Greg's Big Announcement

As you have heard by now on Show 5.03, Greg has announced his retirement from the Buffalo Bills Review. After four fun years of talking Bills football, he is laying down the microphone.

Here is the statement he read on the final show (minus a few ad libs...)

To the BBR listening (and participating) audience.

In August of 2005 I had a fun idea, pitched it to my brother in law (Uncle Josh, for those who have been with us that long) and later to The Drake... and thus was born Buffalo Bills Review. Seemed like a fun idea, even if no one would listen.

Well, we were wrong. In the first couple weeks we started getting emails. People loved the show. We had well over a hundred people downloading our shows... Sports Illustrated even featured us as one of four podcasts worth listening to!

It’s taken off from there... we have met up for two years at Bills game (the BBR game!) ... we’ve had listeners from all over the world participating in the show. We’ve had lots of great current and former Buffalo Bills join us on the show since that first year. We’ve had fun Bills fans like the president of VH1 on the show (Hey, Tom...)

We’ve had J.P. Losman. Nuff said. :-)

But in this coming season, Season 5 of the Buffalo Bills Review - four full years after we recorded the first show... we will not have me.

Effective immediately, I’m laying down my microphone, and will no longer be hosting this #1 Bills show on the internet. I may keep writing articles (not sure yet) but I will no longer be doing the show, at the mic, or in the mixing/engineering/podcast/website running duties.

The show may continue. We are not shutting down BBR just yet. That’s not set at the moment, so we won’t go into any detail there. We’ll make any pertinent announcements via the BBR website (or Facebook page).

I would like to say thanks. Thanks for listening. For contributing. For having fun with me, with us. Thanks to my co-hosts over the years. Thanks much to our special guests. I’ve had a blast - and if I had the time to give to it, I’d certainly continue. But my growing family needs me (and I need them) :-) So, with regret (but knowing it’s the best thing to do...) I lay my microphone down.

Can’t wait for this Bills season... as with every Bills season! I’m a big Bills fan, and will continue to be!

BBR will take it’s normal off-season break - post-draft to training camp. We’ll see how it comes out on the other side. For now... for me...

Not only was the recording electronically garbled last week, now we are not able to publish articles to the website either! Perhaps all part of Ralph's grand conspiracy? Another Chicken Wing Wager

Hello everyone. As mentioned on our show, John and I discussed wager possibilities and we settled on the following:

If the Bills lose by THREE TOUCHDOWNS (21 pts) or more to the Pats on Sunday 11/9, then Greg buys John wings.
If the Bills DO NOT lose by 21 pts or more, John buys Greg wings.

(21 pts?? Really???)

John's prediction was that the Pats would actually win by 27 (37-10) so, 21 will be easy. (Ha!)

My point (Greg) is that we have no business suiting up for any of our remaining games in 2008 if we lose a game that we absolutely MUST win, against a team with at least as many injuries as we have, and who the Bills are at least as good as.... if we lose that game by TWENTY ONE POINTS???? That would be a disgrace.

So, I'd bet on me collecting some chicken wings on another silly, pessimistic prediction involving our Buffalo Bills. :-)

BBR Game! Oct 19th, vs San Diego

It's time for the 2nd Annual BBR Game! We'll be meeting up in the southwest corner of the northeast lot. (The lot closest to the stadium.) We're planning to be making wings (Greg's famous wings) as well as some other great tailgating "cuisine". Be sure to bring something to add to the mix.

We'll be there no later than 10am, and plan to hang out till about noon when we'll pack up and head in for a big Bills win!!

BBR celebrities will be there, including your BBR hosts, the Ball Burglar guys, Tom Calderone, and the infamous Sven from Germany! (Maybe we can even get a cameo appearance by JP Losman?)

We will not be recording the show in the parking lot following the game this year, but that gives y'all more time to get your calls and emails in after the game.

Hey folks. I just discovered this morning that we had exceeded our bandwidth for buffalobillsreview.com! The site was blocked by an automated script that shuts us down if we ever go over. Ordinarily we do not, but apparently, traffic is UP. That's fantastic! Thanks for visiting, and keep coming. I hope that this will not only be the place you can grab our weekly (or more) shows but also get some great content from other Bills fan/writers, and links to other great Bills stuff... just a fun place to stop by for Bills fans!

Greg will be Live Blogging at Buffalo.com!

Quick news flash here... Earlier in the summer, the Buffalo News asked us to contribute to a new site they wanted to start this football season, bills.buffalo.com. They are featuring our podcast, as well as my (Greg's) articles and even a couple live chat events.

One of those is a live blog during the game. I will be moderating a few of those, along with some other folks. The schedule for those has been announced, and here are the games I will be moderating (which includes THIS Sunday!):

9/21 1:00pm vs Oakland

10/26 1:00pm at Miami

11/9 1:00pm at Patriots

It looks like I'll be there 30 min prior to kickoff, so come on over and add your comments to the mix. It'll be just like the BBR Game Day chat room, except, not in the BBR Game Day chat room.

Special Episodes of the BBR

You've undoubtedly noticed that we've been cranking out a good number of "special episodes" here this pre-season. That was planned, and the cool thing is, there are many more planned!

We've already recorded and published the episodes featuring Tom Calderone (from VH1, Bills fan, and BBR listener), the Ball Burglars, and Steve Christie. Hope you have enjoyed those as much as we have.

We have some great shows in the queue, including a few we can't mention just yet (not officially scheduled). But there are two we do have scheduled. We will be putting out two shows during the bye week, featuring Donte Whitner and James Hardy. We contacted Donte through his Team20 Foundation, and connected with Hardy via that route as well. We'll be talking with Donte (and James) about the work he does through Team20, and other community involvement, and of course... Bills football!

BBR Articles Page - New Writers

Hey folks, just wanted to let you know that we're expanding a bit here at the Buffalo Bills Review! We have brought on a few more contributors to the Articles Page, hoping to make that a place full of great Bills-related articles, thoughts, editorials, even links and quick news tidbits. With more contributors, there should be even more content, and a great variety, too!

All the BBR hosts will be contributing (Greg, Dave, The John, Dre, maybe even "Uncle" Josh) as well as Ben Plewak, and Brian Hedger who wrote for BBR last year. Joining the team this year are Ryan Simmons, host of The NFL Tailgate (and last year filled in for Greg for a show), and "wyo", a former blogger at BuffaloBills.com, and super-mega contributor to the BuffaloBills.com Message Boards. She's a long-time Bills fan, and has great stuff to say about our Bills.

More will be joining the team, and the page will be hopping soon, with Buffalo Bills football really JUST around the corner! So stop by the page and/or bookmark the feed.

I recently reconfigured our pages to include the banner ads at the top. Did you notice? :-) They are all services which we (at least, I, Greg) recommend. A New Member of the Campbell Family

This is sort of BBR News by default (as I, Greg, am one of the voices of the BBR.) On March 13th, the Campbell family grew by one with the addition of another baby girl, Emma Caroline! She's beautiful, and healthy, and so is Mom - and we are delighted! We like the name Emma, and Caroline is after her Grandma. She's sleeping in her mom's arms as I type this.

Just thought I'd make that little announcement here as it has certainly affected the frequency of updates to the BBR site over the past month or so! Starting to get back to a normal routine here in our house.

Technical Difficulties

I just thought I would post a note here that we are experiencing hopefully TEMPORARY technical difficulties here. Apparently, the entire audio catalog of the Buffalo Bills Review has been deleted. This week's show is up, and ready to download, but I am in the process of re-uploading the previous three shows, and hopefully restoring the full directory ASAP. Yikes. I was told that this hosting company just instantly deletes suspect directories containing only audio files! What??!?

Sorry for the inconvenience. The archives should be fully restored shortly.

We have a multi-media extravaganza for you, folks! Most of you could not be there for our first ever BBR Game Day LIVE... (Sunday Oct 21, 2007 @ The Ralph) so we're bringing it to you! Dave made a little video (annoyingly so during the recording of the show!!) and Jen took some photos which I put to the opening theme music of the BBR. I also uploaded some photos to our Facebook group, and uploaded the higher-quality versions of both videos below to our server. There are a few random things from the previous show or two to tidy up, so I am posting them here, and hoping that folks are checking the BBR News page!

BBR Game Day LIVE!
We'll be setting up in the ECC parking lot off Southwestern Blvd this Sunday morning. I'm bringing a football, and it looks like I'll also be cooking my famous chicken wings right there in the parking lot as well! Our friend Chi will be making beef brisket (ya, I'm not to sure what that is either...) and we know Sven is bringing some German tailgating food... It's gonna be a fun morning!

Then we watch the Bills dominate the Ravens!

Then we come back to the parking lot, set up the sound system, and do the Bills Review with a live audience! If you're coming out to the game, don't miss this part! Should be fun (and kinda funny...) and I just have no idea what we'll get. We're shooting for a start time of just half an hour after the game ends. We'll see if we can do it.

Major Technical Difficulties!

There is supposed to be a show up today (Show 3.09) but the audio was so bad I couldn't do it. We're working on re-doing the show, it should be up within the next day or two. Sorry for the inconvenience! Not sure what happened. We had problems up front, and then thought we got them straightened out, but when I listened to the recording, Dave & John had HUGE echo on them!

We Have A Winner!

Along with the Buffalo Bills first win comes a greatly anticipated secondary win --- Greg gets his chicken wings!!!

That's right! Buffalo avoids going 0-5 (though Dave was dangerously close in his prediction!!) and Greg will be getting a bucket of medium wings from Duffs!

Also, the PUNT Foundation will be receiving $150 from this little wager. Dave and D. Mahlitz ponied up $50 each, saying the Bills would go 0-5. John said on the show that even though he took the side of at least one win, he would still make the donation. Great idea!

Now you have your choice of streaming an MP3 version of our show, or downloading that same MP3 version - OR, get the Buffalo Bills Review in AAC format, complete with photos, graphics and links to everything we're talking about! If you're listening to the show in iTunes, you can follow along in a much more media rich way!

To get the new AAC version of the show, just click on the AAC link at the top of each podcast entry on the main page. Right-click to download, or left click to play in the browser. Eventually the feeds will be different, so you can get either the MP3 or the enhanced AAC version. Your choice.

Drake's Winless Challenge

As you have heard on the show, Dave has made the outrageous claim that the Bills will start the season 0-5. Well, I challenged him to put his money where his mouth is. I bet him an order of chicken wings that the Bills would win at least ONE of their first five games. Later we upped it to a bucket. Bills win once in five games, Dave buys me chicken wings. They go 0-5, I buy Dave chicken wings.

Well, this week listener Joab called Dave out on the hotline, saying he'd like to get in on that 0-5 bet somehow, and Dave came up with a brilliant way to have some fun, and support a good cause, too!

Here's what we're going to do:

First, figure out if you can afford to wager a $50 donation to the P.U.N.T. Foundation. Please only play if you are willing to actually donate.
Then, decide which way you think the Bills record will go. 0-5, or anything else.
Click on the appropriate link below to email in your selection. If you choose 0-5, you are siding with Dave, If you think the Bills win at least one game, you are siding with Greg.

Join the BBR Team, Help Kids

Bills punter, Brian Moorman, joined us on the Bills Review today (another special edition BBR, available here) and we learned that not only is his foundation doing great things for children who have cancer, and their families... we can help out pretty easily too!

Anyone is able to donate, or join the Kicking for Kids 2007 campaign where you pledge to donate any amount of money per kick downed inside the 20. Last year Brian had 33, so if you pledge $1 per kick, that's $33 at the end of the year. But another pretty cool feature is setting up your own PUNT Foundation fund raising page!

So, we have done that for the Buffalo Bills Review!

Click the little graphic at the top right of this entry, and head over there and donate, or join our fund raising team by clicking the "Join this team" link in the right-hand column. You can make your own page where family, friends, co-workers, anyone can donate to a good cause.

PURCHASE T-SHIRTS HERE

We have a few options for these t-shirts. You can purchase either the design with the larger full-color logo on the front (the samples we were sent are missing the white outline, but you will get the correct version), or you can select the smaller, 2-color logo on the pocket. The back is the same on both shirts. (Pictured on the Navy photo to the right.) The other option you then have is the color. You can choose pink (I believe it's Azalea, actually) or Navy Blue.

Shirts are also avilable in multiple sizes. Youth small, medium and large. Adult small, medium, large and extra large. (Bigger sizes are also available, please click on the "additional charges" button, and add one charge (it's just a dollar) per larger shirt ordered.)
