Arizona: Restaurant concealed carry law turns one month old.

On September 29th, Arizona's Restaurant Concealed Carry laws took effect. Running up to the date the law took effect, restaurants were madly ordering and posting signs to prohibit concealed carry permit holders from bringing their lawfully carried firearms into their establishments.

Opponents predicted that mayhem and violence would likely result from the combination of alcohol and firearms and that Arizona's firearms owners would haul out their guns and like Dirty Harry, would challenge anyone crossing them to "Make my day!"

The reality has been underwhelming to say the least. There have been no reported issues, no gunfights in bars and no armed confrontations between restaurant patrons. In short, like most of the other 39 states that implemented similar legislation prior to Arizona, it has been a non-event. Responsible, law-abiding citizens continue to be just that. Arizonans that have chosen to make the investment of time and effort to get an AZ CCW permit now carry where they are permitted and some have chosen not to patronize those restaurants and bars that do not permit concealed carry.

In the interest of providing a readily available resource for those wishing to legally carry in restaurants in Arizona, I am introducing an online database where readers can post the names of restaurants and bars that permit legal concealed carry in their establishments. The database will also permit readers to post the names of restaurants and bars that prohibit concealed carry permits holders from exercising their legal right to self-defense. In the interest of fairness, all postings will be verified with the establishments prior to being added to the database.

DOUGLAS Arizona — Federal authorities say they have seized nearly 700 pounds of marijuana at the Douglas Port of Entry.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers were screening travelers and vehicles Sunday night when they came in contact with a 20-year-old Douglas man driving a truck.

The vehicle was inspected and authorities discovered that the bed of the F-150 had been completely altered to accommodate the concealment of nearly 700 pounds of marijuana with an estimated street value of $1.1 million, authorities said.

Officers seized the vehicle and marijuana and the man was turned over to the custody of Immigration and Customs Enforcement for further investigation and prosecution. The man’s name was not released.

• U.S. Border Patrol, Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the Arizona Department of Public Safety executed a search warrant on a residence late last week, resulting in the seizure of over 1,100 pounds of marijuana. Border Patrol agents from the Tucson Station observed a pickup truck traveling north from the U.S.-Mexico Border in a remote desert area notorious for drug smuggling. Agents were able to track the vehicle to a local residence. Additional agents responded to the location and, with the assistance of a canine unit, discovered several bundles suspected to be marijuana stacked up inside the house. Agents maintained surveillance around the perimeter of the house and contacted ICE for assistance. A search warrant was obtained and members of the Border Patrol, ICE and the Arizona Department of Public Safety served the warrant.

• Border Patrol agents assigned to the Nogales Station’s Interstate 19 checkpoint Saturday discovered approximately 24 pounds of marijuana in a vehicle when a canine alerted to an odor it had been trained to detect. Agents found the marijuana, valued at approximately $19,200, hidden in a compartment in the vehicle’s gas tank. The marijuana and driver were held for further processing, authorities said.

• Border Patrol agents assigned to the Nogales Station were notified that the Nogales Police Department had detained 20 illegal immigrants at a hotel Friday. All 20 were taken into custody.

• Nogales Border Patrol agents, in separate incidents over the weekend, arrested two sex offenders who were illegally present in the United States.

• Nogales agents arrested eight illegal aliens from China over the weekend. Tucson agents also arrested 10 illegal aliens Sunday from China on Sunday.

• Border Patrol agents assigned to the Sonoita Station apprehended an illegal immigrant from Mexico on Sunday who had previously been arrested on accusations of rape and kidnapping, according to records.

• Agents from Tucson arrested an illegal alien from Mexico Sunday who, according to records, had been arrested for lewd and lascivious acts with a child under 14 and possession/purchase of cocaine base for sale.

On October 7th, 2009 an FBI news release read: “Retired Customs and Border Patrol Officer detained on child pornography charges.”

On October 21st, the FBI news release was: “Former Customs and Border Patrol Officer plead guilty to accepting bribes to allow illegal aliens to enter the U.S.” (story)

Somehow these stories escaped most of our printed Arizona News media or they may have been buried somewhere between the Fry’s coupons and the Halloween Costume trends. Could it be this is intentional? The thought process may be that if we ignore or hide crime issues in Arizona the residents of Arizona will think they don’t exist.

News papers quickly print complaints about our infamous sheriff and why he should not be enforcing Federal laws. The theory is that our Border Guards do not need help nor do our Phoenix retailers need the loss of revenue suffered every time a paying customer is sent back across the border. Let’s not forget that these retailers purchase advertising and donate to the campaigns of our elected officials who also pass the laws of the land.

Arnold Schwarzenegger, Governor of the People’s Republic of California, has “terminated” the Second Amendment in his state.

The “Ammo Surveillance Act,” Assembly Bill 962, requires California citizens to be fingerprinted and tracked for every single ammo purchase.

By signing AB 962 into law, Schwarzenegger’s liberal Hollywood roots are once again showing through.

Yes, the same guy who made millions sporting every weapon known to man in action flicks is mandating gun owners be treated like common criminals for exercising their Second Amendment right.

On top of that, the bill requires all purchases to take place “face-to-face” effectively banning online and catalog sales. Is this what the Founders intended by “shall not be infringed?”

Thank goodness Article II should keep the “governator” confined to California.

We've talked about Oath Keepers many times here on Gun Rights Examiner. Now the "mainstream media" is starting to take notice of them. And some are taking their cues from fabricated and hysterical Southern Poverty Law Center cries of "Witch!"...I mean "Hate group!"

For those of you who may not be familiar with the organization, here's how they describe themselves:

...served as a U.S. Army paratrooper until disabled in a rough terrain parachuting accident during a night jump...Stewart graduated from Yale Law School in 2004, where his paper 'Solving the Puzzle of Enemy Combatant Status' won Yale’s Miller prize for best paper on the Bill of Rights. He assisted teaching U.S. military history at Yale, was a Yale Research Scholar, and is writing a book on the dangers of applying the laws of war to the American people.

Gee, that sounds pretty hateful and extreme...

Particularly in light of their "What We are Not" statement, that includes such inflammatory and radical proclamations like:

The US Department of Homeland Security announced the arrests of 1,785 gang members and associates, criminals and immigration violators, and the seizure of more than 100 firearms as part of a six-month intensive Immigration and Customs Enforcement-led law enforcement operation executed in 89 cities across the country. The operation was completed on September 30, 2009.
Through Operation Community Shield, ICE agents worked side by side with federal, state, and local law enforcement partners in a six-month coordinated, national public safety surge against transnational criminal street gangs in the United States. Transnational street gangs have significant numbers of foreign-born members and are frequently involved in human smuggling and trafficking, narcotics smuggling and distribution, identity theft and benefit fraud, money laundering and bulk cash smuggling, weapons smuggling and arms trafficking, cyber crimes, export violations, and other crimes with a nexus to the border.

"Operation Community Shield has progressed from a program that targeted individual gang members for arrest, prosecution, and removal to a successful strategy of dismantling the violent transnational gangs themselves," said Department of Homeland Security Assistant Secretary for ICE John Morton. "The success of our public safety campaign in 2009 is a testament to our unique law-enforcement authority and the strong partnerships we enjoy with our law enforcement partners from across the country."

Of the 1,785 individuals arrested during the surge, 1,472 were gang members, associates or those otherwise criminally charged -- including almost 35 percent with violent criminal histories and 16 gang leaders. The remaining individuals were encountered and arrested for immigration violations during the enforcement action and have been placed into removal proceedings

Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio announced Saturday that his deputies arrested 60 people in a two-day crime-suppression sweep across the northwest Valley.

About half of those arrested were suspected illegal immigrants, including two Jamaican nationals arrested for selling drugs, he said.

Those whose only crime was being in the country illegally were turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Those arrested for committing other crimes were kept in sheriff's custody.

The sheriff's crime sweep began Friday, one day after ICE stripped him of power to make federal immigration arrests. Arpaio's sweeps have drawn criticism for alleged racial profiling.

Arpaio said despite ICE's action, nothing has changed. “This is to show that we did not need the federal authority to do our jobs,” he said. Sheriff's deputies also made nine arrests Saturday at a Peoria car wash under the state's employer-sanctions law.

Deputies arrived at the On Your Way Car Wash and Quick Lube near 91st and Northern avenues Saturday morning to search for five suspected illegal immigrants, said Aaron Douglas, a spokesman for the Sheriff's Office.

Deputies did not find the suspects but arrested nine other suspected illegal immigrants, booking two for fraudulent documents, a Class 4 felony, said the Sheriff's Office. The other seven were turned over to ICE.

'Illegal Alien' Halloween costume sparks ire

LOS ANGELES - A Southern California immigrant rights group has asked Target stores to stop selling an "illegal alien" Halloween costume it says is offensive to immigrants.

The costume, posted on Target's web site, features the mask of an alien with a green card and an orange jumpsuit with "illegal alien" written across the front.

Target spokesman Joshua Thomas says the company is removing the costume from the site after receiving several complaints.

He says the store never intended to sell the outfit but included it in its online offerings by mistake.

Angelica Salas, executive director of the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights of Los Angeles, says she wrote an e-mail to the Minneapolis-based retailer Friday calling the costume "distasteful, mean-spirited, and ignorant of social stigmas and current debate on immigration reform."

Border Patrol agents stayed busy Thursday and Friday in the Tucson Sector. Here’s a look at some of the major operations:

Agents assigned to the Douglas Station assisted the Douglas Police Department and the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office in interdicting two vehicles Thursday afternoon, traveling different routes, and transporting a total of 35 illegal aliens from Mexico. The illegal immigrants were held for processing.

Border Patrol agents assigned to the Nogales station arrested two Chinese nationals Thursday in Nogales. Both were held for processing.

Agents assigned to the Tucson station apprehended six illegal aliens from China on Friday morning east of the Sasabe Port of Entry.

Border Patrol agents assigned to the Willcox station rescued a lone motorist Thursday on Highway 82. The subject suffered severe injuries due to a motorcycle accident. Emergency medical services were requested and the motorist was taken to a local hospital.

Border Patrol agents from the Nogales station observed a vehicle Thursday night being driven erratically north of the Mariposa port of entry. Agents stopped the vehicle, later identified as stolen, and discovered one of the passengers, a 13-year-old female, had been reported missing by her mother.

Anti-Free Speech Fanatics at Harvard Threaten Disruption and Violence

Cambridge , Ma.-Harvard University seems to be resigned to suffer the same embarrassing fate as Columbia University in 2006 as they scamper to rescind their previous invitation to Jim Gilchrist, founder and president of the Minuteman Project, to participate in its immigration symposium scheduled for this Saturday, October 17 in Cambridge , Ma.

Despite appearing at last February’s symposium at the Harvard Law School on immigration law with invited panelists ranging from legislators and government officials to academics and private practitioners from across the political spectrum, campus philosophical fanatics have terrorized the Harvard Undergraduate Legal Committee (HULC) with disruptive threats if Jim Gilchrist attends their proposed convention.

“For almost six months student sponsors of Harvard’s Public Interest and Law Conference have planned for my appearance at Harvard University, but the minute they received threats from fellow students these pre-law students shied away from defending free speech,” Minuteman Project president Jim Gilchrist said. “That future graduates of the most renowned university in the world are literally afraid to support the very cornerstone of the foundation of our nation, namely ‘free speech,’ ought to frighten anyone looking to America as the beacon of liberty, freedom, and justice for all.”

With just five days notice, after over five months of planning his appearance, HULC gave Gilchrist notice that it was forced to rescind its invitation due to serious threats from unnamed anarchist radicals on the Harvard campus. The spokesperson for HULC said the threats were sourced in only some errant students. He said no faculty members were involved in the threat to wreak havoc upon the Cambridge , Massachusetts campus.

The HULC posted the following vague announcement on its web site Tuesday, Oct. 13:

The mission of the PI&L Conference is to educate and provide a forum of productive discussion on how to use law and public service as tools for social justice. “For the past two years Harvard has welcomed the open expression of ideas from the Minuteman Project during similar symposiums,” Gilchrist said. “It is shocking that free speech, the most coveted principle of any free nation, is now something that ordinary Americans, including our wounded combat veterans, apparently now must fight for. I never dreamed that Harvard University would eventually allow free speech on its campus to be doled out only to the meanest thugs wielding the biggest clubs.”

Gilchrist, whose 5600-word essay on immigration was published by Georgetown University Law School in 2008, was also invited to submit an immigration-related article for publication by the Harvard Journal on Legislation earlier this year.

In 2006 Columbia University and Mayor Michael Bloomberg of New York City apologized to the Minuteman Project for the attempt by members of that school’s Chicano Political Caucus and International Socialist Organization to physically pummel Gilchrist and throw him from the stage when he attempted to speak at an event sponsored by a Columbia University political club.

Gilchrist, the president of the Minuteman Project, is a retired California CPA and a former newspaper reporter. He founded the “multi-ethnic” Minuteman Project in 2004 to encourage public debate on what he refers to as a chaotic and careless attitude by our nation’s political governors toward our nation’s physical security, its domestic tranquility and economic prosperity. He is a passionate defender of free speech and an avid supporter of law enforcement organizations. He is a decorated veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and the recipient of the Purple Heart award for wounds sustained while serving with an infantry company in Vietnam in 1968 and 1969.

The following statement was read over the PA system at a football game at Roane County High School, Kingston, Tennessee by school Principal, Jody McLeod.

"It has always been the custom at Roane County High School football games, to say a prayer and play the National Anthem, to honor God and Country."

"Due to a recent ruling by the Supreme Court, I am told that saying a Prayer is a violation of a Federal Case Law. As I understand the law at this time, I can use the public facility to approve of sexual perversion and call it "an alternate life style", and if someone is offended, that's OK.

I can use it to condone sexual promiscuity, by dispensing condoms and calling it, "safe sex.." If someone is offended, that's OK.

I can even use this public facility to present the merits of killing an unborn baby as a "viable! means of birth control." If someone is offended, no problem...

I can designate a school day as "Earth Day" and involve students in activities to worship religiously and praise the goddess "Mother Earth" and call it "ecology"..

I can use literature, videos and presentations in the classroom that depicts people with strong, traditional Christian convictions as "simple minded" and "ignorant" and call it "enlightenment"..

However, if anyone uses this facility to honor GOD and to ask HIM to Bless this event with safety and good sportsmanship, the Federal Case Law is violated..

This appears to be inconsistent at best, and at worst, diabolical.

Apparently, we are to be tolerant of everything and anyone, except GOD and HIS Commandments.

Nevertheless, as a school principal, I frequently ask staff and students to abide by rules with which they do not necessarily agree. For me to do otherwise would be inconsistent at best, and at worst, hypocritical... I suffer from that affliction enough unintentionally. I certainly do not need to add an intentional transgression..

For this reason, I shall "Render unto Caesar that which is Caesar's" and refrain from praying at this time.

However, if you feel inspired to honor, praise and thank GOD and ask HIM, in the name of JESUS, to Bless this event, please feel free to do so..

They prayed in the stands. They prayed in the team huddles. They prayed at the concession stand and they prayed in the Announcer's Box!

The only place they didn't pray was in the Supreme Court of the United States of America - the Seat of "Justice" in the "one nation, under GOD."

Somehow, Kingston, Tennessee remembered what so many have forgotten..
We are given the Freedom OF Religion, not the Freedom FROM Religion.
Praise GOD that HIS remnant remains!

It's interesting that a high school principal can see the problem, but our society cannot. By the way, last year the ACLU brought charges against the principal and football coach at Pace High School, Pace, FL for violating the law mentioned below. Now I sit me down in school
Where praying is against the rule.
For this great nation under God
Finds mention of Him very odd.

If scripture now the class recites,
It violates the Bill of Rights.
And anytime my head I bow
Becomes a Federal matter now.

Our hair can be purple, orange or green,
That's no offense; it's a freedom scene.
The law is specific, the law is precise.
Prayers spoken aloud are a serious vice.

For praying in a public hall
Might offend someone with no faith at all.
In silence alone we must meditate,
God's name is prohibited by the state.

We're allowed to cuss and dress like freaks,
And pierce our noses, tongues and cheeks.
They've outlawed guns, but FIRST the Bible.
To quote the Good Book makes me liable.

We can elect a pregnant Senior Queen,
And the 'unwed daddy,' our Senior King.
It's 'inappropriate' to teach right from wrong,
We're taught that such 'judgments' do not belong.

We can get our condoms and birth controls,
Study witchcraft, vampires and totem poles.
But the Ten Commandments are not allowed,
No word of God must reach this crowd.

It's scary here I must confess,
When chaos reigns the school's a mess.
So, Lord, this silent plea I make:
Should I be shot;
My soul please take!
