters; 48% get their pets as strays, from friends, from animal rescuers, 38% get their pets from breeders or pet stores. (Source: The Humane Society of the United States).

3 - Approximately 55% of dogs & puppies and 71% of cats & kittens entering shelters are killed, based on reports from 1,038 facilities across America. (Source: National Council on Pet Population Study and Policy - Shelter Statistics Survey).

Hello All!
Well it's been awhile since I've posted!

As some of you may know, my grandfather had a stroke at the end of April '07.

WE (Joe/Dad & I) ARE STILL PROCESSING, PICKING & MAILING WEB ORDERS (it's a full-time job in-and-of itself).

However, we've had to temporarily close our brick-and-mortar storefront until further notice -- as my mother & business partner (Dianna) is acting as primary care-giver & is in the St. Louis area; and she's the one who usually runs the store.

We're hoping that she will be returning in September, so we may re-open our Benson store.

We've received so many eMails telling us your stories about family members who have also suffered a stroke & we would like to THANK YOU all so very much for your support, encouragement, patience and kind words!

Roughly 315 million Greenies were sold last year, but the breath-freshening treats have been blamed for at least 13 pet deaths and more than two dozen complaints have been filed with the feds.

The maker of Greenies plan to clarify feeding instructions and increase the print size on packaging, which included a small-print warning that gulping any item can be harmful and even fatal.

Hello! We just received a message from AZ Greyhounds (a non-profit rescue group we donate to) regarding ...

CONTAMINATED PET FOOD MAY HAVE KILLED DOZENS OF DOGS
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration reports that at least 76 dogs nationwide are believed to have died as a result of eating contaminated Diamond Pet Foods.

Diamond Pet Foods has recalled 19 brands of dog and cat food for being contaminated with aflatoxin, a naturally occurring toxic chemical by-product from the growth of the fungus Aspergillus flavus, on corn and other crops.

Customers who have purchased the recalled Diamond Pet Food manufactured in the South Carolina plant should immediately stop using it and return any remaining product to their retailer, according to the FDA.

Meet our Newest Board of Director Members

Hi All - Despite being the crazy Holiday Shopping, Picking and Packing Your Orders time of Year for us, Michelle couldn't resist introducing you all to our newest Board of Director Members (Rescues).

As most of our regular customers know, we donate a portion of our website and eBay sales to animal rescue organizations here in southern Arizona ... We also do some rescuing ourselves!

These three cuties were to be culled/killed by a local goat farmer as their mothers were technically too young to have babies and were going to be culled/killed because they aren't purebred Boer's... We, however, stepped in to rescue them yesterday (Saturday 12/03/05).
These little ones are still being hand bottle-fed and will be for another ~45 to 60 days -- They are, however, a bit sick & we're taking them to the vet tomorrow -- seems they have a respiratory infection/problem ...
I'm sure they'll be OK though... just a cold to get over!
They have a large crate they sleep in in our family-room -- The dogs & cats aren't quite sure what to make of them yet.
Yep, as my sister, Kris says, "We're officially over the edge"!!!

Please meet:

CAPRA

Capra, we are told, is a Boer-Sannan mix who is the most active of the three & loves frolicking and suckling Michelle's fingers and bleeting when she's hungry. I chose the name Capra because Amalthea (the Goat Goddess who suckled Zeus) was just too much of a mouth-full to say!

NUBA

Nuba is Dad/Joe's goat who we're told is a Nubian & Boer mix. She's got long ears and a sweet disposition. She also seems to have a bad hind leg that's somewhat stiff... poor thing!

and last but not least....

PAN

Pan is Mom/Dianna's and is definately a runt of the litter and is only about 4 days old... he's also the sickest right now. We're told he's a boer mix, but not sure with what. He's off to the vet tomorrow along with the other two to get their shots & a good check-up.

{On a sad note, Pan passed 2 days after this picture was taken due to severe GI and respiratory infections he'd contracted previous to us rescuing him. His passing has saddened us greatly though he was only with us a few short days.}

This section is slowly being filled with Wiccan Supply and Pagan Supply items for those looking for them.

As some of you know, we used to be "An Essence In Thyme" (Michelle: 1993-2000) and "SacredWares" (Michelle: 2000-2002), finally becoming "Silver Enchantments LLC" (combined family business) in late 2002. As "An Essence In Thyme" & "SacredWares" many eBayers knew Michelle as a purveyor of only the finest Soaps, Salts, Incense, Fragrance Oils, Ritual Blends, Essential Oils, Resins and Herbs -- and a Licensed Massage Therapist and Aromatherapy Consultant, Writer and Teacher in Buffalo, NY and Tucson, AZ.

We're now bringing these items back to our customers by popular request... minus the Soap and incense for now -- We just don't have time to make them anymore!!

Kansas City Renaissance Festival - We Got a Booth!

Quick update. While I was in St. Louis we made arrangements to purchase our Booth at the Kansas City Renaissance Festival.
The booth was formerly owned by ASL Foundry, who've moved on to casting Pewter for the Smithsonian!!
We'll be participating in the KC Renaissance Festival permanently every year.

Our Booth is #409. (not #904 as I put in the pic! LOL!)

Greater St. Louis Renaissance Festival

What a blast I had! Besides having a great time a the Festival... I ALWAYS have fun at Renn Fests! -- It was fantastic to see my parents (business partners) after they've been on the road for the past 3 months & also to see my grandparents.

We'll be back again next year more-than-likely toward the entrance & will probably be building a permanents structure in 2005.
