Don't worry. This happens to most people. It may be that your body likes the weight you are at and does not want to give up anymore fat. Every "body" has a set point. You can change this if you really are adamant about reaching your original goal weight.

Here are lists of things to change that will jumpstart your weight loss again:

1. Make changes to your weight training routine. If you have been doing a full body workout you should switch to a split routine. Do your upper body one day and your lower body on your next weight training day or work your muscles in groups (ex: Day 1 - Legs / Day 2 - Chest & Triceps / Day 3 - Back, Shoulders & Biceps)

2. Change the type of exercises you are doing for each body part. For instance, if you have been doing the Seated Chest Press and Pec Deck for your chest, switch to a Flat Bench Press and Dumbbell Flyes. You will actually see better results if you use free weights instead of machines.

3. Change the type of cardio you are doing. Your body gets used to the same routine after about 4 weeks. If you have been doing the treadmill for your cardio workout for more than 4 weeks, switch to the stationary bike, the elliptical or the stair stepper.

4. Make some dietary changes. For a short while (6 weeks or less) you can remove the starchy carbohydrates from your last 2 meals. Replace the starch with vegetables. Never remove all the carbohydrates from your diet.

5. Zig Zag your caloric intake. Eat low (1400) calories for 3 days in a row, and then have one higher calorie day. Increase your calories by 25% for your high calorie day. (1750 calories).

6. Make sure you are eating ONLY whole-grain, unprocessed carbohydrates. White flour and processed carbohydrates such as bread can cause an insulin spike, which in turn promotes fat storage. Eat foods low on the Glycemic Index to help avoid insulin spikes.

7. If you eat dairy, make sure it is fat free. Since dairy is processed, is it best to keep it to a minimum, especially cheese. There is also evidence that the protein in dairy products may leach calcium from your bones. The best sources of calcium are plant sources such as green, leafy vegetables and soy products like tofu and soy milk.

8. If you've reached a plateau, maybe it's time to try something totally different. Instead of your regular cardio plan, sign up for a martial arts class or a boxing class. They will not only get your heart pumping but also help to make you mentally disciplined. Try martial arts or boxing classes as your only form of cardio 1 or 2 days a week. Continue with weight training at least 3 days per week. For your "Off Days", take a nice long leisurely walk.

Making just a few of these changes can help you break that dreaded plateau and re-start your fat loss.

Related posts:

Tips for Maximizing Your Weight Loss While on an HCG Diet

Bananas - perfect snacks for weight loss

Citrus Fruits And Their Benefit For Weight Loss

HCG (Human Chorionic Gonadotropin) for weight loss

Resistance Training First; Fat Burning Second for Weight Loss

Weight Loss & Health Tips Revealed: Can I Be Fit And Fat?

The Secret Key To Permanent Weight Loss!

How to Incorporate More "Green" Into Your Diet

Running For Weight Loss - Tips To Maximum The Effectiveness

Remember to subscribe my full feed to get latest postsalohanemahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01451891064499234378noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6681900966656864223.post-14361078458687121282008-07-26T13:00:00.000-07:002008-07-26T13:00:00.412-07:00Getting Enough Sleep At Night May Just Help You Lose WeightGetting Enough Sleep At Night May Just Help You Lose Weight was written by Meri Raffetto from reallivingnutrition.com

Eating the right foods and exercising regularly have been the hallmark of most weight management programs for the last 50 years. We are learning more and more about how other lifestyle factors affect weight such as stress, hormones, and other emotional triggers. Now it appears we can add sleep to the growing list of lifestyle factors that affect our weight.
A recent study published in the Annals of Internal Medicine suggest that getting enough sleep may help with your weight loss efforts. The study found that sleep deprived volunteers (4 hours per night) had a 28% increase in a hormone called grehlin, which is an appetite stimulant. They also found an 18% decrease in leptin, a hormone that acts as an appetite suppressant, and 23% increase in overall appetite. To make matters worse the participants had an increase appetite specifically for calorie dense foods including sweets, salty and starchy foods.

Although this was a small study, which will need more follow up; it is not the first to suggest how sleep affects weight. A 1999 University of Chicago study showed that sleep loss could affect the way we metabolize carbohydrates resulting in glucose intolerance and possibly leading to increased hunger and a slowed metabolism. It is also important to note that over the past 40 years, self-reported sleep duration in the U.S. has decreased by almost 2 hours according to Karine Spiegel, PhD and colleagues from University of Chicago in Illinois and overweight and obesity have been on the rise.

More studies are needed to show that these results are reproducible and to demonstrate a cause and effect relationship. However, getting a good night sleep is good advice either way. There is no doubt about it that a lack of sleep interferes with our energy levels during the day and can cause us to skip our exercise routine because we are far too tired. How often has lack of sleep interfered with your activity level? This alone is good enough reason to add a good night's sleep (8-9 hours) to your weight management plan.

Copyright Meri Raffetto, 2005
Related posts:

Sleep Helps Curb Cravings

Natural Sleep Aids For A Restful Sleep In Night

Burn Fat While You Sleep

Take The "Die" Out Of Dieting - Tips For Stress Free Weight Loss

Good Night, Sleep Tight!

Can Laughter Be A Cure For Obesity?

Energy Levels - How to Supercharge Your Energy Levels through Exercise

Stop Losing Sleep, Start Living

Sleep And Weight Loss

Remember to subscribe my full feed to get latest postsalohanemahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01451891064499234378noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6681900966656864223.post-45195583007534252752008-07-26T05:00:00.000-07:002008-07-26T05:00:00.825-07:00Does Fat Free Really Mean Free Of Fat?Does Fat Free Really Mean Free Of Fat? was written by Jerry Byler from WeightLossProduct.blogspot.com

Do you know what the words really mean on food labels?
In this article, you'll discover everything you need to know about how to interpret food labels and make the right food choices.

So what does "fat free" really mean?

To be labeled "Fat Free", the food must contain less than "1/2 gram of fat per serving.

To be labeled "Low Fat", the food must contain 3 grams or less of fat per serving.

To be labeled "Reduced Fat", the food must be at least 25 percent lower in fat than a comparable food.

To be labeled "Light", the food must contain 1/3 fewer calories, OR "1/2 the fat OR 2/3 the sodium of a comparable food (but not necessarily all three!).

Some foods (especially meat and dairy products) appear to have less fat than they really do. For example, if a milk or cheese label reads 2% milk or 2% cheese, this means that 2 percent of the product volume (NOT the calories) comes from milk fat.

You can use a little math to discover how much fat these products actually contain.

First, find the total calories per serving and the fat calories per serving. For example if the total calories per serving are 80 and the fat calories per serving are 50, divide the fat calories per serving by the total calories per serving.

Then, multiply that number by 100 and you'll have the total percent of fat calories in the food. In this example, 50 fat calories divided by 80 total calories equals .625 times 100 equals 62"1/2%. In this example, nearly 63 percent of the total calories of this food are from fat!

Also, using the math above, you can figure out how much fat that 2 percent milk, 2 percent cheese, 2 percent cottage cheese and lean ground beef contain. You'll probably discover these foods are mush "fatter" than you realized!

Trans fats should be avoided as much as possible as they can increase your risk of heart disease. Trans fats are also known as hydrogenated fats and are added to many processed foods including most baked foods (crackers, cookies, breads, etc.).

If the food contains trans fats, the ingredient label will usually read: contains hydrogenated oil OR partially hydrogenated oil OR vegetable shortening OR margarine. Avoid these foods like the plague!

By knowing how to read food labels and understanding the word "fat", you can purchase diet foods more wisely and lose weight successfully.
Related posts:

Two ways to start burning fat quickly

Body Fat Distribution Factors

How To Burn Fat Fast: Go For Speedy-Burn, Not Crash-Burn

Eat Fat To Burn Fat

Resistance Training First; Fat Burning Second for Weight Loss

6 Exercises to burn fat you need to know

Burn Fat While You Sleep

How to Exercise and Burn Fat on a Busy Schedule

List of foods that burn fat

Remember to subscribe my full feed to get latest postsalohanemahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01451891064499234378noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6681900966656864223.post-54397913897565074132008-07-26T01:00:00.000-07:002008-07-26T04:30:43.684-07:00Will I Get Faster Results With A Personal Trainer? Will I Get Faster Results With A Personal Trainer? was written by Matt Clarkson from freeinformationonline.com

If you pick the right personal trainer...you'll most definitely see faster results. If the personal trainer is registered with a governing body, it's likely the personal trainer would have gone through the proper training and education process. A personal trainers job is to motivate and inspire a client to push far beyond the boundaries of what they would normally do if they were exercising by themselves.
A personal trainer should also help the client understand why they need to do certain exercises depending on the outcome of the client.

For the average person who wants to get great, consistent results, and who might need just a little bit of external motivation, then a personal trainer is a great choice.

A fitness plan is great for someone who has a certain goal or outcome they want to achieve within a certain time frame. If you're the type of person whom doesn't stick to your daily fitness routine without an actual fitness plan...then definitely go for it! If you want a fitness plan that actually works, make sure you get the advice of a certified fitness instructor/personal trainer. There is plenty of great information on getting a fitness plan on the net for free.

If you are trying to lose weight through a fitness plan, also consult a dietician to help you fast track your fitness results. A Fitness Plan mixed with healthy eating habits is a win, win situation all around!

Depending on the outcome you want, your fitness training should be tailored to suit. If you are trying to lose weight and 'tone' up, your fitness training will need to be more intense than if you were 'getting over an injury'. To get the best results with your fitness training, it is best to book in with a personal trainer for a one-on-one Fitness Training assessment and work out together what you need to do to get the results you want.

Rushing into your fitness training program without the proper education, support and professional help could also mean injury in the short and long term. If you haven't undertaken any fitness training for some time, definitely seek a certified fitness trainer's help. Fitness training should be enjoyable, un-intimidating and results driven all at the same time. It's never too early or too late to get started with your fitness training program and if you get the right help, you'll never look back!
Related posts:

Grapevine Personal Fitness Trainer

Three Ways to Improve your Fitness Levels

Avoid Commont Fitness Pitfalls

How to Exercise and Burn Fat on a Busy Schedule

Information About Weight Training Routines For Beginners

Take The "Die" Out Of Dieting - Tips For Stress Free Weight Loss

Energy Levels - How to Supercharge Your Energy Levels through Exercise

5 Amazing Diet Tips For Powerful Weight Loss

Special Weightloss Boot Camps

Remember to subscribe my full feed to get latest postsalohanemahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01451891064499234378noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6681900966656864223.post-36774495213539762752008-07-25T17:00:00.000-07:002008-07-25T17:00:00.840-07:00Weight Loss Pills: Miracle Drugs Or Money Wasters? Weight Loss Pills: Miracle Drugs Or Money Wasters? was written by Edward Group from ghchealth.com

Losing weight is a lifelong commitment. It takes patience and self-discipline to stick with a weight loss program and wait for the end results. Many people want to find the magic shortcut that will make the process just a little shorter and less difficult. Many over-the-counter and prescription pills are purchased for just this purpose. They are available from pharmacies, natural health food stores, and even online. But are these weight loss pills the miracle drugs they claim to be? Or are they just a waste of money?

How Does A Weight Loss Pill Work?

Prescription weight loss pills work in one of three ways. Most of the pills on the market simply suppress the appetite and help you eat less. Others aim to increase your feeling of fullness after eating. Some of the newest weight loss pills on the market work by inhibiting the absorption of fat. Over the counter weight loss pills usually contain a stimulant that helps to decrease your appetite. The only complete weight management system which I approve of is the Slimirexa system.

Who Should Take Weight Loss Pills?

Weight loss pills are most often recommended for people who are medically obese…people whose weight is causing serious health concerns. Even with weight loss pills, the treatment of obesity involves exercise, counseling, dietary changes, and behavioral modifications. But weight loss pills are not only used by obese people. They are also sought after by people who want a quicker way to achieve the weight goals they have set for themselves. As long as men and women continue to compare themselves to the select few beautiful, skinny models on TV screens and magazine pages, there will be a strong market for weight loss pills.

Could Weight Loss Pills Be Dangerous?

Weight loss pills are a medication just like any other type of drug. You need to be very careful about the ingredients of any medication that you place in your body.

ALWAYS Consult Your Doctor

Work in consultation with your natural health care provider if you decide to try a over the counter weight loss pill to help you lose weight. Your doctor can assess your overall weight management goals and he or she can help you monitor the success or side effects of the medication. Be very cautious about the weight loss pill you decide to try.

Know Your Source

Weight loss pills purchased over the internet may be coming from the garage of a t-shirt salesman (this actually happened!) If you decide to buy your weight loss pills online, make sure you research the company you are buying from so that you can be sure they send you the appropriate supplementation.

Read the Ingredients Some weight loss pills contain the ingredient ephedra (also known as ephedrine and ma huang.) This stimulant has recently come under a lot of scrutiny from the Food and Drug Administration for its links to illness and side effects. Ephedra has been shown to cause heart attacks, seizures and strokes. It is a powerful and dangerous stimulant that can damage the central nervous system and the heart. The most complete system available is the Slimirex system scheduled for release in April 2005.

Watch Out For Dependency

Weight loss pills that contain amphetamine or other stimulants may cause withdrawal symptoms when you decide to discontinue the medication. You may become addicted to these types of pills and be unable to stop taking them. The long term use of weight loss pills may increase your chances of developing serious side effects. Stimulant based weight loss pills can cause Adrenal Burnout Syndrome, which can take years to fix.

The Bottom Line On Weight Loss Pills

ALWAYS check with your health care provider. Make sure he or she knows which pill you are going to try and arrange for your progress to be monitored.

If your doctor prescribes a weight loss pill for you, make sure you follow the instructions he or she gives you. If you decide to purchase an over the counter weight loss pill, be sure to use Slimirex. DO NOT OVERDOSE to try and gain faster results.

Use weight loss pills (Slimirex) in combination with behavioral modifications, dietary changes, and an exercise program to ensure that if you do achieve weight loss results with the pill, you will be able to discontinue their use without hampering your progress.

Monitor yourself carefully while you take the weight loss pill. Record your progress as well as any side effects you may be feeling. And be sure to report both to your health care provider.

Unless your doctor advises you differently, plan to take the weight loss pill for a maximum of six to eight weeks. These products are not meant for long term usage and side effects can occur.

If you are not losing weight, stop taking the weight loss pills. Consult with your health care provider on any lifestyle or medication changes you can incorporate to achieve results.

Related posts:

Do Weight Loss Pills Really Work?

Weight Loss Supplements - How much do they cost?

Popular Diet Comparisons

Alli weight loss pill

Are Weight Loss Supplements Right For You?

How To Lose Weight Without Losing Your Mind

Know about weight loss and the diet pills acomplia to resolve the issue.

All Natural Weight Loss Plan

Most read posts

Remember to subscribe my full feed to get latest postsalohanemahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01451891064499234378noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6681900966656864223.post-7562731571673955632008-07-25T13:00:00.000-07:002008-07-25T13:00:02.616-07:00The Low Carb Diet F.A.Q.The Low Carb Diet F.A.Q. was written by Niall Roche from low-carb-advice.com

When most people think of low carb diets they automatically think Atkins. For obvious reasons. Dr. Robert Atkins formulated the original low carb diet in 1972 and was met a with a hail of ridicule and negativity from the medical community at large.

The Atkins Diet, since renamed to the Atkins Nutritional Approach, works on a very simple principle. Carbohydrates are what our body normally use to produce energy. If you restrict the carbohydrate intake of a normal person their metabolism changes. Changes? Yes your body looks to the next available energy source which is....fat. So now instead of burning carbohydrates for energy your body does the same thing with your existing fat deposits.

In a low carbohydrate diet you actually increase your intake of fat and pure protein as opposed to reducing it. In theory the more fat you eat the more fat you burn because your body is now using fat for energy. It's common to see low carb dieters eating enormous steaks smothered in butter with fried eggs and mushrooms on the side. A very high fat meal but also a perfect low carbohydrate meal.

The fat burning process is called lipolysis. As the fat is being broken down for energy a secondary phase called ketosis occurs. Ketones are the fragments of fat being broken down in the process of lipolysis hence the name ketosis.

Ketosis has a single nasty side effect -bad breath. For whatever biological reason the conversion of fat to energy can lead to really, really bad breath. This is a common complaint amongst followers of Atkins and similar low carbohydrate diets.

Amongst some of the bad press that low carb diets receive are worrying stories of people dying while on a low carb diet. These hyped up media tales are tied to one word - ketoacidosis. This particular condition occurs when a person goes on a zero carbohydrate diet and/or suffers from diabetes. During the ketosis phase the blood becomes overly acidic to a critical point. Coma and death can follow quickly if medical attention is not immediately sought.

Does everybody following a low carb diet run the risk of ketoacidosis? Not unless you have a history of diabetes (diagnosed or undiagnosed) and you also totally eliminate carbohydrates from your diet. Even then only a small number of people are actually susceptible to the effects of ketoacidosis when compared to the general population.

The results that low carb diets produce are hard to argue with. Rapid weight loss in a short space of time whilst on a high fat, high protein diet. These results fly in the face of conventional medical wisdom and serve to constantly annoy the established medical community.

Low carb dieting is not going to disappear any time soon. Especially not as long as major Hollywood celebrities are successfully using Atkins and showing off their results to the world media.

Related posts:

Low-Carb Diets: Are You Losing More than Weight?

High Carb & Low Carb Diets: How To Avoid The Dangers

Low Carb Diet Secrets Revealed!

Low Carb And Low Fat Diets...A Scam?!

Is Low Carb Weight Loss Really Just Water Loss?

Exercise And Low Carb Diet's Make Poor Partners

Low-Carb Diets - An Introduction

7 Reasons Low Carb Diets Are Wrong

Who Said Low Carb Diets Ever Meant No-Carb?

Remember to subscribe my full feed to get latest postsalohanemahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01451891064499234378noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6681900966656864223.post-88986359363838272112008-07-25T05:00:00.000-07:002008-07-25T05:00:02.721-07:00The Great 8 Eating Tips For Fast Weight Loss @ Body Perfect Fitness The Great 8 Eating Tips For Fast Weight Loss @ Body Perfect Fitness was written by Robert Adams from Body-Perfect-Fitness.com

Low Carb, Low Fat, More protein, Eat all the fat you want..... These are the many things we hear as we are bombarded with the latest and NOT always the greatest diet and eating tips when trying to find the Silver Bullet for permanent weight loss.

Well I thought that we would talk about common sense proven tips that will ensure that along with a solid fitness program, will help support your fitness and health goals for life.

Eating Tip 1

Eat Slow- If you read about the French Paradox, which discusses why the French eat a lot of fatty foods, but are a leaner society than that of the United States. They take their meals very seriously and it is one of the most important times of the day. You will get multiple benefits from this tip. Eating Slow will help your body absorb the food at the right level allowing you to fill up much quicker as it will not provide a tendency for you to OVEREAT!!! The other awesome benefit is that you can spend more time with your family so that you can share the important things in life with each other!!!

Eating Tip 2

Eat 5-6 times per day. Do not allow your blood sugar levels to drop, in between meals. By eating more often and eating the right types of foods that are on the low end of the glycemic index, you can keep your blood sugar levels more even throughout the day, and ensure that you are not getting those mid-afternoon yawns and also help keep the excess weight off. Remember that when you spike your blood sugar by eating simple sugars and refined carbohydrates, this will potentially cause your body to store fat!!!

Eating Tip 3

Eat Your Breakfast... I was bad at this many years ago, but I learned to fuel up early in the day. Eating a good solid breakfast to start your day helps supply you with the fuel you need to get started, especially if you are incorporating a early morning fitness program in to your day. You need the fuel to get your engine going in the morning. Do not starve your body early, because you may have the tendency to binge eat later, because your body gets into the craving mode. Feed your body early!!

Eating Tip 4

Slow down as the sun goes down. What do I mean by this? Well just as important as it is to eat a great breakfast to start the day, it is also as equally important to reduce your food consumption as the day goes on. So plan to eat a good solid breakfast, a good lunch, and reduce your meal portions at dinner time. Remember as you get closer to bedtime your body starts to wind down and you will not have the same opportunity at night to burn those consumed meal calories as you did earlier in the day. So eat more early and back down as you reach sun down.

Eating Tip 5

Give yourself 3 hours!!! Yes 3 hours before going to bed. Do not consume anymore calories. As I mentioned before, your body starts to slow down as the day goes on and gets ready for sleep. You do not want to consume a lot of calories right before you go to bed, because you will end of potentially storing those calories as FAT!!!

Your body sometimes give you a false sense of being hungry as you bedtime nears. You get those 9pm cravings... And a lot of people end up hitting the Refrigerator and over-consuming right before bed time... Not good for managing your weight and body fat %. If you just can't resist the munchies, then what I do is eat a few high good fat nuts. Like unsalted Almonds skin-on (good for fiber) or a couple spoonfuls of no sugar added all natural peanut butter. Eating a good quality fat food will satisfy your craving and will keep you from binging on something with lots of bad carbohydrates or simple sugars, like ice cream, cake or cookies.

Eating Tip 6

Stay focused on eating green in every meal. Always incorporate a good high quality low glycemic index dark green vegetable with each meal. I suggest things like spinach or romaine lettuce in your lunch time salads. Eating broccoli, asparagus, or steamed spinach as your vegetable at dinner time. All of these dark green vegetables supply your body with great vitamins and nutrients as well as being great sources of fiber and are naturally low on the glycemic index scale and will keep your blood sugar levels from spiking after eating. So think Dark green at meal time and challenge yourself to keep it as part of each and every eating event.

Eating Tip 7

Blend your foods.. Blending your foods means making sure that if you are eating a food item that does contain carbohydrates make sure that you incorporate a good low fat protein along with it. Eating a low carb tortilla wrap where the first ingredient is whole wheat flour that is unrefined. Add lean chicken breast as part of your filling in the wrap, maybe with some thinly shredded romaine lettuce and other veggies.

Eating Tip 8

Use splenda as your sweetener of choice, when looking for a simple sugar replacement. I have tried many sugar subs over the years an no other product has the taste of sugar like splenda does. Not equal and surely not sweet and low. Splenda is outstanding for sprinkling on low glycemic fresh fruit like blueberries, raspberries and strawberries, and I also use it to sweeten my drink of choice. Caffeine Free Green Tea that I infuse with cinnamon stick and whole cloves. What a refreshing cold beverage that keeps the caffeine out of your diet, provides you a great antioxidant and does not spike your blood sugar levels by using the no calorie sweetner in splenda.

So I hope you enjoy my GREAT 8!!!

These eating tips will help keep you on the right track, when it comes to living a healthy lifestyle.. All of these tips are the tools that I live by every day....

Stay tuned next month for more healthy eating tips @ Body Perfect Fit!!!

Related posts:

Losing Weight Is Like Eating Ice Cream

Avoid Commont Fitness Pitfalls

Grapevine Personal Fitness Trainer

Three Ways to Improve your Fitness Levels

Changing Your Eating Habits

Fitness Trainer

Eating healthy for weight loss naturally

How To Get Slim With Healthy Eating Habits

Vegetarianism vs. Meat Eating

Remember to subscribe my full feed to get latest postsalohanemahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01451891064499234378noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6681900966656864223.post-60561308253001043242008-07-25T01:00:00.000-07:002008-07-25T01:00:00.822-07:00The Diet Debate Ended The Diet Debate Ended was written by Dr. Jamie Fettig from HealthyEatingDiet.com

Which diet is the best? ALL of them and NONE of them.

I am going to let you in on a little secret. It often shocks and disrupts people’s world, but you need to hear it. You ready? Everyone is different.

"Everyone is different," something everyone knows but yet no one really takes into account when dishing out recommendations and advice. The reason why all diets work is because they work for at least one person, usually the one telling everyone else about it. And the reason none of the diets work is because no one diet is right for everyone.

So what do you eat? I have made it really simple. Eat whatever you inner knowing tells you to eat as long as it is fresh and pure. That is all you have to do. The answers that suddenly become relevant are to the questions of what is fresh and pure and how does your inner knowing tell you what to eat?

Fresh means not in a box, not in a can and if you let it set out too long, it will spoil or go bad. A simple guideline is anything around the outside of a grocery store: Fruits, vegetables, bulk food, nuts and seeds, fish, meat, dairy, etc. This food is fresh. Frozen food is better than canned or in a box, but not as good as fresh. So if you have to buy something from the middle of the grocery store, frozen is a better option.

Pure means nothing added. No sugar, sweeteners, artificial ingredients, preservatives, chemicals, pesticides, herbicides or any other poisons they put on or in your food. Said another way, like you would find the food in nature before man tried to improve it. This usually means organic.

Follow your inner knowing eating fresh and pure food. So what is your inner knowing? Some call it your intuition, your inner intelligence and your gut knowing. It is the knowing you have before you think. It is that knowing that comes from within your soul or heart that is smarter than your mind. Your inner knowing talks to you all the time. You even hear your inner knowing it is just many of us usually don’t listen.

You know how when you are full and you "know" you should stop eating and often even say it out loud, but then keep eating anyway. This is exactly what I mean. When choosing what to eat your inner knowing will tell you what you "want." And as long as you are choosing from fresh and pure options eat whatever your inner knowing tells you to eat.

How much food do you eat? Eat as much or as little as your inner knowing tells you to eat. Some days it might be 3,000 calories, others it might be 1,000. You no longer have to worry about counting calories or carbs. Just eat as much as your inner knowing says. No more and no less.

When you listen to your inner knowing and choose from fresh and pure options, you will be eating the perfect "diet" for you. No more starvation, no more restrictions and no more counting. You will have Freedom from the shackles of diets for life.

Related posts:

A Low Carb Diet - Facts You Need To Know About

How does the hoodia diet pills work?

A Low GI Diet And High Fiber Foods

How High-Carb Diet Plans Treat Carbohydrates

How to Incorporate More "Green" Into Your Diet

Ancient Olympians Followed Atkins Diet

Diet or Lifestyle

Tips for Maximizing Your Weight Loss While on an HCG Diet

Low Carb Diet Secrets Revealed!

Remember to subscribe my full feed to get latest postsalohanemahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01451891064499234378noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6681900966656864223.post-69964149977384844122008-07-24T17:00:00.000-07:002008-07-24T18:18:44.353-07:00The Big FAT LieThe Big FAT Lie was written by Lori Wilton

Over two thirds of Americans are over weight, and half of them are considered obese. Most of the remaining third of Americans are concerned about becoming overweight! While we are obsessed with avoiding food that is high in fat, America has the dubious distinction of its population having the highest percentage of overweight people of any nation in the world! England is number two!
One of the most common and harmful misunderstandings is the misinformation (lie) that we are fat because we eat too much fat. Though eating excess fat can contribute, the primary culprit for excess body fat and many degenerative diseases such as heart disease, cancer and diabetes is NOT eating foods high in fat, but eating too much carbohydrates and sugar, and especially in combination with fat, such as French Fries and corn or potato chips. People on a high carbohydrate and low fat diet tend to be more unhealthy, carry more excess body fat and don't live as long.

Putting the Brakes to Your Metabolism!

What creates excess body fat, more than anything else, is a high RATIO of the carbohydrates to protein and fat, and especially certain types of carbohydrates that have a high conversion rate to fat. When the percentage of a meal (not just for the day) is higher in sugar or carbohydrates (a long chain of sugar molecules), much more of that food will be converted to fat instead of being burned as energy (calories). The effect of this is putting the brakes on your metabolism, which results in lower energy and greater storage of fat. Obviously, this is NOT what you want!

Plus this sets up a vicious cycle of over eating. Once the carbohydrates are converted to fat, you get a blood sugar drop, which makes you hungry for more carbohydrates. So you eat more to raise your blood sugar, and the whole vicious cycle repeats! Soon, you've gained weight, and feel even more like a failure.

According to the Glycemic Research Institute, many of the "fat-free" foods are much more fattening than they were before the fat was removed, because sugar has been added (and often disguised) to compensate for the low fat!

This is because carbohydrates and sugar, and especially certain carbohydrates, stimulate insulin production. Insulin directs your body to convert the food to fat and store it as fat instead of just burning it as energy. To measure this fat conversion and storage effect, foods are rated by what is called the glycemic index. The higher the index, the higher percentage of that food and the other foods eaten with it, will be converted to fat, regardless of the fat content of the food.

So for an example, eating high glycemic foods like baked potato, rice cakes, corn flakes or cooked oatmeal which are low in fat, is more fattening than eating a juicy beef steak or a bowl of ice cream!

High Fat Conversion Foods

These are some common foods with their glycemic index numbers, that are especially high on this index, and thus stimulate fat storage:

Common sugar (sucrose)-92
Macaroni and cheese-92
Potatoes (mashed-100; French fries-107; baked-121; potato chips-high)
Corn-78; pop corn-79; corn chips-105; corn flakes-119
Pizza-86
White rice-83; brown rice-79
White and wheat bread-101
Cold cereals (most). E.g. Life-94; Grapenuts-96; Cheerios-106; Total-109
Cooked cereals (e.g. Cream of Wheat-100, oatmeal-87 (steel cut is less)
Bananas-77
Most juices and all drink mixes and soft drinks (97)
Desserts (ice cream-87); donuts-108
Fat-free bottled "lite" dressings (due to added corn syrup and maltodextrins).
High fructose corn syrup-89
Maltodextrins-150 (added to many foods, but deceptively not counted as sugar!)

Did you notice that some of these foods are worse than pure sugar? It is wise to eat these foods sparingly. And when you do eat these foods, balance the glycemic index for the whole meal by eating low index foods with them.

Fat Burning Foods

Here are some of the foods that are rated as having a low glycemic index:

Fructose-32
Trutina Dulcem (a fruit sugar fifteen times sweeter than regular sugar)
"Super sugars" (glyconutrients)
Stevia-though not "approved" by the FDA as a sweetener, it is often used as such
High protein foods (e.g. fish, meat and eggs)
Most vegetables including sweet potatoes and yams
Beans-40
Salads-low
Avocado-low
Stone ground bread and sprouted grain-low
Barley-36
Rye-48
Most pastas-varies; spaghetti-59 (but very low nutritional value)
Berries-low
Cherries-32
Apples-54
Oranges-63
Peaches-60
Pears-53
Dairy products; whole milk-39 (there are other concerns mentioned previously)
Soy milk-43
Seeds and nuts-as low as 21 (peanuts)
Butter (in moderation-far superior to margarine)
Olive oil
Soy beans-25
Celery-very very low

There is one other huge advantage to using low glycemic foods besides weight control: longevity! According a study by T. Par entitled "Insulin Exposure and Aging Theory" in the Journal of Gerontology - 1997; 43:182-200, high insulin levels, which result from consuming high glycemic foods, promotes accelerated aging. Both calorie restriction and a low glycemic index diet appear to be important for longevity, BUT a diet of low glycemic foods is even more effective than calorie restriction for longevity.
Related posts:

Two ways to start burning fat quickly

Resistance Training First; Fat Burning Second for Weight Loss

How To Lose Lower Belly Fat Fast

List of foods that burn fat: apple

How to Exercise and Burn Fat on a Busy Schedule

Fat-Burning Foods

Pernament Fat Loss With Simple Steps

Walking For Fat Loss?

How To Burn Fat Fast: Go For Speedy-Burn, Not Crash-Burn

Remember to subscribe my full feed to get latest postsalohanemahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01451891064499234378noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6681900966656864223.post-49265033722633212462008-07-24T13:00:00.000-07:002008-07-24T13:00:00.525-07:00Simple Plans For Social Eating And Travel Simple Plans For Social Eating And Travel was written by Fran Watson from franwatson.ca

It's one thing to stick with your diet regimen when you're at home, in control of the contents of your refrigerator and your portion sizes. But what about going out to dinner with friends? Worse, how do you stay on track when your dream vacation has you seated by the dessert cart at every meal?

Eating right when you're out of your comfort zone can actually be easier than when you are at home, so long as you think smart and plan ahead. Focus on these simple tips to help you enjoy your dinners out on the town without compromising your weight loss goals. Simple Plans

Incorporate meals out like any others. Don't skip meals beforehand. Plan. Don't be afraid to call ahead and find out what the specials are going to be and figure out a couple of choices. If that's not an option, ask someone with whom you're comfortable sharing your dietary concerns to help you. Tell him or her what foods you can eat (or what you cannot eat) and ask the person to fill a plate for you. Or second, walk up to the buffet table(s) beforehand with no plate. Just take a casual stroll around and see which foods are being served. Then decide if you would like to ask someone else to place your selections on a plate for you or if you would prefer to get them yourself.

Eat slowly. Not only will this help with your digestion, it slows your eating down so that you notice sooner when you are full. Set your eating utensils down while you chew. Have a sip of water between bites.

Have fun along the way

Eating out is a way of building relationships, to enjoy the company of others. Unfortunately, for those of us looking to cut back on what and how much we eat, this can make previously enjoyable dinner dates a dreaded and avoided task. It doesn't have to be this way. Opt for a restaurant with salads and low-fat menu choices instead of a place with all deep-fried batter-dipped menu items and heavy desserts.

Another option is to choose an old favourite and split it with a partner. This way, you won't feel deprived and your portion size will automatically be limited. Not only will your waistlines be smaller, but so will your bills!

Avoid temptation

There is no law that says you must have a basket of bread, butter and oil before a meal out. If it is on your table when you are seated, request that it be brought back to the kitchen.

Set yourself up for success when you order by requesting they leave off the oils and sauces. Request that your meat and vegetables be steamed, not fried. Order a salad (with light or no dressing, on the side) or side of veggies instead of fries or mashed potatoes.

It's all in the portions

Restaurant portions are significantly larger than actual portion sizes; a half-size will more than adequately replace your normal meal size. Most restaurants offer half-sizes (at smaller prices). If these are not listed on the menu, just ask, and your request will more than likely be accommodated. Alternately, you can request your doggie bag in advance. If they don't offer to package half your meal for you, decide for yourself (before you begin eating) what an appropriate portion size is and wrap up the remainder.

There's no rule that you must order your meal from the entrée list. Peruse the appetizer menu for attractive (and smaller) options. You can also create a delicious and unique meal by combining various side dishes.

Drink plenty of water before you leave for the restaurant, and while you wait for the food to arrive. This will help fill you up and prevent hunger-inspired indulgences.

Request your salad (and/or soup, if it's not creamy) be brought out first, and dig in. By the time your food arrives, you should be able to more rationally determine what portion sizes are appropriate, and if anything needs to be avoided.

Do not order dessert until you are completely finished with your meal. You might be too full to eat dessert and remember, even if everyone is splurging on the dessert menu, you don't have to join in just to be part of the "gang." Enjoy a cup of coffee or tea to end your meal. Or ask someone to split a dessert with you if there is something you really want.

Distract yourself

Vacations should be a time to indulge oneself and have fun. Though it does lead to eating out more often, it also removes many of the day's temptations. For example, you won't be wandering over to the kitchen when you're bored, or overindulging at the grocery store and then feeling "obligated" to eat what you've bought.

Spend time in the pool, on the sand, and at the shops, not at the restaurants. Most vacation hot spots are ideal for eating on the go; you can pick up a small meal from a roadside vendor and eat it while walking the boardwalk and enjoying the sights and sounds.

Don't make food about suffering. If the smell of saltwater taffy engulfs you, treat yourself-to one. Having a small amount will indulge your craving without compromising your diet.

Try making a rule like, "If I eat, I need to enjoy a fun activity, too: a walk, bike ride, swim, tennis, putt-putt, etc." Then coordinate daily "pairings" or events with meal planning. Life, including vacations, does not have to be all about food. Nor does it have to focus on food.

Don't stress out

With the right approach, eating out can be a pleasurable experience. Remember, a successful diet is a lifelong lifestyle modification. You need to be able to incorporate healthful eating out activities into your routine.

Vacations and meals out are intended to be pleasurable. If you do go a little overboard, it's important not to beat yourself up over it. Forgive yourself and get on with life. Simply use that experience to learn where you can improve the next time you are in that situation and then add some extra activities to your schedule. Swim some laps. Walk or jog. Leave your wallet in the trunk and go to a mall for a shop-walk. Take a tour. Visit a museum. Enjoy a park and feed the ducks. Just get out, focus on something else and enjoy life.

Related posts:

Losing Weight Is Like Eating Ice Cream

Changing Your Eating Habits

Eating healthy for weight loss naturally

How To Get Slim With Healthy Eating Habits

Vegetarianism vs. Meat Eating

Four Easy Steps to Adopting Healthier Eating Habits

Why eating low fat can make you gain fat

Take The "Die" Out Of Dieting - Tips For Stress Free Weight Loss

Help me, I'm addicted to sugar

Remember to subscribe my full feed to get latest postsalohanemahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01451891064499234378noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6681900966656864223.post-52675031862928961502008-07-24T05:00:00.000-07:002008-07-24T05:00:03.114-07:00The Diet Dilemma. Why Diets Don't Work The Diet Dilemma. Why Diets Don't Work was written by Norbert Haag

<img alt="The Diet Dilemma. Maybe it is, but the fact of the matter is that if you buy a dieting product for a specific time and you do not need it any more after, say, 6 weeks you are a lost costumer. If all customers would do the same the business would cannibalize itself by curing diseases it is living from.

And, because the above fact is a general principle in every business (keep your customers and make them buy constantly) and industry I can think about, huge amount of the players run by the same mind set. Maybe the pharmaceutical and food industry for example?

Was only a question not a statement.

Bottom-line the interest in keeping people healthy, at a healthy weight or help them through dieting to get there and stay there without a need for their products anymore is at best very limited by those who make a living out of selling things like drugs, diet food or even restaurant and fast food chains.

Keep an open mind and raise all kinds of questions before you decide to use any industry dieting product to loose weight. The common experience is that weight loss using certain products without a change in mind set (more on this later) leads to building up weight again after a short period of success.

How many times have you dieted, lost some weight just to get it back – and maybe even more of it – only months after you ended your diet? See what I mean?

Think about it for a moment. Why does our body store more and more fat in their tissue? Maybe because it gets nutrition it can not use up within an appropriate time?

In fact our body is a very efficient system that makes sure all cells get energy and it can survive without getting fed for some time by storing energy in the form of fat. Just in case of a famine.

If we incorporate more food on a constant basis than our body can use up, we store more and more fat in our tissue – transform it into energy and let the cells use it –. This in turn makes us more immobile and puts extra tear and wear on our skeleton, especially the joints.

Worse, after we gained weight our tendency for moving gets weaker and weaker, because moving becomes more and more painful.

Classical vicious cycle. The only way to balance the additional energy and prevent it from becoming stored as fat would be additional movement, that is getting the cells (especially the muscle cells) to work more and to use up more energy. Yet, this doesn’t happen. We get more and more propelled into a "don’t move" behavior.

There is a second reason for overeating that adds to the issue. Eating feels sooooo gooood. Right?

We all link massive joy and pleasure to eating. Which makes sense as it helps us survive. The problem is, that we link massive pleasure to a nutrition that doesn’t keep us healthy.

Now, at some point in time the pain of being fat – even if we only believe it – becomes more evident and we look for a way to reduce our stored energy.

We are ready for a diet. We are ready to take some short term pain for the outlook of long term pleasure.

Now we look for a way to keep the pain at a minimum. The industry answer is often using something that makes us feel we have a full stomach. We buy the wonder drug and start dieting.

Once we done that our body starts thinking, hey, a famine and releases some of the fat to overcome the threat. All the while we consciously fight with the pain of not eating what we like to eat but are still committed to follow through.

At the end of the famine, that is at the end of your dieting you have lost weight. But now your mind and your body are sad of the famine (your body) and the pain it brought (your mind).

You deserve pleasure, so you start eating all the nice stuff you have missed so long and have linked pleasure to. At the same time your body starts to immediately store fat again, just to be prepared for the next famine.

The result is devastating. You gain your weight back quicker than you would have built it up in the first place.

This is the reason why diets usually do not work.

What you need to constantly reduce your weight to a healthy level is threefold.

First you need to switch to a nutrition that is healthy and balanced (and fast food and convenience food does not go into this category).

Second you need to stop starving (dieting) to convince your body there is no more famine to come and it does not have to exploit every piece of energy your fed it.

Third you need to find a way to turn around your beliefs about what is pleasurable and what is painful when it comes to eating.

If you don’t turn your beliefs about how pleasurable eating a healthy nutrition is (yes it is really as pleasurable as any other food) and on the other side build up a belief how disgusting the old kind of food is you are not going to succeed.

Turning your beliefs is certainly the most unusual advice you heard. But it is the only way to ensure you will constantly keep your weight at a healthy level.

If you have to fight pain, if you have to fight the feeling of a loss (I can never eat chocolate) you always will link pain to where you are and as soon as the pain level gets to high you will do something against it. This do something is eat the stuff you have linked pleasure to like fast-food, chocolate or whatever.

Once you done this you feel guilty and that is painful. Guess what your reaction will be to overcome that painful guilt? Yes, eat some more as it is the pleasure of the moment that makes you overcome the pain of guilt.

Bottom line. Overweight is not resolved by dieting, overweight is resolved through change in our mind. Dieting without changing what we connect pain and pleasure to has only two effects, it ensures that the producers of diet products have a constant income stream from you and it makes sure you spend money without getting the results you expect.

Do you think it is worth a second thought if I might be right? You can have the weight you want constantly and without any effort. All you have to do is change what you link pain and pleasure to.

How? There are many ways to do this but you need some assistance either through books or, better from a real person that is trained and knowledgeable in this area like NLP practitioners or Ericsonian hypnotists (see my article about hypnosis on that topic).

Related posts:

Are Weight Loss Supplements Worth It?

Take The "Die" Out Of Dieting - Tips For Stress Free Weight Loss

Do Weight Loss Pills Really Work?

A Low GI Diet And High Fiber Foods

Don't Blame Me If I'm Fat!

Tips for Maximizing Your Weight Loss While on an HCG Diet

You Can Lose Weight on a High Carbohydrate Diet

Calorie Cycling Weight Loss

Following slim people's habits to lose weight

Remember to subscribe my full feed to get latest postsalohanemahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01451891064499234378noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6681900966656864223.post-88406562408297968542008-07-24T01:00:00.000-07:002008-07-24T01:00:01.810-07:00Six Super Easy Weight Loss Tips Six Super Easy Weight Loss Tips was written by Deirdre Jones from guidetofatloss.blogspot.com

If you have been trying to lose weight permanently, then these six weight loss tips may be just what you need to kick start your weight loss program. You may have heard some of them before, but if you make them a part of your core goal, you will not have as much difficulty achieving your weight loss goals.

Include exercise in your lifestyle

If you want to achieve long term weight loss, you must not only be careful of what and how you're eating, you must get off your butt and exercise. It has been reported that 80 percent of those who lose for the long haul make changes to their diets and make exercise a part of their lifestyle.

How much are you really eating?

Americans are really guilty of this - supersizing our meal portions. It's not what you eat but how much you eat. By eating smaller portion sizes you can eat whatever you like, because you are not overeating.

Sneak in this super easy exercise

Walking is one of the easiest ways to sneak exercise into your daily life. It is easy to do and requires no equipment except your own body. To make walking even more effective, park your car further away from your destination, walk up hills, use the stairs, and alternate walking with brief periods of running. Get in as many steps as possible each day to rev up your internal calorie burning machine.

The best no calorie drink in the world

Substituting water for those artificially sweetened diet drinks and sugary has many advantages. First of all, it has no calories. Plus it's great for your skin and hair. And drinking water before and during meals helps to stave off hunger and fill you up more quickly. Be careful of those liquid calories in other drinks - they can really add up.

Eat more frequent smaller meals

When you eat more frequently (4 to 6 small meals a day), it helps to keep hunger at bay and stabilize your blood sugar levels to keep from zapping your energy. And when you eat, you will be less inclined to stuff yourself like a pig.

Your weight loss goal is not achieved overnight

Nor is it achieved in two weeks or one month. In order to really drop weight, you must realize that there is no quick fix. You must dedicate yourself to making lifestyle changes that will help you reach your goal. Believe me, your body will thank you and you will be happier in the long run.

Related posts:

Running For Weight Loss - Tips To Maximum The Effectiveness

Take The "Die" Out Of Dieting - Tips For Stress Free Weight Loss

Weight loss after pregnancy

How High-Carb Diet Plans Treat Carbohydrates

Tips for Maximizing Your Weight Loss While on an HCG Diet

Changing Your Eating Habits

Exercises with treadmill

Weight loss motivation: The best 7 ways to stay motivated to lose weight

Are Weight Loss Supplements Worth It?

Remember to subscribe my full feed to get latest postsalohanemahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01451891064499234378noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6681900966656864223.post-47769043013273375162008-07-23T17:00:00.000-07:002008-07-23T17:00:00.405-07:00Overweight? - 5 Tips To Enhance Your Sex Drive Overweight? - 5 Tips To Enhance Your Sex Drive was written by JLee Davis from dietforanewyou.com

You could try one of the many sexual enhancement drugs available today. You could sign up for very expensive workshops and retreats. You could even strip down and pole dance for your partner.

My guess is that these things just aren't your style. I believe that you're seeking natural and balanced healing for your sexdrive and your overweight body.

You're tired, your energy is low and you aren't feeling quite like you think you should. You don't have unrealistic expectations. You do have some dreams you've hung onto despite your physical size. You've clung to them, knowing that some day those dreams would take you to a place inside you where you were finally ready to take control.

Welcome to your life. A life that will continue to grow more healthy, from here on. Once you embark on a journey of self-discovery and empowerment, you can never plead ignorance again. You can never say..."I didn't know".

Your sex drive does not need to take a complete dive while you're in the process of losing weight. That extra weight does not have to be like carrying heavy sacks of spuds around. It doesn't have to tire you out.

Simple things you can do to help energize you and lighten the load include the following suggestions.

1. You can make sure your daily food intake contains the highest possible raw content you can achieve up to about 80%. For now, to go much higher is a path you can move into. Keep the raw fruits and veggies separate and your energy level will steadily climb. Your body WILL respond to what you feed it. It has no choice, chemically speaking.

2. Step in place for ten minutes. Hardly a spit in the ocean of time in your day. Get up and do this for yourself. I promise your Self will love you for it. Walk around the block or walk in place. Preferably outside and breathing with a full inhale/exhale. The more you move, the more you’ll be able to move both in your live and in your love life. You don’t want your partner to have to do all the work do you? Keep your eye on the prize. It’s your dream. You CAN make it happen!

3. Make the choice to work at your sex life. Most especially if you and your partner have been together a long time. Sometimes things just need sprucing up. If you feel too overweight to feel sexy, try splitting a bottle of pleasant red wine. Put on something nice and enhance the mood of your room. Work at it. Overweight, underweight or just perfect, people have to make the effort to keep the sexual tension alive.

4. Tend to your physical appearance. Sometimes in our daily lives, we forget to take a moment to add the little touches that we used to do daily. Trim those stray hairs or apply that bit of lipstick. Small things can enhance your appearance and the way you walk, adding confidence to your style. When we take care of ourselves, we stand taller and feel better about ourselves.

5. Don’t let life get in the way of preserving the passion and fire you and your partner once had. Don’t let the pounds you’re in the process of losing, discourage you from feeling just as sexy as you did. You’ll get there again and when you do, you’ll still have your mate. The one you fell in love with. Don’t let anything get in the way. Schedule dates with your mate and make the effort.

We have all sorts of obstacles in life and each one can seem insurmountable at the time. Later, we can see each in perspective and sometimes even with humor. Don’t let tomorrow’s comic relief get you down today. Do something about your sex life and the drive will take care of itself.

Related posts:

Help! Do you have a goal weight that you want to reach through weight loss? I’d say so, it’s been pushed into our brains many times over and over again that "weight loss" is what we want to accomplish. There are weight loss guides, weight loss supplements, and many other things that push "weight loss". Many people even set their goals to be at a certain weight. Additionally, the medical community has developed an "ideal weight" chart, which can further add to the confusion about weight loss.

Now, let me ask you a question. Is your goal really weight loss? Unless you are trying to make a weight class for wrestling or some other sport with weight classes, you may think that your goal is weight loss, but it really isn’t. You are trying to lose that flubbery stuff attached to your body called FAT. Correct?

So then, why do we measure our progress by how much we weigh? Why do we step on the bathroom scale and hope that those numbers will be lower than before? You see, our weight is affected by more than just how much fat is on our body. Some other factors include water, muscle, glycogen, and obviously if we have eaten anything earlier or used the bathroom lately.

Our water weight fluctuates constantly. For instance, when we exhale water vapor comes out. When we sweat, we are sweating out water. There are also many more factors that can affect the amount of water in our body. Water is what usually causes those random gains or losses of a pound or two in weight that can make you happy or sad. It is almost physiologically impossible to lose a pound of fat in one day.

One reason the low-carb or no-carb (also called ketogenic) diets are so attractive is because of the large initial loss of weight. However, this weight is not necessarily fat. When carbohydrates are restricted the body has a backup store of them located in the liver and muscles in the form of something called glycogen. The human body can store approximately 400 grams of glycogen. In larger individuals this number can increase. In addition to this, for each gram of glycogen stored in the human body, 3 grams of water are also stored. If you figure it out, this would equate to about 1600 grams (3.5 pounds) of glycogen and water.

When you stop or limit your consumption of carbohydrates, your body starts using its glycogen stores. After a couple of days that 1600 grams (3.5 pounds) of glycogen and water are gone. Also, as an adaptation to the restriction of carbohydrates, your body produces these things called ketones. Ketones also appear to have a diuretic effect, which would mean an even greater loss of water.

In addition to water, if you have been working out lately to speed along your "weight loss" (you mean fat loss, right?) progress you probably have gained some muscle doing so. This gain in muscle can also affect the numbers you see on the scale. Muscle is also more dense than fat.

You may be wondering how you are going to measure your progress now that the scale doesn’t mean as much as it used to. Well, there are several methods to measure your body fat percentage. None of these methods are 100% accurate, but they will be much more useful than the use of a scale.

One of the simplest ways is to use a caliper. You can usually find these at your local sporting goods/fitness shop. If you can’t find them locally, you can order them off the internet. Calipers measure the thickness of a skin fold on your triceps. Then there are directions that come with the caliper that show you how to use the number you get to derive your body fat %.

If you don’t want to go out and buy some calipers, there is a body fat % calculator on my website. The calculator uses the circumference of several parts of your body and then plugs them into a formula developed by the U.S. Navy to derive an approximation of your body fat %.

There are also much more accurate ways to measure your body fat % like buoyancy testing or the use of special lasers.

If you insist on knowing your progress by weight loss and want to use a scale, try to weigh yourself at the same time everyday. Probably the best time would be right when you wake up in the morning and before you do anything.

So, your new goal should be to shoot for fat loss and not weight loss. Don’t necessarily trust the scale all the time as it can be deceiving - your weight is affected by more than just how much fat you have gained or lost. In addition, it is almost physiologically impossible to gain or lose a pound of fat in one day.

Related posts:

Weight loss after pregnancy

Shape Up! 4-Alternative Weight Loss Solutions

Water and Fiber for weight loss

Weight Loss Supplements - How much do they cost?

Tips for Maximizing Your Weight Loss While on an HCG Diet

Bananas - perfect snacks for weight loss

Citrus Fruits And Their Benefit For Weight Loss

HCG (Human Chorionic Gonadotropin) for weight loss

Resistance Training First; Fat Burning Second for Weight Loss

Remember to subscribe my full feed to get latest postsalohanemahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01451891064499234378noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6681900966656864223.post-3934746417233895882008-07-23T05:00:00.000-07:002008-07-23T05:00:01.972-07:00Empowerment And Self-Control - What It Really Takes To Get Control Of Your Weight Empowerment And Self-Control - What It Really Takes To Get Control Of Your Weight was written by JLee Davis from gaiapublishing.com

Chant the following each day, several times. They are mantras that will save your life -

- The choice to do nothing is still a choice and yields nothing.

- I am responsible for my body. If I don’t take responsibility, who will?

- I make choices daily as to how I'm going to fuel my body.

- I will STAY aware

- Choice IS control

Control is what you gain once you realize that no one will take care of you. You might think its ok to live with our grown children when we are infirm, but we both know, you and I, that this isn't the case. We would regret imposing on them, at the prime of their lives. We would resent being infirm and therefore feel sorry for ourselves.

There is no guarantee against illness, but you and I also know that the eating patterns that brought you to this place are going to make you very ill eventually, if you don't change them starting now. You are in the process of growing toward self-healing. And what a wondrous process that is!

You must decide to do that yourself.

It sounds like a negative realization. On the contrary, it will be one of the most freeing moments of wisdom you will ever feel.

BECAUSE – once you realize that your health is up to you and you alone, you are free to move toward healing.

Control gives us the freedom to write our own destiny and dreams. That which we desire, control gives us a shot at. We want to be healthy and only WE ourselves can achieve that goal. No one can take that step to make us healthier. So by developing control functions, we better equip ourselves for the task of whipping our poor bodies into shape.

How many times have you shaken your fist at the heavens, bemoaning your "lack of willpower"? Well, you don’t have to do that any longer. We’re going to toss the word "willpower" right out on its ear.

Take a moment and examine the word "willpower". It’s meaning is clear. It is the power of your will. Many people have a problem narrowing down the word "will". Will can mean many things, but when it all boils down, it is desire, wish, choice and determination. Your "will" is quite simply...CHOICE.

You don’t NEED willpower to lose weight. What you NEED is to make a choice.

Once you've done that, simply bow to the incredible wisdom of that choice.

Related posts:

8 Forbidden Foods For Weight Loss

Weight loss after pregnancy

Shape Up! 4-Alternative Weight Loss Solutions

Water and Fiber for weight loss

Weight Loss Supplements - How much do they cost?

Tips for Maximizing Your Weight Loss While on an HCG Diet

Bananas - perfect snacks for weight loss

Citrus Fruits And Their Benefit For Weight Loss

HCG (Human Chorionic Gonadotropin) for weight loss

Remember to subscribe my full feed to get latest postsalohanemahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01451891064499234378noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6681900966656864223.post-14367243211657097992008-07-23T01:00:00.000-07:002008-07-23T01:00:00.975-07:00Diets May Have Long Term Side Effects...Do You Know What They Are? Diets May Have Long Term Side Effects...Do You Know What They Are? was written by D. S. Epperson from sugarblend.com

To see the "low carb" diets on the way out is a somewhat reflective process, not that I was an advocate of ketogenic diets at all unless you have Adolescent Epilepsy, but bringing the "low carb or ketogenic diet" into the forefront of our American Society meant that more people were being educated about obesity, food and eating. This acknowledgment about food was astounding and became overwhelming , causing restaurant chains and some farmers to really suffer from these trendy diets, people have lost farms that have been in their families for years , businesses that lend job and economic stability to an area, have gone out of business or lost business, all on a dietary whim, with no research done on the side-effects of "not eating" what these diets restrict.

"What side effects?" you ask. Okay, so you've lost a bunch of weight by eating tons of meat and fat, maybe your cholesterol numbers aren't out of reach, but, have you had your bowels checked lately? You know, eating that much meat and fat can only do one thing to your intestines and colon, and that's putrefying products in the bowels. Pretty disgusting, huh?

As you grow older, you lose the ability to digest food like you use to when you were young and had lots of enzymes . Sometimes, that comes from just age, but sometimes it comes from disease and antibiotic use, the point being that, the low carb diet's started you out on food that you may not be able to absorb anyway so you haven't been absorbing the vitamins and minerals that your body needs to start, process or finish some important tasks.

"So what's the harm in that", you may say, "I've lost weight and feel great, and I don't feel sick" you probably wouldn't. There are illnesses that you never see coming until it's to late. One of the leading causes of Colon Cancer, is eating an over abundance of meat and fat, and not having the ability to digest that protein and fat in the system. When enough damage is done, you don't absorb minerals and vitamins like you are suppose to, and you start to develop other problems, more serious problems, like cancers.

I will have to admit, that the "Atkins" type diets do advocate not eating the processed and manufactured foods that break down so fast into sugars you can almost hear run into the veins! And that is still true, the human body was designed to do the work of breaking down complex carbohydrates into a more simple usable energy. The break down of a whole grain, fresh vegetable or fruit product also take a certain amount of energy, so not only does your body use energy to break this healthy food down, you also have the benefit of a lot of fiber, which will keep the intestines and colon clean and functioning well.

So, what's the next trend? I think the next trend is going to be the "old fashion" weight loss plan. This is a tried and true method of weight loss that anyone can do and it tastes great. This would involve healthy, low or slow absorbing carbohydrates, counting and burning calories, and exercise! A balanced diet, along with knowing how many calories you need to eat per day, to either maintain your weight, or lose weight, and an exercise program to give your bones and muscles a reason to stay strong, not a trendy type diet, but a healthy lifestyle that you can live with for the rest of your life, that still has room for an occasional treat now and then.

"Low carb" is out, the new trend is "healthy and better tasting proportions".

Related posts:

Weight Loss & Health Tips Revealed: Can I Be Fit And Fat?

Colon Cleansing can Help Curb Cravings

Seven Reasons to Choose Hoodia

Water and Fiber for weight loss

Gastro Physics And Dietary Anti Matter

Changing Your Eating Habits

8 Common Sense Ways to Lose Weight

Low Carb And Low Fat Diets...A Scam?!

Calorie Cycling Weight Loss

Remember to subscribe my full feed to get latest postsalohanemahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01451891064499234378noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6681900966656864223.post-40324009541389017612008-07-22T17:00:00.000-07:002008-07-22T17:00:01.029-07:00Are Fiber Supplements Fat Burning Food? Are Fiber Supplements Fat Burning Food? was written by Jenny Mathers from savvy-fat-burning-food.com

If you're taking a fiber supplement or eating a high fiber diet, you may inadvertently be consuming fat burning food.

Everyone knows that fiber is something you need in your diet to be healthy, and that primarily it relieves constipation by increasing the bulk in stool to allow easier bowel movements.

But taking fiber supplements or eating a high fiber diet may also be beneficial when included within a balanced diet and exercise program.

It has been controversial as to whether fiber could be considered a component of fat burning food, as research has returned some conflicting results. For example, early studies published in 1987 found that a dietary fiber supplement given to moderately obese individuals significantly increased weight loss when compared to those in the placebo group1. But another study published four years earlier, conducted by some of the same researchers as those in the above study found that ispaghula (psyllium) and bran (both good sources of soluble and insoluble fiber) had no effect on weight loss2.

Certainly the differing results may have originated from the differences in the way that the two studies were conducted. The studies which resulted in fiber supplements inducing weight loss had administered fairly high dosages of fiber (most fiber supplements contain about 3 - 4 grams of fiber per serve), of 5-7 grams per day on top of general dietary advices which includes increasing dietary fiber intake.

It may be possible, although not proven, that dosages may need to be high to induce the desired effect of weight loss. Tuft's University's review of the available literature in this area found that when participants in the studies reviewed ate an ad libitum diet, an increase of dietary fiber of 14 grams was associated with an average of 1.9 kg weight loss over 3.8 months.3.

The average western diet includes somewhere between 15 - 18 grams of fiber. An increase of 14 grams would mean that if you were currently consuming 15 grams, an increase of 14 grams per day would mean you'd be consuming a total of 29 grams of fiber.

The amount of dietary fiber regularly recommended is 30 grams. So by either consuming this fiber through food (preferable) or by supplement, you may be giving your body a better chance to lose weight by consuming fiber, but by far the best advantage will be that you will be getting a healthier body.

So given that a fiber supplement can be helpful, (if and only if, a high fiber diet is impossible), to lose weight and most certainly to kick-start a healthier body, what should you look for in a fiber supplement?

Related posts:

Fat-burning food

Fat Burning Exercise: Choose One That Can Revive Your Body's Own Fat Burning Dynamism

Two ways to start burning fat quickly

The Most Effective Fat Burning And Muscle Building Workout That Takes Just 13 Minutes

List of foods that burn fat

List of foods that burn fat: apple

Water and Fiber for weight loss

How To Burn Fat Fast: Go For Speedy-Burn, Not Crash-Burn

Burn Fat While You Sleep

Remember to subscribe my full feed to get latest posts
