Grote explained that the new commercialized LightForm flexible LED lighting film is ultra thin and ultra pliable, allowing users to bend lighting around corners, over contoured areas and into complicated shapes. He noted that LightForm can be folded, cut to fit while lit and can slide into the narrowest crevices and between panels and trim. LightForm also enables users to achieve edge lighting effects that are as bright at one end as they are at the other, and when used with light diffusing film, eliminates the hotspots and bright points of light that are so often associated with traditional edge lighting methods.

Members of the media had their first chance to see an illuminated sheet of the transparent, paper-thin LightForm, as samples were passed around the afternoon press conference. Examples of the newly commercialized LightForm strips were also examined by the audience.

LightForm flexible LED strips come in power strips and extension strips and each power strip can illuminate up to two extension strips.

Each LightForm flexible LED strip measures 10 inches (254 mm) long, 0.5 inches (127 mm) wide and is less than 1 millimeter thick. LightForm flexible LED strips are expandable; up to three, 10-inch segments can be connected, providing up to 30 inches (762 mm) of red, amber, green or blue LED lighting. The strips come with an easy peel-and-stick adhesive backing that sticks to virtually any clean surface.

“The marketplace is extremely receptive to this product concept and is ready to apply it to a wide variety of vehicles,” Grote said, citing a recent study of the restyling market conducted by Grote Industries. “A vast majority of restylers responded favorably or very favorably to the product, and marine, motorcycle and trucking uses were singled out in addition to automotive applications.” Grote said that virtually 99 percent of respondents thought that a significant market exists for LightForm.

Driving the Corvette coast to coast during the late summer, Barringer displayed the car at a number of trade shows, including shows in Daytona Beach, Chicago, and Anaheim.

"Everywhere I stopped, people wanted to take their picture with the car," he said. "There must be thousands of picture floating around the Internet now."

As to plans for racing the project cars, Barringer was less certain. "We are planning on racing all of our cars in some fashion, but we will need to find a few more sponsors to get them track ready. We have three cars now, and we plan on adding three more in 2010."

Barringer will be traveling to this week's SEMA show in Las Vegas to officially launch the new communities and meet with advertisers and sponsors.

Nextar’s vice president Bob Sayles, who will present his perspective on the evolution of PND prices, features and channels to markets, doesn’t believe Google and its free navigation is going to take a lot of market share from PND manufacturers, but it will definitely hurt the smartphone navigation software providers.

“The industry will need to react quickly and make sure they get the balance between features, cost and target market absolutely right,” says Sayles.

However, NIM’s vice president of marketing, Steve Andler, thinks otherwise, and questions whether a “brand new and completely unproven” map database should be used for a mission-critical function like real car navigation. “You can’t just put a bunch of smart programmers on this and assume that you’re going to have a stable, serviceable solution quickly,” says Andler.

The navigation industry’s nervousness is understandable. Right now, given the effect of the announcement on TomTom and Garmin public stock prices, Flom suggests that Google’s GPS nav announcement may also have shaved 25-50% off the value of Telenav’s upcoming IPO.

Weyer said. "Ambient interior lighting has become a very popular automotive option. However, without a license to my dashboard lighting patent, automobile manufactures and aftermarket suppliers had to restrict the ambient lighting to interior spaces, such as door sills and cupholders. Now, with the availability of licenses to my patent, they will be able to offer ambient lighting for dashboard instruments as well."

Licenses will be available on a product by product basis based on a one-time payment. "Although it would probably be more lucrative for me to license the patent on a percentage-of-sales royalty basis, for both small and large businesses alike, a one-time payment per product model provides more certainty and is more convenient." The exact price for a license will depend on the size and type of manufacturer. "For a car manufacturer, licenses will be on the order of tens of thousands of dollars per car model. For an aftermarket manufacturer, licenses will be on the order of a few thousand dollars per licensed product line."
In recognition of SEMA, Weyer will offer special, reduced patent licensing fees until Nov. 8, 2009.

Las Vegas, NV (Vocus/PRWEB ) November 2, 2009 -- AMSOIL has added three new popular designs to its family of Injen/AMSOIL Diesel Air Intake Systems, expanding its offerings for auto and light truck applications. Primarily used to increase the amount of oxygen available to the engine, intake systems like these also increase power. Cold air has a greater density than hot air, causing aftermarket intakes to improve combustion of fuel by causing the cool air to be captured from outside the engine compartment. They also add a sleek, custom look to the vehicle while improving gas mileage and performance.

Two of the new Injen/AMSOIL Diesel Air Intake Systems are available for Chevy Silverados.
2004 - 2005 Chevy Silverado 2500/3500 6.6L V8 Diesel (LLY)
2007 1/2 - 2009 Chevy Silverado 2500/3500 Duramax Diesel V8, 6.6L (LMM)
Gains of 13-17 horsepower and torque gains of 30-32 have been measured.

A third intake design, for 1999-2003 Ford 250/350/Excursion/Powerstroke 7.3L applications, has delivered +11 horsepower and a torque gain of 28.
