It's Fabulous Friday with Sugar Creek Hollow!

Woohoo! The weekend starts tomorrow, so what better way to get it started right than with some Sugar Creek Hollow goodness?!

I don't usually do pink, but I was just feelin' it on this card, and decided to go the whole nine yards. Pink, bling, flowers...very girly, indeed!

It doesn't show up on the pic, but the swirls on the chick's head, body and tail are highlighted with a Sakura Stardust pen, as were some of the paisleys on the dsp behind her. A little lacy edging and a flower with a bling center finish it!

The sentiment on my card reminds me of the first date I had with a handsome young man. No one warned him about me, and he chose a romantic comedy movie for our first date. Oh, yeah.

When I belly laughed at a funny scene and people looked at me weird, he knew he better run or marry me quick.

He married me.

That's what this sentiment means to me. Live loud. Live like you mean it. It doesn't matter what anyone but God thinks of you. Sing your song, and only your song, as loud as you can.

It's Fabulous Friday at Sugar Creek Hollow!

Welcome to a Fabulous Friday with Sugar Creek Hollow! The challenge to the design team this week was to use buttons! I decided to use just one this time. I was going for a less-is-more kind of card. Check it out!

I decided to try something different with the nestie label. Usually I just fill the entire frame with what ever is the focus. This verse is much wider than it is tall, however, and there would be a lot of extra space at the top and bottom. The paper I used is from K & Co., which is double sided, so I took some of the reverse pattern from the background paper to fill in on the bottom part of the label die. Trim with a edge punch, and voila! A flower with a button center is all that was needed to finish off this card. I also used Antique Linen Distress ink on the edges of the focal panel and sponged a little all over the white cardstock to tone it down, too.

Friends with Flair & Growing in Unity Day 4

Thanks for stopping by today! Sorry I didn't have a Growing in Unity post yesterday; some things came up that prevented me from getting it up in time. I'll post one more Unity/{ippity} project tomorrow for one more chance to get your name into the draw for Rows of Yummies. Sound good? Thought so! I'll draw a winner on Sunday. =D

Today I made a birthday card using a trifold technique. I've done gate folds and a couple of other kinds of folds, but never this kind. I got my inspiration from a photo on the Caardvarks blog, and just happened to have this really cute patterned paper with the birds on it.

There are a total of six visible panels on this kind of card, not including the backside. The trick is to come up with enough interesting things to keep the eye moving, but they should all be tied together somehow. For mine, it was the bird stamps that coordinate with the birdhouses.

AiFactory challenge: Clear & Simple

This week, the design team was given a set of flowers and asked only to make the image the centerpiece and include one clear item on our card.

I really love the Easter lily since it reminds me of the true reason to celebrate Easter: Christ's death and resurrection on the cross to provide eternal life for me (and you) if I only believe that he is the only way to receive that eternal life. Amen!

The clear item on my card is the flourish. It's actually a single flourish from Sizzix (Nesting Swirls Set #2) that I cut in half to put it on either side of the flower. I colored the flower with Prisma pencils and OMS. Both the punched circle and the flower are popped up on pop dots. Lastly, I stamped a Scripture verse inside, Romans 5:8 - "But God commendeth His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us."

Growing in Unity Day 3...with blog candy

Happy Wednesday! I hope you're having a good week!

This is my third day of Growing in Unity. If you haven't had a chance to read my first two posts, scroll down to see them. I decided to go with another CAS card today, but I gotta tell ya the flowers were giving me fits! The stamp is drawn with leaves, but I wanted to have flowers, and the sequins I used were really tiny. I used the smallest rhinestones I could find in my stash, too. Silly me!

It's hard to tell (you can click the pic to see it larger), but I cut the green cardstock to simulate grass, then bent the blades out a bit to give the card a bit more dimension.

Growing in Unity Day 2

Welcome back! I hope you enjoyed the H{ippity} Hop yesterday! The fun continues here, though, with another {ippity} card.

Yesterday, my card had lots of layers, so I decided to try a clean and simple card today. I remembered trying out coloring on kraft with colored pencils from this post, and I really wanted to give it another try. I really love making the sentiment the focal point of a card, too. Then I saw this frame in another {ippity} kit and thought, "Hmmmm...". As it so happens, this sentiment fits perfectly inside this journaling block from Love in Return. It has lines inside the frame for writing, but I just inked up the outer part of the stamp. After trying it out on this card, I started getting lots of other ideas for other ways to use this block! =D

It's Fabulous Friday at Sugar Creek Hollow!

Thank goodness it's Friday! Today I'm sharing an image from Sugar Creek Hollow!

I've been wanting to play with this stamp for a while, but just hadn't found the right sketch/colors/mojo to get it to work right. Finally, it all came together!

The design team challenge this week was to use the colors Riding Hood Red, Pretty in Pink, Baja Breeze and Chocolate Chip. I just couldn't figure out how to get the red in there to my liking, so I used just a teeny bit to make the image pop a bit. I used my Prisma pencils and a blender pencil again. After coloring the pink flower, I tipped it with just a bit of red, and on the blue flower I highlighted with dark brown on the tips and center of the flower to give it more depth. The original stamp makes it easy to highlight since it already has penwork highlights!

"B" Challenged with AiFactory!

It's time for another AiFactory challenge!

I'm sure you've had one of those weeks. You know. The ones where you could either crawl under a rock until it's over, or go back and redo it. Yeah. That's been my week.

So, it felt good to come home and create something tonight.

Mia gave us a brand new stamp to play with this week. Her name is Trinity.

The AiF challenge to us this week is to create a something with blue, a bow and some bling. As you can see from my card, that kind of week turned into a boo boo on my card. No bow, no bling (unless you count the metal flower). Sigh. I'll get it right next week. =)

I used my Prisma pencils, but instead of OMS I just used a blending pencil to soften the pencil lines. I also used the anniversary sketch from CardPatterns.

H{ippity} Hop!

Welcome to this week's blog hop with {ippity} stamps! I'll keep it short and sweet since I'm a bit short on time!

I made this card for a family in our church who recently lost their baby. The mother was only 12 weeks into the pregnancy, but the Lord decided to take the baby early. I can't even imagine the grief of losing a little one. Please pray for them!

I did some embossed resist on the focal image. After stamping the flowers on the bottom, I used VersaMark to stamp the sentiment and embossed with clear ep. Then I sponged some ink over the entire panel to soften the stark white. A few pearls on the mat finished the card.

We're cookin' at AiFactory!

This week, Mia gave us some recipe cards to play with and YUM! I love to cook, and new recipes are always so fun to try! Check out what I made this week.

I kept it pretty simple: a 5x7 card base with some slots punched in the front so I can see what recipe I'm using. Inside, a scalloped border forms a pocket to hold some extra recipe cards to share or to collect recipes from someone else.

And since the print is really hard to see, here's the recipe from Cooking Light, 2003:

Ingredients

4 ounces Cajun smoked sausage, chopped (such as Conecuh)
3 cups fat-free, less-sodium chicken broth
1 (14.5-ounce) can no-salt-added diced tomatoes, undrained
6 cups coarsely chopped kale (about 8 ounces)
1 (16-ounce) can navy beans, drained and rinsed

Preparation

Heat a large saucepan over medium-high heat. Add smoked sausage to pan; cook 2 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add chicken broth and diced tomatoes; bring to a boil over high heat. Stir in the kale. Reduce heat, and simmer 4 minutes or until the kale is tender. Stir in beans, and cook 1 minute or until soup is thoroughly heated.

I prefer collard greens to kale, so I substitute when I make this soup. Salad and some crusty break make this a great warm up!

This is another card I paper pieced digitally, then printed out. I couldn't quite get the colors adjusted right; this card is actually much brighter IRL.

AiFactory goes 3D

It's time for another AiFactory challenge, and this time we want to see a 3D project! You can get a list of all the designers at the AiF Challenge Blog. The design team was provided a calendar set to work with, and I knew as soon as I saw the medallions on each calendar that I wanted to make an ornament with one of my empty ribbon spools. Here's a sample of the calendar set:

I opened one of the calendars in my image editing software, selected just the medallion and deleted the rest of the image. I made sure to measure the size of the Nestabilities circle die I was going to use before sizing my image. Once it was printed out (two copies) and cut with the Nestabilities, I mounted it on a scalloped mat. To hide the core of the spool, I wrapped it with some coordinating ribbon before adhering the medallion to the front and back of the empty spool.

Great way to use up something you'd otherwise throw out, eh? If you'd like to purchase this calendar, be sure to visit the AiFactory store.

I made this with one of the first sets release last fall. I love how versatile this set is! I made the front of the card with a flower I made myself with a Sizzix die and a button. I wanted to keep it pretty simple, so I used kraft and just a bit of dsp to give the card a bit of rustic flair.

Inside is a sweet little treat for a friend: matching flowers from the front and a few buttons! The recipient can take the flowers and buttons off the acetate sheet to use on her own projects. I just love enabling people to make more cards! =D

Thanks for coming by for Unity's Friends with Flair Friday! I put together this little birthday card using some of my favorite colors and kraft - love that stuff! I really should use it more often, especially with the white stamping.
