Taking some time out between concerts, Britney Spears takes to the water for a family day out in Sydney Harbour.

Accompanied by boyfriend Jason Trawick (blonde hair/beard), Britney and her young sons Sean Preston (dark hair) and Jayden James (blonde hair) looked every bit the happy family as they ate al fresco on their launch.

Jason was seen doting on the boys, first playing hide and seek with Jayden on the heavily cushioned seats, before playing Superman with both boys, who took it in turns to be spun in the air by their mum's hunky beau. As the day drew to a close, Britney slipped on Jason's polo shirt to keep the chill away and the happy crowd all disembarked to head back to their hotel.

Britney Spears is in trouble again for not singing live. So what? Pop concerts are about the spectacle, not the singing

Oops! ... She did it again! Yes, Britney Spears mimed during a live show and her Australian fans weren’t happy about it. So unhappy in fact that they reportedly walked out of the gig three songs into the Perth show. Her tour promoter, Paul Dainty, denied the claims, but did concede that Spears was “aware of all of this and [was] extremely upset by it”.

But why did they leave? It seems strange when you consider that at the previous 84 dates of the worldwide, massively publicised Circus tour she has mimed through the show. The fans who walked out had presumably been cohabiting under a large rock in the months leading up to the gig.

In the midst of the brouhaha Dainty hit the nail on the head, concluding that focusing on the “mimed or not mimed” aspect of the show was missing the point. “This show is about an incredible spectacle, which it is,” he said.

Miming has always been an extremely contentious issue, with serious muso types complaining about the preponderance of prerecorded tracks during pop concerts and television performances. They value the live vocal above all else, which, in the context of a classic rock show, is understandable. But the realities of a pop concert are very different.

During these high energy, two-hour-plus shows, performers are contending with multiple dance routines, sizzling pyrotechnics and costume changes, making the likelihood of adequately recreating a studio-quality vocal near impossible. Indeed on the eve of her last tour, the Onyx Hotel tour in 2004, Spears’s manager Larry Rudolf publicly stated: “On those numbers that are difficult (if not impossible) for her to sing completely live, what we do is we’ll put a backing track which will support her.”

Did The Papers Get It Wrong About Britney's Circus?

Newspapers slammed Britney Spear's first Australian show, saying that her lip synching had driven her fans away.

So the star arrived for her first show in Melbourne under a cloud of negative press; with her Circus show firmly under scrutiny.

After she played for the first time at Rod Laver Arena last night Matt and Jo asked fans to call and tell us what it was REALLY like: did anyone walk out? Were you annoyed by her lip synching?

We were amazed that 95% of the calls we received said that Britney and her show were great.

Chrissy from Brighton said "I think it's just all the papers just making a big deal. They've been picking on her since she left the airport."

Renata from Noble Park said "I have to say I did not see one person walk out. Everyone was on their feet dancing."

Natalie from Somerville said it was "one of the best concerts I have ever been to."

Natasha, who had won a coveted Loveseat by shaving her head on the Matt & Jo show had a frontrow seat for all the action. She said "it was amazing. Not just Britney, but the other performers were amazing too."

Despite the overwhelmingly positive feedback we got from Melbourne 'The Herald Sun' is still criticising Britney; "as a dancer she's possibly the weakest link in her show."

The Rolling Stones: Britney Responds to Australia Lip-Synch Controversy, Declares Tour For Fans Not Critics

After a bout of negative reviews, Britney Spears has spoken out over the lip-synch controversy that ignited in Australia following her first two Circus tour concerts Down Under, the BBC reports. “I hear there is a lot of controversy in the media about my show,” Spears said yesterday in a statement. “Some reporters have said they love it and some don’t. I came to Australia for my fans.”

As Rolling Stone previously reported, the Aussie press claimed that concertgoers at Spears’ first two Circus shows in Perth began vacating the venue only a few songs into Spears’ set when it became apparent the singer was, in fact, miming her songs. Spears was also criticized for what reviewers deemed as a lack of engagement with the crowd, only once talking to the audience to tell them how beautiful Australia was. The controversy was amplified when the fair trade minister of New South Wales proposed marking Circus tour tickets with a disclaimer saying the show is mimed and pre-recorded.

Considering Spears’ lip-synching has been widely reported since the Circus tour kicked off in New Orleans on March 3rd, it’s surprising that Aussie fans expected the pop diva to sing. (Rolling Stone’s review of her New York show also makes note of the lip-synching.) “It’s been all over the Internet for nine months,” said Spear’s tour promotor, Paul Dainty. “This show is about an incredible spectacle, which it is.”

After a four-day break that included a fun day of shopping — “Got a lot of my Christmas presents. Melbourne is beautiful,” Spears tweeted Monday — this controversial Circus tour will resume tonight with the first of three concerts in Melbourne.

Lets start by getting one thing straight. Rebekah Devlin, who started what quickly developed into Britney-gate this week in Australia, clearly got it very, very wrong. At the Britney Spears show tonight at Rod Laver Arena, there were no mass walk-outs, there were no disgruntled fans and the audience was genuinely entertained.

Just for the record, I am not a Britney fan but ‘Circus’ is a very good show. Forget the “but she mimes” argument. It is irrelevant for Britney. She is a popstar. She has never pretended to be a serious musical act like Radiohead. She is what she is and has never denied it.

Keep in mind at parts of their shows, Cher has lip-synched, Madonna lip-synchs, even Roger Waters did it. So lets just eliminate that from the scorecard and score the Britney show for what it is … a very entertaining show aimed at her core fans.

If you are a Britney fan, you are going to love ‘Circus’. It is over two hours of escapism and yes it is a real circus. Actually, if Ms. Devlin focused on the freak show featuring the midget or an amputee on a trampoline she might have been able to beat-up a better story. Did she even notice that? Not that it mattered. It was visually compelling.

Yes, a Circus it truly is, with magicians, acrobats, a tightrope and … was that Perez Hilton dressed up as The Queen?

The costume changes are covered up with musical segways. One featured Marilyn Manson ‘Sweet Dreams’ and another Michael Jackson ‘Wanna Be Startin’ Something’.

Lets give a special shout-out to the two kids in the front row. Britney’s children Sean and Jayden watched what Mom did for a living with Mom’s new beau Jason Trawick . For the record Ms Devlin, Jayden left earlier so your headline tomorrow should read “Even Britney’s Kid Can’t Stand Her”. Sean left before the encore, so you can beat that up into a headline as well.

In Vegas, this show would be up for “show of the year”. In Perth, based on a one-woman jury, it doesn’t rate at all. Melbourne, the home of Australian theatre, accepted another good show.

Britney is more than 90 shows into a world tour with Circus. How funny that Ms Devlin wasted her 15 minutes of fame on something that has never pretended to me anything more than a pop show.

Britney Spears' The Singles Collection Hits Stores Today

From the tender age of 16, Britney Spears has been one of the biggest pop stars of her generation. She's proven that even when she's down, she can still make a comeback. On the greatest-hits compilation The Singles Collection — out Tuesday (November 9), but a deluxe version will drop November 23 — fans can revisit their favorite hits in Spears' catalog.

The album includes " ... Baby One More Time," "(You Drive Me) Crazy (The Stop Remix!)," "I'm a Slave 4 U," Toxic" and "Oops! ... I Did It Again" to name a few. The album also features her latest single, "3," the video for which premiered on her site last week.

"When I see her on set, she's extremely professional, and it's a job," video director and frequent collaborator Joseph Kahn told MTV News about working with the pop star over the years. "There's really literally no messing around. Whatever accolades she gets, she deserves."

As for her place among some of the greatest pop artists of all time, Dave Meyers, who directed Spears in videos for "Boys," Lucky" and, most recently, "Radar," shared that she's definitely vying for the Queen of Pop title with Madonna. "She kind of filled [Madonna's] shoes," Meyers said. "[But] everything is done in a Britney way. She's not Madonna, and Madonna is not Britney. It seems like Madonna made the same choices that were right for her at the time, to class her up when she had just done a sexpot video. She was riding that image train too. She was leading that image train, and I think that Britney has done that as well."

Britney Spears to be Reunited with Children in Melbourne on Tuesday!!

POP star Britney Spears will be reunited with her sons Sean Preston and Jayden James in Melbourne.

The boys were expected to arrive in Australia with their father Kevin Federline next week, but it is believed the children will arrive in Melbourne as early as Tuesday.

Spears, whose first Melbourne show will take place at Rod Laver Arena on Wednesday, is expected to take every opportunity to get out and enjoy the city with her boys.

Sean, 4, and Jayden, 3, are believed to be travelling with a nanny, while Federline remains in the US.

Federline has been filming Celebrity Fit Club in LA and is also rumoured to become a father again.

His girlfriend Victoria Prince is said to be pregnant. It would be Federline's fifth child to three different women. He is still expected to join Spears in Australia this month.

Spears spent Monday holed up at her luxury inner city hotel. Fans and media waiting for a glimpse of the star were disappointed.

Spears stayed indoors and only once popped an arm out of a window to give fans a brief wave.
