I'm sorry. I've been doing way too much.

Anyway, enough excuses. I'm only going to post on www.itsmyblog.com from now on. I originally started it as a politics site, but I decided I'm going to rant and rave about all sorts of topics and not limit myself to just politics. So everyone update your bookmarks.Uttleshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06992382782551700930noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6495588.post-1162406857698834152006-11-01T13:47:00.000-05:002006-11-01T13:47:37.853-05:00I'm starting a new politics website, looking for help!I want to put "the people" back into politics. I started a website named Populus to do just that. The trouble is: I have tons of great ideas but not much time to actually implement them, and nowhere near enough money to pay people to do it for me. So I thought I'd come to the digg community for help. Take a look and see if you like the idea!

read more | digg storyUttleshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06992382782551700930noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6495588.post-1161616222786859352006-10-23T11:10:00.000-04:002006-10-23T11:10:22.906-04:00Collge Gameday at Clemson

Awesome!Uttleshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06992382782551700930noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6495588.post-1161375332070080812006-10-20T16:11:00.000-04:002006-10-20T20:53:38.603-04:00Opera is pretty sweetI usually browse the web with Firefox using about 5 tabs:
Gmail
Digg
Google Reader
TigerNet
Myspace

Then I open and close new tabs as I find interesting links to click on and such. A lot of times Firefox will freeze up or start responding extremely slowly and when I check the task manager it appears that Firefox is hogging up about 250 MB of RAM. Now my machine only has about 512 MB total so this is a significant chunk.

I switched to Opera today - www.opera.com - and I started browsing with the same setup. 5 tabs, 3 AJAX heavy sites, 1 terribly designed site (Myspace), and 1 pretty light site. Now, my memory consumption for Opera is about 130 MB. I checked it at startup, after running about 30 minutes, and then just now after about 3 hours. It's still about the same right around 130 MB. What's better is that it hasn't had any problems with speed or locking up.

I would recommend trying Opera out. It's free and it's really fast. I think I'm going to use it from now on.Uttleshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06992382782551700930noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6495588.post-1158287768207139052006-09-14T22:36:00.000-04:002006-09-18T11:50:38.386-04:00Dad won a pro fishing tournament!Fishin' Coach Wins pro fishing tournament

Holy crap! Last week I moved back to my house in Lawrenceville. I had to kick the renters out because of several reasons, mainly they weren't paying rent, and people were living in the house that I didn't know about. So now I'm trying to get everything straightened up and improve the house while I'm here. I'm going to stay here until I can sell it, so wish me luck on that.

I've been travelling a lot for work as well, which has made everything that much more hectic. This summer I've had three big trips (not counting the daytrips): two seperate week-long stays in Santa Clara, CA, and a week-long trip to the UK. I'm leaving again Sunday for the UK and I'll be there for a week and a half before flying over to Amsterdam to attend the IBC tradeshow there. Then I'm flying back that sunday.

So, I'm going to miss the beginning of football season, which sucks, but such is life. gotta pay the bills.

Hope everyone is doing well. talk to y'all later!Uttleshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06992382782551700930noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6495588.post-1155931663186432612006-08-18T16:07:00.000-04:002006-08-18T16:07:43.193-04:00How to perform the perfect golf swingAn instruction video on how to perfect your golf swing courtesy of videojug.

read more | digg storyUttleshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06992382782551700930noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6495588.post-1155930896813853752006-08-18T15:54:00.000-04:002006-08-18T15:55:24.453-04:00Free AJAX tabs using the DOM"Have you seen pages before that have cool changing content while the page doesn't actually reload? You know, the one where you can just press "digg" and the digg count auto-updates...

Well here's a hack for Blogger that will make it happen.

First, change your settings so that you allow item links.
>Settings -> Formatting -> Show Link Field = Yes

Second, insert this code into your template somewhere between the Blogger tags:

<BlogItemURL>

</BlogItemURL>

Now, any time you create a new post, if you submit it to digg or someone else does, you can go to digg, grab the digg_url, then paste it into the Link field. Re-publish your post, and Blogger will automatically show the digg button now!

PS - you can style it by adding diggbutton style information to your css file.

Hope you all find this useful.Uttleshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06992382782551700930noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6495588.post-1155685993054987262006-08-15T19:53:00.000-04:002006-08-15T19:53:13.153-04:00ADHD Cure from the '50's and '60's

hahahahahahahahahahaUttleshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06992382782551700930noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6495588.post-1155235598138513422006-08-10T14:42:00.000-04:002006-08-10T14:46:38.213-04:00Deterring TerrorismI was just thinking about terrorism, and I was reading this article about nuclear war and M.A.D. detterence, and how it doesn't relate to Iran. It made me think: what if Iran provided terrorists with the nuclear weapons and the means to deploy them in the United States? How would we know it was Iran? How long would it take the UN to send in inspectors and actually find any evidence?
Then I had an idea: How about we make a proclamation: The next time a terror attack is carried out in the United States, and we have proof that it isn't home-grown, we respond by immediately vaporizing the entire country of Iran. We could use nuclear warheads or MOABs, but either way it would be the instant, distant, absolute destruction of the entire country.

It's an extremely radical idea, and nothing anyone would actually want to happen, but in all honesty, is there another way to stop these people from their eventuality of using nuclear weapons on us? Diplomacy is obviously not working, and their stated goal, and their actions so far, are obviously for our destruction at all costs, so how about we raise the stakes a little bit?

Iran, you've done more than any other country to promote terrorism, so it's now your job to stop it. If you don't, you will be annihilated.

I Think it's crazy enough it would actually work.
Uttleshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06992382782551700930noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6495588.post-1155221452164200292006-08-10T10:45:00.000-04:002006-08-10T10:53:55.976-04:00Penn and Teller: Bullshit! Tommy Bowden blames his failures on everything but himself, and most notably on Clemson's facilities. Take note of what a real football coach sounds like.

One more for good measure: "To me, the essence of coaching is adjusting."

My God. Just to see Tommy Bowden make one adjustment in a game would be a blessing.Uttleshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06992382782551700930noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6495588.post-1154540504992216812006-08-02T13:41:00.000-04:002006-08-02T14:19:24.390-04:00EA wants a ticket for the Wii trainEA's interest in the Wii is good news for Nintendo and its fans. So you have to know the Digg url of your story before you even write your story... sortof a paradox.

However, if you use digg's submit link to submit a story that has already been entered, you are redirected to that story's page. In that case, the URLOFSTORY is sitting right there after the redirect. The problem is, how do I get that value?

So, here's the pseudocode of what I think I need:

Script in head:
finddiggurl(permalink){
somehowfindlink('http://www.digg.com/submit?phase=2&url=' &
permalink);
}
...

Code in body:

I've been searching for some method of prefetching the final (after redirect) url but I can't seem to find anything. Does anyone out there have any ideas?

PS - I'd additionally like some logic to go into what is displayed in the blog post.
ie:

If digg_url contains 'submit' then
display a generic "digg this" image
else

end

I have no idea how to do that either. Any help with any of this would be great!
Uttleshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06992382782551700930noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6495588.post-1153950122551093772006-07-26T17:42:00.000-04:002006-07-26T17:43:45.986-04:00Share and EnjoyI was reading an article on AdGlobe Tech Blog and I noticed they have a boatload of sharing links on their page. Hopefully some of you will find this a useful source of information.

read more | digg story

This is a good illustration:
Uttleshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06992382782551700930noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6495588.post-1153346396841201682006-07-19T17:59:00.000-04:002006-07-19T17:59:56.850-04:00I've been doing some web work...I made a new political blog: It's My Blog
I think it's pretty spiffy. I'm especially proud of all the links.

I'm also revamping my namesake page. I used to have a business called PresentSense, but it didn't do as well as hoped. So, I'm just going to do business under my personal name, and through my personal website. It's TomUtley.com

Check em out if you have the time.
Uttleshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06992382782551700930noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6495588.post-1153251235845634322006-07-18T15:33:00.000-04:002006-07-18T15:33:55.863-04:00Wal-Mart Myspace? He was just giving an interview to a severely biased BBC (anti-Israel) when he said "to better deal with Iran, America should stop it's anti-Iran rhetoric."

Anti-Iran rhetoric? Oh you mean when we say "we don't want a country run by terrorists to have nukes." Yeah, I guess that is insensitive. I mean in reality we could just hit them with a few thermonuclear devices and turn the whole place into glass, but we restrain ourselves there. I guess that just isn't enough. I guess when they gather together and chant "death to America!" on a daily basis, we should just take that as a cute alliteration rather than a literal threat. I guess we should....

no, enough of that. Let's be real here. Iran and it's government wants to see us all dead. There simply is no alternate explanation. You wonder why we're having a hard time in Iraq? Iran. Want to know why Shiites are roaming the streets and executing civilians? Iran. Want to know why Hizbullah is trying to start WW3 by pissing Israel off? Iran. Want to know why gas is so damned expensive? Iran.

The answer is clear to me. Iran wants to take the world back to the dark ages. The rest of the world is too weak and too spineless to do anything about them. It's time we use our new regional strategic base (Iraq) and wipe this problem out before it's too late. If we don't, Iran will get its wish.Uttleshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06992382782551700930noreply@blogger.com
