Youth Soccer

Yesterday was a delayed opening day for my kids. We started at a new club that I had heard good things about, as far away as when I lived in Virginia.
So far we had one day notice on the coaches meeting, and less than two weeks before the season started. When I inquired, about this I was scolded.
So opening day, my oldest had no refs, and after three practices, look about as disorganized as the democrats. My lovely wife looked over at me and said about halfway through the game your last U12 team in Virginia could beat this team. My oldest is a U16. The u6 and u5 and u4 had refs.
My little one the one I think I can still coach after the drunk hit me, has his game afterwards. We had no refs, supposed to, but didn't. I had to fill the other coach in that he was wearing the wrong uniform, and tell another coach that he was on the wrong field, he should be on field 8. We split the teams up for the double game, one coach on one field, the other on the other field, with parents helping. After the my game, I went over to watch the rest of my team finish, and counted 5 v 5, on the field should be 4v4.
Unorganized administrators bread totally unorganized leagues, and Vasco has to ask the question again, why do clubs treat their travel programs like gold, and their rec programs like red headed step children? Without a good rec program your travel program dies. Rec foots the bills in most clubs. Why does USYS let this occur? Why is it when most of your people are rec players, you spend the most time and money and organization on the travel player?

Vasco says that soccer will not take off in America till we create fans of the game. Vasco is still baffled that we have travel players playing the game, but not watching the game on TV much less going to stadiums to watch the game.

Larry, you need to think about this, and Vasco thinks change the direction of the game at the youth level. As for my kids, we will go to another club this spring, one that is better organized and thus a better experience. My children might not grow up to be superstar soccer players, but they will grow up to be fans, and continue what their father has started.
Until then how many kids will be turned off of the sport, because they hear their parents complaining about the experience of being treated like a red headed step child.

Vasco is proud to Brasilian, the only country to qualify for every World Cup. Brasil over Argentina 3-1 to qualify for the 2010 World Cup.

US OPEN CUP WEEK

US Open cup week, DC United at home vs Seattle Sounders. The defending champ vs a semi finalist from last year, at RFK stadium Wednesday evening at 7:30 pm on Fox soccer channel.

The Lamar Hunt US Open Cup, Lamar Hunt an American hero to us soccer fans.

Watch the game fans. DC will repeat, as the Champs again.

Busy week for Vasco, soccer practice start this week for my oldest, can't coach him any more thanks to a drunk driver. Coaching meeting tonight for my little one, Vasco thinks he can still handle coaching his team, my 25th team.

Light schedule this weekend only three MLS games on Saturday:
DC visits Seattle, DC get another road one.
KC visits NE, NE in a rout
On FSC we have Toronto visiting Colorado, Colorado on its way to the playoffs.

Everyone knows Vasco is no fan of David Beckham, in fact I honestly despise the man as an over hyped futboller, who has manufactured his fame rather than earn it.
He has chosen to come to the US because the money is good, and he wants to work towards a career after futbol. So he has a work ethic, so he must not be all bad.

Fabio Capello now is saying that his super sub who wants to break the all time record for Caps for the three lions, can't be on the team for 2010, if he is playing in America for an MLS team.
Fabio, Vasco says stick your futbol up your high and mighty ass, and choke on it. That is the biggest crock of crap that Vasco has ever heard of. He can be your super sub while playing in MLS, he can go to Milan and play at a high level, and he can play on your crappy England team in the world cup except your to stupid ass racist butt won't let him.
Coaches are hired to be fired, so Vasco won't say it. Let's just hope you go 0-3 in the group stages, and are let go in disgrace. MLS isn't the best, but neither is your punk ass Europe, Europe just has the money.

Another bad performance in Mexico, thankfully it only happens every four years. Offense is what wins games, we have the talent, so why not use it. When will US soccer ever learn? Interesting discussion on Cirrus about youth soccer last night. Seems everyone knows what we need to do, but no one does it. Could it be that glorified gym teachers are afraid they will lose their income, and those in power at the Federation will lose their power if that were to happen.
Be afraid when their only answer to why is development.

MLS this weekend, six games on tap.

DC at Toronto, with the week off after a good game on Sunday, DC shows well with a win on the road.
Dallas at Columbus, Dallas is on a roll, Columbus wins though
Chivas at NY, wow what a lousy game to watch, Chivas smells and NY is dead. I can see a zero zero tie, maybe all-time worst MLS game.
Houston at RSL on FSC. RSL wins, Houston hasn't shown well on the road.
Seattle at LA, LA is on a roll. LA wins this one.

Chicago v KC, KC has a new coach coming off of a 6 goal loss. KC rebounds at home and beats Chicago.

What a game on Sunday, the USA played a fantastic first half on Sunday, and then crumbled in the second half. Vasco has taken lots of flak for rooting for heritage rather than where I live, including insults and a serious infraction bestowed on me at big soccer. Vasco still believes that it was best the US didn't win, because I believe US soccer is doing it wrong and winning Sunday would have set back the US for a generation. You would only know that if you work at the lower end of the ladder.

The US Open Cup third round starts tonight, and ends tomorrow night, and Vasco thought he would take a few predictions to go with it, after going 6-2-1 last week, missing the US/Spain game and LA winning.

Harrisburg on the road at New England, NE lots of injuries, and Harrisburg is bad on the road tough call on this game. With all of the injuries, Vasco sees a Harrisburg upset.
DC over Ocean City NJ Barons, the last remaining PDL team.
Wilmington at home over Chicago.
Columbus at Rochester, Rochester has only played two home games this year without a win. Columbus rolls.
Charleston at home will win versus Chivas
Austin at Houston, Houston doesn't play well in the open cup. Austin an expansion team this is their biggest game ever. Houston rolls
Tomorrow night
Minnesota at home vs Kansas City, Kansas city wins
The big game of this round Portland 7-1-5 vs Seattle in Portland. Vasco sees Seattle winning this one.

Soccer in the United States, a growing majority. I am still fascinated with the number of people drinking the USSF kool aid, and handing over their money.

SUM is doing the Super Liga again, a mini tournament between Mexico and MLS. The lesser rans of last years league tournament, Some of the games are good, as long as you don't think the tournament is awesome, then you should be good.

United States Men's national team, let's face it boys and girls we can smell the stink they are leaving in Africa all the way back here in the states. Vasco wonders why the fans get up in arms when the US stinks up a tournament? My guess, the Kool aid, because lets face it, the US isn't that good.

The US cannot play with the big boys, of Europe and South America. What has the US done since 2002. Nothing, 1 point in 06. we match New Zealand.

Let's face it, for the US to become a soccer nation, things must change. First people must be fans, just because people play doesn't make them fans. When the country becomes fans, then the players will get better. Then the United States might be able to start hanging with the big boys.

Sunil, it is time to change the USSF plans, ideas. Quit robbing the US of the ability to enjoy the beautiful game. After all ESPN gets it, USA v Egypt on the Deuce, while the Brasil v Italy game is on the original 2pm today.

While the US looks for a new coach, and what plan they can drop millions down the drain on, after another failure. Brasil will be celebrating another FIFA trophy, cause that is what we do.

MLS Week 14

After a couple of lousy weeks, Vasco went 7-1-0 last week. Vasco has had a rotten week so far, and probably the worst birthday of my life. At least Brasil won this week, and will win tomorrow as well. Maybe someone in US Soccer will wake up some day.

Tonight, we get DC United vs Seattle in Seattle, on ESPN 2 at 10:30pm, some of us have to work you know. Vasco sees a tight game, that will end in a tie.

Saturday we have five more games to finish off the week.
LA at San Jose on ESPN2, yes two games this week 4:30 start time. San Jose showed a little last week, and LA didn't, lets go with San Jose.
Seattle at NY, not good for Seattle to travel across the nation after the playing Wednesday, NY while terrible, will win this one.
Columbus at Dallas, Columbus is on a roll on FSC.
RSL at Houston, Houston on a major roll and at home. Houston all the way.
DC at Colorado, DC doesn't play well at mile high, Christian will be out to show up Colorado, Vasco sees a DC win here.

San Jose at Seattle, Seattle breaks out of their funk.

USSF needs to make improvements in their refs. DC has already lost seven points because of ref calls.

MLS Power Rankings

Vasco wanted to do Power rankings this year, but didn't want to start at the beginning of the season, week seven is in the books now, and Vasco is debuting his MLS Power Rankings.
Vasco is thinking though that this will not be a weekly event.

# 1 Chivas is the class of the league so far, 6-1-1
# 2 Seattle is the biggest surprise so far, 4-2-1
Do they know they are an expansion team
#3 DC United is back from the brink 3-1-3
#4 Chicago is still undefeated at 2-0-5
#5 Toronto is still up and down at 3-2-3
#6 Colorado is surprising some at 3-2-2
#7 Real Salt Lake is great at home 3-3-0
#8 Kansas City is a good home team 3-3-1
#9 Houston is a slow starter at 2-2-2
#10 New England injuries have hurt 2-2-2
#11 Columbus was 08 a fluke 0-2-5
#12 Los angles this team is awful 1-1-4
#13 San Jose is weak 1-4-2
#14 New York is just plain awful 1-5-2
#15 Dallas this team just plain sucks 1-5-1

Think what you want, I know they are different than some others, who are doing them. This is Vasco's thoughts and we shall see. 52 games in the books so far this year, 17 ties so far, a rounded 33%, that really needs to improve. To many teams playing for a tie, look at the WPS the women don't play for ties they play hard till the final whistle.
