Okay, let me preface that with a disclaimer: there are many worse places I could be, even in district, and I've actually been pretty fortunate so far with teachers and what have you. That said, school sucks. I'm mad at them because they have blocked all blog websites on their Websense account, so nothing can be accessed from school. Not a big deal if you can just go home and blog. Grumble, grumble. Anyway, that's the reason I haven't posted in a million years. It just got harder.

On the plus side, I decided that if I get a job soon, I'll get my license. I'm very tired of mooching rides off people, and it would just be sad to be 18 without a license, still bumming rides from family and friends. Hollywood Video seems to be a strong prospect--I'll know more in a few days. After having a job for 8 months, being unemployed isn't sitting well with me. It will be worse when school gets out. It will be very good if I can get a new job before I get my final paycheck from my old job. :) I'm an optimist, what can I say.

I leave for Yellowstone on July 2. If I get the job, I think I'll have to tell them I'm going on a college trip for a week. I don't think they'd give me time off to go sit in a van with 10 girls for a week--as much as a party as that sounds like. Actually it should be fun, assuming I don't kill any of them before we get back. We'll see.

I'm actually at the Youth Legislature session right now. I'm in the Governor's Office with nothing to do. The schedule is set, the bills are covered, the press is happy, the constituents have their meetings, and I'm left with little to do. Once debate gets going I'll go down to the House and Senate to get some firsthand info on bills the Governor supports for the afternoon press release. Joe really liked my morning press release, which makes me happy, but I still don't have much to fill the gaps. Crap! I just remembered a gap, actually. I have to go chat with the Secretary of State about a bill from a first year in my delegation. It got into the House and I need to check on it.

Sorry you couldn't make it, Nathan.

And Brian, the situation wasn't akward at all, odd as that might sound.

Okay, I hope you have all seen the movies Saved and Saw. Oh good Lord, they were amazing. Most people's big problem with Saw is that it wasn't that scary, which is true, but it's really unsettling and clever. Saved is clever and hilarious, very witty. Highly recommended.

Life is going good right now. Sometimes you need to step back and look at your life just to appreciate what you really have. I'm so lucky to be able to do the things that make me happy, and I am so blessed with some really awesome people in my life. So what if I'm insanely busy. I thrive on that anyway.

Aside from massive Youth Legislature preparations and trying to pull an entire Literary Magazine publication together pretty much by myself, that's been my month. It was interesting and very confusing at times. How was yours?

I'm actually at my Grandma's house right now. My uncle just finished his tour in Afghanistan and he brought his family out for a visit for the first time since my cousin was born, and he's nearly 4 now. So adorable. I should get back to visiting, but I'm still tired from Leadership Training last weekend (my week was so busy I couldn't really catch up on the sleep I missed) so I wasn't that into the conversations, so I decided I'd brief you nice people.

Back from the dead

This last month or so has been beyond insane. Even for me. So I'm back with a new format (got way too sick of looking at those stupid dots, time for a change) with some updates.

By the by, I did bomb my Chemistry final. I wound up with a C for my final grade, which sucks, but it could have been a lot worse. I'll do better this semester.

I'm hosting for Homework Helpline on Thursdays now, still tutoring on Tuesdays. It's fun, and all of it has really piqued my interest in broadcasting. I just wish I could work more. We only have shows three days a week, so there's really no opportunity for expansion, so I guess I'll just have to deal.

Nathan, good to see you at Knowledge Bowl. Sorry I was so spastic, I didn't even think to ask how your sister's team did. It was the end of a very long week and a stressful morning. I hope she did better than we did--we missed the wild card spot by like a point.

I'm pretty pumped right now because I just got an email from Guvna Joe and I got the position I was hoping for in the Governor's Cabinet--Criminal Justice & Sentencing committee supervisor and Press Relations Secretary. On Homework Helpline, tutors are supposed to work one night a week. I work two nights a week already, and my boss is trying to get me on the third night (there are only three shows per week). Also, first year tutors aren't supposed to be hosts, and I've already auditioned, and my boss is toying with the idea of doing a two-host thing so I get to be a host this year. That makes me feel very special. I really love working there. It's nice to be good at something and not resented for it.

Finals sucked. I'm 99.9% sure I bombed the chemistry test (the 0.01% being an allowance for an act of God, not any legitimate hope). I've been trying not to think about how that affects my GPA, ergo my future. It's too depressing.

Mock Legislature this Saturday. My delegation is going to be making a truly pathetic showing due to shedule conflicts (a band workshop, district swim meet, and several people couldn't get their work schedules changed). Also depressing. I'm sort of stressing over my speeches for Secretary of State and Committee Chair, and I have to get my resume finished for the Governor's Cabinet. And to top it off, I lost my voice with the cold I've had for the last week, and it still hasn't come back fully.

On the plus side, Mom made cookies for the first time in who knows how long, so that's nice. Very tasty.

Open to ideas: creative ways to make my cousin suffer for her skipping ways. If I can't think of anything especially entertaining, I can always just tell her parents, but I feel I can be more effective myself. I just hope I don't get carried away...*evil laughter*

Three day weekend. That was 72 hours of me-time. I was going to go to the library to work on my Youth Legislature bill (which needs to be done by Thursday) on Saturday, but everything was frozen over and the library was closed. The best part: of the 72 hours, I slept for 36 of them. I am sooo unbelievably happy. That's like two weeks worth of sleep right there. I slept for 14 hours on Friday alone. Basically all I did was eat, sleep, read, and workout (which I of course overdid it on because I feel like I accomplished something when I'm sore the next day).

I finally have a working printer. It's one of those 3 in one deals with a printer, scanner and fax. Not that I can use the fax (still no internet, and I don't know if I can hook up a fax without it or a seperate phone line), but I'm pretty happy about it. I used the scanner to scan some of my pictures, which I'll try to post in a minute. Actually, I'll go do that now. I only have 5 minutes til I have to go to history class (I finished my assignment in Digital Filmmaking way early, so I've been dinking around on the computer for most of the period).

I'm at work. Well, I guess you can call it work-- they pay me, but I don't do that much. All my presentations are done (I work at Homework Helpline) and now I'm just trying to catch up on my web activities.

Okay, how crazy am I: I may become Mrs. Gammage's after-school TA. Yet another activity. Like I need that. But she really needs help, and I'm pretty sure I can fit it in okay. She knows my schedule, so I'd only have to come in once or twice a week and I'd get a regular credit. That's too much to resist.

I'm watching my cousin like a hawk. I discovered she's failing freshman year, so I've threatened to essentially collapse her social world if she doesn't undergo an almost religious conversion with her work.

Just wanted to say Happy (insert holiday of your choice) and a Happy New Year!

Shout out to my cousin who is letting me use her computer to update my internet whatnot.

Can't think of anything else to say right now...

MY LIFE IS INSANE!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't think I've sat still for more than half an hour at a stretch in the last 3 days.... My schedule is all funky. Oftentimes I have meetings before school, and the ones after go until after the library closes, so my computer time is pretty minimal. I'm using a friend's now.

I gave blood. I almost passed out, which was strange, since I was just sitting at the snack table at the time and had been for almost ten minutes. Plus I got this really odd and huge bruise on my arm for my troubles. Seriously it takes up most of my elbow. It's interesting. On the positive side, it's essentially a free hall pass whenever I get bored in class. I just ask to see the nurse and show them my massive contusion and the teacher gets so worried they practically kick me out of class--strange medical phenomena make people really uncomfortable.

I'm trying to put together a Battle of the Bands as a fundraiser for Youth Legislature. It should be pretty cool, I just have to convince the principals to let us do it in the auditorium.

Has anybody seen the movie The Experiment? I just watched it last night, and it was extremely good. I've been messing around with screenwriting and that movie puts all my efforts to shame. It's a German movie, so if you don't speak German and can't deal with subtitles, don't see it, but you'll be missing out.

I also saw the Pianist last night. Also very good, but in a completely different way from The Experiment.

Alicia, Erica, Brandon and I went to Boppin' Bo's yesterday. Brian, you should have called us back! It was fun. It's a 50's style diner with lots of posters and whatnot on the walls (lots of James Dean for Alicia, and plenty of Sinatra for me!). Then we wandered Target and Gamestop, where I schooled everyone on Dance Dance Revolution. Good times.

I. Surprisingly, I'm not really nervous. I know what I'm doing, I've done it a hundred times, I'll be fine. Although Anthony has been cutting off a couple of my lines lately, so I'm a little concerned about that, but it's not a big deal. It seems like a bad sign that on opening night I damage my toe. It was really stupid: I was opening the door for my friend, and it just opened right over my toe, bending back the nail about halfway. The dance numbers will be interesting. I hope I don't bleed on my tights...

We had the day off yesterday and I still spent the day at school. That's okay, since I was hanging out with that lighting guy (that one I mentioned, Brian). Fun, fun, fun. I hated hearing the bells on my day off, though.

I'm going to go home and try and take a nap and care for my toe. I'll probably tape it up or something. Hey, I forgot to eat today. I should probably go remedy that.

Happy (slightly belated) Halloween! I hope you guys had more fun than I did. I was home with a wicked sore throat and a head cold, alternately curling up on the couch (neglecting my homework yet again), and handing out candy to trick-or-treaters. Then Carissa, Derek, Jason, and Amanda came by to trick-or-treat and dragged me out with them. They got bored three houses later I was dragged back to Carissa's house to watch the Simpsons and lame yet hilarious internet cartoons. Good stuff.

Outdoor school was....er...a challenge, shall we say. Last year it was a huge blast. I had little angels for both groups. It rocked. This year I had very difficult boys, and a counselor assigned to work with me that only made my job harder. He would distract the boys at every opportunity and was incapable of discipline--he claimed they wouldn't listen to him (and it's your job to MAKE them listen--you're a counselor!!!) Grrr..... Oh well, it was a nice change from school. The director was such a baby about me missing two rehearsals. She even gave me permission a month ago, told the ADs to write it down, I sent her a reminder, and she was still pouting when I got back. She's very difficult.

There was a College Fair field trip today for juniors and seniors. It was very interesting. I would love to go to Barnard. They have a variety of interesting fields of study, and fantastic internship programs. When the lady at the table mentioned Miramax and Conan O'Brien, I was sold. It would make me very happy to be an intern for Conan O'Brien. The catch is that tuition is around $25,000 per year. That's a tough one. University of Rochester seemed really good as well, although a tad pricey. A good, solid safety school is Evergreen State College. Low tuition (less than $4,000) with lots of scholarships and good fields of study, flexible academic plans and reasonable (maybe too easy) entrance requirements. It seems too good to be true, actually. If anybody has heard of it, let me know. I keep waiting for some dire flaw to surface.

What's funny is I could score a 500 total on my SATs and still be eligible for Eastern Washington University. Hehehehe.... They have a funny system.

And University of Portland was there, Nathan. I didn't realize it was a Catholic school. That would be the difference between it and PSU. I wouldn't be crazy about abbreviating my school as UP--what do you guys use?

Gotta run off to rehearsal now.

'Nutha quick update. I'm so cool, I can use cool slang and stuff!

Naturally Flogging Molly was awesome. So were Street Dogs, one of the opening bands. The Briggs, the first opening band, sucked. Lame punk guy taking off his shirt to show off his
lame-yet-numerous tatoos. 'Nuff said (cool slang!). The mosh pit got pretty crazy. I had originally intended to stay out of it to stick close to Miranda--no offense, dude, but you are way to small to enter a mosh pit safely--but I got sucked in anyway. My feet got soo bruised up trying to keep people away, and actually bouncing them away hurt rather a lot. Things calmed down when Flogging Molly finally came out, strangely enough. Surprisingly little drug use, but I did meet a nice guy who was ever so slightly drunk. He switched spots with me when I had Miranda on my back so she could see better. He stuck pretty close for the rest of the night. Again, nice guy.

Speaking of Miranda, I met another of the guys she deems "HOT". Best described as stoners with slight birth defects. I've been meaning to post that description for like a month, actually.

Gotta run now. Outdoor School counselor. I don't have time to be sick right now, not until after the show is over. I will, however, spend my weekend resting, eating healthy food, and drinking lots of fluids. Not because I'm sick, no, no.

I'm not sure how much resting I'll really have time to do with all the homework I need to tackle.

Yesterday we had Youth Legislature elections. I ran for President, and I felt pretty good about my speech (I wrote it and re-wrote it six times since last year, and I still made changes when I got up there). Today they announced I won, which I felt more relieved about than happy, since I don't think I'd be happy just participating and not leading. And it's going to be a lot more work, not that I mind. I was satisfied. That is, until I talked to Soren. I went over to talk to him in third period, not even thinking about Youth Leg., and the first words out of his mouth are "You didn't win." WTF? Apparently he'd talked to some people who felt like the election had been rigged. I asked who, and every single name he gave me was one of the people who lost, and he felt like the guy who was a bass player (like him) should have won. That's irritating. We need solidarity. However, I will talk to Mr. Allen and see if there's some way there could have been an error. I don't want something I didn't earn.

I am exhausted. I'm going home to crash, which I can do because all my activities moved off of Fridays, so I could theoretically go straight home after school. That's too weird, though, so I decided I'd talk to you fine people for a little while.

Okay, I have to run off to rehearsal in about two minutes, so my little update will be breif.

That and I can't stand the light rock they play in the computer lab.

First, I got the job at Homework Helpline. Which means this week I'm out until after 8 at night, and 8 on Thursdays from now on. Whatever. I get paid, so it's all good.

It's a little funny. It seems like every time I go to have a conversation with someone, they interject with, "Oh, yeah, I read that on your blog." Maybe I should update less or something... Yeah, that's happening. I like ranting too much.

But I watched one of the movies I rented. I watched bits and pieces of Romeo and Juliet, but I watched Nora all the way through. Let me just say that when that little ratings thing says explicit content, it means it!!! OMG, that was the single dirtiest thing I've seen in my entire life. I'm SOOOO glad I didn't get Velvet Goldmine, which everybody agrees is like a million times worse (and with a dude, occasionally). I don't want to watch anybody doing that, not even Ewan McGregor. Woah. Aren't you glad I shared.

On that chipper little note, I leave.

EXUENT!!

I am so soaked. I decided to go for a walk in the rain, because if I waited for it to be dry, I'd never go for walks. Plus I had some free coupons I wanted to use over at Hollywood Video. Two I used for R-rated Ewan McGregor flicks I've been dying to see and am finally old enough to rent. Rogue Trader and Nora.

The third movie is the 1969 version of Romeo and Juliet. I'm not the biggest fan of this particular version, and clearly the guy at the counter wasn't either. He gave me a lot of crap for renting that edition. I need that one because I need to base my character in the play on Juliet, and that Juliet was exactly what I need. Being the damsel in distress is a lot harder than it looks. I've discovered that although I'm a romantic at times, I really have none of that character in me, so it's hard to know how to play it. So I'm taking the most prime example of the melodramatic damsel from Juliet. Hopefully I can figure this out.

We started rehearsing the dance numbers yesterday. It was so ridiculous, but that was the point, so I don't really mind. I almost don't want my friends to come and see it, though, since it's going to be extremely embarrassing. If any of you need any more enticement to come than that, let me know and I'll show you part of my number. "Babyface", "Wild About Harry", and "Bill Baily (Won't You Come Home)". 'Nuff said.

This post is short because I need to spend most of my time designing and posting info on the bulletin board I'm putting together for Youth Legislature. I can't wait until elections so I can stop stressing so much. At least until officer swaps with Heritage...

Just saw a thing on the blogger page. It suggested asking readers to request three pictures they'd like to see posted on my blog (things around the house, people, whatever). Sounds interesting. Feel free to request, but I warn you, my life isn't that interesting. Which you know if you read my blog.

I HAVE BEEN SO BUSY!! As I mentioned, I got into the play. That's three-hour rehearsals four days a week, plus after school clubs five days a week. Soon it will be plus tutoring whenever that's scheduled (probably one or two days a week), plus Homework Helpline three days a week after my three hour rehearsal. I'm not sure I'll have time for that. If I do take the job, I won't get home until 8:00 three nights a week, which doesn't leave much time for homework. Or sanity.

Now that I'm done complaining--I'm having a blast with the play. At first I was disappointed. The first half of the show is jokes and skits, where I only have three jokes. Of those three I only have lines in two, and a punchline in one, so I was bored for that whole rehearsal time. I'm okay with have a little less time on stage at first for two reasons: One, I remembered about the group songs and dances I'll still be on for, and two, I have a good part in the second half. That's the melodrama, and what a melodrama it is. My character's name is Heather Heartthrob, then there's Alex Adonis, Rufus Bilge (the villain), and Steamboat Billy, if that gives you an idea of how goofy it is. I was disappointed about my role here, too, at first, then I read the script. I had wanted to be either Sadie Larue (sort of the villain's henchwoman) or Captain Lucy (because I thought she'd have a bigger part--sounds greedy, I guess, but I'm an actress, I want spotlight). As it turns out, Heather is not only on stage for almost the whole show, but I have two guys in love with me (the hero and the villain, and they say the nicest things), some pretty good lines, and a beautiful costume. You can't knock that, vain as it might sound.

Aside from the onstage fun, I'm happy about the cast. I can now stand a girl who's gotten under my skin for no good reason since freshman year. She still does terrible dialects, but thankfully she got a role that doesn't call for one. And she's pretty good, so I respect her more now. She was terrible in last year's fall play.

Shows start November 7, so all you people reading this that live around here will be forced to come.

Let's see if I can think of something somebody else might care about.......Yes! The debates!

I watched it by myself, annoyingly enough, because I commented frequently to no one. I'm going to try and work something out through Youth Legislature to have a big group watch the next one on October 13. Maybe a fundraiser?

I must say that Bush surprised me. He was uncharacteristically eloquent--I think they did some vocab drills in rehearsal, because he used some words that in his entire presidency, I've never heard him say before.

More later--my computer time is running out.

I got into the play! YEAH!!! That rocks!! I'm not impressed with the director, but it's a play, and I can learn something. It's going to murder keeping up with the schedule though. It starts an hour after school ends, so I still have time for my clubs. I think I'm trying to kill myself subconsiously with this.

Gotta run--my library time is going to expire in a few seconds.

Okay, it's once again been a while since I've posted, so I want to update the boring events of my so called life. I will, however, attempt to keep it breif.

I'm seventeen now. Rock on. I got a digital camera for my birthday, which is way too much fun. I killed the batteries that came with it on the first day, so I just went out and bought a bunch of good batteries so I can play some more. I'm going to try and post some pics on my blog sometime, but I don't know when I'll have time.

I'm getting all my clubs started up. Poor Mr. Allen--he just can't say no. He's doing three clubs, Master's program (I think), and some sort of associate principal thing. He's like me, in teacher form. Oh well, Youth Legislature should be fun. That reminds me, I need to email the program coordinater to see how I can get my Y&G buddies who are no longer in the program, strictly speaking, to be allowed to come on the trip. I have so many calls to make....

Dr. Briddon, the AP European History teacher, is actually English, so I'm going to have an awesome accent by the end of the year. That's so fun.

I tried to take a picture of a guy cleaning the McDonald's sign. Just for kicks and giggles, but my camera was being weird and didn't work, so when I set it down to see what was wrong it took a picture of my leg. Funky. It was so strange I'm not sure I want to delete it yet.

OH YEAH!!! Before I went to the library I was up at Safeway, and when I bought my batteries, I got two quarters as part of my change, which I then HAD to use in the claw machine. I haven't won in years, but I used to be extremely good at it. I WON A WATCH!! YAY!! That rocks so hard. It's cheap and crappy, but kinda cute. That made my day.

And, finally, I'm thinking about arranging a reunion for my 5/6 split Excel class, since the former sixth graders are graduating this year. It's a pretty big time commitment, I know, so I'm sort of putting it off, but I've been running into a lot of old classmates recently and I'll probably make them help me.

Hope it wasn't torturously long. I'm off to do homework.

Quick post

Sore again. I carried my mountain bike for about a mile. Trust me, it's tough to find a good way to carry a bike that size. I had to do it, I didn't just decide to random carry my bike, although that probably wouldn't surprise anybody too violently. My tire went suddenly and extremely flat, and began coming apart. It wouldn't even roll. I was halfway between Grandma's house and mine, so I just carried it the rest of the way. Probably could have called for a ride, but then I wouldn't know for sure I could carry my bike for a mile! That's quite a birthday present, isn't it?

Finished my Great Gatsby report. It's pretty good--both the book and the report. Now I still need to bs some notes on another book. I'm just going to cop out and use poetry instead of a real book, because my teacher foolishly forgot to specify a quantity!! Mwahahaha!!

School starts tomorrow. I am sooo sore.... I went to Wild Waves up in Tacoma yesterday. Aside from hiking up stairs all day, I went on the River Thunder ride 13 times. It's not really a ride, you go down on an innertube and it's like a river...sort of... You really have to fight the current in places, anyway. Enough to make me sore today. I was so tired when I got home around 9, I wanted to go straight to bed and I probably would have if I didn't want to watch Conan. I think I'll have to sacrifice it tonight because I'm still beat.

To top it off, I slept through Freshman Orientation this morning, which I was supposed to be helping with. Oops. On the plus side, I'm only sunburned a little bit in a few places, and for the first time I have a tan on my tummy! Yeah, I'm sure you cared.

I just watched Tomorrow Never Dies on TV. Aside from the obvious, like car washes and bake sales, which I will also suggest. My favorite at the moment is a talent show. It would be a lot of fun to plan and put on, but I'm not sure whether I should have the acts be anyone who auditions or just use Youth Legislature kids (which is what the ideas are focused on right now). It would be easier keeping it within the club, but we'd draw a larger crowd and probably make more money if we used everyone, so we'll probably do that. Either way, I'll probably audition, but I'm not sure what I'll sing yet. I'd like to do some crazier things, like flag pole sitting contests and rocking chair derbies. You know, the psychotic crap they did for fun in the twenties.

I think I'm going to try and write a book of sorts. I mentioned I had started to record ideas for posts at home, and that they were growing fast. Too fast, in fact. The file is nearly thirty pages long, single spaced, ten-point font. That's less than two months of random thoughts. With some minor alterations, I think I might be able to get it published. With some names changed to protect, well, me. I was thinking I could keep it up for a year, and I'd have a decent sized manuscript. They could promote it as a look into the crazy teenage mind. It could work. Maybe...

I wish I had cable. I've said this many times, I know, but I really only want a few channels. History, FX, Discovery, Cinemax, HBO, Bravo, BBC America, maybe CNN and/or C-Span, A&E, and Turner Classic Movies. The last one is the one I really want today. Apparently they're having another Cary Grant day. I absolutely love Cary Grant, and my friend Jessica knows this, which is why she called to inform me. I'm not sure she realized that she was just taunting me with the knowledge that a bunch of movies I've really wanted to see were being aired where I couldn't watch them. And she called me when they were playing North By Northwest, which is widely considered one of, if not the, best movies from both Cary Grant and Alfred Hitchcock (who is also really cool, by the way). She wasn't even watching it, because Roswell was on. For some inexplicable reason she loves that crappy teen soap. No taste, my friend, none at all.
