Lesley Halliwell is showing at Bloc Projects, Sheffield in a group show by artists both from Sheffield and those who have shown as part of Bloc's exhibitions programme since its inception in 2005. The work is unified through medium and scale - all pieces are drawings on unframed, A4 paper. Work is for sale throughout the show through sealed bids, with a reserve price of £20 on each piece. 50% of the income from works sold will go directly towards supporting the continuation of Bloc's programme.

Susie MacMurray will be showing new work at Islington Mill as a result of her 2 month residency in the Mill’s gallery space.

Lost & Found presents MacMurray’s recent series of photograms Relics of Sound commissioned by Nottingham Castle, alongside a new piece of work Widow, which has been made in the gallery during the last 8 weeks. Constructed from black napa leather and approximately 100,000 silver adamantine straight pins Widow is the fourth in a series of garment sculptures she has made with the help of Mill owner, Bill Campbell.

Join Carson & Miller to play Another Game We Made Up at Artist's Book Fair Liverpool, A Foundation on Saturday 20th June 2009, 3-5pm.

Carson & Miller will be playing Another Game We Made Up and invite you to come along. The game is based around the simple selection of cards and the asking and answering of questions - you are welcome to come and play or to simply observe.

Carson & Miller will also have a stall at the Fair on Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st June where many of their books and other printed matter will be for sale.

Lesley Halliwell is exhibiting a new ambitious drawing, Fanatic, 4500 minutes, in Superabundant: A Celebration of Pattern at Turner Contemporary, Margate. The exhibition features work by nine artists who make use of pattern and decoration in very different ways, some adopting a systems approach to pattern whilst others are more fluid and organic. Tempus Mutatum

Susie MacMurray’s Tempus Mutatum (Time/change) has been made for the Edwardian
Bandstand in the grounds of Nottingham Castle. It can be viewed from outside the structure throughout the viewing period; access to the interior of the Bandstand will be possible on certain days and for pre-booked groups - see signage on site or call 0115 915 3655 for more details.

MacMurray’s series of related photograms will also be on display in the Castle’s South Hall. Lucy Stevens’ Walk With Me will take you on a binaural audio tour of the Castle grounds: a guided walk with a difference. The tour begins at the Gate House,where you can borrow an MP3 player for a small (refundable) deposit. Alternatively, you can come prepared by downloading the tour (from 6 April) at http://www.castlewalkwithme.blogspot.com/.

The commissions are on display from Friday 10 April - Sunday 7 June 2009. Open daily, 10am - 5pm

Lesley Halliwell: Hypotrochoids

Over the last 6 years Lesley Halliwell has become known for her large scale, industrious Spirograph drawings. Using a child's simple Spirograph kit she has greedily drawn the same motif, over and over again, usually within circular or grid-like structures. The process produces moments of chance that have to be dealt with, yet, within all the works there is a planned sense of order which is allowed to continue until the system breaks down. For example, ink runs dry, pens slip or paper tears. The drawings are a celebration of process; a process which is, like a long distance walk, not only labour intensive but also tedious, banal and uncomfortable. Ironically the toy, with its origin in play, fun and games, has been subverted into an instrument of mental and physical torment. These large scale obsessive works are feats of endurance, titled by the length of time they took to make.

Susie MacMurray is taking part in Second Lives: Remixing the Ordinary, the inaugural exhibition at the Museum of Arts & Design when it opens in a new building at 2 Columbus Circle in September 2008. The exhibition features work by 50 international established and emerging artists from all five continents who create objects and installations comprised of ordinary and everyday manufactured articles, most originally made for another functional purpose.

University of Hertfordshire Galleries is delighted to present Drawn, a new exhibition of site-specific works by Susie MacMurray. Taking the process of drawing as her starting point MacMurray will drape the plate-glass window at the front of the gallery with a ‘lethal’ curtain of delicate steel wool. In the main gallery space tangled rubber doodles will exude from the walls beside scattered strands of genuine human hair the artist will adhere to the walls. The impressive sculptural qualities of the installation will contrast sharply with the suggested
vulnerability of the body, a recurring theme in MacMurray’s installations.

Object as Muse

Crafts Council, Touring Exhibition 2008/09, Winchester Discovery Centre, Jewry Street, Winchester 8th August to 19th October 2008

Object as Muse is an exhibition of work by seven artists working in varying disciplines including ceramics, drawing and photography. Six artists have presented a visual response to a textile piece that is currently held in the Crafts Council Collection – the Asentamiento Dress by Julie Cook. Using this dress as the ‘muse’ artists Colette Bryce, David Birkin, Dunne and Raby with Noam Toram, Tamsin van Essen, Arabel Lebrusan and Susie MacMurray present work that responds to what they feel the dress signifies. As a result we are presented with a poem, a photo, a film, six ceramic vessels, a silver mantilla and a drawing that all explore prevalent themes in Julie Cooks work.
