The Europeans, Russians, Chinese and others are competing for bragging rights to develop the next generation of manned spacecraft.

A Lady Named Irena - a true story

There recently was a death of a 98 year old lady named Irena.
During WWII, Irena, got permission to work in the Warsaw Ghetto.
She had an ulterior motive...

She KNEW what the Nazi's plans were for the Jews, (being German).
Irena smuggled infants out in the bottom of her tool box she carried, and she carried in the back of her truck a Burlap sack, (for larger kids).
She also had a dog in the back, that she trained to bark when the Nazi soldiers let her in, and out of the ghetto.

The soldiers of course wanted nothing to do with the dog, and the barking covered the kids/infants noises.

During her time and course of doing this, she managed to smuggle out and save 2500 kids/infants.

She was caught, and the Nazi's broke both her legs, and arms, and beat her severely.
Irena kept a record of the names of all the kids she smuggled out, and kept them in a glass jar, buried under a tree in her back yard.

After the war, she tried to locate any parents that may have survived it, and reunited the family.
Most of course had been gassed.

Those kids she helped got placed into foster family homes, or adopted.
Last year Irena was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize....
She LOST.

Marine Gunnery Sgt. Gary Maziarz said patriotism motivated him to join a spy ring, smuggle secret files from Camp Pendleton and give them to law enforcement officers for anti-terrorism work in Southern California.

He knew his group was violating national security laws. But he said bureaucratic walls erected by the military and civilian agencies were hampering intelligence sharing and coordination, making the nation more vulnerable to terrorists.

AUSTIN, Texas—A bipartisan majority of the U.S. Senate passed legislation yesterday to modernize the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA), allowing American intelligence professionals to gather critical additional information to detect and deter terrorists. Yet U.S. Senate candidate Rick Noriega opposed the measure, putting him far outside the mainstream and on the opposite side of most Texas Democrats.

Noriega objected to a provision in the FISA reform that prevents lawsuits against telecommunications companies that acted in good faith at the request of the administration and monitored potential terrorist communications. Thanks in part to disruption of terrorist planning, the U.S. has not suffered another domestic attack since Sept. 11, 2001.

DALLAS — What do "black hole," "angel food cake," and "devil's food cake" have in common?

They're all racist terms, says a Dallas County, Texas, official.
A county commissioners' meeting this week over traffic tickets turned into a tense discussion over race when one commissioner said the county's collections office was like a certain astronomical phenomenon.

"It sounds like Central Collections has become a black hole," Commissioner Kenneth Mayfield, who is white, said during the Monday meeting.

Iran Test-Fires More Missiles in Gulf; Rice Issues Warning

TEHRAN, Iran — Iran test-fired more long-range missiles overnight in a second round of exercises meant to show that the country can defend itself against any attack by the U.S. or Israel, Iranian state television reported Thursday.

The weapons have "special capabilities" and included missiles launched from naval ships in the Persian Gulf, along with torpedoes and surface-to-surface missiles, the broadcast said. It did not elaborate.

A brief video clip showed two missiles being fired simultaneously in the darkness.

Yemen Nationals at Guantanamo Pose Problem for U.S.

WASHINGTON — U.S. and Yemen remain at odds over a proposal to release more than one-third of the detainees from Guantanamo Bay, officials said Monday, even as the Bush administration wrestles with the future of the military prison.

About 100 of the approximately 270 prisoners remaining at Guantanamo Bay are Yemeni nationals. A U.S. delegation visited the capital city of San'a last week to discuss the possible transfer of a few detainees to Yemen. Yemeni officials hoped to negotiate the release of all but the most dangerous prisoners.

"There is no progress at all," said Waleed Alshahari, an official following the talks for the Yemeni Embassy in Washington. "The situation remains as it is."

A Fitting Tribute to a Slain Navy SEAL Gains Attention

A little-known tribute some Navy SEALs gave to a fallen comrade is gaining notice.
Petty Officer Michael A. Monsoor was killed in battle in Iraq in September 2006, and posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor in April.

His funeral in Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in San Diego was attended by “nearly every SEAL on the West Coast,” President Bush said.

Report: Schoolboys Get Detention for Refusing to Pray to Allah

Two boys were punished this week for refusing to kneel on prayer mats and worship Allah during a class demonstration on Islam, the Daily Mail reported.

Irate parents said a religious education teacher at the Alsager High School in England told students to wear Muslim headgear during a lesson on Tuesday. "But if Muslims were asked to go to church on Sunday and take Holy Communion, there would be war," the grandfather of one of the students said.

The two boys belong to a class that includes 11- to 12-year-olds, and after their refusal to participate they were given detention, the story says

Los Angeles Mayor Contradicts Himself on Immigration Policy, Critics Say

LOS ANGELES — With gang violence on the rise in Los Angeles, the city's mayor is criticizing the Department of Homeland Security for what he says are its misguided priorities on immigration enforcement.

Recent raids on LA area businesses by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents have resulted in the arrest of hundreds of illegal workers. But Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa says ICE is using scarce funds to target “non-exploitative" businesses, and that the agents should be rounding up illegal alien gang members instead.

The Incredible Hulk

Yesterday afternoon my sweet wife and I decided to go to a movie. The one we saw was the latest installment in the Marvel Movie Universe "The Incredible Hulk" It cost $8 bucks to get in and $5.50 for popcorn and a drink, so we invested $13.50 plus gas money into enjoying this movie.

The best think I can saw about the movie was that the Air Conditioner in the Theater worked real good and the popcorn was decent. I will admit the movie was better than Daredevil but it was a major disappointment to us. If you have to see this movie wait until it comes out on DVD and then RENT it.
