Tenpin Bowling

There was plenty of bragging before last week's staff get-together at tenpin bowls. Graham had promised to clean everyone up, Lia told us the dust would still be in our lanes at the end of the night and Kate said she was bring a mystery guest.

It was a great night with a few beers and plenty of food. Jack S. ended up the champion of the night but he took a while to get going. Kate's surprise guest was Teagan (used to work with us). Lia and Teagan even resorted to using the ramp to try and keep the ball in the lanes.

Good fun, and highly recommended for something different on a social night.

Reebok backs Adelaide Crows

Reebok has announced a 3 year partnership with the Adelaide Football Club commencing 1st November 2009 through to the end of season 2012. This partnership gives Reebok the exclusive rights as their onfield & licensed apparel supplier.

In addition, Reebok has extended its current contract as the exclusive onfield & licensed apparel supplier with the Port Adelaide Football Club through to the end of the 2012 season.

Novita River Run

Just spent a fantastic week on the Novita River Run. Great company and fun, plus all for a great cause, the kids. We travelled down from Renmark to Mannum, spending a night each at Renmark, Loxton, Waikerie, Morgan and Swan Reach before ending up at Mannum. The river looked good until just after Blanchetown when it got quite shallow and we bogged a few boats. It was a lot of fun!

Planning next weekend

So, what's happening next weekend, where are we playing, when? How on earth can we plan Father's Day when the footy is on one minute and off the next. The Crows grabbed fourth spot, then didn't. Come on guys, I need to know if there's a home final next weekend and I need to know what's on TV.

Then I can plan the rest of the weekend!

Olympics - only another 4 years!

So what's your verdict? Was it a success? There were some great highlights and you'd be pushing to find too much to complain about. We did pretty good in the medals, some new athletes became household names. I watched the closing ceremony and the athletes certainly looked like they were having a great time!

China did a good job didn't they, and wasn't the London preview a contrast with "Whole Lotta Love"! I bet it'll get mixed reviews, but life would be boring if we all thought the same.

Well done to China.

Bulldogs v Brisbane - they say the Bulldogs will win but Brisbane are playing good footy.

Freo v Kangas - is this the breakthrough for Freo or no - if it was Telstra I'd go Freo but its subiaco - but the Kangas are a better team - aaarrgghhh!

Collingwood v Carlton - mmmmm?

Richmond v Melbourne - Richmond favourites but I might put a few bob on Melbourne.

As I said, maybe the bookies have it wrong this week - it's your call.

Chris Judd should be a stand-out at Carlton shouldn't he? Will they win enough games for him to take the Brownlow. Tough to win in a losing side. But I reckon they will and he's my favourite. If that's true then Brendan Fevola will have to be one the end of some great leads, and should take out the Coleman.

Central Sports Footy Tipping

NAB Grand Final 2008

$30 a ticket is a bit rich. I know it's a grand final but both coaches are talking it down. I reckon $15-$20 would be great, especially if it would encourage a bunch of friends to go. At this price they'd get close to a full house and the extra money spent on car parking, food and beer would more than make up for it.

I'm a Crows fan and Lia is St Kilda so it's a family showdown too. Maybe we need to have a bet with the loser wearing opposition colours next week. Keep an eye out in the store next week to see what Lia is wearing - then you'll know the Crows won! Go Crows!

Hills Hackers Jan 2008

It was a great day last Sunday (6/1/08) as the Hills Hackers tore up Oakbank Golf Course. A fine turnout with some rare appearances from Richard, Tony & Ian, along with a couple of sharks. Random groups balanced out the field, eskis were in position and it was game on.

Plenty of golfers were thankful for the Ambrose format otherwise some of them would still be out there. The out-of-bounds grapevines got a hammersing, as did the the eski on the 4th tee. Nearest the pin was setup early with by Dave J. Quite a few others didn't hit the green all day. The longest drive started out with a huge hit by John H. It was beaten by an outsider playing the course, then "Legend in the Making' Squiz took it out, smack in the middle of the fairway, a monster drive.

Playing left-handed at the 8th par 3 was a bit of fun, in fact it was one of the better shots of the day for Tony S. Ian H made us chuckle when his clun went further than the ball - no he didn't throw it, he was playing a shot!

Final honours went to Robbo, Dave J, Jack and Scott with a even par 68. Best putt went to Jamie F, and worst shot of the day was a close tie between Ian, Tony, Robbo, Dave F, Richard, Claude, Steve J & Patrick.

In a surprise result, tennis (62 per cent) pipped swimming (61 per cent), with Aussie Rules third (57 per cent), in a survey of Aussies' favourite sports.

The Sweeney Sports Report, the nation's most authoritative sports and sponsorship survey, ranked cricket fourth (51 per cent), while soccer slumped to 49 per cent as last year's World Cup euphoria continued to fade.

Sweeney Sports general manager Todd Deacon admitted he was shocked tennis was the sport of choice.

"There could be a number of reasons for it, from the (Roger) Federer-(Rafael) Nadal phenomenon to the fact Lleyton Hewitt and Bec Cartwright are on every magazine cover," Mr Deacon said.

"It's also one of the few sports in the top 10 which is actually more popular with females than males."

Golf (30 per cent) ranked ninth, perhaps an accurate reflection given the final day of the Australian Open on Sunday was bowled over by a washed-out game of cricket.

The Australia-New Zealand one-day match, which lasted just six overs at the SCG, rated higher than the golf for a staggering three hours.

As the rain tumbled down, the Australian Open reached its pulsating finish with Craig Parry pipping Nick O'Hern and Brand Snedeker to win the championship.

The Sweeney survey calculates interest by combining data about how many Australians in capital cities participate in, attend, watch on television, listen to radio, read print media reports and use the internet for information about each sport.

TV viewing of tennis became the highest for any sport, with almost six of every 10 people tuning in.

In other results, Melbourne clearly reigns as Australia's sporting capital, hosting the country's three most important sporting events.

The AFL Grand Final stretched its lead slightly as the sporting event considered by Australians to be the most important.

It now leads the Melbourne Cup by eight percentage points (27 to 19 per cent), with the Australian Open tennis championships third on 11 per cent.

The latest edition of the Sweeney Sports Report covered 22 major sports played or covered by the media from April to September.

Interviewing was completed just before the AFL and NRL grand finals.

Computer-assisted telephone interviews were conducted with 1000 Australians in the six state capital cities and Canberra.

In analysis, the results were weighted by age and sex within each city so the overall findings were fully representative of the populations.

Hillbillies Grand Finalists

Yep, the Echunga Hillbillies made to the Grand Final in Tuesday night tennis but couldn't quite overcome the LittleHampton team. Played in great conditions the Littlehampton team bought out all guns for a great match. There were some good rallies and plenty of deuce games, but Littlehampton gradually wore us down to take out the Grand Final - well done!

Congrats to our team too, reaching the grand final in our first season. Old man Robbo, Shell, Blaster Stevo, and Sandy the Lip (meant in the nicest possible way Sandy :) look forward to playing with you again) gave it their best shot.

That was really disappointing. I'm not a Power fan but even that was too bad to make jokes about. Enough said.

What about the Roosters? Can Jars take overcome the Doggies? Haven't Centrals done a great job in the last 10 years. I grew up with Sturt v Port battles and remember packed house Grand Finals at Adelaide Oval - way, way before the Crows and Power. Can you believe we used to sleep outside the oval gates on the Friday night to get a ticket. There was always quite a crowd staying overnight. Adelaide Oval should be the home of SANFL - bring the crowds back.

OK, will the Crows make the finals? I was at the Bulldogs game and although it was a solid win it wasn't finals football. I really think the Crows can beat the Lions and Magpies, but how much do they want it. Come on guys, if you get in the finals anything can happen.
