Update on Nell!

Nellie is doing just great. She has a waistline again. She is getting lots of sheep work keeping the lambs in order and moving little calves around at feeding time. She's able to run pretty fast now.

Nell loves to fetch sticks and I think she'll be a swimmer when the pond warms up. For sure, she is very active and loving life. Every morning, she fusses and 'sings' at me to hurry up with her breakfast. I'm lucky to have her - and I am really enjoying seeing her getting fit and seeing her enjoy herself with Tex and Loki.

What a grand old girl she is.
(Nell just turned 11 yrs old, Thank you Jo, Tex and Loki for welcoming her into your lives!)

I am soo excited/happy to say that thanks to Nathalie
Labelle at Ewenique Farms Cody got to meet sheep today
- and he was amazing!!!

I was totally expecting lots of charging and gripping
of the sheep, but he was soo calm, focused and in
control. Cody was brave enough to go in-between the
sheep and the fence to move them out. He even lay
down when Nat told him to! His reward was getting to
work the sheep again. Nat was impressed by him and
thinks he would be a good chore dog.

I had Nat work him, and funny boy that he is he would
check in with me any time he passed by. When he got
tired he also came back to me. He has quickly
recovered and is back to herding the cat.

Vounteer HELP NEEDED for BCRO!

AAC REGIONAL AGILITY CHAMPIONSHIPS

May 23-25th 2008

Ilderton , Ontario

The AAC regional committee has generously offered to help BCRO raise money by collecting donations for entry into this event. BCRO volunteers will be on hand to help with site and agility information. Many of our Adopted Border Collies and owners will be on course showing off their skills.

BCRO is looking for Volunteers for Sunday the 25th to help raise funds and awareness at the Regional Agility Championships in Ilderton Ontario. We need to have people at the gate from 9am till approx 4pm. Not only will you be helping the foster dogs of BCRO but you can enjoy watching some of the BEST dogs and handlers in Ontario compete for Regional Championships and Qualify for Nationals. There will be many vendors on location.

Hopefully if we get enough help we can just do a couple of hrs. each and can also take in the days events.

In rescue we always have our highs and lows.
Our handsome Red boy Jimmy has found himself a incredible new home that filled that high!
Jimmy now affectionately named KORE has found his place with Judy and Willow.
Not only is Jimmy proving to be a incredible companion to both Judy and Willow but he is going to get the opportunity to do some Dogsports. He already attended his first flyball practice!

This is one of those dogs that really made a impact on me. Okay YES I do have a soft spot for red dogs. I have to say when I had him here, he was only here for about 3 days and I had him at the park. I was talking to someone and looked down, he was just laying there with his ball looking up at me with the brightest eyes and wagging that tail... honestly I got choked up... it made me so sad for a moment to think someone dumped this dog at the shelter and he was so unconditionally loving.
Thanks for giving him a great home Judy. Honestly it is beyond our wildest desires for this boy to get a chance to do everything you are going to do with him!

I LOVE LIFE, a home visit is being done for my new family in Kingston. We are meeting with my brother and his new dad tomorrow for our second set of puppy shots.
Thought I would show you just how great life is in foster care!!!!
I will miss all my friends but can't wait to have a family that gives me tons of LOVE!

I was on my way to Starbucks tonight and bumped into Craig and Patrasche, AKA Dudley.
They were enjoying the spring air out on a patio.
Well OK the puppy was passed out from all the fun they had been having.
They look like an excellent match and no doubt this is a beginning of their beautiful friendship!

Handsome Quincey boy has been on our website and in foster care for almost a year. This wonderful boy come to us intact and after being given away free to good home, taken to a hobby farm where they new owner decided there was something 'wrong' with the fact he liked to chase the sheep Quincey came to BCRO. This dog has a full littermate that is a ROCKING sport dog. Quincey is every Border Collie Lovers dream dog. He is loyal and only has eyes for his person. He loves to play ball and frisbee, he has a great off switch in the house. Here are some video and pictures of him playing frisbee with foster mom Tracy.

Hey there,

Here are some pictures of Cody and his favourite - the
jolly ball. He loves to play fetch, or to just carry
it around and chase the other dogs.

Cody attended his first flyball tournament on the
weekend. He was a very good boy in his crate while we
were racing and hung out with us in-between. Now that
the summer events have started up Cody will be getting
tons of opportunities to work on his social skills.

Just wanted to say a HUGE Thanks to Sharin 'Blogger' for setting up the BCRO Blog page! As I am writing this I just keep repeating those strict instructions... what ever you do DON'T CHANGE THE SETTINGS!!! You ROCK!
I think this is a great way to give everyone a glimpse into the crazy lives of our committed team of foster homes and rescuers. I also think it will give everyone the opportunity to see the work we are doing with our current foster dogs to prepare them for their new homes.
I am currently trying to udate the foster dogs bio's with new spring pictures so check them out! We have some gorgeous and loving dogs looking for their forever homes. Here are the Crazy Handsome Boys Rally and Heni enjoying some ball in the yard this AM while I drink my coffee and snap some shots!

Sponsers needed to help with 2 mixed breed pups in BCRO's care.

These 2 bundles of love landed themselves in the care of BCRO after being contacted about them needing to find a foster situation. How could we say no to these curly tops.
Originally sold out of the back of a van by a Puppy Broker who advertises a list of different breeds and advertised as Border Collie puppies from Working lines. These puppies are clearly mixed pups and also were horribly dehydrated, hungry and in desperate need of a bath. After spending 2 nights at the vets being rehydrated and tested for parvo, boosters, fecal and health exams these 2 kids are feeling great. We have absolutely no idea what they are crossed with, they have very soft curly coats. Very little color on their bodies and shorter tails that curl up. They are approx 7 weeks old and already LOVE to chase your feet, they are friendly and full of mischief! Special angels are needed to help cover the vet costs on this adorable pair. We will also be accepting applications for potential adopters and they will be adopted out at 9 weeks of age. They will continue to be socialized and worked with in their foster home to make sure they are healthy and placed appropriately. So far all looks good!

Last week we were contacted by a vet about a young Border Collie X that had been brought to him by a Animal Control.
Chris and I met with Tania from The Canine Wellness Centre and together we went to evaluate and meet with a young and super sweet Border Collie mix that was left partially paralyzed in a snow bank for a number of days. Luckily for her some caring person called in to animal services, it is unknown how long this poor girl was in this condition and to make matters worse she had 7 young pups waiting in the barn. The orthopedic specialist who says her chances of walking again are VERY good, she is currently severly under weight and has had a enourmous amount of trauma. X rays showed no fractures but she is purple with bruises. After meeting her there was no way we could not help her especially having the amazing resources and support that we do. Eve is coming into foster care with BCRO, she is being fostered by a wonderful woman Margaret who already has a special needs BC x in Wheels - Bella. The next 2-3 weeks will be the tell tale if we can get her up and on 4 legs again, she will be spending her days with Tania at the Canine Wellness Centre (www.caninewellness.com) in Daycare. Tania will be providing the proper rehab and physio on her during this time so we can give her the best possible chance. In the meantime we have made arrangements for her to have a set of "wheels" so that she can remain mobile. If anything this is a girl that desperately wants to get up! She is showing some good signs, tail wagging and hind leg reflexes. Hopefully having the ability to continue to move around will keep up her spirits during this process.

Finally this sweet girl is settled in foster care, the girls at that Canine Wellness centre are spending days with her and say she is a GEM. So far she seems to be very social with other dogs. Eve is a real go getter of a girl, nothing seems to faze her and she has no handling issues.
She is a super friendly girl who wants to play, kiss and LOVES her belly rubs!

December 18th update.
Our girl EVE is raring to walk again. We have some video of her from the first time she came into our care last week to early this week, you can really see how initially she would not use her rear legs at all.Also she is now standing and able to hold herself up and peed on her own.This is a HUGE feat!

HUGE Success' for Eve!

Today I went for a visit with Eve at the Canine Wellness Centre,
Thanks to foster mom Margaret for taking the time to bring her over to see us on a Sunday!
I can't believe this is the same girl we picked up just 2 weeks ago. Tania and her assistant Tara at the centre have been working extremly hard to teach Eve how to use her legs again. Because she lay in the snow for so long she had some frostbite on her chest and she is having some skin issues that we are working on.
Eve is a happy go lucky girl who is very busy and into everything, she REALLY is happy now that she can now walk around. She is very bonded to her people and likes to be near and follow close by, she is super responsive and VERY food motivated. Today she found a stuffed goose and had a little game of tug. She is going to make someone a wonderful companion dog.
