Led Zeppelin will not be performing in Toronto in August, despite speculative reports to the contrary. Whether the legendary rockers reunite later this year, in Toronto or anywhere on this side of the Atlantic Ocean, remains to be determined.

A blog posting last week on MuchMusic.com said Zeppelin would reunite for the second time in as many years to play four shows at the Rogers Centre (the former SkyDome) in August. A Globe and Mail report yesterday said that preliminary discussions were taking place with the dome.

Yesterday, though, two sources in the position to know both said they were unaware of any discussions involving Led Zeppelin playing in Toronto at any venue, with one source completely dismissing the speculation.

Music industry magazine Billboard inquired into the report "at the highest level" and, according to the magazine's news editor Jonathan Cohen, was "fairly confident there's nothing to it."A spokesperson for the Rogers Centre yesterday said there is nothing to the reports regarding Led Zeppelin, but did not close the door. "I would love to be able to say that they are coming, however at this time there is no scheduled date for a performance by the band in August," said Nadia Flaim, communications manager for the Rogers Centre. "It is simply too early to discuss venue or stage set-up, should they come to perform."

The prototypical hard-rock group, Led Zeppelin formed in 1968 comprising guitarist Jimmy Page, singer Robert Plant, drummer John Bonham and bassist/keyboardist John Paul Jones. They disbanded in 1980 after Bonham's death. The three survivors reunited for one-off shows in 1985, 1988 and 1995 -- but had their first headlining gig as a reunited Led Zeppelin last Dec. 10 at London's 02 Arena. With Bonham's son Jason on drums, Zeppelin played largely sizzling versions of the band's biggest hits over two memorable hours.

Earlier last fall, both Page and Jones told the Sun that the foursome would wait to see how the 02 Arena show went before discussing, either privately or publicly, any further reunions. Zeppelin then regrouped without instruments in January, where Plant informed the others that he'd be touring this spring and summer with Alison Krauss behind their critical-hit CD Raising Sand. That tour concludes July 19 in Nashville.

With no official announcement from the band, speculation since January has focused on either a Zep tour, or series of dates, on this side of the Atlantic some time later this year. Considering the following band-member logistics, reports of Rogers Centre shows in August make almost no sense.

First, Jason Bonham is touring with Foreigner and they have two shows confirmed for late August: Aug. 22 in Detroit and Aug. 30 in Atlantic City. But the Rogers Centre's only stretch of four vacant days in succession in August is in that last week, because of stretches of Jays, Argos and Bills games earlier in the month. What's more, late August dates would mean Led Zeppelin would have at most just a few weeks of rehearsal time -- and that would require no down time for Plant after his long tour with Krauss. Finally, Plant and Krauss have at least one festival show lined up for September, and if you're Robert Plant you don't just squeeze in a few Led Zeppelin shows between your bluegrass gigs.

Plant was long seen as the biggest obstacle to any Zeppelin reunion. Publicly he always said it was because he's not into "nostalgia" acts, preferring instead to always break new musical ground either as a solo artist or in collaboration with others, such as Krauss. But those who intimately know Zeppelin's music and career suspect it might also have been because Plant can no longer hit the high notes he so fabulously reached on some of the band's most famous songs, circa 1968-73. In other words, he'd have the most to lose if he couldn't pull off a reunion, vocally. That's undoubtedly why Zeppelin played several songs at 02 Arena in lower keys, including Stairway to Heaven, Ramble On and The Song Remains the Same. Those stepped-down arrangements might even have been the key factor in Plant agreeing to reunite.

Might Led Zeppelin yet reunite later in the fall? Say, in November? And if in Toronto, wouldn't it make more sense to play at the Air Canada Centre? After all, no band ever cared more about its sound than Led Zeppelin, and all Toronto concert goers can tell you the sound just plain sucks at concerts held inside the concrete reverberation sphere once known as the SkyDome.

For Badgeholders Only, an Internet mailing list devoted to the band, reported in April that Page, Bonham and Jones had been in a rehearsal studio in London. Presumably, then, they're preparing to play something, somewhere, sometime.
Just not at the former SkyDome in August.

More Rumours Flaring Up Over Led Zeppelin Reunion in Toronto

It's been a long time since Led Zeppelin did the stroll in front of a Toronto audience, but a return by the grand British band of blues rock could happen, possibly at Rogers Centre.

Rumours of a Zeppelin reunion have floated freely since the band's ballyhooed one-off performance at London's O2 Arena last December. Current speculation, however, has foundation. "It's my understanding that some preliminary discussions are going on," said Nadia Flaim, the stadium's communications manager .

Earlier this week, a MuchMusic blogger reported that a "reliable source" had provided details. "No fancy tour of the U.S.," the online dispatch reads, "but Toronto will have four dates at Skydome/Rogers Centre this coming August."

According to Ms. Flaim, August concerts are unlikely, due to Blue Jays and Argonauts games already in place. "Just based on the time needed for conversion purposes, it would be a very tight squeeze."

Since the London concert, the group - which broke up in 1980, and last played here in 1971 - have done little to quell rumours. "You never know what is around the corner," guitarist Jimmy Page said early this year. More recently, singer Robert Plant, who is touring with bluegrass singer Alison Krauss this summer, spoke of "unfinished business."

Rock supergroup LED ZEPPELIN are to play four shows in Toronto, Canada this summer (08), according to new Internet reports. A news blog on Canadian music TV channel's Much Music website reports the August (08) dates at the Skydome/Rogers Centre stadium will officially be announced shortly. No other shows will be announced, according to the report, and the band will not tour the U.S. Led Zeppelin founders Robert Plant, Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones reunited last year (07) for a one-off tribute show to late music mogul Ahmet Ertegun in December. The trio has fuelled speculation of more dates with remarks made in a series of interviews since the December concert in London. Reports suggest the threesome has been offered upwards of $200 million (£100 million) for a full-scale tour.

Coverdale Denies Comments Supporting a Led Zeppelin World Tour

WHITESNAKE frontman DAVID COVERDALE has denied making comments to the U.K. press about supporting LED ZEPPELIN on tour, insisting he has no idea where the statement came from. Led Zeppelin reformed for a concert in London in December (07), fuelling rumours they are gearing up for a world tour - which has prompted bands including The Cult and Stone Temple Pilots to express their interest in landing a support slot.

When asked if Whitesnake would accept an invitation, Coverdale was quoted in the Daily Mirror insisting, "Am I on board? You bet! probably worth billions!" However, Coverdale now insists the quotes did not come from him, because Whitesnake are too busy with their own tour to support anybody else. He tells website www.ClassicRock.com, "May I call upon your assistance to help put out this s**tstorm that be gathering steam about me, supposedly saying I’m awaiting Lord Page’s call to invite me to be the supporting act on the forthcoming Led Zeppelin world tour. What f**king world tour, we ask ourselves? We’re already out on our "Good To Be Bad world tour", thank you very much! I have no idea where this started."

The former Deep Purple rocker admits a union between Led Zeppelin and Whitesnake would be highly unlikely, due to his past conflicts with Led Zeppelin co-founder Robert Plant. Led Zeppelin set for a World Tour

Led Zeppelin are set to reform for a world tour after their triumphant one-off reunion concert.

The Whole Lotta Love legends, with more than 300 million album sales worldwide, are ready to rock 'n roll again to mark their 40th anniversary this year. And like the Rolling Stones, they could each make up to £10million.

Fans have been calling for Led Zep to tour after their successful gig at London's 02 Arena last December, which saw Jason Bonham on drums in place of late dad John.

Singer Robert Plant, 59, was originally opposed to the idea but has been talked round by bandmates Jimmy Page, 64, and John Paul Jones, 62.

A long-time pal, Whitesnake's frontman David Coverdale, said yesterday the tour was "very likely" and he was expecting to be the support act.

David said: "I'm expecting a call from Jimmy any day asking my band Whitesnake to support them on their world tour. Am I on board? You bet. Probably worth billions!

"Unlike rolling out the wheelchairs with the umpteenth Rolling Stones world tour, a Led Zeppelin tour will be incredible."

A source added: "A couple of months ago, it looked unlikely because Robert was against the idea.

LED ZEPPELIN are in talks to reform for a final world tour after the success of their December reunion show.

Robert Plant is Buying Bootleg Zeppelin Records

Robert Plant loves buying bootleg copies of his band’s work - but refuses to pay full price for the records.

The Led Zep frontman loves finding shops selling the illegal copies reminding him of the past, but Plant ensures he gets the one-off recordings for half-price because he threatens the sellers with the wrath of unforgiving band member Jimmy Page.

He says, "(There are shops on London’s West End) selling Led Zeppelin bootlegs on vinyl which are very nice too. I brought two copies of the Paris Theatre show, from London in 1972."

"Well, they looked a bit sheepish. When they tried to charge me full price I said , ‘Don’t do that or I’m gonna send Jimmy Page round?’"

LED ZEPPELIN Nominated for "Best Live Act" For Last Years Reunion Show

LED ZEPPELIN has been nominated for "Best Live Act" at this year's Mojo Awards. The veteran group picked up a nomination for its reunion show last December.

The awards will be handed out a ceremony in London on June 16.
In a recent issue of Uncut magazine, singer Robert Plant, who is widely viewed as the lone hold out on agreeing to a full scale ZEPPELIN tour, was asked if he felt the success of the band's performance last December at London's O2 Arena was enough of a victory to permanently ice any future work with the band. Plant said, "Not at all. I really enjoyed it. And hopefully, one day we could do it again for another really, really good reason... For people who came from Australia or Japan, to Jason (Bonham's) family, John's family, all the families — anticipation and expectation was huge. The potential for failure was also great because nobody knew what it was going to be like”

Plant went on to reflect on the O2 show saying, "We did what we set out to do and more, in every respect. We showed people that LED ZEPPELIN did go on a bit...The interplay between us all was excellent”

John Paul Jones, who has said that he, like Page and Bonham, would like the band to hit the road, reflected on the reunion gig, saying, "It felt like the first night of a tour. You think, 'Oh, I could do that bit better, or change something in that song.' And we didn't get a chance to do any more."

When pressed about the prospects of a ZEPPELIN reunion album, Jones said, "I'm not too certain about anything at the moment. I've got no idea what's going to happen, but I'd certainly like to play with Jimmy again."

Jimmy Page says that there are currently no plans to release a CD or DVD from the O2 show: "It was recorded, but we didn't go in with the express purpose of making a DVD to come out at Christmas, or whatever. We haven't seen the images or investigated the multitracks. It's feasible that it might come out at some distant point, but it'll be a massive job to embark on."

When asked point blank what the current status of ZEPPELIN is now and if a tour could happen, Page said, "The focus was on the O2 show. That's what I had my focus on. As for Robert, he had a parallel project (with Alison Krauss) and it's been successful, which I suppose means he doesn't have time for ZEPPELIN at this moment. What I do know — is at the rehearsals, and the O2 gig, we were really inspiring. Okay? That's all I'll say."

Robert Plant and Alison Krauss recently finished a few U.S. shows and are on their way to tour Europe later this month. They'll return this summer to start another leg of the US tour and will be joined onstage by producer and musician T-Bone Burnett. He says that the fans can expect a variety of songs at the show, including some LED ZEPPELIN songs. "We're doing 'Black Dog'. I think we're doing some more obscure ones too. We're doing a couple of B-sides. We're doing 'The Battle of Evermore', which is just mind-blowing. And that's something that LED ZEPPELIN never did live. So it's a great chance to do it now with Alison singing the Sandy Denny part. And of course she just kills it." BRAY JAZZ FESTIVAL 2008

When rock legends Led Zeppelin announced a once-off reunion concert in London last Christmas, it created the largest demand for tickets for a concert show in history.

Several million fans scrambled to get seats at the show in the city’s O2 Arena, resulting in the crash of the concert’s official web-site, and the subsequent sale of tickets for hundreds, and even thousands of times their face value.

Local lovers of the music of the British rock legends will get a unique chance to hear their music in a live setting next month – but it will be a musical production of an entirely different sort when the inventive Paris based Orchestra National de Jazz (ONJ) come to town.

The French orchestra’s ‘Close to Heaven’ - a celebration of the music of Led Zeppelin is one of the highlight’s of this year’s Bray Jazz Festival, an event which has yet again assembled a brilliantly diverse and imaginative programme of concerts for the town over the May Bank Holiday weekend.

Now in it’s 9th year, Bray Jazz 2008 will host shows by performers from as far afield as China, the United States, Italy, Cuba, Cape Verde, Sweden, Denmark and the United Kingdom, when the festival rolls into town on May 2nd, 3rd and 4th with a programme of over 40 concerts, recitals, and pub trail shows.

The concert featuring Orchestra National de Jazz will take place at Mermaid Arts Centre, which will also play host over the weekend to shows by the European jazz supergroup ‘Mare Nostrum’, featuring a Swedish pianist, Italian trumpeter and French accordianist, and a unique to Mermaid standing only gig with the legendary American funk legend Maceo Parker and his band.

Parker, who made his name as a member of the late soul great James Brown’s band has spent the past decade recording and touring with Prince, comes to Bray with a 12 piece jazz funk orchestra who are legendary who are renouned for their marathon dance shows.

Elsewhere, this year’s festival will a progamme of day-time and evening shows at the town’s Royal Hotel, featuring Cuban drumming great Dafnis Prieto amongst others, a series of world music shows at it’s World Stage at Katie Gallaghers, a programme of early evening recitals in the Town Hall, and late night club concerts at The Heather House Hotel.

Pub and hotel venues around the town will also be in on the act, hosting free to the public concerts and shows each night, over the May bank holiday weekend.
