Nino Cerruti - Italian Fashion

Hailed as the founding father of the Italian fashion, Nino Cerruti first saw his interest and passion with designing products and accessories for the fashion market when he was still in his 20s. He was born in Biella, Italy and at that young age, he took control of the textile mills owned by his family.

He transformed the business into something more promising by simply focusing on tailoring design applied to the finest of their fabrics. Textile manufacturing is still handled though, but his sensibility is now applied for fashion.

Nino Cerruti first came out as a fashion designer when he created his first collection of men’s wear named the “Hitman”. This product has been considered through the fashion industry as a revolutionary line, but was later surpassed by one of its newest addition, the unisex clothing of 1967.

While designing his men’s wear collections, Cerruti decided to establish a boutique in Paris, allowing him to provide the public the latest in the fashion world. Few months after, new boutiques were opened in other areas in the world, and Nino Cerruti started handling designing lessons with only few of his dedicated talents. Giorgio Armani was one of them.

In 1993, Nino Cerruti showcased his menswear collections still in Paris without any of the dramas involved in the traditional menswear presentations. This principle is maintained in all of his projects, but what is really noted about all of his designs was the use of three-button single-breasted look, which is but natural to Giorgio Armani’s designs. Unlike the other fashion designers, the works of Cerruti all boast a highly textural fabric that appears very luxurious in all aspects.

In an attempt to expand his knowledge in fashion designing, Nino Cerruti began developing a wide selection of dandies. He designed costumes for movie actors, and aside from designing clothes for these people, he also used celebrities as his own models. He experimented on this venture for a number of years, and what later followed was the production of his advertising campaigns and promotions created for his own business.

Nino Cerruti is also known for his popular lines of fragrances. However, unlike his clothing products and accessories, the perfumes and colognes he markets are manufactured not by him, but by Coty, Inc. Nina Ricci - Delicate Perfumes

Founded in 1932, Nina Ricci has remained one of the most prestigious fashion houses in all of France. Madame Ricci established it along with her son, Robert, when they decided that setting up their own haute couture house was a lucrative business idea with many opportunities. Madame Ricci took the role of a fashion designer, while Robert was the one who handled the business, including the finances.

They started working with fabrics, creating their own lines of feminine designs. After a few months from inception, their business grew under the name Nina Ricci, already known to the fashion industry as one of the best producers of romantic and refined fashion pieces.

The success of Nina Ricci can be attributed much to Robert’s effort. In 1945, he came up with the idea of exhibiting the best dresses ever made. With the help of the President of the Chamber, Lucien Lelong, Robert was able to dress more than a hundred mannequins from forty prestigious couturiers in the whole of France.

Madame Gres and Balenciaga were even included in that exhibition held in Louvre, Paris. This fashion showcase is what allowed the designs of Nina Ricci to reach other areas of Europe and even the United States.

After a few years of success, Nina Ricci began offering a line of luxury perfumes for the affluent. Robert was the creator of these fragrances, and he created this new line of products just to cope with the company’s expansion.

The first perfume made by him was named Coeur Jolie, and this was followed by another, the L’Air du Temps. This latter fragrance is the one considered by most consumers as the most delicate. It even remains as Nina Ricci’s top seller until these days.

The Coeur Jolie, on its first release, was valued not just for the delicate scent it emits but also for the great packaging that Nina Ricci has made. The perfume was contained in a crystal bottle that is frosted. The bottle was crafted by Marc Lalique and it features illustrations made by Christian BZrard.

This fragrance is made of sweet smelling flowers, the one that sets Nina Ricci apart from the rest of France’s creative perfumery. The L’Air du Temps, which means “mood of the times”, became France’s most classic perfume product ever created.

In 1959, new designs emerged then bringing Nina Ricci to new heights. The house acquired an international honor mainly for the success of one of its new collections, the Jules-Francois Crahay. This line was consolidated a few years after by GZrard Pipart, who took the new management over the haute couture studio in the year 1964. That same year, the L’Air du Temps was distributed and marketed not just in the whole Paris, but also in the major markets in the United States and Japan.

The perfumes of Nina Ricci continued to develop even after the death of Madame Ricci in 1970. The company was then considered as the leading exporter of fragrances in France. The production was even increased with the establishment of Ury Perfume Production Center where the known Farouche perfume was formulated. The company made several other fragrances, and this production is expected to increase with more and more people and technologies now being used for better results.

Perhaps, all of us are familiar with the scene in a play wherein a husband would give his wife a piece of precious jewellery. Then she opens the box with much enthusiasm and excitement. The wife would then have a jaw drop as she looks into the box. She receives a black leather choker from her very loving husband with silver studs around, which looks like a dog collar. Such is just an example of a tragic-comedy story that we are often familiar with related to stories of necklaces. More stories could be related to necklaces like the emergence of its use among men. Along the years, men's accessories are not anymore confined to just neckties. Today, men are also capable of wearing necklaces as fashion accessories. You just have to be observant, and notice that many men today are fond of wearing necklaces as part of their get-up.

There are a lot of variations that we can see today. Men have beaded necklace, perhaps for the spiritually leaning man. There are chokers that we often see among men who are body builders in the gym. Likewise, there are chunky gold necklaces for men who are younger and bolder. For sophisticated men, meanwhile, we see them with the classic silver necklace that spell maturity and elegance. Whatever kind of necklace a man wears, it surely adds to the fashion get-up of a person. Also, the male race seems to get more pride out of these necklaces.

The progress and growth in the field of necklaces as fine jewellers has indeed satisfied men's interest toward jewellery. Jeweller companies like Tiffany's have actually expanded the traditional cufflink and watch collection to add a range of men's line of jewellers like pendants, necklaces, bracelets, and rings. In addition, the company has also managed to design some masculine jewellry styles in steel, titanium, and silver.

In recent years, it seems that necklace is an accessory that would complete a man's looks.

Also, we have observed more and more male television personalities who succumb to wearing necklaces which are seen as attractive by some of the viewers.

The traditional notion that necklaces are just for women is totally gone. Because today, gender is not an issue when it comes to accessories and ornaments. What is important is that the person who wears them carry it with great confidence and pride. Most of the times, accessories and jewelleries like necklace is an added accent for a person to appear more pleasing in the eyes of the public.

We may never know the future trends that might emerge in the industry of necklaces worn by men. But one thing is for sure, necklaces play a great role in improving the posture of men.

5. Each season Parisians flock to the stores and buy just one or two key items. This is not random shopping, it is carefully considered choices. Colours and styles are chosen to complement existing items.

6. Scarves are everywhere, worn in every permutation by young and old alike.

7. Beauty, hair and skin care is highly valued, with regular facials, tints etc. to present a groomed look. Many shops carry large ranges of small diffusion beauty brands at every price level.

8. High fashion trends are cheaper and mixed in with the investment buys and designed to last one season.

9. Underwear is a whole universe! Big department stores will have a whole floor given over to underwear. French women know they look good from the inside out. This is true grooming.

10. Perfume. It is the nation of Perfumers -look good smell good.

11. Knowing what truly suits them and buying it. This is probably the key secret. If you don’t know this, use a Personal Shopper or Image Consultant and learn. What you learn will pay dividends for the rest of your life.

Fashion Trends For Spring Summer 09

Although catwalks have already finished showing their Autumn Winter 09 collections it normally takes at least six months to a year for their collections to be redesigned to be commercially viable. After all who can afford thousands of pounds for the latest designer dresses.

Last years catwalk collections are just starting to filter into the high street now, although somewhat toned down from the extravagant (and very expensive) designs!

So here is a summary of the key fashion trends for this spring...

English Eccentric

Dresses and tops are updated with light colourful florals and ditzy prints.

Club Med

Last years nautical theme is revisited and stripes are still big news, although this time is the thinner stripes that are on trend. Look for navy and black stipes over a white background.

Body Con Dress

This seasons hottest dress is definitely the body con dress. Debate surrounds its true meaning, is it body conscious or body contoured? Both equally apply as its a style for those with a curvy 10 or 12 as the material is very figure hugging.

The Playsuit

Another 80's revival piece is the playsuit. Keep it printed and colourful for the day and choose a little black version for the evenings. Not got leg confidence? Then perhaps a jumpsuit will suit better with its full leg coverage.

Block Patterns

Straight from the catwalk is block design. Think dark lower half and bright top. This style is very handy at hiding larger hips or a big bum.

Chic Western

Last years checks get and fashion overhaul. Think detailed patterning on shirts over tight jeans.

Asymmetric Fashion

The one shoulder dress was paraded on the catwalks and its a fashion trend accessible to all. Although best suited to those with shoulders they want to show off.

The Mini Dress

Like the body con dress this is another style for those with slim figures. Dress lengths are going to be very short this summer.

The Bandeau Dress

Take an symmetric dress and remove the other shoulder and your there. Very soft and feminine, this trend is perfect for those long hot summer months.

Swimwear Trends

Essential swimwear for this season are cut out (or cut away) one piece swimsuits. The more daring you are the more cut away they should be. Asymmetric swimwear and bikinis also featured in a lot of swimwear collections.

Women's Armani Jeans - How to Identify Fake Armani Jeans From the Real Deal

To buy women's Armani jeans is to make a statement that you understand fashion at its finest. But what many consumers don't know when shopping for women's Armani jeans is that there are imposters on the market -- cheap impostors. These cheap makes are of inferior quality that wear out faster than the real article. Read on for some hints on identifying fake Armani jeans.

New Armani jeans will always come with a COA (certificate of authenticity). It will be attached to the jeans (usually) by a belt loop. The COA will be encased in blue plastic and attached with thick, firm blue string and a blue security piece. Fake garments can also have these items, but the string will likely be thin and lacking sturdiness.

The certificate will be watermarked with the words, "Giorgio Armani". To check the authenticity of this watermark, you must hold the certificate up to a light before these word will appear. Fake Armani jeans will simply have these words printed on the certificate making them visible to the naked eye under any light when viewed at any angle. This is a tell-tale sign that the jeans are not authentic.

Along the bottom of the certificate will be tiny particles of colored paper that compose the words, "Giorgio Armani". These paper particles were embedded into the certificate during the production process making it impossible to reproduce. These particles also create an embossed feel on the letters, similar to braille. Fake Armani jeans may be missing this or lacking the embossed feel of the letters.

The last thing to check for on the COA would be the words, "Fedrigoni Cartiere S.P.A" printed in a small, yet legible crisp font. The COA for fake jeans is usually printed with a low-end printer and therefore can't print as sharp or with as much clarity as what's capable on a high-end printing press indicating the presence of fake jeans.

With this information, you can protect yourself from buying fake Armani jeans.

David Beckham Does A Turn As Sportswear Designer

David Beckham has plenty of experience wearing casual sports clothing, and now he has designed some.

Beckham recently teamed up with James Bond, not the fictional secret agent, but the owner of Undefeated — a designer chain of sneaker boutiques — on a new collection for Adidas Originals.

According to a release from Adidas, Beckham and Bond "were inspired by the mix of classic American sportswear and fabrics with fashionable silhouettes and details."

The collection will be made out of materials including cashmere and silk.

Some of the items in the pair's range include a leather puffer jacket and a long sleeve thermal shirt. They have also designed shoes and accessories for men.

Beckham, however, is not expected to promote the brand through personal appearances, like he did when he signed on to be the body for Emporio Armani underwear, Women's Wear Daily reported.

The soccer hunk reportedly became involved in the design fold for the Adidas Originals line after someone at Adidas, who already endorses the star athlete, suggested he collaborate with Bond as Beckham is a regular in Undefeated's Los Angeles branch, according to WWD.

Michelle Obama's style continues to win plaudits - despite the occasional faux pas

When she stepped off Air Force One on Tuesday evening, her gold silk dress scything through the half light, women all over the world let out a collective gasp. The First Lady had done it again: she had wrapped up her most winning attributes - her intellect, lack of fear and love of fashion - in an outfit, a sassy, sexy, above-the-knee one at that. Better still, she and Mr Prez were holding hands - like they meant it. If power is sexy, a modern power-couple in love is even sexier.

If one thing is for sure, it is that Mrs O understands the subtleties of power and the power of a working wardrobe. She uses clothes like Gordon Brown uses her husband: to forge a special relationship with the rest of us. Love-bombing us with her image, her signals shoot like missiles: I am in control (I wear clothes I feel comfortable in, not clothes that others might deem appropriate) , I am part of the solution, not the problem, and share the G20's commitment to an end to unfettered capitalism (I don't throw money at designer clothes, I wear pieces more than once); and I am not afraid of change, nor of doing things differently.

At the White House inauguration in January she sported, wait for it, bare arms. Such was the outcry, you would think she was a Victorian turning up to a salon sporting decolletage. No matter that she wore an elegant black shift dress by Michael Kors and signature double pearls, it was the flesh that did it for her. It just was not done, even in America.

So what did Michelle wear on Tuesday night at the Downing Street reception? A crepe silk, black and ivory 'tuxedo-tank' dress with cute bow belt by Isabel Toledo, the same one that she had worn beneath a classic calf-length satin opera coat by Jason Wu on arriving at Buckingham Palace to meet the Queen. For the evening do, she shed the demure cardigan by the exquisite Parisian designer Azzedine Alaia, revealing those infamous arms once again. There's another message for us: when it comes to my wardrobe, I act unilaterally, so please don't even think about telling me what to wear.

She was at it again yesterday when she visited the capital's Maggie's Centre, the charity of which Sarah Brown is a patron and which provides a homely retreat for cancer sufferers and their families. She wore - well, there isn't a woman in the land who can't roll off the outfit by now, but I'll run through it anyway - a mint greenshantung silk skirt, sparkly 'Constellation' cardigan (£207 and sold out) and vest top (all by high-street chain J Crew), with pearls, a natty, on-trend mish-mash of bracelets, non-matching, snake-print courts and, get this, bare legs.

She looked as though she was off to a jaunty al fresco lunch party with girlfriends. Sarah Brown, in a ruffle-fronted navy dress by hedge funder turned designer Britt Lintner with gun-metal grey opaque tights and patent heels, both also on trend, looked overly cautious in comparison.

And who can blame her? While it seems unwise to seek sartorial advice from someone who used to work in the City, an environment hardly known for cherishing femininity, Sarah Brown has hardly got a tradition of stylish women in high office or public service to call upon. We do not have our own Jackie O, though Princess Diana did much to challenge expectations of how the wife of the heir to the throne should dress. In the political arena, Margaret Thatcher has been called a lot of things in her time; style icon is not one of them. The same goes for Cherie Blair. As for Harriet, Jacqui, Anne Widdecombe et al, let's not even go there.

The latter are still enthralled to the dreaded power suit, a no-no for the rest of us, including Michelle. "She has completely moved away from tailoring and the idea of a political woman in a power suit," explains Telegraph style columnist Sarah Mower. "She understands soft-dressing. Hillary Clinton, by contrast, felt she had to dress in her pant suit. Michelle embodies a massive generational shift."

Rules, it seems, are there to be re-drawn, hence the bare arm informality. But, as Mower points out, Michelle understands the importance of decorum: "It was utterly ridiculous that she should be criticised for having bare arms at the White House inauguration, but appropriate that she downplayed her informal look in the presence of the Queen."

Michelle has been praised for her canny support of small American designers. Sarah Mower is impatient for Sarah Brown to do the same. She would thereby not only give a much-needed boost to the British fashion industry, but would also add a measure of Michelle's enviable playfulness into her own wardrobe at the same time.

"I just wish for British fashion that she would see it as her patriotic duty to promote young British designers. She wears Lintner, to which the response is: Lintner who?"

Mower reels off a list of homegrown alternatives to American-born, London-based Lintner which Sarah Brown would not only look good in, but feel good in, too. "Stella McCartney does great pieces for the modern working woman. She would look smart and assured in soft tailoring by Roland Mouret or the structure with softness and colour of Richard Nichol." Aware that Sarah Brown does not want to be seen to be overspending, Mower suggests mixing and matching with high street pieces from Marks & Spencer, Reiss and the Boden catalogue, just as Michelle wears Gap, Banana Republic, H & M and of course the largely mail order J. Crew.

Michelle has her own stylist, of scourse, Ikram Goldman, whose namesake Chicago boutique Michelle has long patronised. "She puts clothes together for her from her store," explains Mower, "and also does searches from J Crew for Michelle and the kids. she is not paid and she is fearfully discreet. She will never be quoted."

Wouldn't it be great if Sarah Brown had the same? Absolutely, says Mower. "We have talented retailers who could advise her very discreetly; there are ways of seeking advice without behaving like a WAG with a celebrity stylist."

The point about Michelle, according to insiders, is that she has always loved fashion. She enjoyed "being pretty," she told Barbara Walters in her debut appeareance on American chat show 'The View' last year . The women of America gave her the thumbs up. Then, in American Vogue, she said: "I love clothes. First and foremost, I wear what I love. That's what women have to focus on: what makes them happy and what makes them feel comfortable and beautiful. If I can have any impact, I want women to feel good about themselves and have fun with fashion."

Far from hiding from the cameras, she courts it. She did it on Wednesday, on the way to the Maggie's Centre, looking up and into the photographers' lenses, flashing her all-American, happy-to-be here smile, while Sarah Brown kept her eyes straight ahead, her lips clamped shut.

Yesterday the G20 spouses went to the Royal Opera House. Sarah Brown looked chic in a well-judged blue dress by one of her favourite designers, Scotland's Graeme Black, and a thoroughly modern - and low key - necklace by Pippa Small. Michelle wore a teal frock with full skirt by Jason Wu, an asymmetrical Junya Watanabe cardigan in turquoise, pearls and the same bottle green Jimmy Choo 'Glacier' pumps she wore for the Inauguration.

These time the sisterhood gasped once more: the teal and turquoise clashed. Michelle held her arm across the assymetric cardie as if she were trying to hold it together, or had had second thoughts about the design and was trying to hide it.

Our very modern First Lady is a fallible fashionista. She makes mistakes, just like the rest of us. And that makes us love her all the more. Roll on Strasbourg, Prague and Ankara and the next leg of the Mrs O fashion parade.

THE MOST OVERT ONES

Sling Bikini: Also known as "slingshot", it is, more or less, only a bottom bikini. It is attached to strings or straps which go upwards to join near the neck. In the process, they cover the breasts. Definitely, it is clear that the straps don't hang around the waistline.

Microkini: This variation, regarded by many as next to nudity, uses a piece of cloth that is capable to cover genitals only. It is attached to an elongated strip that is suspended around the waistline.

THE EXTREMES

Pubkini: It is the extreme form of microkini. Mostly used by adult cinema actresses and dancers. It has the least use of fabric.

Monokini: A bikini without its top is called monokini. It is used mostly while sunbathing. But darers try it often in swimming pools.
