Back in January of this year, I wrote an article about how you can layer your clothes to keep warm and get good use out of your spring/summer clothes during the winter. Now that it's fall and will soon be winter once again, layering is back in style. So it's no surprise to see vests, cardigans, and shrugs everywhere. What other outer layer can you expect to see a lot of this fall? Blazers! While a blazer was once considered a conservative article of clothing that was really only worn as part of a suit in business settings, this is no longer the case. All you need to do is style a blazer with a pair of jeans and some bold accessories. With this, it instantly becomes a great casual piece for everyday wear. For wearing a blazer to a job interview, pair it with a solid colored button-down shirt, some tailored pants, and pumps. To take a blazer from the office during the day to a night out (be it for a date or club/bar hopping with the girls) that you don't have time to change for in between, wear your blazer with a camisole, a bandage pencil skirt, and a pair of pumps. Also, carry an oversized braided strap handbag with you. Make sure to put a bib necklace, some bangle bracelets, a pair of hoop earrings, and a flower hair clip inside your bag. When you're through with work and ready to go out for the night, remove your blazer and put on all of the fun accessories you packed. You may also try this going from work to play look with a classic little black dress (just make sure the dress you pick out is appropriate for work). To get a menswear-inspired look, pair your blazer with a white button-down shirt, some tailored pants, a fedora hat, oxford shoes, and a necktie. For a Thanksgiving feast with the family, wear a blazer with a 2fer tank dress, a pair of argyle tights, ballet flats, and a feather hairclip. If you want to wear a blazer to school or to dress it down for other types of casual settings, wear it with some skinny jeans, a rock & roll graphic t-shirt, a pair of slouch boots, chandelier earrings, a plaid scarf, and a beret. Around this time last year, I wrote an article about cardigan sweaters. Like cardigans, shrugs are also perfect for layering over almost anything and would look great at the dinner table on Thanksgiving. If you're wondering what a shrug is, it's a type of sweater or jacket that's short, snug, and open in the front. They look best layered over tank tops, camisoles, tube tops, and strapless or sleeveless dresses. Perhaps shrugs can be compared to the cropped cardigan, except that shrugs don't button like cardigans usually do. Take a look at the cute little shrugs I found below to get some ideas.

My last article was about denim leggings. With jeggings, skinny jeans, and colored denim all being hot trends, denim is everywhere right now. Maybe that's why I've recently discovered a new twist on denim: Faux denim. Like jeggings, these are articles of clothing that look like real denim but have a different feel to them. While the concept of wearing fake denim may seem completely bizarre, I actually found some synthetic denim items that I thought were cute. If you want to try out the faux denim trend, I would advise that you don't pair any fake denim with real denim; It could be too overwhelming. Try wearing some faux denim leggings with a tunic and a pair of slouch boots. To wear faux denim pants, grab a color block top, some cowboy boots, a bib necklace, and a cuff bracelet. Wear a fake denim blazer with a bandage pencil skirt, a white button-down blouse, and a pair of pumps. Pair a synthetic denim vest with a gingham print top, some corduroy pants, and sneakers. To rock a faux denim mini skirt, pair it with some ripped leggings, a rock & roll graphic t-shirt, some hoop earrings, and ballet flats. For a synthetic denim pencil skirt, wear it with an off-the-shoulder top, a pair of neon tights, and some high-heeled oxfords. Wear a fake denim dress with a pair of latex leggings, cutout shoes, and a cardigan. For lounging around at an indoor pool, throw a shirt dress on over your faux denim swimsuit and also add a pair of flip flops. Skinny Jeans + Leggings = Jeggings

Whether you follow the latest fashion trends or not, one thing is clear to anyone who can see: leggings are H.O.T! As a matter of fact, they have been at the very top of every must-have fashion list for the past few years. A pair of solid knit leggings is now considered a basic wardrobe staple. Quite the change from the beginning of this decade, when leggings were spotted few and far between. So does this mean that leggings are here to stay permanently? Possibly. Only time will tell. But right now, they're definitely not going away anytime soon. Another trend that has been popular for the past few years (even though it hasn't blown up to the extent that leggings have) is the skinny jean. Skinny jeans have been on the must-have lists for a while too (I also believe that this is the best thing that's happened to jeans for us shorter girls). Skinny jeans and leggings have a lot in common. They're both super comfortable, both extremely flattering on us vertically challenged ladies, and both look great when paired with tunic tops, shirt dresses, mini dresses, and oversized tees/sweatshirts. They're also both nice for tucking into slouch or over-the-knee boots. So what's the perfect combination of both fabulous trends? Denim leggings (also known as jeggings)! Jeggings are basically the love child of both trends. They look like your typical pair of skinny jeans but feel more like leggings once you put them on. The Itsy Bitsy Spider

You've probably noticed that I've been putting several ideas for Halloween costumes out there lately. I've compiled a list of trendy costumes for this year and have also come up with ways to incorporate items you may already own (such as cowboy boots and military jackets) into your costume as well (you can also try typing "Halloween" or "costume" into my blog's search engine to see some more DIY costume ideas that I've been suggesting since last Halloween). All of these costume ideas are perfect for Halloween parties and Trick or Treating. But don't worry, I haven't forgotten about those of you who have plans for Halloween that don't involve costumes. Whether your plans for Halloween involve a sleepover with the girls, a night of horror movies, or handing out candy to Trick or Treaters, you can still get into the spirit of Halloween with you wardrobe. A Military Kind Of Love

When I used to go Trick or Treating as a kid, I remember how I would always be bummed out whenever I had to wear a jacket with my costume (and in New York, it usually is too cold to Trick or Treat outside without a jacket). I would complain about how the jacket clashed with and ruined my entire costume. But what if you can find a jacket that is so stylish it makes you not even worry about your costume? Or better yet, what if you can actually make your jacket part of your costume? While motorcycle jackets are one option for this, Military jackets (also known as marching band jackets or band jackets) are also very in right now. It is also a great way to pay homage to the late Michael Jackson (RIP). If you're dressing up as a military soldier for Halloween, wear a military jacket with a pair of military pants, some military boots (also known as combat boots), and a military cap. You may also wear a camoflauge pattern if desired. If you're going as a member of a marching band, pair a marching band jacket with some dress pants, a white button down shirt, a pair of sneakers, and a sash. You can also carry a musical instrument (like a flute or french horn) as a prop. To go as a Majorette, wear your band jacket with a pleated skirt and a pair of go-go boots. You can carry a baton as a prop. If you want to go as a horseback rider, wear your jacket with a pair of riding boots, some riding pants, a button down shirt, and a riding helmet. For a Michael Jackson inspired costume, pair your jacket with some paracute pants, fingerless gloves, a fedora hat , and a pair of studded boots . If you want to wear your military jacket on a regular day that isn't Halloween, wear it with some ripped skinny jeans, a pair of over-the-knee boots, and a printed tunic top. If you've been following My Little Fashion Finds since at least February of this year, you might remember my post about slouch boots. Slouch boots were part of the Western-inspired trend that was big during the spring and summer. Shirting The Issue

With plaid and ripped denim being big trends right now, it's clear that the 1990's grunge look is back in a big way. What else would fit in with the grunge trend? How about shirt dresses? A shirt dress is a button-down dress that will often have a collar, cuffed sleeves, and/or pockets as well. A lot of the styles of shirt dresses I've seen have a plaid or vertical stripe pattern. The more girly styles may have a polka dot print or other feminine details like ruffles. I've also found some shirt dresses with more modified details such cinching at the waist (to help define the waistline). I even managed to dig up some sleeveless shirt dresses that you can layer or wear on a warmer day. I like this trend because it is the perfect mix of femininity and menswear-inspired details. To get a grunge-inspired look, wear one of the plaid shirt dresses with either a pair of ripped jeans or cutout leggings and some sneakers. You can also pair a plaid shirt dress with some distressed jeans, cowboy boots, a braided belt, and a cowboy hat for a westen-inspied look. For a menswear-inspired look, pair one of the vertical striped shirt dresses with some tailored pants, oxford shoes, a necktie, and a fedora hat. Provide contrast with a dotted shirt dress by pairing it with some argyle tights. You can also get this contrast with a gingham shirt dress and a pair of floral print tights. For the office, wear a long or short-sleeved solid colored shirt dress with some tailored pants and stiletto shoes. For a vintage vibe, wear a ruffled or frilly shirt dress with a pair of lace tights, a bow headband, a pearl bracelet, and some ballet flats. When it gets really cold, you can layer one of the sleeveless shirt dresses over a sweater like you would with a jumper. Pair the sweater and sleeveless shirt dress with some thick tights and slouch boots. If you plan on lounging around at an indoor pool this fall, any of these shirt dresses can be used as a stylish swimsuit cover-up. For a fun fall style, wear any shirt dress with a pair of denim legggings or skinny jeans and some peep-toe booties. To look like you just rolled out of bed and threw on your boyfriend's (or fiance's or husband's) clothes, wear a plaid, vertical striped, or solid shirt dress (without any girly details) with a pair of boyfriend jeans and sneakers. You can also style your hair in a loose ponytail or messy bun to follow suit. If you get a shirt dress that isn't already cinched at the waist, you may wish to add a belt to it. I recently wrote an article about 2-fer tank dresses. Many of the dresses I featured were in colorblock and two tone patterns. A two tone pattern is when there are two different colors (eg: black and white) combined on to one garment. A colorblock pattern is usually a mix of more than two colors. As you can see from this and other recent posts, contrast is what's in style right now. You will definitely see people doing a lot more mixing than matching when it comes to styling their outfits this season. You can join in on this fun trend too. Try pairing a two-tone or colorblock piece with another color that is not in the item you're wearing. You can also wear two-tone or colorblock patterns with fun prints such as plaid, polka dots, stripes, houndstooth, tribal prints, and animal prints. You can even pair these colors with floral and butterfly prints. Sure, spring may be long gone by now, but that doesn't mean the spirit of spring can't still remain in your heart and style. Statement jewelry was a big trend for the summer of 2009 and it won't be going anywhere for the fall. Bib necklaces and bangles will still be very much in style this autumn. In addition to bangle bracelets, another fun piece of jewelry to sport on your wrist is the cuff bracelet. If you're wondering what a cuff bracelet is, it's a thick, stiff bracelet that usually has an opening in the back. For a cute look during the spring/summer, wear one of the flower or floral print cuff bracelets with a tank top, a bleached denim skirt, and gladiator shoes. For a fun summer look, pair a braided cuff with a screen tee, some shredded denim shorts, and flip flops. For the fall, wear a leaf print cuff with a 2fer tank dress, a short-sleeved cardigan sweater or shrug, denim leggings, and a pair of peep-toe booties. A circle cuff would look cute with a Rock & Roll graphic t-shirt, bleached jeans, a pair of hoop earrings, and neon sneakers. For channeling Cleopatra, wear a gold cuff with a one-shoulder dress, gold hoop earrings, a gold bib necklace, a bejeweled headband and a pair of gladiator sandals (this would be a great Halloween costume). To look like a Greek goddess, pair a gold cuff with a braided strap dress, some gladiator sandals, a flower headband, and gold chandelier earrings (another idea for a Halloween costume). To wear boot sandals on a warm day, pair them with a braided strap dress, bangles, and a flower headband. When it starts to cool down wear them with a destroyed denim skirt, a cardigan sweater, and a pair of leggings. To wear peep toe booties or boots during the warm weather, pair them with a bandage dress, a bib necklace, and hoop earrings. On a cooler day, wear your boots/booties with a pair of skinny jeans, an off-the-shoulder top, a pearl necklace, and chandelier earrings. Pair cutout shoes would look cute with a 2fer tank dress, a cuff bracelet, and a bow necklace during the warm weather. When it gets cold, wear cutout shoes with some denim leggings and a shirtdress. Transitional Tank Dresses

With school starting up, fall is definitely not far away. However, it's just as warm now as it was during the summer. What's the perfect article of clothing to make the transition from summer to fall with? The 2fer tank dress! If you've been following my blog since at least January of this year, you may remember the article I wrote about 2fers during the winter. Even though it's warmed up since then, 2fers have remained popular throughout the spring and summer. Most notably, the 2fer tank dress. You have probably seen these dresses all over clothing stores everywhere. If you're not sure what I'm talking about, a 2fer dress is when the top and the skirt are sewn together but look like they can be separate pieces. A 2fer tank dress is always sleeveless and the top will be a different color or pattern from the skirt of the dress (many of them are in colorblock or two-tone styles as well). Sometimes, there will be a belt in between the top and the skirt. I personally think these dresses are really cool and they are showing no signs of going anywhere for the fall. So, how exactly are these dresses perfect for making the transtion between the warmer and cooler season, you might be wondering? It's all in how you style it. On a warm day wear a 2fer tank dress with a bib necklace, bangle bracelets, and a pair of gladiator sandals. When the weather cools down, wear this dress with a cropped cardigan sweater, a pair of leggings or tights, and some slouch boots. The latter tip is also good to follow if you're school has a dress code that does not allow sleeveless dresses (the cardigan will solve that problem) or short skirts (if you want to wear one of the shorter dresses to school, wearing tights or leggings underneath should make it ok; you might want to check with your school first just to be sure though). Speaking of school, for those of you who haven't gone back yet, a 2fer tank dress would be perfect to wear as part of your back to school outfit for the first day. You will definitely earn straight A's in fashion. If you want to create this look on your own, grab a solid colored tank top and a high-waisted skirt in a contrasting color or pattern; then tuck the tank top into the skirt. It will look just like one of the gorgeous dresses above.
