X-Man Doesn't Mark the Spot for Oscars: Hugh Jackman Won't Rehost

Hugh Jackman would like to thank the Academy, but no thanks.

Despite his critically (the gig garnered several Emmy nominations) and publicly (he breathed new life and viewers into the ratings sinkhole) acclaimed Oscars hosting stint last spring, the Aussie actor will not be returning to the podium for the 2010 telecast.

Jackman's quiet exit doesn't mean he won't one day become this generation's Billy Crystal. His rep confirmed to E! News that he has not ruled out a return to the Oscar stage, but just didn't want to emcee for two consecutive years.

Fair enough. After all, how are we supposed to realize how good this is until we spend a year without it?

No frontrunner has emerged to fill Jackman's sizable song-and-dance shoes, but with one obvious fill-in, Ricky Gervais, suddenly bringing new buzz to the Golden Globes, the Academy better bring out the big guns.

So…Stephen Colbert, Neil Patrick Harris, Conan O'Brien, Chris Rock, Ellen DeGeneres, uh, Robert Pattinson…who would you like to see host the 82nd Annual Academy Awards when they return March 7?

I heard reports of this madness from the Diamond Retailers Summit a couple weeks ago, but with no one to go on the record or any pics, I wasn't going to post. Now, thanks to these pics from The Beat, I can: the Marvel universe will welcome not just Lady Deadpool, but The Deadpool Corps., which seems to include Deadpool, Lady Deadpool, a Kid Deadpool, and either a dog or cat Deadpool (it's hard for me to tell).

He's negotiating the lead in the robo-boxing drama.

Hugh Jackman might be be busy on Broadway right now, but he's still considering film roles - and he's looking to star in DreamWorks Real Steel.

The drama, which just nabbed Shawn Levy as a director after Peter Berg moved on, focuses on a former fighter living in a world where boxing has been outlawed as too violent, except for gladiatorial robots.

Jackman's former fist-slinger becomes a down-on-his-luck promoter whose droids tend to lose because they have sub-standard parts. But then he discovers a machine that never loses, and, as he follows its progress, he also gets a chance to bond with the son he just discovered.

It's based on a Richard Matheson short story, and has cropped up in the past as a Twilight Zone story, though we figure with DreamWorks' resources behind him, Levy's effort will be a little more effects heavy.

The studio wants the film shooting before next summer...
