This past weekend, a few of my friends (myself included) decided to try out the "Lunchbox Laboratory" in Ballard. It's a newish burger joint with the best burgers I've had in my entire life. In fact, the 4 other people accompanying me agreed they were just as great.

Peter, Chris and I had actually traveled there a few weeks earlier when we read about it in Seattle's Stranger. We loved it then and wanted to go back.

Unfortunately, this visit was after The Seattle Times had written about it. Now everyone in Seattle wanted to go.

Upon arrival, we raced to the entrance to make sure the people parked near us didn't "out-white" us by getting there first. Then, after we got in line, we noticed that the white people we raced included Howard Schultz, CEO of Starbacks, his wife(?) and some random dude.

The point of the story is that he decided to leave after seeing the line. I guess I'll leave the next time I'm in line at Starbucks. I don't care how good the coffee is, speed it up Howard!

This time she has recruited the superstar help of Justin Timberlake, Timbaland, and Pharrell Williams. These guys are sure to create several instant hits on her new album Hard Candy.

It's Easy If You Try

I'm struggling to find things more cliche than what I'm about to tell you:

I've recently become extremely obsessed with John Lennon's "Imagine". It's such a beautiful song and I just love what he's trying to say; it's so simple too.

Then I found the music video that he and Yoko Ono made and I started to become really infatuated with her! I mean, she knew this man better than anyone else, so why does she get so much criticism in the media? Regardless of rumors being true or false, she's pretty badass, and I love her role in this music video. Apparently her poetry was one of the biggest influences for what Rolling Stone called the third best song of all time.

I'd be lying if I said that I didn't love Perez Hilton and everything he's capable of. This includes his ability to make a band/actress/YouTube-star famous in hours...but I really can't dig his taste in music most the time. This latest suggestion of his takes the cake. Celine Dion Is 39 Years Old

I'm not sure if many people know that Elliott Smith was nominated for an Oscar in 1998 for best original song, "Miss Misery". What I really doubt people know is who he was up against for the award:

Trisha Yearwood performed "How Do I Live" (nominated from Con Air) on a blank stage. Note: She didn't even write it. Diane Warren wrote it, which is kind of like buying a chandelier designed by Dale Chihuly. Additional note: Trish, Di and Dale are all virgos...slight upgrade.

Elliott also performed on a blank stage with light string accompaniment. He gave a graceful bow at the end and exited stage right. Note: Elliott originally refused to perform at the Oscars but after they told him that someone else would sing it if he didn't, he gave in.

THEN, that betch Celine Dion comes out to perform "My Heart Will Go On". The stage fills with fog and an entire orchestra wearing white tuxedos backs her up. They even let her wear that damn necklace from the movie!

And of course Celine won. Madonna announced the winner and commented sarcastically, "What a shocker!" Well you know what Celine, Elliott would've won if he had fog and diamonds!!

March 15: Spring Scavenger Hunt FUNdraiser!

Well, this is it! It is finally happening- so don't miss it! Spring into Spring Scavenger Hunt 2008.

WHAT: A slightly more adult version of the most popular collegiate tradition started by my roomie and friends, the Scavenger Hunt (explanation for uninitiated below). If you missed the one this fall, don't miss it again. Ring in the spring with the boldest, most fab-tastic, bad as it can be (in the oh-so-good way) Scavenger Hunt Fundraiser of the season. Costumes or St. Patty's day attire welcome (but NOT necessary). Pre-gaming encouraged. Come Prepared.

Teams of Three will be completing various tasks, searching out specific items, and testing their collective knowledge, creativity, and ability to humiliate oneself in the effort to finish a list. Prizes will be awarded for Fastest, Slowest, Most Creative, Least Committed, Best Costumes, Best and Worst Prepared, Least Likely to Develop Cankles, Most Likely to run for President, and of course, Best Smile. You DO NOT need a team to come- we'll help you find teammates of you need.

WHERE: Fremont area, beginning and ending at the top of the hill in Gasworks Park.

WHEN: Saturday, March 15th. Check-in is at 4:00 pm, hunt begins at 5:00 pm.

HOW MUCH: $20 per person. It goes entirely to a good Cause. Keep reading.

WHY: This is the important part. Some of you may know us (Lucie, Siri and Meghan), and know that we have undertaken the dual goal of training for a marathon in Prague and raising nearly $20,000 towards research and a cure for Leukemia, Lymphoma and Myeloma. We're coming close to our goal, but this is it! Our final push! Each participant will donate $20 and ALL (count it) will go towards the mission of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Bring cash to the event. You will have an absolute blast, feel good about it, and and get nearly that much money's worth in booze and prizes post-event. (****There will be a party at the scaveng-tastic bar, the DOCK, in Fremont post-hunt.)

HOW: It's going to be an adventure, so come as prepared as you feel comfortable. Winning teams have come dressed in tights and headlamps, with Spanish dictionaries in hand, but winning teams have also humiliated just such preparation by good planning, quick wits, and a healthy dose of 'kickassedness'.

A brief but important history. Four such hunts occurred during college, and they were a rowdy success. Examples of items included on previous lists are as follows: a freestanding volcano of bacon bits at least 4 inches high, getting in a "foot race" with a stranger (and winning), and crayon cartoons of the trials and tribulations of the 43rd President of the United States. It has grown into quite an event. The Spring into Spring 2008 hunt list is safely and securely locked in the "Scav Hunt Steering Committee Vault O' Secrets."

A little music lesson for you:

Nick Drake was a popular musician and has been credited as one of the most influential English artists of the past 50 years. But during his life, he never felt appreciated and killed himself at the unfortunately young age of 26.

Here's the really unfortunate thing: after Volkswagen used his song Pink Moon for their Cabrio commercial in 2000, his albums sold more copies in the following month than in the previous 30 years. I just hope someone bought a Cabrio after seeing this commercial. Enjoy:
