Beyond the hype, here's what I think:
The iPhone is the gadget I've always hoped for. I recently had it in Rincon, Puerto Rico and everything worked flawlessly. Used the camera for nice shots of the beach, town and other tourist pics without having to lug another camera around. The reception was decent, although the hilly terrain made it spotty in places. AT&T is in Puerto Rico, so was able to use the data side without paying data roaming charges. I emailed my bro a picture of "Happy Birthday" scribbled in the sand. I kept up on the bitter cold weather in my home town surfing my local newspaper site and checked email via gmail's nice new IMAP mail interface. (EDGE worked, but Bananadang's wireless is so much sweeter) The interactions between the apps is unbelievably smooth and the touch screen works better than I expected.

That said, there's some things the phone should have by now. Apple has had time add these features, but hasn't:

MMS support. It's got a nice camera, I should be able to easily send pics via MMS instead of just email.

Video capture. Come on. Even the free crappy Motorola's have this.

Mutli-person texting. One person at a time? OMG.

Wireless syncing. It's got WiFi on board, why do I have to use USB?

Official 3rd party apps development starts in February, so if Apple doesn't get on these things, I'm sure someone else will.K2noreply@blogger.com
