Sherry Williams brought the baby to Wright's uncle's Mendenhall Street home. Aside from being hungry, the child was fine, authorities said.

McKenia was the focus of a statewide Amber Alert for most of the day Sunday until police, using cell phone records, tracked down the cousin, the baby and the missing 2006 Ford Escape in North Charleston around 6 p.m., Summerville Police Capt. Jon Rogers said.

Rogers said police intended to charge the teen with kidnapping. She was taken to the South Carolina Juvenile Detention Center to await a hearing before a judge.

Rogers said that it was still early in the investigation and that authorities did not know why the teen took the baby or why she took her to North Charleston.

Wright, 22, said her best guess is the cousin wanted to sneak out of the home. The girl shared her room with the baby, and the only way to sneak out without waking the baby was to take the baby with her, she said.

"Everything yesterday (Saturday) was normal," Wright said of her relationship with her cousin. "I've not had any problems with that child. She is a sweet girl, that's why I'm kind of confused about why she's done what she's done."

She was especially worried because the teen did not know how to drive. "She doesn't even know the driving laws," she said.

For most of the day, Wright sat in her uncle's home surrounded by about a dozen family members, trying her best to remain composed. She and her family repeatedly called the teen's cell phone, but she didn't answer.

At the time of the incident, Wright and her daughter were staying at her uncle's home and helping take care of her two cousins. Wright said the teen was acting somewhat suspiciously early Sunday morning before she went to sleep.

When a family member checked on the girl and the baby around 3 a.m., they were both in bed, Wright said.

Wright said when she woke up around 8:45 a.m. to go to church, she discovered her daughter, her cousin and her vehicle were missing.

"I just panicked," she said. "I called police."

By early evening, everything was back to normal. McKenia drank from a bottle while her mom happily wiped away tears.

[Source]Deidrahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09846474311175471860noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6352069869839025046.post-32951483716566339142008-07-03T19:20:00.002-05:002008-07-03T19:27:32.336-05:00Missing: Jasmine Hobson
The City of Duquesne Police Department is asking for the public's help to find a missing child.

Police are searching for 12-year-old Jasmine Hobson who was last seen on June 20 around 8 p.m. She is 5 feet 4 inches tall and weighs 180 pounds.

Hobson was last seen wearing a yellow Pittsburgh Passion T-shirt, blue jeans and black and white tennis shoes.

Anyone who has seen Jasmine or has information concerning her whereabouts should call Duquesne Police at 412-469-3774.

[Source]Deidrahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09846474311175471860noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6352069869839025046.post-75258004495343645062008-06-22T18:46:00.003-05:002008-06-22T18:49:30.834-05:00Found Dead: Denim and Randy Sylvester Jr.
Scorched earth is all that remained Saturday in a hidden, wooded area in southeast Houston where the bodies of two missing children were found, KPRC Local 2 reported.

"It was like diving into the depths of hell and straight up dealing with the devil," Quanell X said.

The community activist was instrumental in getting Randy Sylvester Sr., who is the children's father and sole suspect, to reveal the location of the bodies of 3-year-old Denim and 7-year-old Randy Sylvester Jr.

After leading Pasadena police to two ponds, Sylvester led Quanell X to the final site off of Allendale Road near Old Galveston Road late Friday.

"Both children were partially incinerated," Capt. Bud Corbett said. "One (was) in what appeared to be remains of a wooden chest and the other (was) in a suitcase."

That unsettling discovery came after more than five days of searching for the missing children and after an incident where Sylvester threatened reporters, including a KPRC Local 2 crew.

Quanell X said he also noticed that Sylvester was combative at first. Despite that, he said he tried to give him the benefit of the doubt but that changed when Sylvester showed him what he called his "doghouse."

The so-called "doghouse" is a separate apartment in the same complex where Sylvester spent time away from his wife, but where the children often visited.

According to Quanell X the apartment was filthy and filled with pornography.

"At that moment, along with some other questions that detectives were asking, I knew in my heart that that brother was not innocent," Quanell X said.

After repeatedly pleading with the father Quanell X said Sylvester finally opened up Friday.

Instead of pointing investigators to the gruesome scene, Sylvester insisted that Quanell X join him and see it in person.

"I don't know how long I'll be disturbed about (that), possibly the rest of my life," Quanell X said, visibly shaken by the memory. "When we were walking it was like he wanted me to see it."

Those who searched for Randy Jr. and Denim, including Tim Miller with Texas Equusearch, said they knew there was a chance this would end with tragedy, but the children's fate was hard to accept.

"I don't believe it's all sunk in yet," Miller said. "I just think we're all in shock."

Quanell X would not say if Sylvester made a confession, but did share how he feels about Sylvester after this gut-wrenching experience.

"The closest I could get is just straight cold-blooded," Quanell X said.

Quanell X later told reporters that throughout the process, Sylvester showed very little remorse. He seemed more concerned with his own self-preservation than with the children.

The children's mother was not available for comment. Authorities said she had to be hospitalized after learning what happened to her children.

A prayer vigil will be held at 6 p.m. Sunday for the children near where their bodies were found.

[Source]Deidrahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09846474311175471860noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6352069869839025046.post-4290601144621402152008-06-22T18:24:00.003-05:002008-06-22T19:17:32.037-05:00Amber Alert: McKenia Wright
A 13-year-old girl abducted her 11-month-old cousin during the night and drove off in a 2006 white Ford Escape, according to state officials who have issued an AMBER alert.

The abduction happened at 4 a.m. in the South Point subdivision in Summerville. She appears uninjured.

Details were not immediately available on where she was located or the circumstances of her abduction.

Police issued an Amber Alert on Tuesday for the girl who was originally reported as 11 years old.

Valerie Windowmaker, the girl’s mother said earlier in a news conference, “If anybody has seen Diana please help her. Please call police.”

She made a plea to her daughter: “I love you and I want you home."

Diana was last seen at about 3:30 p.m. Tuesday in the 700 block of West Maple Street near Comstock Park in the company of a man who looked to be about 40. She was last seen by a younger sibling.

Lansing police spokesman Lt. Noel Garcia said police don't believe the man took Diana by force, but added that when a young girl "leaves with a person that age, even willingly, there's some kind of coercion that could be there."

Garcia said police received tips from the public.

Garcia said the family does not live near where she was abducted. The family stays in an assisted living center in Lansing.

Diana went missing near the Mid-Michigan Leadership Academy. Mark Eitrem, superintendent of the school, said she has never been a student there.

Eitrem said a staff member saw the girl at about 1:30 p.m. with two younger boys. They knocked on the main entrance of the school and Diana asked to use the bathroom, he said. They were not allowed to enter because maintenance was being done on the hallway, he said. The children left.

Eitrem said police were at the three-building campus Tuesday. He said police interrupted a board meeting at about 6 p.m. to ask if there were student activities on campus. Eitrem said there weren’t because school is closed for summer.

Tom Carmoney, an office assistant at the North Neighborhood Center near the school, said he was at the center around the time the girl went missing. He said he never saw her and people were going about their activities in the neighborhood as normal. The area is a mix of residential homes and some vacant buildings.

"It kind of surprised me that someone would come up missing around here because of organizations working around here such as the school," he said.

Kathy Rogers, who lives on Pine Street, is the coordinator of the Neighborhood Watch 127 and vice present of the Old Forest Neighborhood Association.

She said she did not know the girl but is concerned about neighborhood safety.

“I’ve got a granddaughter who is 13, and it really makes you wonder if it’s safe,” she said.

Her granddaughter does not live in Lansing but visits frequently in the summer.

“I have concerns, you know. I want my granddaughter safe,” she said.

Rogers' Neighborhood Watch has a meeting tonight and will likely discuss the incident, she said.

[Source]Deidrahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09846474311175471860noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6352069869839025046.post-25521703172228965022008-06-18T09:33:00.003-05:002008-06-18T09:37:24.347-05:00Dad: "My kids are probably already dead. Police said they are trying to retrace his footsteps since his kids disappeared from inside their apartment complex Sunday.

"We had info that he was in this area," said Villareal.

Detectives said bloodhounds trailed Denim's scent from the tennis court to Sylvester's apartment and then to his car.

Police said he also made comments to his estranged wife that implied the children may already be dead.

A woman who left balloons for the children said she got a disturbingly similar phone call from Sylvester on Tuesday afternoon.

"'My kids are probably already dead. You can't hold them anymore?" mother Jerilynn St. Cyr asked.

Pasadena police said 3-year-old Denim Sylvester and 7-year-old Randy Sylvester Jr. were last seen at an apartment complex at 4025 Burke Rd. at about 3:45 p.m. Sunday. Their family reported them missing at about 9:15 p.m.

St. Cyr said she is mad that Pasadena police are not doing more to help her family.

"Somebody came in my community and took my kids," said St. Cyr. "Pasadena is not trying to find them."

She said she has no idea where her two kids could be, but she does know one thing.

"We did not harm our children," she said. "We would never harm our children."

She said she and her husband are good parents to the children. She even showed Local 2 their room with their toys.

"Here's the PlayStation, the X-box, here are her stuffed animals," said St. Cyr as she pointed around the room.

Neighbors said the children loved to be outside.

"They're always out playing with other kids," said neighbor David Petty.

Neighbor Noel Shuler said she often worried about the kids.

"They're always wandering around the pools and the tennis courts," he said. "Anything could happen to them."

St. Cyr said she saw them last near a lamppost just outside the tennis courts, then they disappeared.

"We immediately started to search for our kids," said St. Cyr. "When night fell, that's when we alerted the police. When night fell."

Police said they had 20 officers out searching the area along with 25 volunteers, but stopped the active search at about 3:30 p.m. Monday because they exhausted all of their leads.

Meanwhile, people have been bringing toys and candles to a staircase at the apartment complex.

"I just went through my room and found that bear," said Joey Hosmer, a friend of Randy's.

Investigators said an Amber Alert was not issued for the children because the case did not meet the necessary criteria. Police said they did not believe there had been an abduction.

Police said the mother and father's stories were not consistent, but neither was ever considered a suspect.

St. Cyr said it is up to the community to find her kids.

"Mommy loves you and I will never stop looking for you," said St. Cyr.

Denim is 2 feet 5 inches tall, 35 pounds and was last seen wearing a pink V-neck T-shirt with brown trim, pink shorts and pink flip-flops. Her hair was braided with a pink ponytail.

Randy is 4 feet 1 inch tall, 55 pounds and was last seen wearing a blue and orange Florida Gators shirt, blue denim shorts and blue and white tennis shoes.

Anyone with information about the children's whereabouts is asked to call the Pasadena Police Department at 713-477-1221.

[Source]

Previous Story:

Brother, 7, Sister, 3 Remain MissingDeidrahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09846474311175471860noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6352069869839025046.post-52354953404519185412008-06-17T00:00:00.000-05:002008-06-17T00:10:35.247-05:00June 2008: Missing and RunawaysPlease keep a look out for these girls, they need our help. Somebody has got her, whether it's a boy or a girl. I wouldn't doubt it if they said she was living with a man in Birmingham.

"Somebody is holding her, somebody is feeding her - probably the guy she is with.

"I have taken care of her since she was 10 years old, when I married her father and she came to live with me. All we want is for her to come home. If she doesn't want to come home, let us know where she is."

At the time of her disappearance, Makeba had been living in Offord Road, Islington, with her stepmother, her construction worker father Richard Shepherd, 50, and a younger brother.

Mrs Shepherd said that problems started after Makeba got into a row with her father after coming home late the year before last.

According to police, Makeba has run away nine times in the previous two years - although until now the longest she has stayed away is five days. Mrs Shepherd last saw Makeba on the morning of January 17, when the teenager was getting ready for school.

There were two possible sightings of her in January - one in Wood Green and the other around Holloway Road.

In February, she used her mobile phone to text and call police - even agreeing to meet an officer outside Angel Tube station. But she never turned up and later told police she was afraid she would be taken into care.

Makeba once more made contact on May 16, when she called her father to say she was not in London.

Sergeant Julie Henderson, of Islington police missing persons unit, said: "She has not made any contact with friends, her mobile phone is switched off and she does not have a cash card.

"There is a suggestion she might be in Birmingham with a man, possibly a boyfriend. But it's come to us third-hand and we don't know if it's true.

"We spoke to her best friend at the beginning of May who said she was not aware of any boyfriend and was very surprised that she hadn't contacted her family. We are really in the dark on this case. We have followed every lead. She has gone missing nine times before and we thought she would just turn up."

Anyone with information should contact Police Constable Scott Roney on 020 7421 0161 or 07904 324 181 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

[Source]Deidrahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09846474311175471860noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6352069869839025046.post-46270680065675307552008-05-28T21:16:00.000-05:002008-05-28T21:17:25.460-05:00Found: Ariel Adams
Memphis Police say a 16 year-old girl, who was last seen on May 15, 2008 has been found.

Ariel Adams had been listed as an "endangered runaway." She is the youngest of Rajoon's five children.

Rajoon works two jobs and was at a supermarket in Chaguanas on Saturday when her daughter disappeared.

Rajoon said Hope called her at 9 p.m. and said the man was preparing a meal of chicken and fries for her. Half-an-hour later, Rajoon arrived home to find the apartment empty.

The man returned at 11 p.m. and said he had gone to fill his gas tank and had left Hope with a tenant.

The man said he decided to drink two beers before returning to the apartment. The tenant said she knew nothing of Hope's whereabouts.

Neighbours told Rajoon they saw Hope leave in a man's vehicle.

Rajoon said she then called the police.

She is asking for the public's help in finding her daughter.

Rajoon said anyone finding Hope should drop her home or ask for her cell phone number, which Hope had memorised.

Last night, investigators began questioning Hope's neighbours trying to get any information that could help them trace the girl.

[Source]Deidrahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09846474311175471860noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6352069869839025046.post-30487372000447934632008-05-27T08:32:00.001-05:002008-05-27T08:34:40.771-05:00Missing: Lisa Hazel Peay
City police were asking for the public’s help Friday in finding a 14-year-old Asheville girl who ran away from her guardian May 2.

Lisa Hazel Peay has not been getting treatment for a medical condition since she left home, making it imperative that she be found soon, police said.

Peay is about 5 feet tall with black hair and brown eyes. Sierra Myles was cold and hungry, but otherwise in good health, said Roseville Deputy Police Chief James Berlin.

"She had been hiding the backseat or trunk area of an abandoned car not far from the family's home all that time," Berlin said. "She was just afraid to come out."

Her father, Nathan Myles, believed she ran away because he threatened to ground her Thursday morning due to slipping grades.

He said the girl has had a hard time dealing with her mother's move to a medical facility near family in New Orleans due to serious injuries suffered in a fire one year ago.

Berlin said the girl was reunited with her father shortly before 11 p.m.

Sierra's father knew something was wrong when his brother went to pick her up from latch-key after school at Dort Elementary School and she wasn't there. After school, Sierra was seen by a school secretary riding a bike that wasn't her own, he said.

Since she didn't have a key to the house, Sierra got into the garage to grab some old clothes that no longer fit her and hung out with friends before she ran away, he said.

The father found a note on the porch written on lined paper from a school notebook.

"She said she loves me but she hates me and doesn't want to live here anymore," Myles said. "I've never heard her speak that way."

The father said he was impressed by widespread efforts to find his daughter. "It seems like everybody is trying to pitch in," he said.

A $1,250 reward had been offered for information leading for the return of the girl who left a note about leaving home Thursday afternoon.

Crime Stoppers offered a $1,000 reward, and a Metro Detroit church chipped in another $250.

Police searched yards, garages and sheds. They talked to Sierra's family members, friends and classmates. Michigan State Police and the FBI aided in the search.

"I'm just thankful it was a happy ending," Berlin said. "I was getting pessimistic."

[Source]Deidrahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09846474311175471860noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6352069869839025046.post-85188015496843280022008-05-27T08:17:00.002-05:002008-05-27T08:21:09.055-05:00Found Dead: Revern Varrie
AN EIGHT-year-old East London girl who went missing from her Haven Hills home on Thursday night, sparking a massive search, was found dead in a manhole close to her home.

Revern Varrie’s half- naked body was discovered on Friday evening and a man has already been arrested for her murder.

A bucket containing blood-soaked clothes was found in the child’s home.

“Police using rescue dogs found the girl’s body in a manhole, covered in sewage with scratch marks on her nose and chin,” police spokesperson Captain Leon Fortune said yesterday.

A postmortem examination will be conducted today to establish the exact cause of death.

The manhole where she was found was featured on the front page of the Saturday Dispatch. Residents were pictured peering into the sewer, not knowing that they would later find Revern stuffed deep inside.

Her body had been crammed in so far that police had to recover it from a linked manhole.

Blood was found a short distance from her home close to a large drainage tunnel. At the other end of the tunnel was the manhole.

The little girl’s disappearance mobilised the Egoli and Buffalo Flats communities to join police in an intensive 18-hour search for her. The suspect was among them.

Revern’s grandmother Dawn Groep discovered the child was missing from her bed when she arrived home from work at 10.20pm on Thursday.

Yesterday, she spoke about her anger and frustration at Revern’s murder, saying she was hurting because she had raised the Grade 3 pupil as a baby. “What has happened is wrong. No one had a right to hurt my baby in this way.” She said she had assumed the child was sleeping over at her cousin’s house next door when she initially found the girl missing.

“As I prepared for bed I had a growing feeling of unease, so I went to my cousin’s house and when I found she was not there I started panicking because where else could she be?”

Groep said she started knocking on every door in the neighbourhood without any luck. Then the police were called in and the search began.

Egoli resident Joyce Welman said she joined in the search shortly after midnight, and was convinced Revern would still be found alive.

“We thought that she had not been taken long enough to have been harmed in that way, so the search from that moment until we found her was not for her body, but for a living child.”

The Dispatch joined in the hunt by putting Revern’s face on hundreds of posters around the city.

The murder has angered the communities where she lived; dozens marched on the Buffalo Flats Police Station on Saturday afternoon.

Some protesters bayed for the suspect’s blood and a memorandum demanding he be denied bail – and that the death penalty be reinstated – was handed over to police. “The community was so angry and hurt at the incident that they felt that if he was released into their midst something might happen to him,” said Welman.

The suspect is due to appear in the East London Magistrate’s Court today.

[Source]Deidrahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09846474311175471860noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6352069869839025046.post-72293854834230215222008-05-23T21:56:00.003-05:002008-05-23T21:58:24.781-05:00Amber Alert: Sierra Charise Myles
Michigan State Police have issued an Amber Alert for a 10-year old Roseville girl after she went missing Thursday from her home.

Sierra Charise Myles was last seen riding her bike near Packard Park in the area of Ten Mile and Gratiot at around 3:30 p.m. Thursday. Wouldn't you want the world to know? Would you try to get the message out any way that you can? If your phone was ringing off the hook and your door was not without a knock every few minutes because people want to help you, would that be a bad thing or a good thing?

Well, for one mother of a formerly missing blonde girl, it was "appalling". She claimed that the reporters twisted her words on the disappearance of her daughter with a 46-year old man. She just didn't understand why this story went international like it did (on the contrary, this would be a dream come true for the many missing black females that can't even get a spot in the local news).

At first, I sympathized with the mother because I know how the media can misinterpret you when you're telling a story. But as I did my research, I learned that this was coming after the mother herself gave the media permission to publish the love letter that her daughter wrote to the older man. I also learned that the mother had contact with the girl. During a phone conversation, her daughter criticized her mother for going public about the situation and told her to "stop playing games".

Fast forward, a week later, the daughter is found but now the mother blames the press. And for what? Because they care about her daughter? Stories like these need to get out...46 year old men have no business being with 16 year old girls. Especially not one who is a father of 5, a grandfather of two, and is in the process of divorcing his estranged wife! The story that she claimed was twisted, was not twisted at all. Her daughter did indeed run away with the man and had no intentions of coming home.

Now, after learning this, you would think that the mother would do whatever it takes to get her daughter back. Not really, she took the situation for what it was ("I've done everything I can to get her home but I can't change the law.") and became disgusted with the press and disgusted with the way the family of the man (by the way, they known them for years) was being treated - even though they knew her daughter was with him. Of course, she didn't thank the press or police for any work that they have done:

"It wasn't the police or the press who found her, it was his family."

Wow. Sorry police officers! Ya'll wasted ya'll time going on an international search for this girl. Shame on you! [sarcasm]

Meanwhile, Chioma Gray is still missing. No new information in her case since April of this year as far as I'm concerned.

[Source]
[Source]Deidrahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09846474311175471860noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6352069869839025046.post-47617797065708815982008-05-22T10:51:00.005-05:002008-05-22T10:57:14.941-05:00Missing 5 year old girl beaten by 8 year old schoolmate
A five-year-old girl was led from the gates of her school by an eight-year-old schoolmate, who took her by the hand and carried her a mile away into the forest where she was beaten black and blue.

The infant was found almost two hours later during a search involving the school's principal, teachers and her parents.

At the Oropouche Police Station, investigators questioned the eight-year-old.

She said she had beaten little Mikeda Mitchell with a piece of wood but shrugged when asked why.

Mikeda's arms, legs and buttocks were covered in welts, and she was taken to a doctor to ensure there was no internal injury.

Her parents, Elicia and Fitzroy Mitchell, want action to be taken by the police.

But investigators said they could do nothing.

An eight-year-old cannot be charged with a criminal offence, and the most the police could do was to ask that the school assign a counsellor to help the child with anger management. Statements were taken from both victim and attacker.

Elicia Mitchell said she would not accept this.

"This girl brutalised my girl. My child could have been dead in the bush. I would have been burying her. So what would the police do then?" she asked. The beaten girl lives at Sobo Extension, Rousillac, and attends the Rousillac Presbyterian Primary School.

Police said she was dropped off by the school bus, but instead was led to the Main Road, and into a teak plantation.

A teacher at roll call missed Mikeda, and a classmate told of seeing her and the girl walking away.

Elicia Mitchell said shortly before 10 a.m., "a teacher called to ask if my daughter reached back home. I told her no. She said Mikeda was missing and the other girl too."

Mitchell said she knew immediately something bad had happened.

"I was headed to the police station, but on the way the other girl's parents decided to search for them. We were driving through the teak field when I see my daughter running out the bush bawling."

Police confirmed the eight-year-old was a problem child, who had bullied children in the past and several school reports had been made to the administration.

The principal of the school, who accompanied the Mitchells to the police station, could not be reached yesterday. But police said they promised that the offending girl would get the help she needed.

But Elicia and Fitzroy Mitchell are not impressed.

"What is to stop this from happening again? I can't send my child back to this school. How can you be so bad at eight?

[Source]

I can't believe that this happened to a child by another child! This is so sad - this is why it's urgent we find our missing children before they end up like this little girl, or worse.Deidrahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09846474311175471860noreply@blogger.com
