Yay, Thursday! One day closer to the coveted weekend for me.
I had this great (in my eyes) idea for the blog this week. I love reading your comments and going to your blogs and getting inspired, but I feel like I don't know too much about you guys as bloggers. So, I figured I'd put together this little reader survey to get to know each one of you a little better. I will also fill it out so you can see who you're dealing with here. Nothing too personal, just an exploration of your style and fashion personalities. You can either post it as a comment here or post it on your own blog (make sure to link me back to it!) and then I can use that as some sort of guideline when looking at your pictures and posts. Hope you guys enjoy this!

1. Where do you live? (Don't have to get too specific, just a general idea of your surroundings is good enough.)
2. Describe your daily activities (weekday/weekend). (i.e. work, school, general frolicking around?)
3. Describe your style in a short sentence.
4. How do you incorporate your personal style into your everyday activities? (It tends to get tricky when you have a uniform or dress code.)
5. Finally, what are your hobbies or interests? (I feel this also tends to influence a person's fashion choices.)

Neekoh's Answers:
1. Where do you live?
I live in LA, obviously. More specifically, I live in a beach town, which definitely has an impact on how I dress, especially on weekends.
2. Describe your daily activities (weekday/weekend).
On weekdays, I work 8+ hours a day. When I get home, I bum around or run errands/make dinner/clean, etc. On weekends, I do whatever. Some of the most common activities are lounging around the house, going out to eat, shopping, laying by the pool/at the beach, going out with friends (bars or clubs), trying my best to explore new places (museums, gardens, towns).
3. Describe your style in a short sentence.
I would say I wear classic lines with a bit of funk, mostly in the accessories -- nothing too fussy.
4. How do you incorporate your personal style into your everyday activities?
At work, I try my best to keep it business casual with a taste of Neekoh in the accessories and/or color combinations.
5. Finally, what are your hobbies or interests?
This blog is my hobby. Fashion has become something that I've opened my eyes to more recently and I've started to be more conscious of the ways I dress and the pieces I buy. Other than that, I'm a pseudo-geek (meaning I spend way too much time at the computer) and I've recently started to explore cooking. I also pretend to surf and I shop like a pro. I'm sure you can imagine my wardrobe is full the of the essential So Cal pieces: swim suits, skirts, dresses, flip-flops and jeans.

Weekend Recap

Just a quick hello before heading to bed tonight.
This weekend, I visited the H&M at the Americana at Brand in Glendale... wow, I do not recommend visiting that place when it's 110 degrees outside. Totally kills the mood for shopping. But despite that, I managed to put another little dent in my checking account (while filling the gaping holes in my wardrobe). While I do not yet have pictures of my new loot, I will highlight a couple of things for you:

My favorite purchase of the weekend was an H&M dress akin to this Alloy number. Perfect for summer, as it's lightweight and loose. I can't wait to lounge around in it!

And though I don't want to post more "like this" pictures because I don't want to ruin the surprise, I will say that I bought some yellow to incorporate into both my office wardrobe and into my everyday/going out wardrobe.

Also!! I don't know if any of you have seen Get Smart, but in the dancing scene, one of the girls was totally carrying a white lace fan! I was so stoked... I feel like I'm a step ahead of the game here :)

Anyway, getting tired of looking at the computer screen, so I'm calling it a night. Hope you all had a great weekend too!

Oh, my babies, how I've missed you! Work's been crazy lately, so when I get home from the office, I tend to just crash (or sit on ibeatyou.com since it's srsly addictive). Plus, I've been sorta bumming around lately, so there haven't been any good outfits to report on.

Looks like the weekend is already shaping up to be a good one... now if H&M only had an online store.

I, personally, have been doing tons of shopping lately! Last weekend, The Blonde and I strolled around Third Street, simultaneously shopping and curing my hangover. These 2 shirts in particular are a couple of my favorite purchases. In fact, I'm thinking of wearing the white top tomorrow, to the opening night of The Hollywood Bowl. Thoughts? Suggestions?

I also purchased this scarf. Now, I might be overly zealous with this one, seeing as I have not yet mastered its wear... but here are some options I'm playing with. Also thinking of wearing this to the Bowl tomorrow. Again, thoughts and suggestions are much appreciated!

Sorry for the lack of posts lately. I've had an epic weekend (think car failure, lots of booze and hilarious text messages randomly ending up on my phone). Summer Inspirations

I wish I had more time to sit down and do decent blog posts. I've been so busy lately, that all my free time has almost vanished. And to top that off, I've switched computers and I don't yet have Photoshop installed on this one, so image editing and cropping has become a tedious task... so I procrastinate.
But enough whining! On with today's little entry. This one is an inspiration-driven one. I've had some money to go shopping lately and, instead of buying the first thing I see on sale, I'd rather take my time and invest in pieces and looks that I'll wear for a long time to come -- seems much more practical to me. These next pictures depict my current obsessions, inspirations and desires.

Undoubtedly, most of you have seen the MK Elle photos. Well, I found this one particularly stunning. The large-brimmed hat is something I've been coveting for quite some time and I think this picture speaks for itself when it comes to giving me a reason to buy one.
Secondly, this is the lovely Emily of Cupcakes and Cashmere. When I first saw this picture (thought it's a little out of context here -- she was commenting on her broker aviators), I looked past the sunglasses and fell in love with the hair. Braids are so casually chic and I love when they're worn as part of an everyday look. The look screams summer to me and that makes me really excited about the coming months of hot weather and fun beach activities. And the shopping, of course.

OK, for those of you who will notice, I accidentally named this image of Ashley, mk.gif. But don't you mind, I know my Olsen twins, so I have to give you a heads up that it was a simple mistake and not some ignorant flub on my part.
Anyway, moving on... the first picture here is of my co-worker in Vegas. When she sent me her trip pictures, I instantly fell in love with her simple yet eye-catching attire. The all-black, modern silhouette and long necklace make this perfect for a night out on the town without making her seem like just another party girl in it for the free drinks.
The second is, of course, Ashley Olsen. The mini dress is the perfect contrast to the over-sized blazer. I, naturally, want to own one of each now. She looks so polished and professional here. And her hair is absolutely perfect!
The final picture is something I grabbed off the Forever21 site a while back. I was looking for a dress to buy and this was the image that popped up when I brought up the dresses page. I think the scarf in the hair is such a great twist to the usual going-out party dress. I'm all about standing out at clubs and I think this is going to be my new way of doing just that. Now, to find the perfect scarf...

Who knew that the office could be your own personal runway? Well, I proved just that to myself (and several coworkers) today. Yes, I do always strut my stuff down the hallways, but apparently, that's just my everyday walk; I'm talking about people calling me out and making me walk for them. Strange, yes, but my office is cool like that. Anyway, I guess this dress did me justice today. I even got the, "Hot date tonight?" comment. Hah, thanks!

Leaving the house this morning, I was under the impression that my outfit was somewhat frumpy and a little reminiscent of a librarian:

Yes, that is a pile of change on the floor. Long story.

Saturday Night Fever

This past weekend was a blast!
Friday night, I went out with the roomies to Hermosa Beach. Who knew that the dancing could be so fun there (gasp, what? I went out to a place not in Hollywood? That's so unlike me!)? Granted, the place was small and I was hounded by a drunken dude all night, who I could not escape for the life of me... but it happens and you move on. Fun times nonetheless. Outfit wasn't much to report on, so let us move on to Saturday night...
I went shopping on Saturday to find a sexy date outfit. You see, I recently got a new promotion at work, so I decided to celebrate by going out to dinner (Katsuya), drinks (S Bar) and dancing (Ritual). As I mentioned before, I did not manage to take any photos due to inebriation of the brain via Grey Goose, but I did scope out F21 and found similar items to the ones I bought.

My dress, of course, does not have that hideous flower in the middle of the chest. And the purse was actually a clutch, with the same alligator-esque texture and the most 70s-inspired clasp (I know this because all of my mother's old purses looked like that). I also wore these BCBG shoes. So I had the whole black and white theme going all night. I thought it was pretty awesome... I'm still kicking myself for not taking enough pictures to document. Another lesson learned -- take more pictures!

Mid-Year Resolution

I get so mad at myself sometimes. I get overly eager to clean out my closet of "old" clothing items only to discover that they come back in style a mere 2 to 3 years later. I then frantically search the depths of my drawers with faint hopes that I didn't really give the Salvation Army the newly "in" pieces. But alas, it turns out that I am that efficient. In the recent past, I have given to the thrift stores two of my once-favorite, now-to-be-newly revived skirts. One was a long, flowy peasant-like number, with tiers and lace. Granted, I probably wouldn't have worn it right now, but I definitely still envision it as an easy summer ensemble for the months to come. Stupid Neekoh! The second is a short black skirt, with lace trim across the waistband and the perfect flare shape that takes me back to my childhood, when I would spin around watching the skirt fly up around me. It would be the perfect addition to my clubbing wardrobe -- a little out of the ordinary, but still short and sexy and easily paired with the hottest heels. Ugh! Now I'm sitting here, browsing shopstyle to find its perfect replacement, but I get angry because I don't want to have to spend the money on it again.
Oh well, so much for being on top of my spring cleaning. Lesson learned, fashion gods! I will never give away "old" pieces again.

Went out this weekend. Didn't take pictures because the Goose got to me before I thought to. I'll find the items online and post an e-version of the outfit later on. Back to work now...

Girl With Feather Hair

I must admit, I got a few strange looks today (my hair is a similar color, so people assumed I had matted it down to my head for some reason) and some Indian-inspired names from my coworkers. All in good fun, though, because I definitely made a fashion statement while getting a few approving and encouraging comments.

I wore this head-scarf thing (which is really the hem of a dress I cut short) for half the day last Friday. I couldn't go into my boss' office and talk to him about my position at work with that thing on and have him take me seriously. But overall, I think it's kinda cool.

New Purchases

For some reason, I've had this insane itch to shop lately. Granted, I could probably spend money like there's no tomorrow, it's actually quite a feat to get me to use my hard-earned cash to commit to a big purchase. So instead, I've been making several smaller purchases.
Firstly, I bought these gladiator-inspired sandals. After seeing everyone and their [figurative] mom donning them on my favorite fashion blogs -- everyone's favorite Rumi, Camille, Emily, Bear -- I decided it's time for me to join the masses and indulge in this trend. I can't wait to get them! And from overstock.com too! Who knew they had shoes? I surely did not.
Then there were these babies. I actually bought a pair at my local F21 about a week ago, but because the products there are (understandably) cheap in price and in quality, they broke the first time I wore them. I returned them and received store credit, which I promptly proceeded to spend at the online store to get the flat twisted sandals pictured over to the left here. I hope they fit well. But mostly, I hope they don't break on me! Come on, flats, I'm giving you a fighting chance here!
Lastly, but certainly not least, I bought one of these amazing pheasant feather hair clips, as per inspiration by Kristina from Dreamecho. I posted her version of the clip earlier and I'm just so excited to be receiving mine in the mail soon.
So,I guess the government's tax incentive program has worked for me. There, struggling economy, I hope that stimulates you... now if only gas prices can go down...

"I work for tips"

Drunkenly, I stumble into the ladies' room. To no one's surprise, there is a line 10 girls long. I join the crowd and wait impatiently, shifting my weight from one leg to the other, hoping to get to break the seal ASAP. I finally get in and out of a stall with a huge sigh of relief.
But, as always, there's always some roadblock which makes the situation more difficult and less desirable -- I now have to deal with the bathroom attendant who "works for tips." In cash. Now, that's problem number one right there. When I go out, I carry a tiny little clutch (in some cases, I don't even have that!), so I rarely carry cash.
Problem number two consists of the fact that I can pump soap into my own hand without any assistance. I can also wipe my hands with paper towels I take from the dispenser without any assistance. The fact that there is a tuxedo-clad middle-aged woman at a hip LA club, handing me paper towels and offering me hairspray, perfume and cigarettes annoys the living ish out of me! I feel like they serve no purpose at all, therefore, their service does not warrant tips.
Sure, there are the handful of completely inebriated girls who need all the assistance they can get, but for them, I think the time they spend in the stall itself is more likely to require help. Besides, there aren't that many of those girls to begin with and if there are, they usually have their sober-ish friends to help them out.
So, that is my rant on bathroom attendants. Opinions? Agree? Disagree? Feel free to add to this discussion. It might prove quite relevant as there is a three-day weekend approaching.

Not So Entertaining, Not So Quirky

For once, I've been really tagged.
Thanks to Emily from Cupcakes and Cashmere, whose blog I visit daily, I get to list my "six most unspectacular quirks."

1. I hum/sing/make noises along with guitar solos in my favorite rock songs.
2. I have a thing with my ears -- if you get too close, to where I can sense you but not see you, I freak.
3. I hate '80s new wave music. But I love hair metal.
4. Which reminds me: I'm a grammar freak. Difference between "it's" and "its," '80s not 80's (it's not a possessive!), inappropriate usage of quotation marks and apostrophes.
5. I think myspace is annoying. Bulletins especially. And when people TYPE LIKE THIS. CAPS LOCK MEANS YOU'RE SHOUTING. Duh.
6. I love sushi to no end. I think I could eat it for every meal, every day. That, and I have a slight obsession with the Asian culture -- everything from their food to their boys ;)

That's it! The only 2 people I can think to tag are my dear, dear friend The Blonde and my on-the-job partner in crime Chris, though I don't know how often either one of them updates their blog anymore. Also, if you want to do it, feel free!

The Hair Diaries

Recent comments that I resemble the lovely Nicole Richie have spawned an obsession with her look. Most notably, her hair.
You see, I've been thinking about cutting mine recently as it is quite the hot mess. I have naturally blonde, fine hair, and growing it out too long just doesn't seem to fit its nature too well. It looks good for a while, but then the combing and the blow-drying take a toll on it. And I have to blow dry it since it's fine and it doesn't like to hold shape/volume on its own too much. Coming across Nicole's pictures online is always an inspiration, but it's even more so now that I can use her image as my goal! Take a look at these and tell me what you think.

Ok, the fact that she's hot definitely helps. But onto the actual topic. I don't think I want to cut it too short because that requires too much styling. I also have stick straight hair, so obvi, the hair in the first photo would be achieved with my trusty curling iron. And I was thinking of making my bangs a little heavier.

It's the weekend yet again and I have finally caught up on some sleep. I will still take several naps tonight and all through the rest of the weekend, but at least I'm no longer running on adrenaline fumes. With that, I am happy to update today!
First of all, Palm Springs was so much fun! Of course, what happens in the desert, stays in the desert, so let's leave it at that. Instead, I have compiled several shots of what my second night outfit looked like... I don't have any full body shots, but I did do my best to represent each piece.

On another note, I finally bought the gray skinny jeans I'd been searching for. Urban does a great job of supplying me with trendy yet cheap clothing options.
I ended up getting these cigarette babies that are quite fun to put on and take off. Imagine, 11" foot opening. Fun!

I've also been making a list of other things to buy. I'll compile images and post them as a separate entry as I'm at work right now and should really get back to the office fun. But TGIF, that's for sure! Hope you all have a great one!

Quick Update: The Fan!

The newest addition to my accessories roster is this Spanish-style fold-out fan. I am in love with it and I cannot wait until it arrives in the mail! And to top it off, it was only $8, shipped! I feel like I've accomplished so much.
Now, to decide when and where I will "wear" it...
Off to Palm Springs tomorrow! I don't think I can communicate how excited I am! My BFF is going with and I can just imagine all the trouble we'll get ourselves into. Yay for summer!!

Sun, Swim and Sangria in the 'Springs

This upcoming weekend is my long-awaited trip to Palm Springs! Yes, I know, I'm a weekend late what with Coachella happening last weekend and all (to be honest, I wasn't stoked on any of those artists. Now last year is a different story. My husband Anthony Keidis was there, but I didn't get a chance to attend. Oh well). Either way, I am completely excited to pack my bathing suits, sun dresses and wedge sandals and do some skin damage to my already fair complexion. Obviously, I'm kidding. But I do look forward to the abundance of Mojitos served poolside.
Anyway, as I don't have photos of the outfits on hand, I will simply leave you with some links. I will post pictures once I come back, if I remember to snap any in between body shots ;)

I have a new obsession and it's just in time for the warming weather here in LA.
Step inside my head for a moment: pair the airiest dress with a pair of chunky sandals or metallic flats, an over-sized hat, a canvas bag with a tropical feel and a fan. Yes, that's right, a Japanese-inspired fold-out fan. This, my friends, is my latest obsession. Ebay has some great finds at very reasonable prices, so I think I may indulge.

What is it with you non-single guys acting like you're single when out and about? I bet your girlfriends would be very upset if they knew you were playing these dirty little games. Last night, the party turned out to be quite fun. Aside from the mini Chinese take-out containers full of noodles (mmm, my new weakness) and the open bar (hello, wine!), there were some interesting characters.
First and foremost, Perry Farrell of Jane's Addiction DJ'd the night away. I really wanted to take a picture with him, but apparently, I was too drunk and I wasn't thinking rationally. What-ever! I'm sober now and I still think he would have taken a picture with me.

Other than that, just met some cool people. Geeks & hotties from LA to NYC and San Francisco. Overall, a good time.

Looking for something to do this weekend? Oh, you're in LA? Why not join me and my art-savvy friends at LA Art Weekend? (Just to clarify, my friends are way savvier than I, but I do act the part pretty well -- mostly by donning my dark-rimmed glasses and wearing my hair in a bun.) Either way, looks like there will be plenty of interesting exhibits and events, most of which are by LA for LA.
Also, I know it's not quite the weekend, but Thursday night is shaping up to be quite amazing too. PopSugar/Tech Crunch party anyone? I'm not sure if tickets are still available, but if they are, I would highly recommend going. You'll meet the people behind the Sugar franchise whilst sipping cocktails, flirting with hot geeks, juggling goodie bags and taking pictures. Well, at least that's what I'll be doing.

Madden Love

Xs and Os to: The Blonde for everything, but mostly because when I'm with her, I don't need a mirror :P, Jen from Mahalo Fashion for all the support and sweet comments, Because I'm Addicted because, well, she's addicted and she has an amazing blog, ChiliLady because her style is gorgeous & she's linked.

After indulging in uh... libations all week, I have decided to take the Saturday night off. I did something more productive with my time and played with PhotoShop. Enjoy the next few outfits/looks and feel free to comment. I enjoy constructive criticism.

This little look was inspired by the skirt, obvi. My mom brought it home from Old Country last June.

New shoes, new scarf. These sandals were $10! I had to have them. Mind you, they kill my poor little feet like none other, but what can you really expect with such a great deal? Also, these ginormous sunglasses are not mine.

I bought a membership to LACMA. Pretty exciting as I've been a pseudo-art freak since my return from New York. Hopefully I'll utilize it this weekend.
Also this weekend: UCLA plays Memphis in the West vs. South Final Four game of the NCAA basketball tournament. GO BRUINS!
