Ebro Madness

Recently Danny offered a cheap deal to 2 lucky anglers & their wives to come over to Spain for a test run in the new swim.

Terry & Nick both self aclaimed novice Carp anglers had been on a non productive Ebro trip before, dumped in a swim, no boat or guide and left to catch nothing for an entire week. That kind of thing doesn't happen with FAT.

Their swim was pre-baited and ready to go for when they arrived. The shock on Terry's face when the first fish he landed was a 38lb common and the week just kept getting better from there!

The lads went on to land 66 carp for the week, both smashing their pb's many times. Alot of 30's fell to our rods but the highlight of the week was Nicks enormous Catfish which he done us all proud by fighting it for nearly an hour on Carp tackle and going on to land his new massive PB of 172 lbs ... not bad on 20lb mono !

The girls absolutely loved the acommodation, it's proximity to the swim meant they could sit by the pool sipping Sangria but when the lads got a big fish on could come down to have a look at their prize (the bacon sarnies each morning went down well too, thanks !)

Needless to say the boys will be back next year, they are booked up for another arm aching Ebro session with our Cat Man Dan ... we all look forwards to your return.

ORELLANA 54LB COMMON HIT FOR CLIENT MARK

ANOTHER ORELLANA 54LB COMMON FALLS TO FAT CLIENTS RODS AGAIN

It has been a very busy month or so here in Extremadura with many clients out with FAT .Leaving little time to give some update on what has been happening.

Once again we at Fat Angling Tours have confirmed why we are the leading guiding company here, after landing another wild monster Orellana carp.

This Wild 54lb monster was part of a great fish haul to Mark, with many other fish landed consisting of some 30lb and 20lb fish, keeping him very busy during his holiday with us.

A Week on the Sierra Brava.

This holiday came about through me flicking through the pages of a carp mag and seeing an article on fishing in Spain. I had been planning a trip abroad anyway but was undecided on where to go. There are so many venues around the world for quality carp fishing. Having been to Spain twice before I was itching to get back again for a bit of wild carp fishing. The fish there on the River Ebro had fought like demons so Spain it was but as the Ebro has apparently gone downhill a bit in recent years I choose the Extremadura Region in Spain. After a bit of research Fat Angling Tours seemed like the best company to go with in the area. A quick e-mail and we were booked for a week’s fishing starting on the 16th of September. It cost £645 each for the guiding company who provided all the tackle bar the leads and some end tackle. Airport transfers were included as was the accommodation, the food and the permits and licences. Flight cost us an extra euro 150 return for the two of us. Tom made up the leads for us.
The 16th of September could not come quickly enough. At last the day came and we packed our bags and drove up to Dublin Airport on the Friday night. We stayed in the long term car park which cost us euro52 for the week. The Ryanair flight into Madrid was on time and took us 2 ½ hours. At the airport we were met by Rod who works for Fat Angling Tours. He drove us the four hours to Sierra Brava. The view that greeted us when we arrived at the house that Fat Angling has on the bank of the Sierra Brava reservoir was amazing. The house is a rustic Spanish country villa. Along with the house there is a 4 ½km private stretch of the lake bank so its safe and secure at night.

Once we had settled in we set to work preparing the tackle. There was a Scotsman(Soapy) who would be spending the week with us. Matt from Fat Angling was on hand to show us all we needed to know. The reels were spooled up with a very tough Nash mainline in 18Lb breaking strain. Rods were 3 ¼Lb T/C ugly stick’s that preformed. Rigwise we were using 25Lb Kryston Mantis to a size 2 heavy forged Nash hook. Rigs were kept simple and strong. Leads were 3 or 4 ounce weight and attached via a standard lead clip. For Bait we were using a new 20mm boilie that Matt had made up by a friend of his. All the rest of the tackle was of top quality. I had no problems with it.
We fished for a few hours on the Saturday night but got no runs. I was down again early on the Sunday morning but still got no runs. Breakfast was delivered to the swim by Matt at around 8 o’ clock as he done every morning. We baited up that day with about 12Kg of the boilies. Just after it got dark that night I had the first run a real one toner. After a great fight I landed a cracking mid-double mirror. The fight off these fish is unbelievable. Even the small ones pull your arm off.
The next morning was quiet again with only one dropped run but this morning we saw a good few more fish topping out in front of us including a few monsters. They sounded like someone had dropped a pig out of an aeroplane. We baited up heavily again that day with maize, particles and some more boilies. That evening as we were sitting down to dinner by the bank (dinner was dropped down to the bank as well) Soapy’s pod was pulled over as a fish tore off with his hookbait. Luckily matt grabbed the rod before it was pulled in. Soapy started playing the fish while we sorted out the pod. I noticed that the line had gone very tight on his middle rod. He had had a run on his other rod. I bent into the fish and started playing it. You have to be careful when striking into the fish. The fish run so fast that if you strike too hard you will just rip the hooks out of their mouths. Cup the spool first and slow the fish before disengaging the baitrunner. Unfortunately Soapy lost his fish but I landed the other one. A cracking common of approx 16Lb. We had a bit more action after that with Soapy landing a common of 17Lb and landing her first fish of the trip at 18 ½Lb. The fish set a new P.B. for her and like all the other fish that we caught fought like a demon.

WE started getting runs regularly after that with action slowing down during the middle of the day. We also experienced a good few dropped runs. I think that this was due to small fish. I landed one common of around 2Lb. We also snagged up a few times. It is a very snaggy water. Looking out on the lake you can the tops of trees sticking out all over the water. The weather for the week was great with temperatures hitting around the 30 degrees. Sunsets and sunrises were always amazing. The water would always come alive at these times with carp jumping everywhere along with the big Black Bass that the lake holds.

For the next couple of days we received steady action with both Dee and myself receiving steady action. The fish were all in the 13Lb to 19Lb range. We lost a couple of much bigger fish. I had two fish in a row snap the 25Lb mantis hook length as I was stopping the fish from getting into the snags. WE experienced a few frustrating hook pulls too. In Soapy’s swim everything had gone quiet so Matt moved him to another swim for the last couple of days. On the Friday evening he had the biggest fish of the trip at 22Lb, just an hour or so before having to pack up.
All in all it was a great holiday. Dee and I both enjoyed it and will be going back again next May for another week. Hopefully the fish will be a bit bigger then.

FAT SUMMER NEWS UPDATE

Well all sorry for the lack of news coming from FAT over the last couple of months but we have been very busy creating new products and signing new deals with some of the leading booking agents in Holland and the UK through the summer months. I must not forget the new arrival in the FAT family of a little girl which we have named Serrena Marie. So as you could imagine lots of different alarms going off in the night out here in Extremadura at the present time.

Going back to new working relationships in Europe we are pleased to announce Hans Sissing of Carp Connections for the Benelux area now dealing with all our European bookings and the new

booking agent Anglers World who are part of the Martins Group Association as we know them one of the oldest and established agents in the UK. Martin also deals with Discovery TV fishing filming so we hope to be coming to your screens in 2010 here from Extremadura with some of those house hold names Matt hayes, John Wilson and co.

All of us at FAT are really excited and proud to be chosen for the leading company to deal with in the province of Extremadura and look forward to the future to improve on our already established carp and barbel fishing business and the offer of new great products in 2010.

The fishing has been one of the slowest in the past three years on the Orellana and Sierra Brava we have witnessed with extreme heat and low water levels and this has caused the fishing to be hard going for clients. The good news is that FAT have now set up at CASPE part of the Ebro system with Dan Sales being our guide there with a new house on the lake with swimming pool being able to run to your rods if you care to relax by the pool and drink a beer or two.

This didn't happen though the other week as are first week on there with clients with Dan showing why we have chosen to work with him with 64 carp and many cats to 178lb good angling son. Dan has been fishing the Ebro since he was 15 and knows every part of the river system like we no Extremadura.

So look out over the coming days for our new packages on the Ebro and photos on the big hit.

Also we have a new house on the Sierra Brava banks with 5k of private land with 24 hour fishing possible on the lake now the house is in one of the best areas of the lake and is exclusive to FAT so keep posted as we release the new venue package with private fishing land over the next 24 hours.

FAT ORELLANA LUMPS AND ATT ALARMS

As promised in previous Blog the Carp Diem team decided they where going to venture down to Extremadura with us here at Fat Angling Tours to try and land some lumps out of the Orellana.

They decided they wanted us to guide them as it is a long venture for the team with short time and little time to prepare a swim on the Orellana.

The lads had many fish of weights of 20lb and 30lb but had three 40lb plus commons and Raul did it again with a 53lb common. Angel and Pablo where over the moon and look forward to the curry in Madrid soon boys.

Fat Angling Tours is also pleased to announce the collaboration with ATT ALARMS and have now got the new top of the range alarms here for clients to use during there holiday with us.

SIERRA BRAVA CLEINT REPORT

Had a few days upon Sierra Brava fishing for the carp with client during the first week of June and had another good few takes with fish to Mid 30lb commons and Mirrors. The heat was blistering as a heat wave swept the province of Extremadura. Fat was happy with results considering the high temperature's and short sessions getting out the sun.

DENMARK NICKY RETURNS TO ORELLANA WITH NEW BAITS FROM HIS SPANISH BAIT COMPANY VITAL BAITS

Nicky returned this week with some sample baits from his new Spanish bait company and had awesome results from them instantly on the orellana here in extremadura.

The baits produced more than 40 takes in four days and produced another 40lb plus fish and numerous 30lb fish and plenty of 25lb plus fish mixed in with some big double figure Tench.

Most amusing of the session was me losing three rods to the orellana in the session and gaining three back in the end. Nicky also managed to hook my line on one rod to James to hand line in a cracking 38lb common but snap off the line to still leave one rod remaining.

As the session of bait testing came to another end for Nicky he managed somehow to wind in my last missing rod top angling Nick would you like a job fishing for rods.

FAT GO CZECH AT SIERRA BRAVA

Jan and the lads arrived from Czech Republic for a dabble on the Sierra Brava and managed to land a few good fish from the punishing snags end of the lake with a few lost in the snags also.

Jan and the lads where trying there own baits from there bait company back home that they own and had some nice fish from the lake in the short time here. sadly they had to leave early due to a car accident back home involving family members.

There where a few bully boy moments when they where set upon some bigger framed animals but found it very amusing as rods where a no go for a while.

BLANEY SEIRRA BRAVA 19K COMMON

Blaney and brother returned for another short session Sierra Brava trip and once again had a couple of big kippers out including this cracking 19 kilo and lost four others to hook pulls.

MYLES AND PHIL HIT SIERRA BRAVA

Myles and Phil hit the Sierra Brava and had over 40 fish between them on the mainline Active 8 and Grange baits. They baited heavily to begin with and carried on topping up as the Big fish kept coming and coming.

The lads fish came all through the day with some awesome takes stripping 100 yards of line off on the first charge for freedom.

The lads couldn't get enough of the Sierra Brava and the fish just kept coming.

The lads decided to call it a day on the Sunday morning and get back and have a shower and a beer before shooting of for a last day saloon on the orellana and try and catch one of the big kippers lurking there.

ORELLANA 50lb PLUS BIG FISH HAUL MICK AND MATT

This was one of the best orellana carp sessions our clients have ever had and for Mick returning was a dream made after his early year barbel and sierra brava bag up. As for Matthew joining him after finishing his time on Cassien wanted a new big water challenge and he certainly got that with a massive haul of carp from the Orellana.

The lads had a total of 68 runs banking only 40 of them due to the heavy weed bed that they where having to squeeze them through. This was due to the water level dropping on the Orellana very quick over the past week making conditions harder than when they had started on the swim.

The lads first five runs consisted of three 40lb plus fish and two upper 30lb fish what a start. it didn't stop here either they carried on hauling with many upper 30lb fish and another 40lb graced the net in quick time. During this time the lads had dropped good fish at the weed bed also.

This carried on at one point the lads had all six rods go off in quick concession and lost all six to there amazement. They decided then to have a bit of time out for a few hours and regroup themselves for another haul.

This started with Matt having a slow take picking up to have it double over on him. He shouted to Mick this is a big Kipper mate. As he said this Micks rod tore off and they where both into fish. Then Matt shouted mine is off with a few other choice words to go with it. He then sorted the net for Mick when Matt had seen the fish he turned to say this is a good lump mate and 50lb pus fish graced the net get in there Mick about time mate.

The lads then carried on hauling them out with a awesome upper 30lb mirror to join the haul of big fish in the session. In all the lads agreed they had lost better fish than they had netted but who is arguing with this Set of fish top angling and see you in October for the six week session for the big girls again

The clients who have joined us now on Sierra Brava are also off to a big hit at present keep posted and clients on Orellana are also hitting fish so keep posted for the next set of big fish photos.

ORELLANA RETURN FOR STEVE AND PAUL

Well it has been a massive April for Fat Angling Tours on the Orellana with some awesome big fish being caught. The return of Steve and Paul brought the house down again this time on the Orellana rather than the Sierra Brava. This year they caught 33 carp and lost 3. Paul was gutted as he believed the two that he had lost to hook pulls where big fish. The two biggest fish of 38lb to Steve and 36lb to Paul capped a last two manic days for them. With the fish feeding so hard the lads purchased some Mainline Active 8 of Alex Perrin and had there two biggest fish of the session on freshly rolled delivered to the bank bait.

The lads had many upper 20lb fish on the session and where over the moon and couldn't wait to get back next year to start there rivalry of biggest fish of the session. Enjoy cleaning Steve's car again mate LOL.

The lads fed the swim actively through their session with ample amounts of bait to keep the runs coming time and time again. The lads where amazed at the power of the carp in the Orellana to the size of them and said that they had arm ache to the maximum. Many thanks for the great company boys and cant wait for you to get back and good luck with the baby due Paul you are going to need it son.

ORELLANA DENMARK MADNESS

April has been a very productive month on the Orellana for fat with some awesome big fish being landed to our clients.

For those of you have received the Newsletter for April , you would of seen the massive 30 kilo Orellana carp with that now being followed up by these crackers from Denmark clients.

Nicky landed the biggest fish of the session with a 26 kilo common from orellana. ( seen right)

This was combined with another nine 20 kilo plus fish in the session with this beautiful orellana plated mirror carp landed by Jacob. ( seen left)

This session was started in fine form for all in the party with many fish being caught between 10 -15 kilos so much so that they just placed them straight back without photos due to the bigger fish they where landing Arghhhhhhhh.

Jacob was a little gutted due to losing a few bigger fish to shear power in not being able to turn them but was over the moon in what he had landed. Better luck next time mate see you soon by the sounds of it.

As for Ben who fished with Jacob he had a stunning 23 kilo common to make a new personal best for him. He also had many other fish in the session and had lost a whacker due to Jacob not waking up in the afternoon to help him.

The fish then began to spawn heavily through the next few days and the runs dropped off during this period.

Jacob and Ben decided to set off back on the road back to Denmark early with forthcoming baby due to Jacob, good luck there mate.

In the other swim Andreas (seen left) was happily catching fish for fun with run after run and having this lovely 20 kilo common as one of his biggest landed in the session. With Nicky already landed the monster 26 kilo common the lads where buzzing when we had visited them on different days taking a cold beer in celebration with them.

Andreas runs guiding trips himself back in Denmark and understands the work and preparation that goes into creating these results on large waters like these and was so happy with the session was planning the trip back, once again round the forth coming baby for him and working in a very busy tackle shop back home. Great company mate look forward to sharing a cold beer with you again.

Then there was Paul ( seen right) what a diamond guy with a real big water fishing knowledge. sadly for Paul he didn't manage a 20k fish but had many just under the mark hard luck mate. This trip was so phenomenal for all of the party Nicky has decided to move to Spain and Paul is also coming to take on the new Pro logic Distribution here in Spain so will be able to share many more awesome sessions with the lads on the bank catching the mosters of Orellana that we all know lurk out there waiting to have photo with one of our clients visiting.

So Paul see you in the next few weeks mate and Nicky next Friday again so pre baited swim waiting mate.

During this period we had visits from Tony Summers again who caught many fish to 29lb, still waiting on those photos along with Brenden and girlfriend.

I can also confirm Latest clients are having lots of fish to on the Orellana so lots more catch reports coming up soon.

I will also leave you on the note of James has had his biggest out of Orellana at 38lb common photo soon.

Hello all,

Well for those of you have had the latest news letter will of seen that there has been some fantastic fish out to Fat clients and Spanish Friend's. We have have now decided to create a new gallery for Spanish catches and news within our website separate to make it not misleading to future clients and other readers booking with FAT.

This is due to other companies in the area misleading clients enquiring for holidays. This has been down to information provided by recent booking clients who have looked at others here in Extremadura but have booked with us as they can see a real history and media trust. Soon you will now be able to see up to date captures here at Fat on our homepage viewer to confirm our regular untouched record of banking fish with clients.

We can also confirm that James Harrison has taken over the sales and Marketing of Fat Angling Tours to allow the rest of the team to concentrate on catching fish and keeping areas baited and at top condition for arriving clients.

We would also like to stress that there is still no night fishing here in Extremadura con trey to other information leaked in the press earlier this year by another guiding company here.

WELL IT HAS BEEN A VERY BUSY BACK END OF FEB FOR CLIENTS AND THE FAT TEAM.

WE HAVE BEEN BANKING SOME GREAT FISH FROM 40LB DOWN TO MID TWENTIES IN HARD CONDITIONS OUT THERE ON THE LAKES BUT ONCE AGAIN TEAM FAT HAVE BANKED FISH WHEN OTHERS AROUND US ARE STRUGGLING.

AS WE SPEAK WE HAVE TWO LADS ON SIERRA BRAVA HAVING 6 FISH IN THE FIRST TWELVE HOURS TO 38LB MIRROR AND 37LB COMMON WITH OTHER 20LB PLUS FISH.

WE HAVE ANOTHER THREE LADS ON ORELLANA CATCHING FISH ALSO SO FINGERS CROSSED THE FISHING STAYS ON.

THE SHOW WAS A REAL HIT AND REALLY LOOK FORWARD TO HAVING THE DUTCH BOYS OUT IN THE COMING YEAR OF 2009. WE CAN ALSO CONFIRM THE VISIT OF LEO HOOGENDIJK IN SEPTEMBER ANOTHER MAJOR ANGLER IN EUROPE COMING. ALSO Arjen Uittenbeyerse from Spiegelmagazine HOLLAND ALONG WITH THE BIG MAN PARRY AND ARNOUT AGAIN FROM KARPER MAGAZINE.

Moving on to the real business of catching fish as already said fat have been busy ever since we moved into the new year through January with clients catching fish when the weather has been against us. This has carried on with Gorden Goodwin hauling on the Dynamite and Hemp attack with 15 fish now with numerous 30lb fish and twenties. Visiting Gorden and John on the Bank today they said it is like non stop action all day long.
