Open a Command Prompt window. (Start->All Programs->Accessories->Command Prompt). For some files, this must be run with Administrator privileges . In that case, right click on Command Prompt, and click “Run as administrator.”
By default it should already open in the "C:\Users\[your_username]" directory.
Type "attrib +S +H AppData" to hide the AppData directory.
Type "attrib +S +H ntuser.dat.LOG1" to hide ntuser.dat.LOG1.
Type "attrib +S +H ntuser.dat.LOG2" to hide ntuser.dat.LOG2.
Look at your user directory in Windows Explorer and they should not be showing anymore. (A refresh might be required to see the changes)

If you ever need to undo this, simply substitute the "+S +H" with an "-S -H" in the instructions above.

Do u get irritated when acrobat reader takes 5/10 seconds to load when you want to open a pdf document. There is a way to speed up the loading.

1. Go to the installation folder of acrobat reader
(C:\program files\adobe\acrobat\reader\.. whatever)

2. Move all the files and folders from the "plugins" directory to the "Optional" directory. (I repeat.. cut and paste the files NOT copy & paste).

Also make sure that acrobat reader is not open else it will lock the files and not allow you to move the files).

Now your acrobat reader will load very fast
and almost as good as notepad..

Microsoft has made available a program to analyze and decrease the time it takes to boot to WindowsXP
The program is called BootVis

Uncompress the file.
Run BOOTVIS.EXE
For a starting point, run Trace / Next Boot + Driver Delays
This will reboot your computer and provide a benchmark
After the reboot, BootVis will take a minute or two to show graphs of your system startup.
Note how much time it takes for your system to load (click on the red vertical line)
Then run Trace / Optimize System
Re-Run the Next Boot + Drive Delays
Note how much the time has decreased
Mine went from approximately 33 to 22 seconds.

Clearing the Page File on Shutdown

The pagefile is the virtual memory of Windows XP. It is used when there is no more suffiecent amount of RAM. Windows then moves parts of the RAM to the harddrive. However, if a program crashes some parts of it will not be deleted remaining within the pagefile. This causes this file to fragment and therefore the access to it gets slower.

You can force Windows to overwrite the pagefile with 0's everytime Windows is shut down. You'll use regedit to set this up. Click "Start" -> "Run..." and type "regedit".

In the registry navigate to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ System \ CurrentControlSet \ Control \ Session Manager \ Memory Management". In the right window locate the string "ClearPageFileAtShutDown" and double-click on it.

Just change the value to 1. Now everytime you shut down Windows the pagefile will be cleared.

Notice that clearing the pagefile may cause the shutdown of Windows to take much longer. In this case you might want to disable it by setting the above registry key to 0.

Make Acrobat Reader Load Faster

Here's how to do it:

1. Go to C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 6.0\Reader (replace the C if you installed on another drive, like I did).

2. Create a new folder called plug_ins_disabled.

3. Move all files from the plug_ins folder to the plug_ins_disabled folder except EWH32.api, printme.api, and search.api. There should only be these 3 files in the plug_ins folder.

1) You open notepad

2) now you write: [autorun]

Now save it but not as a .txt file but as a .inf file.

But remember! The "Setup_filename.EXE" MUST be replaced with the name of the setup file. And you also need to remember that it is not all of the setup files there are called '.exe but some are called '.msi

4) Now set the CD in you CD drive and wait for the autorun to begin or if nothing happens just double-click on the CD drive in "This Computer"

Invisible Folders

First of all create a new folder somewhere on your hard drive

when you name it hold down "Alt" and press "0160" this will create an invisible space so it will appear as if it has no name.

then right click on it and select "Properties" select the tab "customize" and select "change icon" scroll along and you will come across few blanc spaces click on any one and click ok when you have saved the settings the folder will be invisible.... to hide all your personal files....

If you want to encrypt the contents of an individual file or directory, Windows XP Pro will do the trick, provided you enable NTFS on your hard drive. To encrypt a file, right-click on it to bring up the Properties window. Click on the Advanced button, then in the Advanced Attributes dialog box click on Encrypt contents to secure data. This will encrypt the file (using either DES, which employs a 56-bit key on each 64-bit block of data, or 3DES, which uses a 56-bit key three times on each 64-bit block of data), and it will provide a certificate just for you. This certificate is key; if you reinstall Windows or otherwise lose your user account, your access to the encrypted files will be gone, too. You need to export your certificates to back them up: For detailed instructions, search on export certificate in Windows Help.

Windows XP does not require you to enter your password when you open the encrypted file. Once you log on to a session, encrypted files are available for you—and anyone who walks up to your system—to view.

Windows XP Home doesn't support this method. Both XP Home and XP Pro, however, let you create password-protected compressed files. To do this, right-click on the desired file and choose Send To | Compressed (zipped) Folder. Open the resulting folder and select Add a Password from the File menu; delete the original file. Note that this encryption is relatively weak. It should dissuade casual users but won't put up much of a fight against someone determined to hack it apart.

If XP will not install from the CD or if you have a new drive with no operating system on

it yet try these:

Install Windows XP from the hard drive with Windows 98 already installed:

Boot Windows 98

Insert the XP CD into your CD reader

Explore Windows XP through My Computer

Copy i386 folder to C:\

Go into C:\i386 folder and double click on winnt32.exe to launch the setup from the hard drive

Install Windows XP from DOS (ie. no OS on a new hard drive):

Boot with a Windows 98 Start Up disk

Insert the Windows 98 CD into the CD reader

Run smartdrv.exe from the Win98 directory on the windows 98 CD (file caching)

Type cd.. to back up to the root directory

Insert Windows XP CD into the CD reader

Copy the i386 folder to C:\

Go into C:\i386 folder on C: and type winnt.exe to launch the setup from the hard drive.

Increase XP folder settings

Windows remembers 400 folder settings. When that number is reached some settings aren't retained any longer. You can change this to 8000 by adding this edit to the registry.

How to speedup a slow computer

Press your Start Button (bottom left) and go to "run"

now type in: msconfig

now you will get a box that pops up and will tell you bunch of stuff dont mess with anything else other than what I tell you otherwise you could do something really bad (possible) go to your "startup" tab on the top right of the screen where it usually is and click it.

Now you will have a closed in box with bunch of filenames n addresses and more boxes with checks in them. Now if your like me you dont want anything starting up when you start you computer up or while your even doing anything cause it slows you down. Now unless your like me right now 1 have 1 thing starting up when my computer starts up and thats my settings for my overclocked graphic card. But other than that uncheck every box and then hit apply and ok. Then restart or wait till later to restart.
