I am really looking forward to the upcoming in-game HGL event this Friday – Number of the Beast!

For the event, players will have to count the no. of beasts spawned. Take note that there will be many different types of monsters spawned so do brush up on your HGL knowledge ;)

The event consists of 2 parts:-

- 1st part is for players to count the no. of beasts spawned. First 2 players to submit the accurate answer will win a Heroic dye kit each.

- For those who miss out on the 1st section, do not fret! You can also play ‘Reporter’ of the event and post screenshots / coverage of the event. 1 Player with the best submission will walk away with a Heroic dye kit code.

Examples of Beasts in Hellgate: London:-

Carnagors
The Carnagor is a giant beast. Heavily muscled, the Carnagor has huge tusks and hundreds of razor-sharp teeth and jagged spines protruding from its thick, scaly back. Driven by the insatiable taste for human flesh, the Carnagor is a relentless enemy.

Necros
This caste includes both the undead and the Demons that create and command them. Necros often swarm in semi-organized packs, using strength of numbers to overcome the limitations of their commonly weakened and decayed forms. Their masters are more powerful, and eliminating their commanding presence should be of the highest priority when encountering them. Creatures within the Necros caste commonly use attacks that pierce the flesh, poison the blood, and corrupt the soul.

Examples of Necros in Hellgate: London:-

Nightmare
These nightmarish demons are the twisted undead remains of those who were unfortunate enough to be slain in their sleep when the Hellgate opened. The bodies and faces of Nightmares are contorted, reflecting the state of their damned minds when the demons possessed them. With anguish to fuel their magical attacks, Nightmares are a frightening presence.

Grotesque
Stitched together from numerous corpses and chunks of decaying flesh, the Grotesque is truly an abomination filled with demonic maggots. When slain, grotesques invariably break down and spawn undead forms which rise from the remains, freed from their united servitude.

Spectral
Spectral Demons are visually the strangest and most shocking creatures encountered by the survivors of the Burn, and some even have hidden forms that can only be seen by adventurers with a means to peer into their unearthly realm. Their Spectral power sometimes manifests itself in our world as a form of electricity, and attacks based in similar energy spectrums have been found to be highly effective.

Examples of Spectral monsters in Hellgate: London:-

Shadow Husk
The Shadow Husk resembles a human face gruesomely attached by an elaborate spike to a misshapen demonic body. With rings in its arms and pins stabbing through its goat-like legs, the Shadow Husk remains in constant agony. Capable of shifting in-between the material and infernal planes, the Shadow Husk uses these shifting abilities to dispatch the unwary.

Spectral Fury
Spectral Furies are female apparitions that float on translucent squid-like tendrils of purple spectral energy. Their primary attack is a spray of spectral energy, which they reach into the air and pull down before launching from their outstretched arms.

Primus
Also called True Demons, The Primus are the organized beings that command the lesser castes and are the primary cause of the apocalypse. Mostly humanoid in form, they often use weapons and equipment in their vile pursuits, and some have even been seen using human-created technology, although they tend to favor devices of their own fabrication. Their intelligence, use of weaponry, and the ability to attack from both range or in hand-to-hand combat make them a dangerous and unpredictable enemy.

Examples of Primus in Hellgate: London

Minions
Minions are hulking, brutish creatures with a gruesome mouthful of razor-sharp teeth comprising their entire face. They employ demon-crafted weaponry that's grafted directly to the ends of their arms.

Darkspawn
The Darkspawn are an intelligent faction within the Primus caste of demons with an affinity for melding demonic magic with technology. They are insatiable in their search for the new and unknown and often roam the ruins of London for caches of technology. Humans unfortunate enough to cross their path and fall by their hand are in turn salvaged for their equipment.

IAHgames presents Take 2 Carnival!

Oh my heart..

As you guys probably already know, IAH is the distributor of Grand Theft Auto 4 in the region. The much anticipated game is scheduled to hit stores today and as most of the staff in IAHGames are gaming geeks, almost everyone in the office are jumping around in excitement to get their paws on the awesome game. The limited edition set comes complete with duffel bag, GTA4 game disc, a safebox and key, artbook and game soundtrack.

I REALLY, REALLY, REAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLY want to get the game but I finally decided against getting it because I'm in the midst of moving to my own place and the cost of household items is slowly but surely burning a hole in my pocket. Do you guys have any idea how much a rice cooker and sofa set costs?!

I've always stayed with my parents but now that I've hit the big 2...., (ahem, not revealing my full age :P), I felt that it was time to strike it out on my own and move into my own place. My room is currently in a horrendous mess and so far, I already have 7 large boxes filled with my stuff and my room isn't even half packed yet ><. (2 of the boxes have been solely dedicated to my collection of video games, muahahhaha! I'm not parting with any of it!)

So... now I can only watch in pain as EVERYONE around me runs around in glee with their super awesome GTA4 duffel bags and enjoy hours upon hours of pleasurable gaming wreaking violence and mayhem in the game while I'm stuck with a stack of useless household supplies, alone and depressed...

Oh my heart... someone stab me with a wooden spoon now pls. :(

In more HGL related news, we had an in-game event last Saturday and I had a pretty grand time! Zombies were spawned in Holborn station and the Community had to count how many undead protesters there were.

The event soon turned kinky though with Alliance members discarding their armor in support of the Zombie movement.

Wear no clothes, save the zombies!

2 Heroic dye kit codes were up for grabs - 2 going to the first two players to post the accurate no. of zombies on the forums and 1 to the player who posted the best screenshot of the event.

Congrats to baboo, wilson chicardo and chinatown who emerged the winners of the event and many thanks to all Alliance players who took the time to participate and make the event such an enjoyable experience.

P.S. To everyone who's getting GTA4, please invite me to your place soon to let me play it pls? Please, please, please?

IAHGames I-cafe

One of the coolest things that IAHGames acquired last year was its very own cybercafe’ aptly named IAHGames. After all, no gaming company is complete without its very own place to play! :)

Located in central Singapore at Funan IT Mall and easily accessible by bus, train, cab, etc, the cybercafé has served as a hub the past few months for gamers to meet, interact and play together.

In the past, when me or the other Community Managers organized real life events, we always had to scout around for available cybercafés and made the necessary bookings, etc. The convenience of having our very own cybercafé is invaluable as it is much easier now to schedule and organize events.

Currently, the I-café showcases game titles that are carried by IAH like Granado Espada (GE) & Hellgate: London (HGL). On weekends, the I-café is jam-packed with GE gamers engaged in exciting colony wars. Many Hellgaters also frequent the I-café on weekends for their own community generated ‘Alliance Roll Call’ gatherings.

The I-cafe recently launched some pretty sweet membership packages. Non-members pay a standard $3 p/hr while members enjoy some great discounts + receive 1 hour free when they sign up.

SingTel opens the Red Portal event!

SingTel organised a Hellgate: London event last Sunday, 24th February 2008 and the event was a blast!

The event, aptly named The SingTel Red Portal event was held at The Ministry of Sound club (MOS), one of Singapore's hottest nightspots.

Attendees of the event got their hands on goodie bags which were jam packed with fantastic premiums like a Hellgate: London themed Barracuda mousepad, an exclusive 1 mth access code card to Hellgate: London's premium multiplayer content, a 'Blood Phoenix' dye kit code coupon and much more!

A few select Community members were given an opportunity to go behind the scenes and experience what it's like to organise a gaming event! Some were put in-charge of the quest stations and leveling tournament while others assisted in prepping MOS for the event set-up.

Station 3 - 'Tactical Knowledge' Quest Masters

Event attendees engaged in interactive real-life quests which put their powers of observation and knowledge of Hellgate: London to the test.

For the 1st quest station, players had to walk around MOS and search for the various Hellgate: London station maps numbered 1-9. After they had discovered all 9 maps, the players then had to write the names of the stations in the correct order of their sequence.

Quest Station 2 named "Battle Stance" promoted group play. Players were instructed to group up in teams of three and emulate the battle stances of the various Hellgate: London factions - The Templar, the Hunter & the Cabalist.

Quest Station 3 named ' Tactical Knowledge' tested the knowledge players had of HGL. Players had to answer 3 simple questions and those who answered correctly earned a stamp on their quest cards.

For Quest Station 4, players again had to search MOS but this time, they had to look for 8 Hellgate: London monster faces. Each monster face came tagged with a letter and players had to find all 8 letters and decode it correctly to earn their 4th quest stamp.

For the final quest, players had to look for a real life 'Murmur' (HGL in-game NPC). Once they found him, they were given an Alliance sticker which allowed them to turn in for their final quest stamp.

Players who persevered and managed to complete all 5 quests successfully were each rewarded with a 'The Tempest' dye kit code for use in Hellgate: London multiplayer play.

One of the most exciting activities during the event was the Hellgate: London mini leveling tournament where 8 players players battled neck to neck to achieve level 5 as fast as possible. The 1st prize went Thomas Wong who managed to achieve level 5 in under 15 minutes! He bagged himself the top prize of a Chimei 19 inch LCD monitor!

The 2nd prize went to Hong Lim who won himself a pair of SonicGear speakers and the 3rd prize went to Kelvin Ho who a Reclusa gaming keyboard.

Event attendees were also treated to a visual showcase of costumes for the CosPlay competition. Players came decked out in costumes from Hellgate: London, Star Wars, Battlestar Galactica, Bleach and more!

The 1st prize of a Chimei 19 inch LCD gaming monitor went to Jason Khoo who showcased a full Templar costume. I managed to get a short interview with Jason after the competition and this avid CosPlayer revealed that he managed to finish his costume in just 1.5 days in time for the event! Props to Jason for his passion and dedication, the top prize was well earned!

2nd and 3rd prize went to Reno Tan and Felicia who showcased fantastic Cylon (Battlestar Galactica) and Alazif costumes respectively.

All in all, the event was tons of fun! Many thanks to all who assisted in making it happen and congratulations to all contest winners and event attendees who bagged themselves some awesome Hellgate: London premiums and goodies!

Sneak preview on upcoming Community initiatives!

One of my responsibilities and one of the best things I enjoy about being a Community Manager is the ability to initialize and implement initiatives for the Community.

These initiatives can range from in-game events to web / forum contests as well as improvements to the website & forum features.

I conducted a contest on the forums in December 2007 and asked the Community for their suggestions on the initiatives they would like to see more of. I was thoroughly bowled over by the enthusiasm and passion the Community showed by the responses and suggestions that they gave.

Though all the suggestions were fantastic, the implementation of an initiative takes up a lot of time, planning and resources hence not all initiatives are feasible.

I am pleased to announce though that we will be implementing some of the suggested initiatives. Here's a sneak peek of some of the goodies that's in store in the next few months :)

PvP Tournaments
In-game events are currently quite difficult to conduct in HGL due to some restrictions and because the current GM tools are being further developed with extra functions and features.

However, the Community has been so keen on keeling each other and showcasing their PeeVeePee talents that I knew we simply had to give them an opportunity to do just that so I'm pleased to announce that we will be conducting tournaments very, very, soon (:P) so do stay tuned to the website and forums for updates on this.

The reward for this event is pretty awesome too - think unreleased dye kit which will be very difficult to attain again in the future :)

Item Challenge!
I can't release details on this as of now but this initiative is pretty interesting and should have players entertained for hours on end.

CL Hunt
This is an initiative I'm really excited about! I can't go into the complete details of this as yet but I can provide a brief summary of what this is all about. :)

Basically, this initiative will enable the Community to vote for their Community Leaders. Community Leaders will act as the voice & champions for the Community. Community Leaders will also have the opportunity to collaborate and work closely with Community Managers on future initiatives and events.

Dev Tracker - Forum Feature Implementation
This tracker will enable users to easily view which thread was last responded to by a forum admin / moderator.

Hall of Fame - Website Feature Implementation
A section will be implemented on our website soon to showcase the winners of past and present contests for easy reference in the future :)

The dawn of a new year

With the dawn of a new year - 2008, I felt that it was also apt to change my blog skin to a color that better reflects me - Pink. :P

2007 has brought its fair share of challenges. When I first started my job as a Community Manager in March 2007, I never expected the job to entail as many challenges as it did. I wouldn't change a single thing though because all the obstacles & challenges I have faced have been imperative in how much I have grown as a person in 2007.

Many people have the assumption that being a Community Manager is an easy feat and I must admit that I also had the same assumption when I first started this job. Working in the gaming industry is a lot tougher than it looks though. There are days where your self faith is pushed to the very limits and you have to really dig deep into yourself. The biggest lesson I have learnt in 2007 is that one has to always, always maintain the passion in anything that we do. Without this passion, all of our life's goals and accomplishments would have been for naught.

One of my initial responsibilities as Hellgate: London's Community Manager was to oversee the development of our website and forums and I'm incredibly thrilled with how much the website / forum features has been improved over the past few months. These improvements couldn't have been possible without the assistance of the Community though so I thank each and every one of you for your continued enthusiasm in contributing suggestions and ideas.

Though we are unable to implement every idea that is given to us, we do consider the suggestions seriously and endeavor to implement ideas that are feasible.

Some of the excellent suggestions given by the Community have thus been implemented into our website so far.

Alliance Heroes Rankings Feature

- Many of the Community members wanted a way to amicably compete with one another hence this Ranking Feature was implemented to enable that. The Alliance Heroes Rankings feature on IAHGames website also serve to reward players who actively participate in our website / forums initiatives and contests and rewards Community leaders who play an active role in interacting with the other members. This feature is far from complete though and we are still working on adding improvements and enhancements to it in the near future.

Alliance Heroes Rankings Search Feature
- The Community was experiencing some difficulties in searching for their ranking / their buddies' ranking as there was no search function available in the Alliance Heroes Rankings initially. I am pleased to annouce that we have since implemented this feature in to enable players to search for the information easily and view their rankings on the Alliance Heroes ladder.

IAHGames' Dye Kits Page

Dye kits are in-game items to color one's armor in HGL and IAHGames has 12 super awesome colors!! :)

What fun are these dye kits though if you can't experiment with all the cool colors on your characters? Thanks to the Community's suggestion, we have revamped the Dye Kits Page so that players can now try out all the various dyes on their characters, regardless of faction.

Just as I have grown in 2007, I have also watched HGL grow as a game.

I've seen it in its initial alpha stages to what it is now and I get a surge of pride everytime I see a poster of HGL outside or a HGL box in a store.

Granted, the game still has some room for improvement but no game starts off as being perfect. The best thing is when Community feedback is heard and taken seriously and improvements are done which is what is being done with Hellgate: London - ie. class balancing changes, new content (Stonehenge patch) and gameplay improvements. To me, this is one of the best parts of my job. To see something that you care so deeply about get better.

It's difficult to explain the relationship a CM has with a game that he / she is in-charge of. There are so many battles that we fight on a daily basis for the good of the game & the Community that the game becomes such a vital part of our lives and our hearts. I do what I do because I love it. For me, there is no bigger motivational factor than passion for whatever I choose to do.

That is why this is still the best job in the world to me :)

1st Hellgate Alliance Roll Call Event

15th December 2007 marked the first Hellgate Alliance Roll Call gathering at IAHGames cybercafe.

The event turned out to be a blast! Gamers got the opportunity to meet and interact with each other in real life and I finally managed to place faces behind the in-game / forum names. :)

Pewpewing in Hellgate: London

It’s been another crazy and hectic work week for me and unfortunately my busy schedule didn't give me much time to play Hellgate as much as I wanted to.

As little play time as I’ve had though, I’ve thoroughly been enjoying my gaming experience in Hellgate so far. My main character; a Summoner, is pink haired, has two plaits and is one deadly killing machine. *RAWR!*

If I'm going to die, at least I'll die in style.

I’ve always been a ‘cheongster’ kind of player – I love to jump into the fray of the action and just annihilate everything in sight. Of course, most of the time, I’m the one that gets annihilated instead. :P

Being a fan of pet-centric classes, it came as no surprise that I would choose the Summoner as my main. Although the Engineer also had a huge pull for me with his ability to self construct drones and bots, in the end it was the Summoner that won me over.

Interestingly enough, I’ve noticed that the current most popular class in Hellgate is the Guardian, followed closely by the Summoner. Many players with Summoner mains have been incredibly helpful in offering their advice on builds.

There's lots of feedback on an 'uber' Carnagor build to create the ULTIMATE tank. I've also heard that force elementals are able to take over the Carnagor's place as tank pets later in the game, and that build kinda fits my playstyle better as I find it incredibly therapeutic to run around with 100,000 elementals and pewpew everything in sight; especially after a particularly stressful day at work. (You forum flamers, you know who you are! :P) *threatens everyone with a fire extinguisher*

On a more serious note, I know the delay in the implementation of the patch has left many feeling frustrated and I truly understand and sympathize with how you all feel.

Rest assured that all the kinks are being ironed out and we are working around the clock to ensure that we bring the best possible Hellgate: London gaming experience to you guys asap. Thank you to all the gamers who have given their continued support and understanding.

For players who feel disappointment in missing out on the Guy Fawkes & Halloween event, I’d like to take this opportunity to inform all of you that there are lots and lots of goodies lined up. Though I’m not at liberty to disclose the details as yet, I will end this blog entry with a few hints ;)

NO, patch 0.1 is not coming next Halloween! *lol*

*QQ= whining, complaining, etc
The word QQ can be used in this context –
“If you QQ anymore, I’m gonna pewpew your furry bum”

Where has CM Angelace been?!

Hi Guys!

I apologise for my loooooooong lapse in updates. :(

Contrary to popular belief, I haven't disappeared off the face of the earth and neither have I been spending all my time killing demon scum in Hellgate: London (though I'd very much like to!)

Instead, I've been hopping around like a mad Kung Fu Bunny whilst preparing for the Hellgate: London launch which took place on 31st October 2007 @ Funan in Singapore.

It's been a long and sometimes difficult experience these past few months in bringing Hellgate: London to the SEA community but when I saw the enthusiasm and passion etched on the faces of thousands of HGL fans at the October 31st Funan launch event, it made me realise that how very worth it all the hard work was.

I've included a few of my own personal pics from the event over here (my camera battery died after I took around 3 pics and I had charged the battery for over 4 hrs! Booo....) but for fans wanting to see more pictures, do head over to this link for the official photo gallery on IAHGames' website.

Oct 31st launch event @ Funan

As you guys already know, Erich & Max Schaefer from FSS (ex Diablo creators, zomgpewpewpew!) graced the event and helped to sign HGL CE boxes for 100 very lucky & now ecstatic gamers.

Erich & Max still had a few vacation days in Singapore after the event and they really wanted to see the Underwater World in Sentosa so me and my colleague, Dougie took them on a Sentosa day tour.

Thankfully, this time, after a few more hours of charging, my camera actually managed to take more than 3 measly pics....this time it could take 6...

"The Trail of Fire" Road Trip

IAHGames is thinking of planning a Hellgate: London Road Trip across South East Asia which we're calling, "The Trail of Fire” Road Trip, and we'd like to get some input from everyone out there before we proceed with the event - You speak we listen!

We want to hear what the gamers think; tell us if this is a good idea, help us plot a course, suggest a cyber café, guide us to a place of interest or just join us for part of the journey :)

The trip will start from Singapore and head its way north towards Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia, and then South East towards Vietnam, and then north into China and finally Hong Kong. The trip may cover a total distance of 8500KM to 9200KM, which will take place over a period of 2 -3 months. - Can you say, Road Trip!
