Also there is always something you can miss in reviewing the logs. I found a very powerful and cool tool on <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_0" class="blsp-spelling-error">Codeplex</span> site to speed up the reporting operations. You can use this to rapidly identify the most evident problems and then perform a more in-depth analysis beginning from its output.<br /><br />Performance Analysis of Logs (PAL) Tool is based on <b><span id="SPELLING_ERROR_1" class="blsp-spelling-error">Relog</span> command</b>. "The tool generates an HTML based report which graphically charts important performance counters and throws alerts when thresholds are exceeded. The thresholds are originally based on thresholds defined by the Microsoft product teams and members of Microsoft support, but continue to be expanded by this ongoing project. This tool is not a replacement of traditional performance analysis, but it automates the analysis of performance counter logs enough to save you time. This is a <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_2" class="blsp-spelling-error">VBScript</span> and requires Microsoft <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_3" class="blsp-spelling-error">LogParser</span>."<br /><br />In the past I had performance <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_4" class="blsp-spelling-corrected">analysis</span> with other tools and script I made myself, but PAL is actually my preferred solution. Four things i love from this tools:<br /><br />- Job queue. You can create your <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_5" class="blsp-spelling-corrected">analysis</span> job queue and automate multiple <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_6" class="blsp-spelling-corrected">analysis</span>.<br />- You can set the priority of the reporting process.<br />- The tool is able to manage counters from Server products like Exchange and <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_7" class="blsp-spelling-error">SQL</span>.<br />- You can customize your template trough XML and model your <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_8" class="blsp-spelling-corrected">analysis</span> based on your needs.<br /><br />Really a good job from the authors.<br /><br /><b>Performance Analysis of Logs (PAL) Tool </b><br /><a href="http://www.codeplex.com/PAL">http://www.codeplex.com/PAL</a><br /><br /><b>Download link</b><br /><a href="http://www.codeplex.com/PAL/Release/ProjectReleases.aspx">http://www.codeplex.com/PAL/Release/ProjectReleases.aspx</a> </div><div dir="ltr"></div><div dir="ltr">-- </div><div dir="ltr">Andrea <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_9" class="blsp-spelling-error">Tedeschi</span> <a href="http://www.andreatedeschi.com/">Blog</a> <a href="http://www.linkedin.com/in/andreatedeschi"><span id="SPELLING_ERROR_10" class="blsp-spelling-error">Linkedin</span> Profile</a> <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_11" class="blsp-spelling-error">andrea</span> (at) <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_12" class="blsp-spelling-error">andreatedeschi</span> (dot) com</div><div dir="ltr"></div><div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/6512569884862970057-8936272951682457807?l=www.andreatedeschi.com'/></div>Andrea Tedeschihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04849152150576855214noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6512569884862970057.post-35926510959642156522008-09-12T08:40:00.002+02:002008-09-23T08:30:16.955+02:00Windows 2008 Server Core Configurator<strong>Windows 2008 Server Core <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_0" class="blsp-spelling-error">Configurator</span></strong> tool allows you to simplify the configuration of a new installation of <strong>Windows 2008 Server Core</strong>. So this is another more competitive feature that brings Microsoft Virtualization and Hyper-V at the top level of this market channel.<br /><br />More informations available on the official page:<br /><a href="http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc501231(TechNet.10).aspx">http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc501231(TechNet.10).aspx</a><br /><br />The customers can download the tool here:<br />Offline Virtual Machine Servicing Tool<br /><a href="http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=8408ecf5-7afe-47ec-a697-eb433027df73&DisplayLang=en">http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=8408ecf5-7afe-47ec-a697-eb433027df73&DisplayLang=en</a><br /><br />--<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/6512569884862970057-7262025099907024423?l=www.andreatedeschi.com'/></div>Andrea Tedeschihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04849152150576855214noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6512569884862970057.post-30798461389871155632008-07-14T17:42:00.005+02:002008-07-14T18:19:06.856+02:00How to test Hyper-V with Failover ClusteringThis link to the Microsoft Download Certer will help all people who wants to approach the <strong>Failover Clustering in Hyper-V</strong> to take advantage of the <strong>High Availability</strong> solution offered by the combination of these two technologies. Here you can find an easy step-by-step guide on how to configure the failover cluster and make your virtual machines high availables. You will need an Active Directory environment and at least two phisycal nodes with Hyper-V requirements and two network adapters (on this argument I will post an article soon) and an iSCSI SAN device or a third host to emulate the iSCSI SAN (for example with WinTarget software). At the end of the setup you will test the planned and unplanned failovers.<br /><br />Step-by-Step Guide for Testing Hyper-V and Failover Clustering<br /><a href="http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=cd828712-8d1e-45d1-a290-7edadf1e4e9c&DisplayLang=en">http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=cd828712-8d1e-45d1-a290-7edadf1e4e9c&DisplayLang=en</a><br /><br />--<br /><a href="http://technorati.com/tag/Hyper-V" rel="tag"></a><br /><a href="http://technorati.com/tag/Virtualization" rel="tag"></a><br /><a href="http://technorati.com/tag/Windows+Server" rel="tag"></a><div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/6512569884862970057-3079846138987115563?l=www.andreatedeschi.com'/></div>Andrea Tedeschihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04849152150576855214noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6512569884862970057.post-39248732236056666262008-07-11T16:33:00.008+02:002008-12-10T16:24:34.022+01:00How to graphically manage Windows with PowerGUII believe we should to mention this nice open source project based on Windows PowerShell that allows you to graphically manage your Windows systems using the PowerShell commands so also create and store your own script's archive. The PowerGUI contains a pre-built Active Directory, Exchange 2007, Operation Manager 2007 and Networking Power Packs with the most common shell scripts. Later you can see some screenshots of the tool...<br /><br />Visit <a href="http://www.powergui.org/">http://www.powergui.org</a> to download and install the PowerGUI.<br /><br /><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_6ZVeQV9JRLA/SHd1IoO4kAI/AAAAAAAAALw/-3KoK6AAqHc/s1600-h/PowerGUI-01.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5221771084058628098" style="CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_6ZVeQV9JRLA/SHd1IoO4kAI/AAAAAAAAALw/-3KoK6AAqHc/s320/PowerGUI-01.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><br />A sample to get the list of running processes with statistics (Get-Process).<br /><br /><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_6ZVeQV9JRLA/SHd1IhekROI/AAAAAAAAAL4/h3SqvEoJfM4/s1600-h/PowerGUI-02.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5221771082245358818" style="CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_6ZVeQV9JRLA/SHd1IhekROI/AAAAAAAAAL4/h3SqvEoJfM4/s320/PowerGUI-02.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><br />This is the PowerGUI built-in script editor:<br /><br /><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_6ZVeQV9JRLA/SHd6misr7qI/AAAAAAAAAMQ/cWvrqtGQRO0/s1600-h/PowerGUI-04.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5221777095527231138" style="CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_6ZVeQV9JRLA/SHd6misr7qI/AAAAAAAAAMQ/cWvrqtGQRO0/s320/PowerGUI-04.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><br />--<br /><a href="http://technorati.com/tag/PowerShell" rel="tag"></a><a href="http://technorati.com/tag/Windows+Vista" rel="tag"></a><a href="http://technorati.com/tag/Windows+Server" rel="tag"></a><div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/6512569884862970057-3924873223605666626?l=www.andreatedeschi.com'/></div>Andrea Tedeschihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04849152150576855214noreply@blogger.com0
