It only took me about an hour of meandering the back roads through Van and New Harmony to find, but at least we got a nice tour of some pretty farms along the way. Somehow, I can always manage to turn a 16 mile trip into a 2-1/2 hour excursion. For most NORMAL people, though, Melissahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11514825633836671269noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6701453103043281415.post-2383845547619759142009-07-11T18:56:00.008-05:002009-07-11T19:18:13.534-05:00Goodbye Princess.Today is a sad day at the Blue House.Princess Granola passed away at some point during the night.Princess Granola was Katie Beth's cat.....her 5th Birthday gift. The ONLY thing on her birthday wish-list that year was a cat of her very own, a black and white one.I was thrilled to find a tiny little black and white Humane Society kitten at PetLand, and when she tried to claw through the glass cageMelissahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11514825633836671269noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6701453103043281415.post-72462669102925223792009-07-10T10:44:00.003-05:002009-07-10T12:50:00.786-05:00House For Sale. The first house we ever owned, remodeled, lived in for seven years, brought our first baby home to, is for sale.I loved seeing the pictures online here (*you have to enter MLS# 9989747) and strolling down memory lane.Looks like most of the paint colors are just like we left them four years ago!And I SOOOOO miss that enormous backyard....two lots!Thought all our friends who spent time at this Melissahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11514825633836671269noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6701453103043281415.post-31450542633210631632009-07-09T07:57:00.008-05:002009-07-09T08:35:04.725-05:00Evil Words. This morning at breakfast, we had a very short, very informal Bible time and one-or-two minute discussion about the book of James. In terms a 3-and-7-year-old can understand, of course.I read 2 or 3 verses to the girls, paraphrased for them what the verses meant and talked for a minute or two about how we should watch what we say and avoid evil words because the words that we say matter a lot to Melissahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11514825633836671269noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6701453103043281415.post-14255994013168843172009-07-08T11:00:00.008-05:002009-07-08T12:06:49.804-05:00Our July 4th Celebration. We had a great time July 4th.Our friends the Watermans invited us out to their farm where the girls played, and we cooked out on the grill. Their favorite? Playing in the boats... on dry ground.Little girls are easily entertained sometimes.Following the cookout, we kicked the girls out of our boats and drove out to the lake. It was a neat experience watching the fireworks from the water, Melissahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11514825633836671269noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6701453103043281415.post-57299896529413202222009-07-07T10:02:00.004-05:002009-07-07T10:13:43.734-05:00How Things Change in a Year.I was scrolling back through old posts today, and one year ago today this is what I posted:So my sister had a sonogram today........and though she's only 15 weeks, and the sonogram technician told her "its a little too early to tell 100%, so DON'T go buy a bunch of stuff," but she's as certain as she can be THIS early that....And those are the best, you know. :)Everything looked great on the Melissahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11514825633836671269noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6701453103043281415.post-76557171241299570232009-07-05T13:12:00.015-05:002009-07-09T08:04:23.798-05:00Bringing Out the Big Guns.So Thursday afternoon, I took the kids to Jumpin' Jacks Party Shack for open jump. They open their doors every Thursday afternoon from 3:30-5:30 and for the ridiculously expensive not completely budget-breaking price of $6 per kid, you can buy yourself a couple of hours of germs, noise, and other people's poorly behaved children air-conditioned entertainment for your kiddos. Its one of those Melissahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11514825633836671269noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6701453103043281415.post-21392659456727634782009-07-03T20:32:00.011-05:002009-07-03T22:09:24.529-05:00Homeschooling. Yes or No?I know my closest friends know that I've been pondering and praying about the idea of homeschooling my kids for some time now!And now here we are, coming up on another school year, and once again, I'm standing at the edge of this homeschooling cliff. Dare I jump?I couldn't bring myself to do it last year for first grade.Or the year before that for kindergarten.I wanted to, both times.....but I'mMelissahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11514825633836671269noreply@blogger.com13tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6701453103043281415.post-44210895305841743582009-07-01T17:27:00.005-05:002009-07-01T17:34:47.872-05:00Wish You Were Here? Its been a thrilling, exciting, adrenaline rush of a summer at the Blue House.Well, except for the 'thrilling' and 'exciting' parts.Oh yeah, and the 'adrenaline rush' part.My poor kids. Drive my daughter to a school that's too expensive and then I go to work to a job for which I get paid too little. But on pretzel day....Well, I like pretzel day.Last night my poor little sick girl, who hadn't eaten ANY FOOD in 48 hours, asked me if we could make some of those pretzels like we got at Six Flags. How could I resist? So I Melissahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11514825633836671269noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6701453103043281415.post-69306999867087336932009-06-26T18:12:00.009-05:002009-06-26T19:34:50.273-05:00In Pursuit of Weirdness.OK, I'm just going to go ahead and spill it.I've spent an awful lot of time on the internet lately.Researching three basic ideas.Want to know what they are?I'll tell you.Just to confirm, even more, in your mind, that we are weird people. But I felt like 'organizing' my stash of old pictures, and I've come across some good ones. The ubiquitous Olan Mills picture. Did I just say 'ubiquitous?' Mrs. Whitman would be so proud. Part 2.Lately I've been dreaming a lot about living in the country. Raising farm kids, with their very own horse.Farm-fresh eggs every morning from our very own brood of chickens.Fantasizing about hearing the sounds of nature at night ~ crickets and coyotes ~ rather than the sounds of gun shots ambulance sirens, trains, bass blaring from car speakers all hours of the day and night, and traffic noise Melissahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11514825633836671269noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6701453103043281415.post-89286997501260065002009-06-22T15:50:00.006-05:002009-06-22T19:55:25.473-05:00Happy Fathers' Day.I'm so glad my girls have you for a dad. :)Melissahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11514825633836671269noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6701453103043281415.post-84937416070858242252009-06-20T12:27:00.005-05:002009-06-20T23:14:03.175-05:00Beaten to Death by Monkeys.I'm a fan of Dave Ramsey.Hubs and I have pretty much always tried to live as debt-free as possible, and so Dave's line of thinking pretty much lines right up with what we have always believed. But its hard to live that way....believe me....and we fail at it quite regularly. We are as tempted as anyone else by the lure of material things. And have been known to make a foolish car decision once Melissahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11514825633836671269noreply@blogger.com10tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6701453103043281415.post-13892596861547884732009-06-18T07:31:00.001-05:002009-06-18T07:31:00.829-05:00While We Wait.As you may know from this previous post and this one, we have decided to wait and watch Annie's tumor, rather than scheduling surgery immediately. But we're not exactly sittin' here, happily watching soap operas and eating bon-bons, oblivious that there is a tumor growing in our baby's head.Just because we're waiting....doesn't mean we're doing nothing. So I wanted to fill you in on a little of Melissahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11514825633836671269noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6701453103043281415.post-38240146783121116742009-06-17T14:32:00.003-05:002009-06-17T14:38:10.966-05:00WoRDLeSS WeDNeSDaY.Melissahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11514825633836671269noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6701453103043281415.post-5987865793844159362009-06-15T22:42:00.005-05:002009-06-15T22:45:25.417-05:00A Few Day Camp Pictures.A few fun moments from Day Camp last week....Melissahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11514825633836671269noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6701453103043281415.post-14126925662714169072009-06-13T11:01:00.005-05:002009-06-13T12:09:11.184-05:00Best Friends on Earth....and Sisters for Eternity. These two girls just wrapped up a week of Day Camp at our church.Day Camp is always the best week of your entire life, if you're in elementary school. And this week proved to be the best, most exciting week of all ... because....These two girls gave their hearts to Jesus.Their sins are all forgiven.... past, present, and future. They are sealed with the Holy Spirit.... a bond has been forged with Melissahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11514825633836671269noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6701453103043281415.post-2859649476377856882009-06-12T05:44:00.008-05:002009-06-12T06:15:58.713-05:00How's Annie Feeling?Grumpy.Grouchy.Whiny.Crying.Sullen.Sleepy.Did I mention grumpy?I'm not sure why.Is it the diet? The supplements? The lack of sugar? The fact that her new diet and new supplements are making her need more sleep?Or maybe just because she's three? You'd have to know this child to know how this behavior is totally, completely opposite of our 'normal' Annie. Since we've recently rediscovered how great it is, not to mention budget-friendly for people who, say, might have spent every last penny they owned remodeling an old house, we plan to be here often. And what's so sad is that its been here all along.........but somehow, we've forgotten to take advantage of it!
