Farewell Yann

Yann Aubry just left last wednesday to Marseille, France, where he'll be studying engineering in college. Skateimpact is gonna miss a true friend/skater, we all wish him good luck out there and hope to see him winning some contests there.

It's true that Bling's footage and photos have been all around the website, and that's why he deserves to be on the team. As for a start, being in the Flow team he will be able to dedicate more time for skateimpact.

Actually, we headed for Sporting Club for a first photo shoot.

Bling fired up some ollies over the rails and boardslides.
Next was another spot by a 6 set and a 3 set, it was really sick that Bling decided to do neither of them. It was really dark at the time, and it's always not pleasant to have flashes headed to your face in almost complete darkness...yet seems it wasn't a problem for him, he nailed the drop instantly before we left.

That was an awesome day when some folks from cairo dropped down to Alex along with Hazem. Yassin Koptan snapped that shot when Yann was ollying the FENCE AND SLOPE... dont worry, it's on tape and will be on here soon. The crazy thing is that this run up needs ALOT of speed and very fast foot positioning so yann can pull this trick ALIVE, haha. Yann nailed it twice in a row !

One Night Photo Shooting with Yann.

Two weeks ago, me and Yann went on a photo shoot. We went to Carrefour parking lot as we had some ideas in mind. Yann warmed up while i set up the equipment. He went with the Front nose slide first, got some good clean shots.

A weird couple of lovers came by to "chat" and sat right where we're shooting, they were in the middle of the frame and we could not continue that way. 10 seconds later, came a security guy askin that we leave. It was obvious that he didnt like to see a camera around....I really dont know why!
So I told him we're shootin for a "magazine" and that we will be done in 5 minutes. He wondered what mag it was, so i told him "it's a magazine in cairo i dont think you know about." So he left us askin to leave by the time he arrives to the mall's gates.
Some settings changes for the flashes, shot some other photos, after asking those "Lovers" to move away.
Then the security guy came back in a couple of minutes to kick us out as his "BOSS" is watchin from far to see us goin away.
I told him just leave us another 5 minutes, and that I will take a photo of him to put in the mag. well, he didnt fall for it, so i kept arguing why he's makin us leave while it's definately not fair to leave that "Couple". Guess what he replied? That they are his friends! What the...!

We werent really gonna stay long, but i had in mind a photo to shoot. I asked for 1 more photo. He wasnt fine with it, but i set up the flash in a HURRY, wasnt too sure im gettin something good. So i asked Yann to quickly roll, and I shot that HEELFLIP photo...

You can notice the security guy on the top left of the photo, seems he gave us his back in purpose.
I was really happy today when I developped the film roll, and found the heelflip photo looking amazing.

I packed my gear and we rolled away for the next spot.
I didnt really know what Yann was thinkin of until he took me where he wanted to go. It's that bridge right next to 24/7 spot. He wanted to drop in the quarter pipe-looking sides.
I really thought it's dangerous and that he shouldn't do it coz of cars. He convinced me to do it coz he can see the cars coming his way, and we actually found not a lot of cars go over the bridge.

I am used to askin any one skatin with us to watch one of the flashes for me, but it was me and yann only and as soon as i set the flashes in position, people gathered around, cars stoppin by wondering what we're doin. Yann was tellin me that my camera bag makes me look like a spy, haha. Well, I was worried about Yann droppin in, as well as about the flashes not to get stolen.
Yann, fired it on and it was a matter of a couple of tries that he landed the drop in and rolled away in the street! A very productive night with 3 awesome photos. SUCCESS!

First Team Coverage- Day 1

As soon as Skateimpact Team was announced, these guys were asked to go on their first photo shoot and filming session. Yann -living in Alex-, joined Hazem and Yehia in Cairo on a 2 days mission. Here's day 1 photos. Friends like Ramy, Badr, taqyu, Mina Adel attended the session too.
Unfortunately, Fayek has forgotten his flash receivers... so he didnt have much flexibility to setup his flashes. And Ahmed Hilali Helped alot by bringin his camera. Photos taken by Ahmed Tarek, Hilali and Fayek.

Welcome. This is the Skateimpact Team Blog and it will be updated very frequently with exciting news and coverage of the team. So keep checkin it up.

It's true that we started sponsoring the team, but that does not mean that you missed the chance!! We are always there, noticing everyone, and might pick you up as a 'Flow Rider'.

'Flow' means you get to ride for skateimpact for a limited time, get freebies, have to go on filming and photoshoot sessions with the team filmer and photographer...and the more you prove yourself, the more you'll stay on the team...and eventually join the primary team.

Do your best, keep the videos and pictures coming to skateimpact as we're not done picking riders.

If you're really tech, you can post your video on the Web for us to download and check out. Here's what you have to do: Make sure your footage is in a raw video format, so it's not too compressed and not too small. Please use Quicktime (.mov) or mpeg. Go to youtube.com and upload the file.

Send the vids or links to : team[at]skateimpact.com and make sure you write your full name, address and phone/mobile number.
Please keep the videos under three minutes and don't include any music.
All videos will get watched and we will let you know if you're on the team.
