Industrial Hemp

The farmers are finally taking action about trying to grow industrial hemp here in the US. This environmentally-friendly crop has been restricted for many years because of false information & lobbying. Let's hope the US can catch up with the rest of the world soon. Here is the scoop about the Industrial Hemp fabric we use:

The hemp plant comes in many varieties, one of which is the marijuana plant. Industrial hemp, the plant used to make hemp fabric is completely different and safe to use. It does not contain the same drug-inducing properties. Hemp fabric is gaining popularity as one of the most environmentally friendly fibers. It requires no pesticides, herbicides, fertilizers, and only requires a small amount of water to grow. Hemp fiber has naturally anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties. Hemp is very porous, so the fabric is quite breathable. This also means that it takes dye beautifully. Our hemp fabrics are dyed using environmentally friendly low impact dyes. These dyes use far less water than conventional dyeing. Hemp is also a more durable fiber when compared to cotton. It is very hard to wear out, and gets softer with use. It wears in, but doesn't wear out. In recent years, new technology has made it possible for hemp to be processed with other fibers, such as cotton. When combined with other fibers, hemp tends to take on the characteristics of the combined fiber. The new hemp of today is soft, versatile, and quickly gaining popularity among all the big clothing manufacturers.

The mill that manufactures Solarveil fabric is discontinuing it immediately. I am so sad, because I really love this fabric. We just recently added this beautiful Sky Blue to our collection, and should have it in stock next week.

Solarveil is one of our best-sellers, so I expect these to sell out fairly quickly.

Finally I have joined the new century and have a blog! Whether or not I have time to actually post from time to time will remain to be seen. I am very busy enjoying the new additions to our family (4 mo twins!), as well as trying to keep everything thing around here going.

Have to run - looks like trouble in "twin town"!
