30 Hour LAN Update

The 30 hour LAN in January will not have the Lord of the Rings Trilogy screened. This would have cost us $340 in copyright screening fees.

Anybody who wants to watch the whole thing can talk to me - we may have a private screening at my house over the Christmas break (big screen, surround sound comfortable chairs)

I'm thinking about shifting the date to the 20-21 Jan for personal reasons - does anybody have any objections?

Costs
We will have two different prices. Come for $15 - pizza included Saturday night - all other meals your cost.

Come for $35 all meals included. BBQ Dinner Friday night, midnight snack, Breakfast (McDonalds) Saturday morning, sandwiches and cake Saturday lunch - all inclusive.

2005 Grand Final Draw

Reminder that the Finals Day of Raw War 2005 will be 26th November. Copy of the draw is attached. If you are listed in the draw and would like a chance of making the Grand Final, then you need to register to Wayne or Tim before the day.

The Individual UT Competition has been postponed due to low registration (at this time of year, who can blame everyone for being busy). We've decided to hold it on Saturday 14th January (at the end of the 30-hour Lan). If you wish to register, please email krostech@krostech.biz. It will be a groups-of-6 qualifying round, with 4 or 5 rounds of 1-on-1 deathmatch until we reach the last 2 players who will play off for the title of Grand Master.

Round 8/4 Results

Results
The LAN on 29th October held Round 8 of the Top Gun trophy individual tournament and Round 4 of the pairs tournament for RAW WAR 2005.
The scores have really settled down to identify the top teams in each genre.
Well done to the pairs of Bosom Buddy /Redback and Gunner / Viper for tying the UT2004 table, Elnaria / Enigma for smashing us all at Rise Of Nations with Nightshade / Strider 2nd, and Bosom Buddy / Redback driving Insane with Rochie / Stretch a close 2nd.

Grand Final
The Grand Final on 26th November will be for the pairs tournament only.
I will post the format for this next. You will need to make sure you register for this well in advance so we can have the draw sorted in time. This is your chance to rise above the rankings from the last few months and go for gold!
Prizes on offer include software, gift vouchers and more.

2006 30 hour LAN

There will be a 30 hour LAN 13th and 14th January 2006.
Starting 6PM Friday the 13th and going to Midnight Saturday 14th.

We will run a screening of the entire extended version of the Lord of the Rings Trilogy - 13 hours. It will start at 7pm Friday the 13th and finish around 8am Saturday morning.

If you want to come for this alone - on the big screen with surround sound and in comfortable armchairs - then it is free. There will be meals and drinks available as well for a small cost.

We will also be patching the games for 2006 RAW WAR and playing lots of games.

Prices will be posted soon.

Question. Would you prefer to pay an all inclusive fee and be fed for the entire event - dinner Friday, breakfast lunch and dinner Saturday with proper meals, or pay the normal $15 and get pizza on Saturday only and the rest is up to you?

Round 7 /3 Results

Results
The LAN on 1st October held Round 7 of the Top Gun trophy individual tournament and Round 3 of the pairs tournament for RAW WAR 2005.
Currently the scores are a little distorted by the fact some teams have only played teams that they have easily beaten or been beaten by. This will change as the draw works its way out for the remainder of the year so for those who appear at the bottom of the table - take heart!. To those at the top - watch out!

Remaining Rounds
There is one round left to go on 29th October. This will be the final for the Top Gun - You will need a HUGE score to take out Nightshade who is comfortably in 1st place. The battle for second place will be tough with last years winner Gunner only a few points behind Penguin Boy.

Grand Final

Next LAN 1st October

The next LAN is on the 1st October - Midday to Midnight at 90 Frances Road Lawnton.

We will have the XBox network setup again for those who want to play. Bring your XBox and Halo2 if you have a copy.

It will be a full RAW WAR round with tournament playing from 5:30 kicking off with the individual UT2004 deathmatch for Top Gun.
Pizza will be served at 6:30.
Teams Tournament starts 7:00.

Don't forget to register for the tournament by Midnight Friday 30 September. Late entries may not be able to play in the tournament.

LAN News from September 3rd 2005

We had a great social LAN playing UT2004 for 2 maps only, BF2, Far Cry was hammered, V8 Supercars 2, and more.

Lukas won himself an Asus NVIDIA Extreme N6200TC Pci Express 256Mb Video card.

Looking forward to the next LAN on 1st October (not the last Saturday in September as I thought). It will be the next round of the RAW WAR 2005 Tournament.

Also we have now locked in the dates for the rest of the year 29th October and 26th November. More details on the special things happening later.

The next LAN will be a social LAN with free play from Midday to Midnight.
We will be playing amongst other games;

and many more.

We will also have an x-box network with Halo2 running. If you can get hold of an x-box and a copy of Halo2 please bring them along with a TV to the LAN.

Round 6 / 2 Results

The LAN on 6th August held Round 6 of the Top Gun trophy individual tournament and Round 2 of the pairs tournament for RAW WAR 2005.

Top gun results
Remember you have to play at least two top gun events for your score to count. All scores are average scores over every 20 minute deathmatch played. Players who have played only once have had their score divided by 2. These results will be removed for final calculation at year end. It looks like Gunner might find it difficult keeping the trophy this year!

Pairs need to register for each tournment in advance so that the draw for the night can be calculated.
This last LAN there were seven 10 minute Capture The Flag rounds of UT2004, one 90 minute round of Rise Of Nations and 3 Insane Racing Return The Flag maps.

August Lan Timetable

Additionally there are some new security practices at church that we need to adhere to. There will be a single sign in and sign out sheet to be used for the LAN from now on replacing the little forms we had previously. You will need to sign this BEFORE bringing your gear into the building, and sign out when you leave. This is for emergency purposes so that we have an up to date list of who is on site at all times should any accidents or emergencies ever happen.

Additionally you will need to sign - once only - a new indemnity form. This will be available at each LAN from now on but once you have signed one you won't need to sign again.

Don't forget to register for your $2 discount, and your team for the tournament. Nominate a partner if you have one or request Wayne to allocate you to a team. Remember we cannot take team registrations after Friday night 5th August. If you just turn up to the LAN you may not be able to play in the tournament.

Important change to the previous timetable
The Top Gun Individual Deathmatch will now be held at 5:30PM.
Make sure you are in UT2004 and ready to go by 5:30 - we wont be waiting for people. Last months massacre was a very intesne 20 minutes.

Battlefield 2 and First To Fight

Battlefield 2 and First 2 Fight are 2 new games we have been testing as games suitable for next year. I think that BF2 may need to be out due to the hardware requirements that excludes Geforce 4 cards and need some pretty good specs, maybe limiting those with lower end boxes.
However First to Fight has some great multiplayer options that we need to "test" some more!
For the Battlefield 2 fans there are lots of websites out there like these:
TotalBF2 shows all the ranks and how to get them.
Ausgamers have plenty of forums and other information.
And of course Internode my ISP provide ranked servers and files - free gaming and downloads to node customers.
Planet Battlefield provides community forums and more.

From now on (July 2nd) it will be teams of two, and possibly 4 in some games. Make sure you have a partner, and if you don't we will assign you one.
We want to get back to good team gaming rather than all out slug fests, fun though they can be.
If you already come in a team then you will need to work out who you are going to play with. If you usually come on your own, but have a preference who you team with then please let us know when you register.

Please register your team - you and your partner - so we can set the tournament up beforehand as much as possible. You wil also get to come for $10 instead of $12.

We will continue with the same three games, Rise Of Nations, UT2004 and Insane Racing. Wayne will advise server settings on the night.

Don't forget if you want to come early we are open from midday and will be playing Far Cry, Battlefield 2 Demo, and possibly Brothers in Arms Road to Hill 30.

RAW WAR 2005 Round 4 Results

Round 4 results sees Bosom Buddy's team out in front. This will be the last round of a two team format.

Don't forget to play in our UT2004 deathmatch individual game competing for the top gun prize. Last year it was a new 128mb video card. This year will be something spectacular! - stay tuned. Droll currently leads this contest which is scored on your average score from every round you play with a minimum of 2 rounds to qualify.

Round 3 Results

Round 3 saw some confusion with the new 3 team format, especially since one whole team didn't show.
We have decided to combine the two weaker teams into the two stronger teams creating a two team competition.
So Droll's team will all combine with Bosom Buddy and Elnarias team will all combine with NEUROTech's s Team. The exception will be Elnaria who will play for Bosom buddy from now on.
We have calculated the scores from Round 3 on this basis. All previous team scores for Elnaria and Droll were added to Neurotech and Bosum Buddy with the result that both teams ended up on 54 points each (what a fluke).

Individual deathmatch for Top Gun proves to be a hotly contested 20 minutes with Droll currently in first place with an average kill of 47.33. Remember you have to play at least twice to participate.

Next LAN - RAW WAR Round 3
We will run RAW WAR this weekend (7th May) even though Wayne isn't going to be there as we have advertised that.

Elnaria's team has merged as follows. Joel is going into Droll's team, all other players who have been placed in Elnaria's team will be picked up by the other teams as appropriate.

We have changed the scoring format and as we have only got 3 teams for the rest of the year the first two rounds will not count toward the end of the year. However they were fun and well played and the results stand on their own!

Check the new scoring rules.

The LAN was awesome for the first tournament of the year. After the initial teething problems with patching people to the same versions of the games we had a real ball. Can't wait til next month!
With 4 teams the RAW WAR format is going to be exciting all year.

RAW WAR
We are playing UT2004, Rise Of Nations and Insane Racing. Kick off at 7PM sharp after Pizza.
If you haven't got them installed or patched to the versions we are using then please be there by 3PM at the latest. This way we avoid a bottle neck around 5-6PM as people all want to patch at once.
If you have an external USB drive then bring it - makes it a way lot easier!

30 Hour LAN results

A fantastic 30 hours of gaming.
Most played game would have to have been Unreal Tournament 2004.
Need For Speed Underground 2 and V8 Super cars proved popular as well as Warhammer 40K Dawn of War.
Rise of Nations never got off the ground due to version conflicts. We will resolve this issue before the RAW WAR tournaments start. In the mean time practice, practice, practice...

The small room and the heat were a issue - thanks guys and girls for not complaining. We will be back in the main hall for the rest of the year with the breeze and fans!

Thanks also to everybody who stayed back and helped pack up. That was much appreciated and meant we left just over an hour after the network was shutdown. Its your effort and willingness to help that makes it a great place to be.

The calendar for next year will be posted shortly. Most of the dates are set - we are just trying to work out if we can do one in February as well. Email krostech if you want to play again before 6th March.

Final details for 30 Hour LAN 14-15 Jan 2005

The upcoming 30 hour LAN is looking good. - there are already over 20 people registered to come.
There have been enough requests for Warcraft to play a modified tournament on Friday night. There will be some prizes. Individual games not team games. We will kick it off around 8pm.

Saturday night we will run in the normal RAW WAR format - though this is not an official WAR RAW round. However we will be playing some of the games for RAW WAR 2005.
Format for Saturday night is:
Pizza 6:30, Rise of nations tournament 7-10, UT2004 10-11:30
$12 for Saturday night only, $15 for the whole LAN and $2 discount for entry with a discount voucher - how do you get that? by registering!
