Using a child's simple Spirograph kit she has greedily drawn the same motif, over and over again, usually within circular or grid-like structures. The process produces moments of chance that have to be dealt with, yet, within all the works there is a planned sense of order which is allowed to continue until the system breaks down. For example, ink runs dry, pens slip or paper tears. The drawings are a celebration of process; a process which is, like a long distance walk, not only labour intensive but also tedious, banal and uncomfortable. Ironically the toy, with its origin in play, fun and games, has been subverted into an instrument of mental and physical torment. Taking the process of drawing as her starting point MacMurray will drape the plate-glass window at the front of the gallery with a ‘lethal’ curtain of delicate steel wool. In the main gallery space tangled rubber doodles will exude from the walls beside scattered strands of genuine human hair the artist will adhere to the walls. Six artists have presented a visual response to a textile piece that is currently held in the Crafts Council Collection – the Asentamiento Dress by Julie Cook.  Using this dress as the ‘muse’ artists Colette Bryce, David Birkin, Dunne and Raby with Noam Toram, Tamsin van Essen, Arabel Lebrusan and &lt;a href="http://www.suite-studiogroup.co.uk/pages/susie_macmurray.html"&gt;Susie MacMurray&lt;/a&gt; present work that responds to what they feel the dress signifies.
