The international trailer for Toy Story 3 has just gone online – however, as excited as we are about the movie, we have to warn you: if you saw the US trailer for the Disney/Pixar threequel, there’s virtually nothing new here. In fact, it’s actually about a minute shorter, even allowing for the addition of an intro designed to jog your memory about Buzz, Woody and the gang. As if it needed jogging.

Still, it’s worth watching if only for the warm, fuzzy feeling that will doubtless grip you at the prospect of seeing the toys back in action. No detailed glimpses of any new characters yet, but all in good time. We’ve got a good feeling about this one…

The film – also in Disney Digital 3D, don’t forget – opens here on July 23, 2010.

Howl at the moon! Two new international posters for The Wolf Man have arrived and Benicio Del Toro’s afflicted werewolf is looking about as far from New Moon’s moon-loving lupines as it’s possible to be.

And, we’ve got to say we’re impressed. Not only by the attention to hair, claws, teeth – that’s a lot of saliva going on there - and bloody shirtedness, but by the fact that in the solo shot Benicio appears to have metamorphosed into Jeff Bridges.

Strong thoughtful work from Emily Blunt as well – nice touch having her coming out of the trees, moon and his breath simultaneously – although either that moonlight appears to be shining from multiple angles or the 19th century’s discovered search beams.

Blimey. If the cast of Marvel’s Thor continues to swell at its current rate, pretty soon there won’t be an actor on Earth who won’t have some sort of part in it. Even Joe Swash might get the call at some point.

That’s because, hot on the heels of the news that the godlike Idris Elba has signed on to play the ungodlike Heimdall (because he’s, well, an actual god), Kat Dennings has also come on board, joining the already-cast Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Hopkins, Tom Hiddleston, Natalie Portman, Ray Stevenson, Tadanobu Asano, Stuart Townsend, Jaimie Alexander, Jedward, Jermain Defoe and the cast of the West End production of Inherit The Wind.

No word yet on who Dennings, the lovely and talented indie chick who lit up Nick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist with her deadpan charms (ok, we fancy her), will play in the Kenneth Branagh-directed epic, but the rumour mill has her playing an assistant to Portman’s Thor-snogging scientist, Jane Foster. In fact, Portman herself let slip the news about Dennings’ casting in an interview with MTV News. The scamp.

But while we’re here, let’s throw another bone onto the rumour fire – what if, just what if, Dennings has been tapped to play sinister villainess The Enchantress? Now that we’d like to see. But on a production as secretive as Thor, we probably won’t know for sure until it comes out on Blu-ray.

It's been almost a year since the news broke that Keanu Reaves would be starring in 47 Ronin, Universal's 18th Century samurai epic. But now the project has finally gained a director, in the form of commercials director Carl Erik Rinsch.

This will be Rinsch's feature debut, and it's unusual for a first-timer to land such a huge project. But his ads for the likes of Lexus, BMW and Mercedes have long been attracting favourable attention, and nobody seems in doubt about his confidence and ability behind a camera. And he goes out with Ridley Scott's daughter, so those connections can't hurt. If you recognise his name, it might be because he was, for a short while, in talks for the Alien prequel until Sir Ridders was persuaded to do it himself.

Ronin, as you probably learned at the movies, are masterless samurai, and the story of the 47 Ronin, one of Japan's key national legends, concerns the vengeance of the titular group after their feudal lord is forced to commit ritual suicide, following an assault on a corrupt court official. The story is recounted in John Frankenheimer's Ronin to explain the title, and has been filmed at least half a dozen times before.

The screenplay is by Wanted's Chris Morgan, who promises Lord of the Rings-type high fantasy and Gladiator-type battle scenes.

Frank Miller's Ronin, about a 13th century samurai transported to future New York, is also in the works.

The Facebook fan page for Tim Burton's upcoming Alice In Wonderland has a new poster for the film, and promises to post another two close behind when 7,500 people "like" this one.

This rather lovely effort shows Helena Bonham Carter as the big-headed Red Queen, Anne Hathaway as the slightly saner White Queen, and Matt Lucas as Tweedledum and Tweedledee. That's the Cheshire Cat, with his big green eyes, in the sky; he's voiced by Stephen Fry.

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is well on the way, and, it seems, has created a bandwagon of sorts. Variety reports that Chuck Russell is busy prepping a 3D adventure based on The Arabian Nights. Good news everyone! It's a timeless classic of world literature, coming to the screen from the director of Eraser!

Russell has co-written the script with newbie Barry Ambrose. You'll be disappointed to hear that it's not an ambitious Reduced-Shakespeare-Company-style portmanteau comprising 1001 stories, but "a new spin", in which a young military commander joins forces with Sinbad, Aladdin, and the Genie of the Lamp, to rescue storyteller Scheherazade from "dark powers" that have murdered the king.

Russell also directed The Mummy spinoff The Scorpion King, which is a fair idea of the territory this will be treading, we'd assume (although on a larger scale). Budgeted at $70m, shooting starts in the spring.

Well isn't this just McDreamy news. Patrick Dempsey, on his next break from Seattle Grace Hospital, will be producing and starring in an as-yet untitled comedy by Jon Lucas and Scott Moore, the writers of The Hangover, and directed by one of Empire's favourite people, Paul McGuigan.

The plot will see Dempsey play a man caught in two bank robberies of the same bank at the same time. In the middle of all this, he's trying to protect the bank teller with whom he's secretly in love and- Wait. They lost us. Patrick Dempsey doesn't tell the girl he's in love with her? We're supposed to believe that he's a bit shy and hasn't got the self-confidence to ask out a bank teller? Has no one told him he looks just like Patrick Dempsey?!

Ahem. Anyway, moving on, shooting begins in April, by which time Dempsey's next film, Valentine's Day, will have been released and hopefully helped us to forget Maid of Honour.

If you can get Anthony Hopkins as your voiceover man, then do so at once. It's a lesson that The Wolfman's latest trailer, now online over at Apple, has learned well, even if they do make the mistake of twinning him with some vaguely teen-friendly metal.

It's looking more and more, in fact, like Hopkins' might just steal the show as the sardonic and distant father to Benicio del Toro's Lawrence. A person might even suspect, with that buzzcut and grin combo, that this is Hopkins on bad guy form, but of course we could never speculate about something like that this far out, even if all the trailers seem determined to hit us over the head with it.

The Wolfman is due out (assuming there are no further delays) on February 12, 2010.

As the candlelit vigil continues (somewhere, we suspect) in anticipation of the release of The Twilight Saga: New Moon, here's a tidbit to keep you going: a bunch of oiled and shirtless men turning into giant wolves. You know, as they do.

In this clip from New Moon, our heroine, Bella (Kristen Stewart) confronts the La Push gang that she believes has somehow stolen her friend Jacob (Taylor Lautner). Instead of talking things out reasonably with the nice shirtless young men, she resorts to an ill-judged slap across the face, prompting a fit of shape-changing and the appearance of a wolf the size of a pony. Can anyone save Bella? Well, maybe Jake-Abs can - if he has a wolfy secret of his own. Dur-dur-duuuuuuuurrrrr!

What next for the mutants & friends?

We got the chance to speak to X-Men producer Lauren Shuler-Donner recently at the DVD and Blu-ray release of X-Men Origins: Wolverine (out Monday!) and she gave us the lowdown on the X-Men spin-offs still to come. The full feature is over here, but here are a few tasters...

On Wolverine 2: "It's actually the story we wanted to use for the first Wolverine film, but [Fox head honcho] Tom Rothman preferred to set the character up with an origin story first. What’s cool about this part of the saga is that Wolverine will be fighting in a different style to what we’ve seen before. Mariko’s father has this stick-like weapon, so Wolverine will have to fight against that. There’ll be samurai, ninja, katana blades, different forms of martial arts — mano-a-mano, extreme fighting."

On X-Men: First Class: "We want it to be like the recent, darker Potters. It should not be a kiddie movie: we’re in the X-Men world so you can’t suddenly change the tone. The First Class comics are really fun — they’re funnier than any other comics I’ve read. Basically in each one the kids are fighting strange villains, sometimes it’s aliens, sometimes it’s monsters. I want to get a flavour of that world."

On Deadpool: "I don’t see it as a problem that Ryan [Reynolds] is also playing Green Lantern. I mean, look at Harrison Ford – he was in Stars Wars and Indiana Jones at the same time and everyone was fine with that. Green Lantern could not be more different to Wade Wilson. Green Lantern is a guy who finds a ring and is thrust into this world, much like Spider-Man. Wade Wilson is a bad ass, a wise-cracking mercenary, who will go out and kill anyone for money. But the thing about him is that, underneath it all, and he wouldn’t want you to know this, sometimes he’s not such a bad ass after all."

Park Chan-Wook, best known for Oldboy and Sympathy for Mr Vengeance, has gone all fangy for his latest outing, Thirst, about a priest who becomes a vampire*. And to give you a coppery taste of what you can expect from the film, check out this rather ace clip.

The Host's Song Kang-ho stars as Priest Sang-hyeon, who selflessly volunteers to trial an experimental vaccine but who is saved by a transfusion of blood that, sadly, comes from a vampire. D'oh! In this clip he's debating the ethics of vampirism with fellow vamp Tae-joo (Kim Ok-vin), who's having more fun with it than he is.

WARNING: Brace yourself for a moment of "ouch!" violence about halfway through this clip. It's nothing graphic in the gory sense, but it is squirm inducing.

Thirst is out in the UK this Friday.

*Not to be confused with the forthcoming Priest, about a priest who hunts vampires. Totally different. This one's Korean.

Gerard Butler always looks more comfortable onscreen when he's bringing the pain than when he's bringing the hearts and flowers. And by those standards he's never looked more at ease than in Law Abiding Citizen, where he plays a bereaved husband and father who's out for vengeance. And here to prove it are two brand new posters.

Yes, that's Butler's Clyde Shelton looking moody in the first poster, determined to get his revenge on the killers of his wife and daughter after they are offered a plea-bargain by ambitious District Attorney Nick Rice (Jamie Foxx, looking moody in the second). Only it turns out that Ordinary Joe Clyde has secret abilities that make him a pretty formidable guy when he puts his mind to something.

Your first (third) look at Rex and Hamm

If there’s one film over the next year or so that doesn’t need the hard sell, it’s Disney/Pixar’s Toy Story 3. After all, if there’s anyone out there who hasn’t already set aside some cash for a couple of tickets to see the continuing adventures of Woody, Buzz and the gang – in eye-popping 3-D this time – then we’d hate to meet them, and we take pity on their joyless souls.

Nevertheless, Disney has already begun to beat the promotional drum. A trailer for the movie is due out on Monday, and today they released two brand-new posters, giving you your first (well, third) look at two beloved characters, Rex and Hamm.

MySpace, has the Rex poster, which allows you to admire the advances in the detail of the CG (the cowardly dino looks less cartoonish, more like a real toy). And Slashfilm have the poster showcasing John Ratzenberger’s down-to-earth Hamm.

Cameron Diaz's is turning to the dark side of Hollywood (after years of candyfloss like Charlie's Angels and Shrek) with this horror / sci-fi / thriller / moral dilemma flick from Donnie Darko director Richard Kelly.

Set in the 1970s, Norma (Diaz) and Arthur (James Marsden) are delivered a mysterious box to their door. In the box is a button. If you press the button you get $1 million. Also, someone in the world dies. Bummer.

A sticky situation like no other, it's based on the original story "Button, Button" by I Am Legend writer Richard Matheson. So that's Donnie Darko director, check, story by reknowned author, check, and A-list star, check... this may just work.

Sharon Stone and Chris Evans have signed on to star in Satisfaction, a drama about a male prostitute and the older lady who looks after him. How do we know this? Because Stone herself blabbed about it to Prestige magazine (sadly, not an offshoot of Dale Doback and Brennan Huff’s Prestige Worldwide).

Evans will play a gigolo who becomes involved with an older lady, all while going through a traumatic relationship with his agency. Stone, we’re guessing, will play the older lady.

“You think they have legitimately fallen in love, by his behaviour and her behaviour,” Stone told Prestige, “until the call-out service starts sending him out again while he's with her. He starts trying to break her down. And it's incredible what they do together: a very, very fascinating journey."

So, is it an opposite-sex Midnight Cowboy for the Noughties? A riff on The Graduate? A new spin on American Gigolo? Only time will tell, but it should be interesting to see Evans in a straight drama, as we’ve got a feeling that, despite all the comic book movies and sci-fi stuff he keeps showing up in, that’s where his heart lies.

According to Stone, Carice van Houten has also joined the cast, which will be directed by Anya Camilleri. Shooting will take place in London and Rome, beginning in January.

Is your Monday a bit grey or drizzly or lacking in heavily-armoured Romans laying the smackdown on ferocious Pict warriors? We have the answer - and it's a nice cup of tea. Or, failing that, these rather spiffy new images from Neil Marshall's brutal, balls-to-the-wall take on Roman Britain in Centurion.

The movie speculates on the fate of Rome's reputedly 'lost' Ninth Legion*, who in this take are north of Hadrian's Wall, engaged in a bloody battle and facing a bit of trouble getting out of hostile Pict country. Our hero is Fassbender's Quintus, seen in the second of these pictures with Liam Cunningham (who of course starred opposite him in the harrowing Hunger).

Said Marshall of his latest, "The Picts are like the Indians and our Romans are like the cavalry. So, a Scottish-Roman Western! Who'd have thought?!"

Said Fassbender, "There's certainly a lot of head-chopping. I guess you can always make modern-day parallels, to the occupation of Iraq. But it's the idea of someone who believes in an ethos, becomes disillusioned and comes to his own sort of beliefs. So there are parallels, and it's interesting when you take it out of our timeframe and stick it back 2,000 years."

The undead hordes swept the box office in the US this weekend, with rom-zom-com Zombieland marching straight to the top with a pretty respectable $25 million opening weekend. In its wake was Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, falling off the top after two weeks, and the re-released double-bill of Toy Story and Toy Story 2 in 3D in third. The moral of this story? If you're not in 3D, you better have zombies.

The Invention of Lying came in fourth with $7.35m, which was better than Gervais' Ghost Town but down on similar 'what if' comedies like Liar Liar. Surrogates followed, with a 50% drop on last week, and then was Michael Moore's Capitalism: A Love Story, which expanded to wide release but still made only $4.85m, less even than Sicko nevermind Fahrenheit 9/11 or Bowling for Columbine.

New release Whip It!, about a girl rollerskating team, followed that with a disappointing opening of $4.85m - apparently men didn't want to go see a film about girl sports.

Much further down the charts, the Coens' new film A Serious Man opened on only six screens and took $252,000 - not a bad average by anyone's standards. However, we somehow doubt that the willfully niche film is going to repeat those numbers when it goes national.

Yesterday we brought you the new Empire cover with Sam Worthington's Perseus; today we can bring you a whole pantheon of new stills from Clash of the Titans. Two things should immediately become clear: this is not the Titans you remember, and this Perseus is not the sort of person who sports long, floaty locks and then goes off to become a lawyer.

"What I wanted to do was just tell a very human story," says director Louis Leterrier. "Yes, I was really interested in doing the big monster fight at the end of that, but what was really interesting for me was the human side of it. Perseus is a conflicted hero, he hates it, which is so much better than a 'real' hero. The original Perseus is embracing it and takes the weapons Zeus gives him."

"He's just your golden hero that you're meant to follow," says Worthington of the old Perseus. "I feel when my Perseus starts out, he should be this bombastic tank. The gods have killed his family. He's Charles Bronson! He's gonna go for revenge, and the best way to achieve that is to kill the Kraken. Well, to kill the Kraken you gotta kill Medusa. To get to Medusa, you gotta take on the witches. Then once he kills the Kraken, he's gonna kill fuckin' Hades and Zeus and everybody else! But along the way he needs to learn to calm down, ask for help. And out of that comes the true hero. A hero isn't someone who leads men; a hero is someone that's in the trench with the men."

Worthington also assured us that "we're not in fuckin' Harryhausen mode anymore", which we're choosing to see as an affirmation of the film's "grittiness" rather than a slight to the stop-motion legend.
