The commission also started coordinating <br /><br />preparations for the forthcoming presidential elections.<br /><br /><br />Murat Karriyev, chairman of the election commission of Turkmenistan, handed official registration certificates to <br /><br />the presidential candidates.<br /><br /><br />The candidates, first deputy governor of Dashoguz province, Atajikov, acting president of Turkmenistan, <br /><br />Berdymuhammedov, governor of Abadan town, Garajaev, governor of Karabekaul district, Gurbanov, deputy <br /><br />minister for oil and gas, Nuriyev and governor of Turkmenbashy city, Pomanov, arrived one by one to consult <br /><br />with the chairman of the election commission.<br /><br /><br />The election commission decided to create 65 electoral districts in Turkmenistan. The boundaries of these <br /><br />districts would coincide with the borders of the electoral districts for district and municipal Khalk Maslahaty.<br /><br /><br />The commission discussed with the candidates the sources of financing of their campaign. <br /><br /><br />Minister of communications, R Khojakurbanov, reported readiness for elections. He informed the chairman that <br /><br />telephone lines and radio and telegraph links had been established between all the electoral districts.<br /><br /><br />Voting would be held on 11 February 2007 from 8 am to 6 pm.
