Contemporary Glass Jewelry 3...2...1... start!

Talking about Christmas has two aspects for me. One is the personal. I do start Christmas shoppong in August. (Yes, you read it well!) I do not like (might say hate) to shop in mid-December, when most people are in a hurry and impatient. I do not enjoy that. By end of October I am mostly done.

Considering the business part end of October is the time when our business starts to go fast, really fast! The panyizsuzsi contemporary glass jewelry line is real Christmas treasures and they make perfect stocking stuffers! We will not run out or have a low stock by December. In spite of this we will announce our deadines here. Deadline for commision and last shipping day for Europe and the rest of the World. This way we can make sure that you have your presents on time! That is part of the panyizsuzsi guarantee.

Art Jury

We are proud to have the panyizsuzsi fused glass jewelries juried by the National Art Jury in September 2008.
This always feels good to be recognised, not only by friends and relatives, but some professionals. This Jury has quite a background. I remember as a child, that what a big deal was to buy a juried art piece. Today when there is a china shop in every other street I feel it has an even bigger value.

It always makes me happy to buy stuff from artist. This way I do vote against child labor and other nasty things and I do help an artist to live on his or her art! That was emphasized last Christmas to buy handmade and take the handmade pledge!

That is what I thought walking away form Buda Castle, knowing I am an Art Jury Certified Artist!

Target Market for the Indie and Craft Business

Target Market is a business term meaning the market segment to which a particular good or service is marketed. It is mainly defined by age, gender, geography, socio-economic grouping, or any other combination of demographics. It is generally studied and mapped by an organization through lists and reports containing demographic information that may have an effect on the marketing of key products or services.

When you ask people who are they marketing for many of them will say: EVERYONE, since that is the biggest group ever. Do you think is is the right answer? I tell you NO! For an indie business it is just as important to determine the target market as it is for those giant multi-national companies.
Why? Because you HAVE TO know who are you marketing for!
You have to know:

what they like
what are their latest trends are
where do they spend their free time
what do they read
what is important for them

Do you know all of this? If yes, than CONGRATULATION. If not, well, you better do a quick research. Because it is much easier to make and sell your good if you know:

what your target market loves
what their trends are
where you can find them
where to advertise
what catches their eye and soul

Are you willing to work on it to sell more?

It's a Hard Day's Night - or Morning

Well, I knew it early morning it will not be an easy day. As soon as the big ones left for school I started to get rid of the piles of clean clothes, while running the washing machine and changing some really dirty nappies and feeding the small one. Well, I thought she could go back to sleep, so I could speed up a bit, but it was only 8 am. (BTW I forgot to tel that I cut some number cards for school, printed an extra birthday invitation, sharpened the red and blue pencils, filled the school health form and checked the Big Boy's school bag, before they left). In the meanwhile I downloaded the e-mail and unloaded the kiln. I sat down with a cup of the to think about the day: clean up, pick the kids up, wait for the babysitter, presentation on the kindergarten fund raising, that I have to send the address for headmaster of the kindergarten. So, I decided to realax and have a nice breakfast.

I prepared some food and went to the backyard, picked some coctail tomatoes. I sat quiet (the small one was already sleeping) in the late summer sun. My thoughts could not stop, though and I am sure I will hardly remember this breakfast tonight, so that is why I took a picture of it.

While spending out holiday and traveling here and there I forgot to write about one thing! The great improvements in out studio. You would not even believe how we made our fused glass items. Until last Christmas all we had was a lousy glass cutter and a steel ruler.
For Christmas I got a Toyo glass cutter from my husband that I consider my favorite tool! This summer we made lots of new investment. Our KILN has just arrived. It is a cute littel feminine piece: stainless steel, programmable and it also has delay function. Moreover we bought a glass grinder as well!

There was only three programs of the rental kiln is available for us, but experimenting starts now. a little change here and there can make miracles! Here is some of them, without being fully happy with these:

Now we redecorating our studio and getting ready for the Szentendre Day and Night Art Expo.

I was not blogging for three weeks.

I WAS ON A HOLIDAY!

I am sure many of you ask what did I do then?

Apart from caring for my three kids id READ! This is something I do not do, due to the lack of time, during the year.

I bought some good books for the summer. Three of them was English, but all of them were simply great:

1. The Boss Of You

It is all about woman’s indie business. It is in how to be proud and professional, how to run such a business. Well The time is coming soon when I will solely run our family business. Get ready!

2. Soapmaking

This is something that I am really interested at. I learned from this book, that the soaps we use today are really detergents containing petroleum! Yak. It has been a while since I use well crafted homemade soaps!

3. Noé márkája

This was the only Hungarian book on today’s consuming society. Our habits, that we do not even realize. It is a great book!

4. Glass

This book is on glasses. (Unbelievable, isn’t is?) Glass history, fusing thechnics and all kind of neat stuff. It was a lot of fun!

Now, that I had plenty of rest I am relaxed and my To- Do List is quite short. Just washing to do!

My Son's New Room

This is my son's newly decorated room. The aviation deco I found at a local flea market and he loves it. Lately he had a room with those baby printed frieze, but as he is going to school in September I promised him to make a school boy room. Last Monday we bought some paint and painted the whole room even the ceiling (that was not easy at all!)
It has one thing missing. I thought it would be a good idea to have his initial on the shelf. I've found a couple of M's on ebay.com, but they were a bit too expensive. Than I started search Etsy Vintage, but I had no lusk either. At the end I found some good stuff at Etsy.
Koriclarkdesigns is a cute shop for graphis designs and letters. I found a great surfing kind. Than I figured it would be great to follow the aviation feeling of his room. So I ended up with a custom order for his huge M.
I can not wait to have it on the self!

As I told you last week I was getting ready for a big craft fair. The show turned out great. It is always good to see, meet my buyers. Many of them knew me from on--line.

This was a thematic fair and is was all about shopping and decision making concerning shopping. That was a fantastic live-talk. If you are interested on it check this short lecture in English from Barry Schwartz. I simply love what he says. He is right!

This week-end my little daughter needed some extra time and extra attention. She wanted to craft (Guess why?) and have mommy sit right next to her. She agreed that I can work on my glass cabs and turtn them into jewelry. She was wet felting a ball, that she first thought it would bee good to use the nice etsy bought soap. I convinced her, that those are much better for bathing, but she decided that they were gread decoration for our craft table!

Glass Crucifix

When I first started to work with glasses I was not a glass cutting expert with a lousy glass cutter. I do not think i have to explain more of this, but I tell you I never discarded the little bits and pieces. I started saving them up in a little box.

One day I started to think about how I could use these little triangles. I ended up making a baby blue crucifix. It was left in my studio for a while. First I did not find the perfect bail and then the ribbon was not the right color. One day I finished it. I thought it would be a nice baptism present for a baby boy.

Couple of days later I went to a craft fair, where I met an old friend of mine, who I have not seen for years. She came to me and said: We are going to a Christening today, don't you have any presents for that?I did, there was the baby blue cross. I was shocked. It really made my day.

Now I started to cut tiny triangles again and make these crucifix on purpose!

This a pair of Crocs. You either love it or hate it, no other feelings. I personally think they are cool, somehow funky. I was looking for comfortable stuff anyway and shooes are important go be comfy and good quality. For people going to fairs and shows - on either side of the booth - comfortable shoes are a must!
So this week i did decide to buy one pair of them. They are exactly like on the picture. You might ask, is that really so great. Well, to tell you the truth, I don't know. As I ordered them on ebay, just a couple of days ago, but I hardly can wait to have it and wear it!

I love these kind of stuff.

Busy bee

Yes, this is me a busy bee. I bet you ask what she is doing now days! Well, a professional web site for my glass design. It is hard work. i want it to be really great and as I love to keep my hands on the most important stuff I decided to do my own design. So these days I almost sleep with my computer. I write the text part daytime and spend some time at night on the graphic part. I love it and I truly ope, that you will too.

In the meanwhile I did not stop fusing. That s the main point, isn't it. So this stripy set is one of my newest. I simply love them. Actually I was buying a book, that hat a very nice plate in it with a great amount of black and bold, but transparent reds and purples. That plat was simply great, that it inspired me to make this brand new set.

Yesterday I did have a happy day!
You might know we live in an artsy little town, called Sznetendre. It is really close to Budapest and many artists and architect live here. I love to walk around the tiny streets of the downtown. Look at art shops and numerous art galleries.
One of them is the Péter-Pál Gallery, run by a local textile designer Anna Pauli. This gallery has modern, contemporary stuff. They are all high quality art! Couple of weeks ago i peeked in there ans started to talk to the lady in the gallery. As I had my glass jeweleries on she asked about it and advised me to talk to the shop owner, who is a lecturer at the University of Art and Design. I was proud of this and called her. We had a meeting last night. She loved my jewelry. She said: I love the way you use and handle colors and shapes. She will sell my art in her Gallery.
