Anderson Silva: Can He Make It 4 Title Defenses in a Year!!

Set up for March 1st is Anderson Silva's 4th defense of the Middleweight Title. Okay so its a year and 1 month since his first title defense. Since his debut into the UFC Silva has not had a fight go past the mid way point of the second round. In fact 3 of his 5 UFC opponents haven't made it out of the 1st round. That list includes former champ Rich Franklin, the very tough Chris Leben, and the scrappy Nate Marquardt. Next up for Anderson Silva is going to be Dan Henderson. Who had no other choice but to drop weight and try his luck in a different weight class after losing to Rampage Jackson.

More fighters, correction more champs should follow the example of this very likeable and exciting fighter. Silva is not octagon shy by any means. 4 defenses in 1 year (13 months). All of his fights leave you at the edge of your seat whether you are rooting for him or against him.

My main point for all of this is that there should be no reason for each monthly UFC to have a title fight. The UFC should enforce a "3 title defense fights a year" in all their champion fighter's contracts. They have 4 weight classes and there are 12 months in a year, if you do the math that means they can rotate through each weight class 3 times. Hey if you want to be champ then prove it.

Over the past few months since my last post I have moved back to NJ. My friends and I were so excited when the UFC came back to NJ in November. We got our tickets before the fight card was announced. Unfortunately I have to say we were disappointed. Easily this was the worst UFC event of the year.

Brock Lesnar: The Next Big Thing in the UFC??

Brock Lesnar finally gets his first big test in MMA by way of Frank Mir. This will be Lesnar's 2nd MMA fight. His first was the rapid destruction of Min Soo Kim. I have never seen a fighter tapout due to punches. Below is the video clip from that fight.

On February 2nd Lesnar will take on former Heavyweight Champ Frank Mir in Las Vegas. Look for this match to be explosive. This fight is just as big for Frank Mir. After Mir's latest victory over Antoni Hardonk this past August, it looks as if Mir is back on track to become the top contender in the heavyweight division.

Matt Hughes Autobiography: Made in America, Now Available

While contemplating his next move, Matt Hughes is on his book tour signing copies of his autobiography "Made in America". I met Matt for the second time yesterday at the Barnes and Noble in Staten Island, NY. Still sporting a black eye from GSP, Matt was in good spirits. I told him that whatever he decides to do next, just come back at the very least and take care of Matt Serra. Matt Serra is a whiny bitch and that he needs to shut him up. I can't wait to read his book. I will let you know if it's worth the read once I had a chance to check it out. If you want to meet Matt the tour dates for his book signing are below. He is a class act and will take the time to personalize it however you want.

UFC Finally Pulls Trigger...3 New Interim Champs in Next 3 Months

Well most of you probably got to see GSP take down Matt Hughes for the Welterweight Interim Championship since Matt Serra went down with his back injury. It was an exciting fight but terribly disappointing since I am a big Matt Hughes fan; and I don't like Georges St Pierre.

Next up is old news already, but BJ Penn takes on Joe Stevenson for the Lightweight Interim Championship. It took the UFC long enough to act on the Sean Sherk situation. So be prepared for a crazy technical fight on January 19th. Remember this fight is in England, so the fight will be broadcast live at 3:00pm EST.

Some more recent news is that at UFC 81, on February 2nd, the Heavyweight Interim Championship is on the line. With the sudden departure of UFC legend Randy Couture, the title will be up for grabs and the two men battling for the championship are: Tim "The Maine-iac" Sylvia vs Antonio "Minotauro" Nogueira.

Alot Has Changed Since My Last Post

I finally got my act together and with a new year upon us I'm back to updating and reporting on the UFC and MMA news, fights, and whatever else seems to matter. I haven't missed an event or fight. I just haven't posted anything in a few months. Even while suffering from a kidney stone attack the night of UFC 79 I was able to get to a tv and watch Chuck Lidell open a can of whoop ass on Wanderlei Silva. I only wish Chuck got the KO.

The only thing other then the kidney stone that sucked that night was Matt Hughes loss to GSP. The only thing that would have been worse is if the loss was to Matt Serra. I am really looking forward to a better 2008, so as things come about I will try and keep the site up to date.

Frank Mir Back On Track??

Frank Mir looks to be back. He had a very quick win over Antoni Hardonk. Mir submits Hardonk in the 1st round. The question is, was the fight too quick? Check out the clip below from UFC 74 from this past Saturday. The fight doesn't last long enough to tell if Mir is in heavyweight champ form or not, but the clip from UFC 74 is worth watching.

"Babalu" Fined By Nevada State Athletic Commission-Watch Video Clip To See Why

Renato "Babalu" Sobral will lose 1/2 the winnings of his fight purse to the Nevada State Athletic Commission. He may also be subject to some other disciplinary action that could lead to suspension. Because the fight was on the undercard of UFC 74, the pay per view public didn't get a chance to see what happened. Check out the video clip of Renato "Babalu Sobral vs David Heath from UFC 74 below. Heath tapped to an anaconda choke that he applied and "Babalu" decided to keep applying it for seconds after Steve Mazzagatti ended it and tried to break it off.

The Brazilian nut's excuse was, "I just thought that I needed to teach him respect after he showed me so much disrespect"..."I think that you can be fearless and tough and still maintain sportsmanship. He needed to be taught a lesson.”

What a dick!! That's exactly the type of behavior that gives the UFC or could give the UFC a bad rap. I'm shocked that it's not on ESPN or the news. That is the shit these damn reporters would eat up. Check out the clip below from UFC 74. Go to the beginning of the second round to see "Babalu" open a huge cut on Heath's forehead. Go to the last minute to see the end where "Babalu" holds the choke after Heath tapped out.

UFC 74 was another impressive night of fights. I was a little disappointed in not being able to see some of the undercard fights that could have very well been on the main card. 44 years old and still amazing. Randy Couture defends his UFC Heavyweight title with ease and conviction. Gabriel Gonzaga was a bloody mess due to some pinpoint strikes by Couture. Gonzaga went home with a broken nose and empty hands. There were a few strikes that Couture took that looked like they may cause some problems, but Couture absorbed them and kept on pushing the pace of the fight.

Wanderlei Silva Signs With UFC

Wanderlei Silva finally inked a deal with the UFC. It figures that once Chuck Liddell is signed to fight Keith Jardine, Wanderlei Silva signs. It looks like we will get to see Wanderlei "The Axe Murderer" Silva fight at the end of the year.

I have said it in posts before and I will say it again, Silva is afraid of Chuck! Check out the way he faught Vitor Belfort. If he does this against Chuck he may need an ambulance. Vitor is the one in the gay shoes, but as Silva quickly finds out, there is nothing gay about the way he fights.

Georges St Pierre and Josh Koscheck: This Could Be Insane!!

Along with Couture vs Gonzaga, the other headliner fight is Georges St Pierre vs Josh Koscheck. If Matt Serra beat Georges that easily and decisively and can't wait to see what Josh Koscheck will do to him. Either Georges is not as good as everyone thinks or he just had an off night against Serra. Either way this fight has the potential to be amazing, no matter how much I hate Georges St Pierre.

I don't know if it is because he is French or if he reminds me of that big pussy of an actor Jean Claude Van Damme, but I hope everyone he fights beats him. Maybe its because their is all this hype about him being the new face of MMA. St Pierre is suppose to be the new breed of fighter. He has been practicing all forms of MMA since he was young. He is not just a wrestler, or a grappler, or a boxer. Even though I hate him I have to admit he is a good fighter, here is a video clip from one of his fights. Q&A with UFC President Dana White on Steroids in the UFC

Dana White just returned from his vacation in Tahiti and sat down with ESPN the Magazine to answer the lingering questions on the steroid use and abuse in the UFC. Here is what he had to say about Sean Sherk and Hermes Franca, along with some general comments:

ESPN The Magazine: But what is the punishment? What are you going to do?
White: They're not going to get paid. I take care of all of my guys. If you fight your ass off for me, you'll get paid. But what I'm going to do is: I'm going to wait and see if they pass their drug tests. If they don't, you're going to get paid what's in your contract and that's it.

ESPN The Magazine: So you're going to pay the guaranteed money but any fight bonuses would be withheld? That's not a slap on the wrist.
White: No, that's a kick in the nuts, and they know that.

Liddell Set To Return in September for UFC 76

Well if you were wondering like I have been, the Iceman is set on the comeback trail. Chuck will have to get by Keith Jardine if he wants to get his Light Heavyweight title back. It is all set for UFC 76 which will be held in Anaheim on September 22nd.

Jardine is a tough opponent, but I don't think he will be a match for a hungry and pissed off Chuck Liddell. Jardine's last fight was a total disappointment. I don't know if it was beginners luck or if he underestimated Houston Alexander but Alexander cleaned his clock quick.

Frank Mir Returns!! UFC 74: Respect vs Antoni Hardonk

The former Heavyweight Champion, Frank Mir, returns to octagon after a 9 month lay off. It looked as if Frank Mir was done fighting in the UFC after his TKO loss to Brandon Vera back in November 2006. Mir captured the heavyweight title by TKO over the big man, Tim Sylvia, back in 2004 in 50 seconds. It looked as if he would dominate the heavyweights for a long time, until... a motorcycle accident. Mir broke his leg and suffered some serious injuries. During his 2 year long rehab stint the title was stripped from him. He returned to the octagon only to be embarrassed by Marcio Cruz in a first round loss. He then beat Dan Christison by decision and then lost to Vera. Sherk and Franca Test Positive For Anabolic Agents

After their 5 round championship fight, both Sean Sherk and Hermes Franca test positive for anabolic steroids.

Sean Sherk tested positive for Nandrolone Metabolite. Nandrolone is one of the most abused anabolic steroids out there. From some of the information I gathered it is possible for some humans to produce this naturally through exhaustive exercise. This is specific to each individual and studies are still being done on it.

Hermes Franca tested positive for Drostanolone. Drostanolone is a high end anabolic agent. It is used clinically to help treat breast cancer. This steroid has the effect of increasing aggression and strength to give you an edge while not being a weight gainer like most other steroids.

Both fighters face fines and suspension. While nothing has been finalized yet, I see Sherk to be stripped of the lightweight title like Tim Sylvia was a few years back.

Decision for UFC 75: Champion vs Champion Has Been Made

The unification bout for Quinton "Rampage" Jackson's UFC title and Dan "Hollywood" Henderson's Pride title will be held on September 8th at 9:00pm on Spike TV. For some reason the PPV contract fell through and this fight will be broadcast on cable tv. This fight card looks great on paper with a studded fight card including, Mirko Cro-Cop vs Cheick Kongo and Michael Bisping vs Matt Hamill.

You should know who Mirko Cro-Cop is, if you don't you better crawl out from under that rock and check out some video on this guy. Here is a clip of his opponent Cheick Kongo. He has faught a few times in the UFC and has looked good. He is 6'4" of solid muscle and he is tough on the ground and on his feet. Check out this highlight video that I found on him.

THQ Games To Release Annual UFC Video Game.

This could be the only video game that I will ever need to buy. I swore I would never buy a PS3 because it is so damn expensive but if this game is half as good as the trailer looks that is exactly what I will do. THQ games has an agreement with the UFC until 2011 to make games for any current or next gen console. They also have the rights for PC and any portable hand-held systems. It looks like the first of these games will be available for Fall 2007. The plan is to have the games released annually just like the Madden football games so that the rosters will stay up to date and fresh. Check out the video below of the new UFC game, and yes it is only a game. The graphics are insane.

I was holding off on posting Liddell vs Silva because I thought it was too good to be true. It has been rumored for a few weeks they were going to fight soon. Well I was right. Silva has decided to pass up the chance to fight the Iceman. Plain and simple he is a little girl. There is no reason now for Wanderlei to duck him. There used to be the Pride/UFC barrier but that no longer exists. Hey if I was Silva I would be scared too, just take a look at Chuck in action below. He makes quick work of Renato "Babalu" Sobral. Babalu gets a vicious leg kick by Chuck with about 2:10 left in the fight. The second fight with Chuck for Babalu was even shorter and Babalu was so out of it he tried to take down the ref.

What Next?...UFC 74: Respect featuring Randy "The Natural" Couture

I have no idea why the UFC does not have the fight card established for the next upcoming PPV event. As of right now there are only 3 scheduled bouts. The only thing you really need to know is that Randy Couture will be defending the Heavyweight title for the first time since taking it away from Tim Sylvia. I have no doubt that Couture will win and defend successfully.

He defends against Gabriel Gonzaga who is not the most well known fighter but he put himself on the map when he almost kicked Mirko Cro Cop's head into the 5th row. Gonzaga was suppose to be the warmup fight for a Cro Cop vs Couture showdown but Gonzaga shocked the world and now has a chance to do it again. As soon as I can I will get the clip of Gonzaga kicking Cro Cop and post it asap.

The other two fights on the card have Georges St-Pierre taking on Josh Koscheck and Joe Stevenson taking on Kurt Pellegrino.

Championship Belts Remain: Silva and Sherk Defend

If you were hoping for an upset "No soup for you!!" Anderson Silva and Sean Sherk defend titles in a dominant fashion. Silva made quick work of Nate Marquardt with a 1st round TKO. Sean Sherk made Hermes Franca his little rag doll for a 5 round unanimous decision. Sherk is the strongest lightweight, hands down.

I was a little disappointed with the UFC not showing any of the undercard bouts. They were definitely quality fights. From what I have read they looked like they were better then the main card fights. Below is the list of the official results from UFC 73: Stacked:

Just over a week away is UFC 73. Finally we get to see Sean Sherk defend the lightweight title. Which is long overdue. It has almost been a year since his last fight. Along with that title fight Anderson Silva will be defending his middleweight title. Look for Silva to dominate this fight and end it quickly. The main event to the evening has Tito Ortiz facing off undefeated Rashad Evans. I hate both fighters but it looks to be a good one. I guess I am rooting for Tito since I hate him less.
