Presentation night - Friday 24th April 2009

Here are more details for the running of the presentation night. As you can see, there is a lot of work for the managers to do to make this a successful event.

* We still need volunteers to help on the night, please contact Steph (at) iomwebs(dot) net if are willing to sell raffle tickets, set up before the night and/or take it all down again.
* If any of the sponsors wish to sponsor this particular event, let me know asap.
* I will arrange a running projection of whatever photos, videos, season summaries, are supplied to me by 17th April.
* DEphotos will be taking team photos. The plan is to do this away from the stage this year, so we don't take up 'stage'time asking the players to smile!!

The running order is

5.30 manager arrive (1st session teams) to unpack, sort out and check the trophies for their team. Hand in raffle prize.

1st session - u9g,u9b,u10g,u10b,u11g,u12b,
6pm arrive
6.30pm presentation starts

6.30 manager arrive (2nd session teams) to unpack, sort out and check the trophies for their team. Hand in raffle prize.
2nd sessions- u13g,u13b,u14b,u15b,u16b,u18b

7pm arrive
7.30pm presentation starts

There will be a raffle with the draw planned for about 7.30 and a good first prize.

The main focus this year is on teams socialising and enjoying just being together celebrating their seasons efforts.

This is the last year I (Steph) will be helping to organise the event, so proposals from volunteers in other teams will be required for next year, if you want something different; step up and make it happen :)

The Sony Campaign Awards is a competition for amateur photographers whose passion is football. The raffle raised over £700 this year and is becoming a regular feature on the Crosspool calendar.

Well, here we are again, the start of a new season. I know it's the start of the football season because its raining outside !!! I've already squelched around in mud and attended an FA county league meeting (on the Respect campaign, more about that in later posts). So CJFC managers, send me the details of your training venues and home pitches, contact details, a squad photo and a joke and I'll get the webmaster to update the site.

Well, that's that for another season. All matches played, all goals scored or conceded, all cups fought for, and won or lost. Last Tuesday we thanked the managers and coaches, the parents, helpers and sponsors; but most of all we celebrated the achievements of the Crosspool teams, and the individual players who make up those teams. We said goodbye to two managers, James Barnes and James Foulser and wish them well in their new ventures.

I'd like to thanks Sue and Ray for being on the door; Sally for organising the trophies, the raffle prizes and compering on the night; Adrian for supplying the projector: Andrew for the slide show; Anthony and Chris for helping to set up; all the managers who sold tickets and made sure their players knew where and when the celebration was happening; but most of all thanks to the players who during the evening were well behaved, respectful of the other teams getting their awards, smiled nicely for their photos and, as always, are a credit to the club.

Here are a few past CJFC players now playing for Sheffield FC U 19s who won North Midlands League Cup 3-0 vs Alfreton at Staveley on 28th April. From left Joe Jerrison, Eliott Hockley, Josh Jones, Joel Purkiss, Ted Crbbley, Janni Lipka.

Double Double

Having already won their respective leagues the u9 and u10 went to Outu Kumpu today to try for the double.

They were up against worthy opponents and had to battle hard to get their eventual wins 1-0 for the u9s, 2-1 for the u10s.

Other league results
U12s (11 a-side) came 2nd in the A division, u12s (7 a-side) were 3rd in their B division; u11 and u 13s were 3rd in their A divisions. A good set of results all round, well done girls and managers.

Due to a mix-up with the working men's club, the presentation night will be held else where. Date and venue will be posted here as soon as details are available.Payments for tickets can be made to managers, there won't be time to print tickets, so a list will be held on the door of those who have paid. £4 if you pay in advance £5 if you pay on the door. Due to some resignations in the previous few weeks, there are a few new faces at the committee table. Randall was voted in as Chairman, Antony Rossiter as treasurer, Sally Grant as minutes secretary. Girls secretary post was made a committee post, in line with the boys side, this is Sally again. We are pleased to welcome Stephen Wilson, who has joined the team as the nursery squad manager.
There was no volunteer for the post of boys secretary. This is a vital position in the club, the person who acts as the contact point between the managers and the league. Sally Grant is acting as club secretary but as she is already the girls-side secretary, and knows nothing about the workings of the boys leagues,it is not feasible or desirable for her to take on the role of boys secretary. Someone from the boys teams needs to take this role, and quickly. If you're a boys team manager and haven't already got a committee position,or recently undertaken one, it could be you....

Christmas draw tickets

The Christmas draw tickets need to be sold and stubs and money returned to your manager by Tuesday 11th December at the latest. Don't hold onto unsold tickets until the last minute, bring them back so we can give them to someone else to sell. If you haven't been given any to sell, ask your team manager. This is a big fund-raiser for the club, but it does need everyone to put some effort in :)

Many thanks to Jo Squiers who ran the bodyshop party and gave her commission to the club funds. We raised £60 and earned ourselves some lovely Bodyshop goodies for the raffle.

The AGM will be at Coldwell Lane again this year. We have some important business to get through. We need nominations for treasurer and chairman. Paul Wainwright resigned officially as chairman at lastnight's managers' meeting. If you want to nominate anyone, please let me know (steph(at)iomwebs.net). In the meantime Randall Cousins is Acting-Chairman.The committee are also proposing to have the girls' secretary as a committee post to bring it in line with the boys side.

On the social side, we will run a raffle; if you have a prize to donate, please give it to your manager, or bring it along on the night. Teas and coffees will be served after the meeting as usual. Come and meet the managers, committee and parents from other teams.

Baldwin's night out

Well, after a few teething problems, a last-minute rush on tickets saw around 60 friends of Crosspool JFC dressed in their best togs arriving at Baldwin's Omega last Friday. Sue worked very hard to get the event up and running and we presented her with a bouquet of flowers to show our appreciation.
The meal was lovely, the staff were attentive and very helpful. We raffled a pair of gloves, to be signed by Gordon Banks, who has a personal connection to Crosspool. And then the talk inevitably turned to football, so at that point I went to dance....I went home at a reasonable hour; but I heard that some people were last seen dancing across Hunter's Bar round-about.....
Many thanks to those who put their hands in their pockets;considering we have 17 teams with, over 200 players, with around 400 parents, this is not an overwhelming turn out, let's hope any future fund-raisers are better supported.

Ed has decided to step down in the near future. Our thanks go to him, I know he has done a lot of work on this, and will see the job through the busiest time of the year. If anyone has a burning ambition to be the next club treasurer please let me, Ed or Paul know and we'll talk you through the job. The ideal hand-over is in the run-up to the AGM so that the new person can be voted in properly.

Charity donation

Sue (U12 coach) has kindly donated several sets of kit for the club to send to a school in Zambia. Mary Grafton, of the charity http://www.ituna.net/ , came to Tuesday night practice in the park to take delivery of the kit. Two of the u9 girls modelled some of the kit, just before it rained. The club is also donating £100, which was raised last year for charitable purposes. We wish Mary, her family and all the other volunteers every success in their forthcoming trip to Zambia and we want to see some photos of the kit being put to good use :)

Trials

Under 8s boys and girls are looking for players. Come to Tapton School all-weather pitches at 6.45 on Thursdays in June.
