Since I'm in India, I've restored my 'old code' (Texture and Object Generator). I've seen that my old code was almost finished, so I just retouched it a little bit, and prepare to release it for distribution (source code will be soon ready!).

Some years ago I already advised how the new model of object generation is working. Instead of using a single texture, now I use what I called a Texture Library, so you can use and reuse, the same texture without any size impact (and in a more efficient way).
The actual procedure that you need to do is:

TextGen (ZNT): Create the ZNT texture(s), save to disk each texture.
TextGenLib (ZNT->ZNL): Pack all your desired textures in a single Library file.
ObjGen (ZNL->ZNO): Open a library file, and use the textures for generating the object!!

In ObjGen you can upload only one single Library file per object, but you can upload it multiple times, so you can try with different libraries, using the same object. Sounds weird, but is fun :)

Now you have the tools! are you asking for the code?? well, I've to solve some things (some code is dirty...), but if you send me a mail, I'll be pleased in give it to you :)

Llarga vida a la PS2!

Enmig de consoles de última generació i consum nadalenc desmesurat en època de crisi, ha caigut a la meves mans una PS2 que estava oblidada a un armari i m'he posat a trastejar amb ella. Al principi li he posat el de sempre, el HDLoader, un HD de 60Gb, targeta a xarxa... i al vicio!
Però al cap de uns dies, entrant per un foro vaig veure que ha sortit una meravellosa aplicació que es diu FreeMCBoot, que ve a substituir el boot de la PS2... increïble vamos! A més s'instal·la a la memory card (ocupa uns 1,6Mb) i no fa falta arrancar amb cap disc de PSX ni tenir xip, ni coses rares.
Una vegada arranca el nou boot, apareix un menú amb les opcions típiques de la PS2 (Navegador i Configurar el sistema), més totes les aplicacions adicionals que haguem instal·lat: HDLoader, uLaunchELF, ESR, etc... tot molt bonic!

Per si fos poc, corren milers de tutorials i paquets ja preparats per instal·lar amb les aplicacions més útils. Jo en destaco la uLaunchELF (per executar ELF's [inclús desde pen drive]), ESR (per jugar a jocs desde DVD-R [prèviament parxejats]), Simple Media player (un reproductor de videos!!! i de moment, bastant bo!!) i HDLoader (como no! per jugar als jocs desde el HD).
Amb aquestes aplicacions convertireu la vostra PS2 en tot un centre multimèdia (bueno, bonito y barato), i a més podreu veure demos que hagueu gravat en un PenDrive (jo per fi he vist la "Aura for Laura" en temps real! brutal!!), jugar a un porrón de jocs que hi han al mercat (Zone of Enders, Katamari, God of War, Metal Gear, Gran Turismo)...

En fi... useu el coco i reuseu el hardware! :D

La Mala llet de la gent

Últimament estic cansat de la mala llet d'algunes persones, tots amb chismorreos de "què ha dit aquesta persona", o "què a fet aquella altra", buah, no puc mes i estic fart, a veure si la gent es deixa de tonteries i es preocupa mes per ser feliç ell mateix!
Jo mateix reconec que a vegades m'agrada comentar alguna que altra xafarderia, però últimament ja és massa, no se què passa últimament que tothom sembla que s'hagi convertit en editor del HOLA o algo aixi! A veure si ho enteneu tots de una vegada: deixeu-vos de subtileses, foteses, malentesos, mals rotllos, i demés xorrades, perque no van amb mi.
Els que em coneixen saben que no m'agrada anar amb segones, i que soc directe i ho dic tot tal i com raja. I si algú li senta malament, mala sort.

I ara... a continuar barrallant-me amb el SDK del iphone!

Avui estava per cotxeres i he agafat uns DVD's de curts de la Marató de cinema fantàstic i de terror que es celebra cada any... i m'ha picat la curiositat per veure pelis 'cutres i de sang', tipus 'el vengador tóxico', 'reanimator', etc... i ves per on, youtube ha saciat la meva sed (i sobradament, per cert), amb la peli mes cutre i amb mes sang i fetge que he vist mai: Machine Girl!!! Una peli japo, que bueno... l'argument és el de menys!!

Brutal aquest article!!! per desgràcia, jo he sofert els mateixos problemes, treballar amb vendors pot ser molt difícil.

Pink box testing

Some years ago (1999′ish) I was in a job where I needed to bring in a lot of software contractors in a short space of time. As a result I ended up dealing with a good number of IT contracting agencies. To help the process I wrote very specific job / task descriptions, and sent these to all agencies.

Generally I would receive agency-specific CVs, where they had reformatted the candidate’s CV, and in places tweaked the content. Over time it became clear that some agencies certainly did a lot more than reformatting, adding things they thought I wanted to see. This was really annoying, as the fabrication would reveal itself at some point in the process, sometimes after wasting time on a candidate.

We needed a software tester, and while writing the task description I decided to see how far the agencies would go. The descriptions all had a section listing required skills and experience, and another listing desirables. In the required section I listed “Pink box testing experience”. There’s no such thing as Pink box testing (see below) - I made it up to see if I received any CVs with pink box testing listed.

Sure enough, a week or so after putting out the description, I received a CV for a software tester. He clearly had a lot of relevant experience, but the agency had added pink box testing as one of his strengths (it was an agency modification, not a claim of the candidate). It was fun ringing up the agent and explaining that he’d been caught in my trap, and listening to him trying to weasel his way out.

No such thing as Pink Box testing?

I can’t remember exactly when this was, but from my memory is was most likely 1999 or early 2000. At the time I did a quick web search to see if there was any such thing as pink box testing, and a quick skim of my testing books. Certainly didn’t seem to be at that time. As several commenters have pointed out, there are (now) several valid definitions of pink box testing, not all of them appropriate for polite conversation.

The term “pink box” was clearly relevant to phone phreakers at that time, so the term “pink box testing” made sense in at least that context, but in the context of software testing it didn’t.

Tal i com ja vaig anunciar en el post anterior... les profecies es començen a complir, i la censura de apple sembla que comença a fer efecte sobre les aplicacions de la store de apple... o al menys, aquesta és la impressió que dona.

Ara que ja tenim el iphone a "casa", m'he posat a mirar més en serio tot el tema del desenvolupament amb iphone (simuladors suxxxx), i la veritat és que tot fa una mica de tufillo a podrit... però començem pel principi:
Al principi apple va dir que la plataforma iphone (o ipod touch) seria una plataforma tancada i que no es podria fer software. Després, molta gent es va queixar i van accedir a treure un kit de desenvolupament però amb limitacions. Aquestes limitacions no estaven en el hardware, sino en els continguts, i aquí és on vaig començar a veure problemes...
Si vols, pots baixarte el SDK for free (de fet jo me l'estic baixant desde la primera beta) i pots començar a fer software... però no el pots distribuir en altres dispositius reals, perque? dons perque necessites que tingui una firma digital, i per poder firmar digitalment has de formar part del Developer program de apple i pagar 99€/any (vamos, t'han de fitxar), d'aquesta manera tu i solament tu podràs fer soft per el iphone, i com el software estarà firmat per la teva identitat, sempre sabràn d'on prové.
La teoria és molt bonica, ja que ells ens volen vendre que això ho fan per controlar que ningú farà 'malware', ni virus ni res... però la veritat és una molt diferent, ja que si mirem detingudament les restriccions del acord del desenvolupador, posa coses com que no es pot revelar informació Confidencial (=tots els materials del iphone ¿?), i per tant, està prohibit per exemple fer foros, llistes de distribució, etc... una bogeria total!!! Però això no acaba aquí, ja que amés apple prohibeix fer software de tracking (GPS, tom tom¿?) o de multimèdia (un player de audio-video)... què passa apple? tens por que algú faci un software millor que el teu bonic itunes?
Un altre punt a tenir en compte és que les aplicacions sol es poden distribuir per mitjà de la itunes store, lo qual vol dir que prèviament ha passat per la revisió de la gent de Apple, i segur que miraran totes aquestes normes amb lupa. I, encara que paguis religiosament els teus 99€ i facis un programa que sigui la reòstia, i el venguis per 0€, apple et pot tallar les ales, ja que tenen un contracte que t'han fet firmar "per collons" (per defecte l'acceptes si t'instal·les el SDK).
La veritat, tenia en ment fer el pomod per iphone (seria com un somni per mi poder escoltar els mòduls de demos en aquesta plataforma), i tenia pensat afegir viewers 3d i efectes típics de demos.... però... pa que? Apple s'ha posat molt estricta amb aquesta plataforma i crec que m'hauré de buscar la vida amb SDK's "no oficials" per poder fer els programes/demos que a mi m'agraden... ells s'ho han buscat!!!
Amés, si algú em ve amb les xorrades dels virus... li diré que en "teoria", el soft del iphone és un derivat del MacOSX, que crec que és molt segur... i no tindria que haver cap problema en aquest sentit... potser és que apple no les te totes en qüestió de seguretat...

Si es que fins hi tot Microsoft s'ho han muntat millor amb els SDK de windows mobile!!! No tenen restriccions de cap tipus amb el software, porten anys amb ell, hi han milers de pàgines amb documentació... i virus¿? tot i ser un sistema 1000 vegades mes inestable i insegur que el de apple, té molt poc virus i pràcticament inofensius...

Així que.... apple... l'estas cagant, t'estàs convertint en la nova Micro$oft?
Esperem que rectifiqui aviat o haurem de passar-nos al SDK no oficial, i tenir que actuar al "marge de la llei", tot per poder programar els nostres 4 programes... què trist, no?

GenLab: My last insane tool

Hi all!!! After some weeks developing and doing some research with Cocoa and xcode, I've some cool screenshot to show!!

I've called this tool "GenLab" (Generator Lab), and will be the fusion of my 3 tools developed until now: Texture Generator, Texture Library and Object Generator... and probably another cool idea :)

By the moment, I've started integrating the Texture Generator, and all seems to work fine (as you can see :P), once this tool is totally ported, I'll start with the other 2.

I think that I've some problems releasing the data, but I think that you can make an idea of the process, I'm not describing how to write code, just explaining a process to display an image buffer in Cocoa (in my opinion, not properly documented).

Dr. Who a TV3 (K3)!! i més news!!

Avui he escoltat a la radio que a TV3 emeten avui la MÍTICA sèrie Dr. Who!!!

Siiii!!! encara recordo estius veient embobat la (cutre) série Dr.Who!, és una sèrie de lo més surrealista, però que té molts seguidors a UK (per algo té 26 temporades!!!). Dons això, avui a les 20.45 al K3, toca ració de sci-fi!!!

Si, ho sé, la sèrie de Terminator: Les cròniques de Sarah Connor no val res!! jo la vaig estar veient i vaig tenir que apagar a meitat de capítol de lo cutre que era... per favor!!! qui es traga lo del terminator adolescent!!!!

Ah!!! Battlestar Galactica Temporada 4, comença el dia 4/04/2008, o sigui d'aquí res!! així que ja podeu preparar els bostres "burritos", a partir d'ara toca ració setmanal de Galàctica!! (i serà la última temporada!! :P)

Ahhhh!! i per acabar-ho de rematar, tenim X-files 2 d'aqui a res!! el 25 de Juliol he sentit!!

El Emulador del iPhone no té suport de OpenGLES

Desastrós!!!!

El emulador del iPhone que ve amb el SDK oficial no té suport de OpenGL-ES!!! és increible!!, però si tota la interfície (diria) que va amb OpenGL! com pot ser que no pugui ni tan sols inicialitzar una finestra de OpenGL amb el emulador???
Per el missatge d'error, sembla que la (cara) solució és comprarse un iPhone/ipod Touch i connectarlo al mac... però això no és viable!! amb PocketPC ja passava això i de totes les HORES i HORES que m'he passat programant en pocketPC casi mai vaig usar el dispositiu real (tot i que el tenia), però a la llarga no és pràctic... el que volem és un simulador, però un simulador que ho emuli TOT senyors, no em vinguin amb milongues de que la part de OpenGL-ES no la poden simular pq no m'ho crec!!

A més, encara tinc que enterarme be del rollo del certificat digital que Apple tha de dornar per poder fer applicacions per iPhone... pq com s'hagi de pagar... ho tenen clar els de apple que pagaré per poder fer demos en iphone!! ademes, que tenen que ser revisades per ells... thsss!!, no flipen ni res!!
Per si de cas, aniré mirant-me el SDK no oficial.... :)

Hola a tots!!

Afans seguidors del meu blog!! se que heu patit molt perque no posava posts!!! però tranquils!! les vostres pregàries han sigut escoltades i això no passarà mai mes!!! simplement, estava molt liat amb la nova feina per trobar estones per escriure posts, però això s'ha acabat!, ja torno a estar a tope!!
A la nova feina estem tots bastant liats: és un nou projecte, som un equip bastant gran i tenim bastantes persones al càrrec, o sigui que aquests 2 primers mesos han sigut durillos, i la feina està sortint per tot arreu, però amb organització, tot acava tirant endavant!

Aquestes darreres 3 setmanes he anat a la India per motius de feina, de visita a la empresa Wipro. Wipro s'encarrega de proporcionar serveis de IT a Zurich, i com tot està començant, un company i jo a veure la gent, donar seminaris, etc... vamos, el que diriem "veure com està el patio". La idea que m'enporto és molt positiva, però no fa falta entrar en els detalls... aqui em limitaré a explicar el que he vist del país, la gent, posar fotitos i tot això... :D

Estic preparant una "cole" de fotos i videos, de les casi 800 que vaig fer :P

Trastejant amb el sdk del iphone

Ahir el nostre amic silenci es va apoderar de un ipod touch... realment impressionant!! aixi que no me n'he pogut estar i m'he instal·lat el SDK del iphone... realment els de Apple ho han tornat a fer!! té una pinta impressionant!!!
De moment he pogut fer molt poques coses, sol fer una app d'exemple i poc més.. tot i que sembla que sol es pot fer servir objective-C, es veu un entorn molt potent i amb moltes possibilitats.
Per cert, he vist una cosa curiosa al emulador del iphone... futur suport de... català¿?

New year, new job!

El passat 31 de desembre va ser oficialment el meu últim dia a la empresa NTE, i demà, dia 2 de Gener començo a la empresa Zurich. He estat poc temps a NTE, però va sorgir la oferta de Zurich casi sense avisar i... la temptació era molt gran!! Ara la feina està a barcelona, molt aprop del meu futur pis, i tindré un càrrec amb més responsabilitats, en fi, que la cosa pinta bastant be :) Tot i així, m'enporto molts bons records de NTE, on he treballat amb molt bona gent i projectes més que interessants, espero que a la gent de NTE li vagi tot de conya i segueixin com fins ara!!
Molts records als que m'heu aguantat durant 6 mesos... i a d'altres que m'han aguantat durant un temps més... espero que ens tornem a trobar aviat!!!!!

En fi, res més... bueno, que tingueu bon any i bones festes... i bla bla bla... res q no hagueu sentit ja :P

Hi everyone! New pomod version!! :)

Well, we can say that it is a minor version (0.7 to 0.7.5), there are no big news, only small bugfixes, and a small feature:

Feature: File list now is sorted alphabetically (for me, is a big feature, despite it was only 1 line of code :P) -- little changes are powerful [capità enciam]
Bug: Deleting a file from playlist without anything selected was causing an exception
Bug: Spectrum bars where not loaded propertly from default config file
Bug: Spectrum bars are setted to zero's if we disable spectrum analyzer viewer (merlucin request)

You can get pomod 0.7.5 from my page, and remember, source code is also available!!

Meanwhile, a new music pack is coming, so stay tunned!
