Captain Terrell is a perfect case that someone once in a high profile can break the law for their own gains.

This CASA letter letter shows Dr. Thompson showed a lack of responsibility to the travelling public by clearing me to fly with a documented compulsion to shut down all 747 engines.

In their 'cover-up' Qantas withheld the reports to have me grounded from CASA.

Barrister John Catsanos from Henry Parkes Chamber had this to say.
"So, in my submission, on a causation basis the medical evidence falls thunderously short of establishing causation. I just want to make it clear that I'm not in any way attempting to trivialise the circumstances and events which Mr Griffin has deposed to, the lengthy information that he's provided in relation to his condition, I don't seek to trivialise it to say that there's any untruth in it. What I say is that as a matter of causation it can't be visited upon Qantas and there's just no evidence to support it."

I state again that, in the circumstances, and keeping safety in mind, you should not have been allowed to fly from that time. Further, you should not have been allowed to fly again, until there was unequivocal evidence that you had completed a successful course of treatment.

Taking all of the above into consideration, I believe there is strong clinical evidence that you developed OCD in 1978 at the time when you felt a compulsion to crash your car. The second and more significant episode of OCD occurred on 29 August 1979, with a similar episode on 30 August 1979, but against a background of slowly increasing phobic anxiety. Your then recent onset of OCD raises significant safety issues. Even assuming a less stringent concern about safety matters at the time, you should have been stood down from flying. Further, you should have not been allowed to return to your aviation career until safety could be guaranteed.

It remains my opinion that you developed a significant disability in 1979 which was not adequately addressed by Qantas, particularly in terms of removing you from flying, and in the organising of best available treatment, and carrying out a very careful post treatment assessment to ensure that you were fit to fly and that you would not place passengers and the general public at risk.

Associate Clinical Professor Jonathan Phillips had this to say.
I believe it is fanciful to consider that your accident on 15 November 1973 had any relationship with the obsessive compulsive disorder which became problematic in 1979. Simply, a brain injury needs to be severe if it is to be associated with any substantive psychiatric disorder including obsessive compulsive disorder.
The fact that your obsessive compulsive disorder began in the course of your employment with Qantas is obvious. But for your position as first officer, and concerns regarding possible questioning by the check captain, you probably would have not developed obsessive compulsive symptoms associated with loss of all generators.

If he is going to be your arbitrator be careful. He was mine on my case about Qantas illegally clearing me to fly you with a compulsion to shut down all 747 engines.
On the stats that I have he has only given a favourable verdict to 50% of claims.
Contact me on what to do if he is the one chosen for you.
During the telephone hearing I realised that he was not familiar with the documents and other aspects of my case. He was adamant that the Qantas doctor would not have been my treating doctor and would not believe me. I now have the Qantas doctors letter stating that I was under his care. I could tell that this arbitrator would not consider all the facts and report on them so I tried to get a genuine one but wasn't allowed.
If you email him about your case he will have to take himself off it.
He said that he would have the decisions within the three weeks given to him by the Commission. He took an extra 10 days. Perhaps he was on a 10 day Qantas holiday.

Bruce Byron, CASA CEO was happy for them to clear a suicidal Qantas 747 pilot to fly.

He said that there was insufficient evidence for them to fail this pilot. Although the pilot admitted to Compulsive thoughts of 'Shutting down all engines' CASA thought that it was not a good enough reason not to let him fly. Why are they in charge of your safety? Someone said that it is the backhanders that keep CASA at bay and reluctant to support the truth. Hmmm.

Qantas psychiatrist John Ellard from The Northside Clinic in Sydney implied that women do not kill their babies and therefore F/O Griffin with a similar mental illness would not carry out his compulsion to shut down all engines on a 747.
There is now proof at http://www.qantaspilot.com that women have killed their babies and a father threw his child off a bridge. Qantas was foolhardy in using such a comparison in clearing me to fly.

According to Dr. John Ellard of the Northside Clinic in Sydney, when he told Qantas to clear me to fly, he compared my illness to that of mentally ill mothers who wanted to throw their babies out of the window. He made the presumption ( foolishly ) and said I would not carry out my compulsion to shut down all 747 engines. Mental illness needs treatment not a sweeping unfounded statement. The Northside Clinic will not comment on this case. If Dr. Ellard had been right I am sure they would have said so.
No one will put their reputation on the line and agree with his report. ( Except Qantas but we know they have been fined millions for illegal actions.)
New evidence shows that there are flaws in his diagnosis.

I think that first officer Griffin comes into this category. It is quite common for those who are phobic about heights to have the fear of voluntarily jumping off the edge of a cliff (When they are standing on one) and many people standing on a railway station have a sudden urge to jump in front of a train as it comes in. First Officer Griffin's obsessional thoughts are in this category and not very far removed from normality. One might mention in passing that quite a number of women who have babies have obsessional thoughts about throwing their babies out of the window.
It is extremely unlikely that he would ever perform any of the acts which preoccupy him and I would have no hesitation in certifying him for all flying duties.

A must read. It is a shame Dr. Ellard could not read it.

children were female. The child's biological mother was the perpetrator in four cases and the

I overheard that Geoff didn't know what all the fuss was about.
They have dozens of spare oxygen bottles and as a last resort they can use a nitrogen bottle as they have done in the past.
