I'm told that the Irish fare was very good. Personally, I can't see myself ever craving it, but I'm happy that it made Russ happy!! I have to say, though, that I favor the soda bread. I can see myself making that every once in a while.</span><br /><span style="font-family:Verdana;"></span><br /><span style="font-family:Verdana;"></span>Carmenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17134717011973328932noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6340346285327234573.post-42798807379771999752008-03-17T07:53:00.003-07:002008-03-17T08:00:41.007-07:00Irish!<span style="font-family:verdana;color:#009900;">OK, so this year I found out that my husband's side of the family is not only Scottish & Welsh, but Irish as well! What a mutt!! :) BTW, he's still in denial, so you may not want to make mention of this to him...</span><br /><span style="font-family:verdana;color:#009900;"></span><br /><span style="font-family:verdana;color:#009900;">Anyway, I decided to try my hand at this St. Patrick's Day food thing. I've decided to make Corned Beef, Cabbage, fixins & Irish Soda Bread. I'm making the Corned Beef in the Crock Pot, as it seems like the favorite among those who cook it. I've got the cabbage on the stove, and I'll make the soda bread later. I hope our house doesn't smell like a gaseous emission! What is up with Irish food -- it seems rather gassy to me!</span><br /><span style="font-family:verdana;color:#009900;"></span><br /><span style="font-family:verdana;color:#009900;">So, we're having group tonight, and they're always such good sports about trying stuff that I make... I should have a good bunch of honest opinions from them! We'll see.....</span>Carmenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17134717011973328932noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6340346285327234573.post-11693341456743157582008-03-16T13:24:00.000-07:002008-03-16T13:28:46.396-07:00GOOD GRIEF - NOT BEEF!<span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;color:#33cc00;">I just want to put something straight</span><br /><span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;color:#33cc00;">About what should be on your plate,</span><br /><span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;color:#33cc00;">If it's corned beef you're makin'</span><br /><span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;color:#33cc00;">You're sadly mistaken,</span><br /><span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;color:#33cc00;">That isn't what Irishmen ate.</span><br /><span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;color:#33cc00;"></span><br /><span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;color:#33cc00;">If you ever go over the pond<br />You'll find it's of bacon they're fond,</span><br /><span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;color:#33cc00;">All crispy and fried,</span><br /><span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;color:#33cc00;">With some cabbage beside,</span><br /><span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;color:#33cc00;">And a big scoop of praties beyond.</span><br /><span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;color:#33cc00;"></span><br /><span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;color:#33cc00;">Your average Pat was a peasant</span><br /><span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;color:#33cc00;">Who could not afford beef or pheasant.</span><br /><span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;color:#33cc00;">On the end of his fork</span><br /><span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;color:#33cc00;">Was a bit of salt pork,</span><br /><span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;color:#33cc00;">As a change from potatoes 'twas pleasant.</span><br /><span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;color:#33cc00;"></span><br /><span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;color:#33cc00;">This custom the Yanks have invented,</span><br /><span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;color:#33cc00;">Is an error they've never repented,</span><br /><span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;color:#33cc00;">But bacon's the stuff</span><br /><span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;color:#33cc00;">That all Irishmen scoff,</span><br /><span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;color:#33cc00;">With fried cabbage it is supplemented.</span><br /><span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;color:#33cc00;"></span><br /><span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;color:#33cc00;">So please get it right this St. Paddy's.</span><br /><span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;color:#33cc00;">Don't feed this old beef to your daddies.</span><br /><span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;color:#33cc00;">It may be much flasher, </span><br /><span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;color:#33cc00;">But a simple old rasher, </span><br /><span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;color:#33cc00;">Is what you should eat with your tatties.</span><br /><span style="color:#33cc00;"> --Frances Shilliday 2004</span>Carmenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17134717011973328932noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6340346285327234573.post-51833646817598120692008-03-15T14:45:00.000-07:002008-03-15T15:02:51.931-07:00In Whom Shall I Put My Trust?<strong>A</strong>ll that is needed is a slight effort<br /><strong>T</strong>o reach for the true safety zone<br /><strong>T</strong>empting causes me to stumble<br /><strong>A</strong>ll is not lost, I iterate<br /><strong>I</strong>f ever a time to look to the One who waits...<br /><strong>N</strong>ow, in this instant!<br /><br /><strong>F</strong>orget what the world says<br /><strong>R</strong>emember you are not of it<br /><strong>E</strong>ncountering those from it<br /><strong>E</strong>merge victorious!
