The White Pickup Truck.!

Often as I drive from Sacred Rocks Reserve and RV Park I see a white pickup truck. Imagine driving the 3-1/2 to downtown Boulevard, the 4 miles to Live Oak Springs Market, the occasional 5 and 7 mile jaunts to nearby casinos, and driving on curvy roads, with the sun shining brightly and trying to see who is driving so I can wave if I know them.

I ask myself, as the trucks flash by, is that Mark, or Tara, or Fred, or Jim and by the time I can think whose white truck it might be, we have sped past each other. In the past I have just missed waving, but now I think that I ought to wave. So in the future I have decided to wave at EVERY white truck!

But wait, although 9 out of 10 trucks at our RV Park are white, there are red ones and gray ones and green ones, so to not offend anyone, I shall wave at those also.

But also we do have some cars of various colors, so to include everyone, I shall wave at them too.

So if you see a white Lexus riding around the mountains with a woman waving like crazy, that would be me. So please wave back!

My biggest fear is that I'll get into the habit and continue it on my drive to and from San Diego, and show the whole world my craziness!!!

Perseid Meteor Star Party A Success!

Many gathered at the Stargazing Plateau on Saturday night. Blankets - it was nippy! - and lounge chairs and drinks were the norm. Mr. Steve Case brought his very huge telescope to check out the closed nebulas and stars and moons, while waiting for the meteors to streak by. Quiet fun while being under the amazing blanket of the Milky Way!

Tarantula Secrets for Living!

Last Sunday I was giving our guest, Tori, a brief hiking tour after we spent time in the labyrinth. She saw something moving, and we both stopped to see a four inch tarantula make it's way across our road. While I don't like the thought of a huge spider crawling ON ME, it was very interesting to watch. [and me without my camera!] It was very dark brown. The vibrations of our steps did not seem to bother it. We hovered a bit close, interupting light from the sun, and it kept on traveling. It seemed to look neither right nor left, never deviating from the path it had planned. Every other leg moved exactly at the same time to propel it forward. The legs that weren't moving it forward were stablizing balance. What an economy of motion. In less than a minute it traveled about 12 feet from one side of the road to another. Goal accomplished!

Made me think of life in general. And what could happen if all of our parts focused on one specific objective? What could be possible if our mind, body, spirit, emotions, finances, and career all aimed at one goal? ANYTHING!

New Name - Sacred Rocks

Some of you may be wondering about this name change development that you see in the newsletter and in more and more places. The primary reason is that our entire 163 acres are so much more than the rv park we want to show the bigger picture to everyone. We are adding to what we currently offer. You might think this has something to do with religion, but it does not! The name evokes more of the Native American respect for the land and nature that we all can appreciate, yet, it is not focused on any specific culture or customs.
Sacred Rocks Reserve is the name for the whole land - primarily to focus visitors on the nature aspect as a place to go for recreation.
Sacred Rocks RV Park is Outdoor World RV Park and will continue operating in the same way.
Sacred Rocks Mountain Homes is the area up around the circle that are personally designed getaways. Affordable, nature retreat sites are available for long-term leases. RV Park Model homes are for sale, although one can purchase from anywhere and place them here.
Sacred Rocks Retreat is the ability to use the land either on a daily basis or longer for purposes of retreat, or learning, or teaching groups in a nature setting, away from noise and chaos of the city.
Sacred Rocks Events offers the back acreage to large groups - up to 2000 for big events like re-enactments and festivals.

Junior Ambassadors earn $25 cash!

We were wondering if you know any junior campers [18 and under] who might want to join this Club. An Ambassador is someone who keeps their ears and eyes open, and, when possible refers a new camper to Sacred Rocks RV Park [formerly Outdoor World RV Park.] For every new camper, the Junior Ambassador will earn $25 in cash! We already have the Ambassadors program where you can earn points for gift cards to your favorite stores. We thought that the younger ones might like to earn some cash!

What do you think about people who prey on others like this? Myself, I am appalled at the levels people can sink in involving others with their evil. The bad thing is is that they are so hard to catch. Do you have any ideas about this?

I just found out today an awesome new technique that my cleaning lady told me about concerning ants. Take your coffee grounds and spread them around the perimeter of your rig. I want to hear about your experience. Does it work?

Got Food?

Better Than Your Mama's Kitchen has been delighting us with the wonderful food offered by Dana and Jose Romo. The meats are tender and grilled at the moment. Mexican food and American food is served. The price cannot be beat! From $1.50-9.00 for grilled tacos to full plate dinners. You can even call ahead and your food will be ready when you arrive!

Blacktop, guidron, asphalt, tar, and other stuff

Early morning April 9th, 2008 a crew of hard working guys showed up with 400 tons of the black stuff. By noon the the ENTRY, some of the main road, heading on down into the park to the right up to Stamatia's apple tree and the curve beyond, and toward the left in front of the pool. See for youself! But after it was all complete, do you know what those sames guys did? They dumped a bunch of sand on it, saying it will keep a long time if we continue that way. Imagine, all that work [and $] and we have to throw dirt on it!

Woke up Sunday morning to a new snow, about 4-5 inches. Nice quiet walk in the snow. Branches heavy with snow. Wondering if some would fall under the weight of it. About 36 degrees. Quiet. Beautiful.

Snow Update

Anyway, thanks to some 65 degree days, the snow is pretty much gone. Maybe next time. It is really fun to be parked already when the snow comes, enjoy the show, play and come into the warm homeplace, and then drive back home on dry roads.

I would like to know what your ideal snow vacation is. Comments?

Well, it is snowing up in Boulevard today. Maybe quite a storm! We welcome any adventurous campers who find their way today. Fun to play in the snow and come inside to get snuggly warm! Don't you think that tomorrow would be a fun day to run away? What would happen if you DID play hooky?

Deluxe Bunkhouse!

Deluxe Bunkhouse available starting February 1st. This not-so-ordinary bunkhouse sleeps 14, just bring your sleeping bags. Tables on the deck, outside BBQ/kitchen. Restrooms with hot showers are close by. Because it is built a bit high, the view from the deck is refreshing. Lots of shady trees surround it and it is away from the RV areas making it a wonderful place for retreat.

Fresh Air

The air at Outdoor World RV Park is still fresh and clean and pure, away from all the smoke of the recent and ongoing fires. I look forward to driving up this Friday for my usual weekend in the mountains. How often do you think 'I can't wait to leave San Diego'? Should be a good weekend for a hike to the backcountry. Warm days, a campfire at night, snuggle under the quilts to sleep.

Wildfire Musings

We are all praying for the wind to die and for rain. It is a terrible and scary thing when your world is out-of-control. Our eleven year old has been worried since the fires started. "what would we do if ...." is the common question. And 'can WE die of smoke' [being in the middle of San Diego]. So what we decided is to make a plan. If X happens, then we will do this. If Y happens, then we will do that. Tell me, what plans you have made and if you shared them with your children.

All the while, Dimitri is up at the park keeping things together in the high winds. But what can one do against the winds, sometimes clocking 80mph. The park shows signs of the high winds with a huge tree uprooting between the space 7 & 8 but missing any vital thing. The west fence blew over close to the pool as it was not cemented in and and only intended to be temporary. Of course many branches and leaves have been strewn over the park. We are not complaining! Oh, no! We feel blessed that the fires have not started East of us. Dimitri put the generator for the store but the balance of the park has no electricity. If it is like four years ago, we will be without electricity for several days. Judging from the news reports a lot of the major lines and relay stations have burned. Tell me, what would you do if you had no electricity [or TV, no computer, no telephones for several days?

I would be interested in your opinions. Tell me.......

Fires seem to be all West of Boulevard area and the wind is blowing West. There is no electricity at the Park and no phone service. We have been in touch with Sheriff Judy and other than high winds at the park and no electricity, all is well. If you are concerned about your rigs you may call us on our cell-phones and we will tell you our current information. Dimitri is 619-992-1569 and Sharon is 619-818-8575. There is a high wind warning from Alpine to Imperial County line right now so travel is not advised for high profile vehicles.
