Yahoo partners with Google

Yahoo Inc.'s has been promopted the Internet pioneer to hire online search leader Google Inc. to handle some of its advertising sales.

The news caused Yahoo shares to plunge 10 percent as investors abandoned hope that Microsoft would renew a nearly five-month quest to buy the Sunnyvale California based company.

If Google partnership passes what's likely to be rigorous review by US antitrust regulators and lawmakers, Yahoo intends to use its rival's superior search technology to display ads on its own website as well as those of its partners in the US and Canada.

Internet Fraud Loss For 2007 is about $239 Million

This year dollar loss reported from Internet crime an all-time high in 2007 , according to the internet Crime Complaints Center's (IC3) 2007 Internet Crime report.

The IC3 serves to field complaints about online crime on behalf of the Federal Bureau Of Investigation and the National White Collar crime Center.

The IC3 received 206,884 complaints in 2005 through its Web site, fewer than the number submitted in 2006 (207,492) , 2005 (231, 493), 2004(207, 449).

IC3 referrd 90, 008 complaints to the appropriate law enforcement authorities for investigation, most of which alleged fraud and financial loss. The dollar loss for reffered complaints totaled $239.09 million, with a median loss of $680 per complaint. This represents an increase over the 2006 total of $198.44 million.

Country by country, the United States had the most cyber criminals, with 63.2% , followed by the United Kingdom (15.3%) and Nigeria(5.7%)

It bears repeating that these number do not reflect overall Internet crime activity in theses in these countries. Rather,they represent statistic drawn specifically from the more than 90,000 IC3 complaints investigated.

E-mail was the most common means (73.6%) by which cyber criminals made contact with their victim, followed by Web pages (32.7%) , phone contact(18%) , and postal mail(10.1%)." The anonymous nature of an e-mail address or a Web site allows prepetratos to solicit a large number of victims with a keystroke," the report explains.

So we would be expecting more frauds right up more in the coming years.

Vista Service Pack1 to Arrive on Tuesday

A major package of updates and security fixes for Microsoft Corp.'s Windows Vista operating system will be available for download Tuesday, according to Amazon.com Inc.'s Website.

The retailer is selling copies of Vista withoug the service pack advising customers that they can download the free SP1 upgrade starting Tuesday.

Amazon is also taking pre-orders for boxed copies of Windows Vista Service Pack 1 Which is said it will start shipping Wednesday.

Microsoft is on the track to release SP1 in mid.march. Amazon claim that the upgrade would be available Tuesday onine, but didn't confirm the date.

Many of the fixes in Vista SP1 have already been released as part of regular monthly updates in the year since the operating system went on sale to consumers.

26 Yeards In Prison For Spamming

Spam doesn't pay. Or rather, it pays until you get caught. It's a lesson that "spam king" Robert Soloway, has learned by facing upto 26 yeards in prison after pleading guilty to mail fraud and tax evasion charges Friday.

The man plead guilty at Friday's hearing in the seattle U.S. District Court, where he was charged with felony mail frauds, fraud in connection with electronic mails and failing to file a tax return in 2005-- a year in which he made more than $ 300,000 through fraudulent spam activities.

Before you start building new applications around YouTube Video Player, it might be wise to check out the Terms Of Service agreement

It has a lot to say about what you can or can't do particularly when it comes to any thoughts of making money. First up, the No.1 video-sharing site says plainly " the intent of API is for noncommercial uas". More specifically the TOS prohibits using the application programming interface for the " primary purpose of deserving revenues .....such as advertising or subscription" services.

You Tube, which expanded its API on Wednesday, goes on to say that it's permissible to use the API to show YouTube content on an ad- enabled blog or Wen site, just as long as they aren't " comprised solely or substantially of You Tube video content".

Not surprisingly, the Google-owned site doesn't want anyone else making money off its content-especially competitors. But hoe much video can a commercial site post before it's too much? What exactly does " substantially" mean ?

There's more under the "Commercial Use" section of the TOS is this item: " The sale of advertising, sponsorship, or promotions targeted to , within, or on the API Client or YouTube video content" is prohibited without permission.

A YouTube representative declined to comment.

What this means is that YouTube's player will still be the choice for individual bloggers and smaller businesses that supplement their content with videos and don't mind YouTube's branding and ads/ For you in-betweens, better read the fine print.

The U.S Department of Defense put Google on the defensive last week it issued a communique to make it clear that the roving photographic vehicles Google uses to acquire Google Maps Street View images aren't allowed on U.S. military bases.

In pursuing its mission "to organize the world's information and make it universally accessible and useful," Google inadvertently ran afoul of the military mission to maintain security for its personnel and sites.

Google removed the pictures at the requested area of the military. Fort Sam Houston is not open to the public.

Whiles security through obscurity is generally regarded as an inadequate startegy on the Internet, it remains a cornerstone of site security policies for governments around the globe.

The question now is whether this is something that will boost Mac sales, which have been doing well on their own up to this point. Its hard to assess the impact of the multi touch technology in the early days of the MacBook Air, which has only been out a little over a month and appeals to only a subset of the notebook-buying population.

Iphone's Multitouch user interface is perhaps its greatest asset.

Pakistan welcomes back YouTube

Youtube recently has removed a video clip that offended some of the Pakistan's muslims, and the government there has lifted a nationwide ban against the video- sharing site.

The video critisized Islam was taken down from the youtube site. On sunday Youtbe.com was blocked in whole across Pakistan, who ever tried to log on to the site was sent to a virtual black hole.

Well this YouTube bans isn't new to YouTube. Brazil blocked YouTube last year after a video clip was posted of Daniela Cicarelli, a famous model, having sex with her boyfriend. A Brazilian judge reversed the ban soon after,

Thailand, Morocco and Turkey are three other countries that have blocked Youtube only to reverse themselves later.

Yahoo came earlier than google and I guess you all are aware of it and once it was #1 . We all know what happened later, Google became so bigger than all the major search engine together and with their new technology and their huge resources it is impossible for any competition to beat them.

Nothing is better for you and me than serious competition for our ad dollars. Talking of yahoo as opponent to google I don't think that yahoo will likely to achieve anything other than they'll just argue with each other about how to mis-spell everything.

Yahoo spent millions trying to come up with something interesting and new yet their pay-per-click system is the most pathetic thing we have ever seen.

Talking of mine, I like Google as the best but I really wish that Yahoo and their equivalents could come up with something worth the while, something simple to use and something to make market grow better.

My point is that Google had to work with very limited resources and Yahoo and Microsoft has all these assets and they and they can't even get out of their own way. At the end of the day its is the quality of the business idea and the quality of commitment that makes the difference. It is not about how much money you have; you can start of with very limited resources and become number one, Google is the living proof of that.

If you take Google click through rate formula your position is your bid price times your click-through rate, that why we get cost per impression. Google makes money on the advertisers that makes them the most money for search. That translates to something like 35-40 % improvement in the revenue per search over what yahoo gets and that what makes out the difference, in other words Yahoo is loosing money in every single search and ofcourse those who show Yahoo ads on their websites make less money on every impression too. Then the advertisers earns less money which makes them move towards Google.

Google never made any big mistakes really, surely there were some miscalculations with Froogle and similar projects, but overall they have done everything right and they are unstoppable. On the other side mistakes that Yahoo and Microsoft has made in the past are numerous. Well What happens if they both join together?

Here are some tips to increase your Google Adsense CTR:

1. Make sure the ads that are appearing on your site are closely related with your content. This is the first thing you have to do because if your ads are not relevant, there’s small possibility that people will click on them. Then, what should you do to tackle this problem?

Here are the tips:

* Use your keyword in your page title.
* Create a keyword rich content. I suggest you creating one topic a page.
* Check your keyword rich content and then mark some of your keywords as bold or italic. But don’t do it too much, just do it 1 – 2 times per page. Otherwise, Google assumes you are doing spamming.

2. Use wide ads (336×280, 300×250 or 250×250). Because these are the best performing ads.

3. Blend your ads with your website themes. For example, if your background color is white, change your ads border and background color to white as well. If your background color is dark (black), use bright color such as yellow as link color. This will decrease user ad-blindness.

4. Place your Google Adsense in these positions:
* In the middle of an article.
* Above the fold
Above the fold is the top position of your page that’s visible without your visitor having to scroll down. This is the best location that works for me. I place 336×280 ad unit in this location and it works very well. Why? Okay, back to our example. Your article is about “how to bake delicious bread”. Someone finds it from search engine; when he opens it, he first sees ads about “baking school”, “baking book” or “bread recipes”. Who won’t be interested?

5. Always use Link Unit! Many people never realize that Link Unit is the most profitable format if put in the right place. Try to place it near your navigation menu.
